A worse situation was avoided thanks to the quick intervention of police forces who separated the two camps.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale kicked by fan after win at Tottenham



Aaron Ramsdale was kicked by a Tottenham fan in a disgraceful flashpoint after Arsenal’s 2-0 away win in the north London derby, the goalkeeper describing it as a “sour” end to a memorable afternoon.

Arsenal moved eight points clear at the top of the Premier League on the back of their latest assured performance but the post-match incident cast a long shadow. The Metropolitan police said it had “received a report of an assault” and inquiries were ongoing, and Spurs vowed to ban the fan responsible.

Ramsdale had celebrated in front of the South Stand, sticking out his tongue and pointing at then kissing the badge on his shirt. He attracted the ire of the Spurs substitute Richarlison, with whom he clashed. Then, with players from both teams converging and Ramsdale heading off to retrieve his drinks bottle, a Spurs supporter jumped on to the hoarding behind the goal and aimed the kick.

In an official communiqué coming from Montpellier’s public prosecutor’s office, police have opened an investigation into banners shown by MHSC ultras during this weekend’s Ligue 1 match against FC Nantes. Individuals are being investigated under “public insults on the grounds of sexual orientation” as well as “the introduction, possession, and use of rockets or fireworks in a sporting arena,” and “throwing of a projectile which endangers the safety of persons.”

Sports minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra earlier today denounced banners shown during the match against Nantes, which was disrupted by fireworks and projectiles thrown onto the pitch. “The strongest condemnation of these images, these words, these homophobic acts which must disappear from football and sport. Their perpetrators must be identified, punished and kept away from our stadiums for good,” she said on Twitter, with a photo of the banners held up by Montpellier’s ultras. 

The first image shows the first banner, which reads “An entourage of sons of bitch. A performance worthy of a reserve team, Fuck you all”. The second banner is where language of a homophobic nature is mobilised by the ultra group, reading “You don’t give a shit, team full of Fagets”.

This Monday morning, the spokesman for the group of supporters behind the banner tried to justify that the message was “not homophobic in any way“, but that the ultras’ intention was to “denounce the lack of courage and reaction of the players“. when contacted by France Bleu Hérault, regrets a “political recuperation” in an “sterile” world and deplores “the proportions that this affair is taking, in view of much more serious issues in the news“.

Meanwhile, in another statement, MHSC dissociated itself from its supporters and “condemns in the strongest possible terms the homophobic remarks“. The club does not rule out filing a complaint, and explains that “banners to express the discontent of the supporters had been authorised“, but that this kind of language “cannot be tolerated”.

The club are expecting to close the stand that holds the ultras for the next two matches.

A surprising fight for many since, located in the Marek stand, this confrontation would have pitted only Lens supporters.

To remedy the situation, Bollarert's stewards move several supporters. A grotesque situation caused... by a smoke bomb.

According to a supporter present on the spot, the troublemaker would have tried to light a smoke bomb, which did not take. He then allegedly sent him close to the Red Tigers section, alienating stadium security as well as the Red Tigers.

Two people were arrested.

Scunthorpe United's National League clash against Woking was suspended after fans invaded the pitch in a furious protest against club owner Peter Swann who is looking to sell the club.

Scunthorpe fans ran onto the pitch and into the centre circle with their team losing 1-0 while sitting bottom of the table following four wins from their previous 27 fixtures.

Supporters lit flares and initially refused to be moved by stewards - with play eventually getting back underway as they returned to their seats following their unexpected display of discontent.

A large section of fans jumped the advertising boards in the 77th minute to reflect the years the club spent in the Football League before their relegation last year with back-to-back relegations looking likely.

The protests were called peaceful by BT Sport.

The announcer at Glanford Park told those on the playing surface that the game was on the brink of being abandoned, with the game restarting following the end of their protest.

Having left the pitch to allow the game to go on, Scunthorpe fans watched Woking grab a second Padraig Amond with their side rooted to the bottom of the table.

In relation to money owed to HM Revenue and Customs, Scunthorpe were given a winding-up petition on Wednesday with the future of the club in doubt.

Following that update, Notts County owner Alan Hardy is now leading a consortium interested in purchasing the club according to BBC Sport.

A takeover by a local consortium had thought to have been close in recent months, but that remains uncompleted with the threat of liquidation real.

With the club Twitter account simply saying that there was a break in play, one fan said in response: "There’s been break in play for the last two and a half years!"

At the end of the fixture there was 12 minutes of additional time added, with 2825 the total attendance despite the off-field issues and recent results.

Having earned only 19 points from their opening 27 fixtures, sitting two points behind Maidstone and three points behind Torquay who have a game in hand.

A fan has been charged with assaulting Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale following last weekend's north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, the Metropolitan Police said Tuesday.



Joseph Watts, 35, has been accused of assault by beating, going onto an area adjacent to the playing area and throwing a missile onto a football playing area at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following Premier League leaders Arsenal's 2-0 win.

Watts, of Hackney, north London, was charged on Tuesday and is due to appear at Highbury Magistrates' Court on February 17th. The accused was filmed kicking Gunners' keeper Aaron Ramsdale in the aftermath of the game.

Following Sunday's incident, England's governing Football Association "strongly condemned" the incident, while Tottenham insisted "violence in any form has no place in football".

The police arrested 11 “hardcore” Feyenoord supporters on Friday for threat, insult, intimidation, and arson. They are accused of displaying threatening banners in Tirana, vandalizing a Rotterdam alderman’s home with homophobic slogans, and setting fire to a gym belonging to the president of the Roze Kameraden - a group of LGBTQIA+ Feyenoord supporters.

The banners in Tirana in May last year featured insults and death threats directed at Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, his daughter, and Paul van Dorst, the chairman of the Roze Kameraden. Van Dorst also had his gym vandalized and set on fire. And homophobic slogans were spray-painted on LeefbaarRotterdam alderman Robert Simons’ home.

The suspects arrested on Friday are between the ages of 21 and 36 and from Rotterdam, The Hague, Arnemuiden, Uden, and Rijswijk.

“It concerns minor offenses from a legal point of view, public order offenses such as vandalism or insult. But they are offenses with a huge impact. Your home is your safe haven. If that is completely covered with discriminatory and threatening texts, it does a lot to your sense of security,” the police said.

The suspects are also linked to other football-related crimes, including an anti-Semitic mural of footballer Steven Berghuis, a young Groningen supporter robbed of his pants who had to go home without them, and a brick thrown through the window of a Vlaardingen press photographer.

Last year, the police already arrested 45 suspects in connection with these crimes. They didn’t report the arrests in the interest of the investigation. “But now it is time to send a clear signal to people who make football unsafe: your behavior is unacceptable. We are on top of it,” the police said.

In addition to criminal prosecution, the KNVB is also investigating whether it can ban these suspects from football stadiums in the Netherlands.
