| Italy vows to get tough with football hooligans after Pagani violence - 23/01/2023Source : https://www.wantedinrome.com/ Police officer among those injured in clashes.Italy's interior ministry on Sunday called for "exemplary sanctions" after hardcore 'ultra' football fans clashed in the southern town of Pagani near Naples ahead of a Serie D match between Paganese and Casertana. The violence began half an hour before kick-off when a bus carrying a group of about 50 Casertana supporters caught fire after a smoke bomb was thrown near the town's Marcello Torre stadium. The football fans manged to get off the bus before it went up in flames, and in the ensuing violence several people were taken to hospital with injuries, including a Carabiniere police officer. There was also damage caused to some private homes and cars parked in the area near the stadium, according to news agency ANSA. The interior ministry said it is ready to proceed with "the utmost rigour" against those behind the clashes and would be assessing new measures to prevent violence at football matches considered "at risk". Italy's deputy premier Matteo Salvini on Twitter posted a video of the hooliganism, labelling those involved as "criminals, not fans" and calling for them to receive a life ban from stadiums. The violence was also condemned as "unacceptable" by the Casertana club which said in a statement that the "horrifying scenes clash with our way of understanding football." The incident in Pagani comes two weeks after clashes between Roma and Napoli 'ultras' blocked Italy's A1 highway near Arezzo, in scenes compared to "the Wild West" by interior ministry undersecretary Nicola Molteni. | |

| Turkey : Prosecutor demands up to 23 years for hooligan - 23/01/2023Source : https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/ Police officer among those injured in clashes.A jail term of up to 23 years has been requested for the assailant involved in the tragic incident of last November’s İzmir derby for throwing a signal flare. The derby between the western province of İzmir’s rivals, Göztepe and Altay, was suspended when a signal flare was thrown by Altay fan Furkan Ersanlı at the Göztepe stand, injuring a man and two children. Seconds after, a Göztepe fan named Mehmet Nihat Aydın injured Altay’s goalkeeper Ozan Evrim Özenç with a corner pole. The police detained 20 suspects from both sides in one of the most tragic football events in the country. The prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of up to 15 years for Aydın on charges of “attempting to kill deliberately” and up to 23 years for Ersanlı on charges of “attempting to kill deliberately,” “taking dangerous equipment into sports fields and disrupting the competition order,” and “endangering public security deliberately.” Ersanlı entered the stadium by hiding the flare brought in the fan’s bus to the banner in his hand, the indictment said, whereas he claimed in his statement that he found the flare by chance and mistook it for a torch. Demanded to be punished for the same crimes, 18 other defendants were freed by a judicial control decision. Sports commentators also reacted to the derby fight. “They are not hooligans but terrorists,” said daily Hürriyet columnist Uğur Meleke, asking the authorities to punish the hooligans with harsh sentences. “If this issue is taken lightly, bigger stadium terror events may occur in the future,” he added. “While there is no historical tension between the two teams, the events that took place were incomprehensible,” said Güntekin Onay, another commentator for daily Hürriyet. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has forfeited both teams due to the events. The fight forced players and referees to go into the locker room. Mehmet Çakır, the fan who had severe damage to his jaw and teeth and burns on his left side, had to undergo surgery. There was also tension in the locker room corridors while waiting for the referee’s decision. Police teams intervened in the chaos between the football players and managers of the two teams. Altay’s players and fans were kept waiting in the stadium for a while after the match was canceled by the referee. After Altay’s players left the stadium in police vans, the black-and-white side’s fans left the stadium in buses under supervision after waiting for about seven hours. | |

| Scotland : Edinburgh picture captures grim moment 80s hooligans battle it out on notorious bridge - 26/01/2023Source : https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/ During the '80s the CCS and Bradley Welsh’s led ‘CCS Baby Crew’ were notorious for getting into fights with opposition supporters over the infamous structure, which connects Bothwell Street with Albion Terrace just off Easter Road. The Bridge of Doom has been synonymous with Hibernian casuals, the Capital City Service (CCS), for decades. Officially known as the Crawford Bridge, the narrow crossing leads to Hibs' Easter RoadStadium and is one of only a small handful of available routes for home and away supporters travelling to the ground on foot from the city centre. At the height of football hooliganism in the 1980s, the bridge, which Hibs fans nicknamed the Bridge of Doom, became a prime spot for pitched battles between casuals. A photo has now resurfaced online on the Facebook page Dressers which is connected to a book of the same name that covers “80s Lads Culture, One-Upmanship, Football, Fashion and Music". The startling image appears to show Hibernian’s CCS fighting on the ‘Bridge of Doom’ with the Aberdeen Soccer Casuals (ASC) and some concerned police officers. Those looking at the picture sourced from Dressers will notice that the bridge and its surrounding area has not changed all that much in 40 years. | |

| US Lecce - Salernitana - 27/01/2023Source : Il Mattino Lecce-Salernitana, clashes between ultras: five Granata fans, armed with truncheons, arrested. For six supporters, the procedure of a Daspo was launched.Five Salernitana supporters and one from Lecce have been reported and will be prosecuted following Friday night's game in Salento; they were found in possession of blunt instruments and pyrotechnic devices. They therefore seemed ready to do battle, but they were prevented from doing so by the police. Before the first leg, there had been scuffles and the enmity between the ultras (twinning between Salerno and Bari, rivals of the Giallorossi, editor's note) is well known. Maces, metal chains, truncheons, smoke bombs and large firecrackers: Digos agents found everything in a case in the countryside along the road to the visitor's sector of Via del Mare, previously thrown from the window of one of the buses carrying granata supporters (total 1076) in full view of police patrols. During subsequent checks on the various vehicles, around ten rigid plastic tubes were found: the owners were identified and reported. They are a 24-year-old man, a 44-year-old man and a 47-year-old man. The same fate was in store for two men, aged 39 and 24, after breaking 'the ban on bearing arms in public meetings even for license holders', happened to a 39-year-old man and a 24-year-old man. Both were arrested by the carabinieri during a check at the entrance to the visitor sector: the first kept a ten centimeter switchblade in his pocket, the second had instead hidden a telescopic metal tube in his jacket. A 22-year-old from Lecce was also intercepted and blocked before entering the stadium, found in possession of three smoke bombs and a metal baton. For the six supporters, the Daspo imposition procedure has been launched. | |
