Eight Aston Villa fans avoid jail after gang attack on Crystal Palace stewards - 05/10/2021

Season 21/22 - October - Page 2 Flhe

Eight Aston Villa fans who attacked stewards at an away match at Crystal Palace after a goal was disallowed have avoided jail.

Tempers flared after an equalising goal by Henri Lansbury was disqualified by the referee and captain Jack Grealish was booked for a dive in the build up.

A total of eight men were charged with affray.

Jack Baker, 22, Todd Kershaw, 36, Liam Miller, 30, Colin Fairgrieve, 54, Ryan Ross, 22, Mitchell Voss, 26, Kurt Griffiths, 42, and son Reece Griffiths, 21, all admitted affray after the game at Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park stadium.

At a sentencing hearing last month Baker, Kershaw and Miller were told to carry out unpaid work and Miller and Kershaw have been banned from attending football matches for the next three years.

Croydon Magistrates' Court heard the assault on stewards at the Selhurst Park Stadium on August 31, 2019 was captured on CCTV.

Miller, of Birmingham, went on to assault a police officer at another Aston Villa match three months later in November 2019 - for which he was handed a community order.

He was given an 18-week sentence suspended for 18 months for pushing stewards and kicking over the stadium's advertising boards at the August game.

Prosecutor Emek Yagmur said: "The CCTV shows Mr Miller stood to the front of the stand and a goal appears to be scored which was then subsequently disallowed.

The crowd starts celebrating and the defendant can be seen to go where the electronic hoarding is on the side of the pitch.

"A steward is seen to grab hold of him as he's not allowed in that area. He has not managed to get hold of him and the hoarding falls over as the defendant kicks it.

"The goal is then disallowed and the crowd becomes aggrieved and the defendant is seen to be animated with his hands held out and pushing back.

"He is trying to climb over the hoarding onto the pitch. As he's pushed back by the stewards he is shouting at them and has to be held back by a number of other stewards."

In addition to the suspended sentence, the forklift driver was told to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £207 in costs and a victim surcharge.

Kershaw and Baker were let off with 12 month community orders.

The prosecutor said Baker, of Great Barr, Birmingham "threw several punches at the stewards" until he fell over.

Chloe Carvell, defending Baker, said he had to resign from his role in adult social services at Birmingham City Council because of the prosecution and now works as a binman.

She said: "He had drunk two bottles of Stella and had no sleep that day.

"He fell back and hit this on some metal and this caused him severe pain and that's part of the reason he reacted so badly. He saw red and reacted in self defence mode."

Ms Carvell said neither Baker nor Kershaw were "typical football hooligans".

She told the court Kershaw, of Swadlincote Derbyshire, owns a classic car restoration business and has lost a work contract after photos emerged of him at the match.

Prosecutors say Kershaw "slapped" an officer on the head as they tried to arrest another football fan who was misbehaving at the match.

This other man was never apprehended, the court heard.

Ms Carvell said: "The slap was to the top of the officer's hat. Mr Kershaw reacted impulsively.

"He is a passionate Aston Villa fan. His father, grandfather and great-grandfather lived opposite the park and he has been attending matches for 20 years and never been involved in an incident.

"He says he is sorry, ashamed and embarrassed and that it is extremely out of character."

Baker was told to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and Kershaw was told to carry out 120.

They were both told to pay costs and a victim surcharge of £175.

At a hearing today (October 4) Fairgrieve of Wootton, Northampton, was fined £668 for grabbing a steward for "a few seconds" during the melee.

Prosecutor Caroline Floyd said: "The footage shows Mr Fairgrieve grabbing hold of a steward and then being held back. He is held and dragged back by two males."

Ms Carvell said the health and safety advisor was provoked by stewards who allegedly shouted that the fans were "white trash" and "w*nkers".

A statement from Aston Villa Football Club was read in court, stating discussions had been held about the lifelong fan and it had been agreed he could continue to support the team at matches.

The club said: "He has been known as one of our most dedicated supporters. He has since signed an acceptable behaviour agreement to ensure future exemplary conduct."

Scaffolders Kurt Griffiths of Perry, Birmingham, and his son Reece Griffiths of Great Barr, Birmingham, were given three month community orders with a six week electronically monitored tag.

The season ticket holders were also told to pay £180 in court costs.

Ms Floyd said: "Footage shows Rhys Griffiths at the front of the stands he is pushing at stewards and is then seen to grab hold of another from behind. He then grabs hold of his father and holds him back.

"Kurt Griffiths is seen at the front of the stands to grab a steward on the upper body. He falls down and he is then seen to be pushing another steward away and is held back by his son. His behaviour is described as being aggressive and he is seen to grab a police officer from behind."

At earlier hearings, Ross, of Castle Brom, Birmingham, was handed a community order with 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £175 in fines, and Voss, of Paignton, Devon, was told to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work and pay £180 in costs.

Football fans in court after bottle and smoke bomb thrown at City match - 04/10/2021

Source : edp24.co.uk

A Norwich fan has appeared in court after he threw a bottle onto the pitch in frustration after City had a late equaliser disallowed in a match against Leicester.

Season 21/22 - October - Page 2 5skl

Harry Bland, 20, a Canaries season ticket holder, threw a bottle towards Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel in frustration.

It came after a Kenny McLean goal - which would have made the game 2-2 with about 10 minutes left - was ruled out by VAR.

Pretty Barber, prosecuting at Norwich Magistrates' Court, said the incident occurred during a Premier League clash at Carrow Road on August 28 this year.

She said: “The defendant was seen to throw an empty Coca Cola bottle onto the pitch in front of the goalkeeper.

“The goalkeeper picked up the bottle and showed it to the referee.”

She said the incident, following the controversial VAR decision, was spotted by a steward and Bland admitted it and apologised before being arrested.

Bland, of Long John Hill, Norwich, who has no previous convictions, appeared at court on Monday (October 4) when he admitted throwing a missile onto the pitch.

Representing himself in court, Bland said: “I can’t even explain it.

“I’ve been going for seven to eight years. I’m a season ticket holder and sit right at the front.”

Bland said the incident happened after Norwich’s equaliser was disallowed.

He said: “I was a bit annoyed. I threw my bottle.

“I’m pretty sure I threw it underarm. I didn’t throe it at the goalkeeper, I just threw it.”.

Bland was fined £250, ordered to pay £105 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Also appearing at court on Monday was a Leicester City fan, Liam Burns, who threw a smoke bomb onto the pitch during the same game.

The court heard Burns threw the firework onto the pitch after Jamie Vardy put the Foxes 1-0 up early on during the Premier League encounter.

Miss Barber said: “Leicester had scored a goal and during the celebration the defendant stepped to the right and threw a blue smoking flare, over arm, towards the pitch."

The defendant was just yards from a police officer at the time and was arrested.

She also said the prosecution was looking to impose a three-year football banning order on the defendant, banning him from all football grounds over the period.

Burns, from Hinkley, Leicestershire, appeared in court on Monday (October 4) when he admitted throwing a missile onto the pitch during the match.

James Burrows, mitigating, said the defendant, who has been a Leicester season ticket holder since he was 12, got “over-excited” after Vardy had just scored and was handed a tube which he lit and “threw it towards the pitch”.

Mr Burrows said it was “two seconds of madness”, during which he got “very excited” but was now “very remorseful”.
He said the defendant travels to games home and away with his grandfather, who had “expressed some strong words of disagreement” about his actions.

The court heard the incident has had a "chastening impact" upon the defendant who has been banned by Leicester City following the incident at Carrow Road.

Mr Burrows said Burns, a landscape gardener, was a hard working man who was saving for a deposit to buy a property with his partner, who he has been with for three years.

Burns was fined £300, ordered to pay £105 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

The defendant was told the issue over a football banning order was adjourned for a full hearing before city magistrates on November 3 at 10am.

Derbyshire football hooligan banned from matches for slapping steward - 06/10/2021

A football hooligan from Derbyshire has been banned from attending matches after slapping a steward.

Todd Kershaw, from Swadlincote, was one of a group of eight people who attacked stewards at a match between Aston Villa and Crystal Palace in London in August 2019.

The 36-year-old flew into a rage after an equalising goal by Henri Lansbury was disallowed by the referee, while Jack Grealish was booked for a dive in the build-up.

Kershaw was charged with affray following the incident, and the court was told that Kershaw, who owned a classic car restoration business, had lost a work contract after photos of him at the match emerged.

Detectives want to identify them as they could help with an investigation after football hooligans attacked stewards at a Cardiff City football match.

The images have been released after violence erupted during the Bluebirds’ match with Millwall at Cardiff City Stadium on August 21.

A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “Several safety stewards were injured during the incident.

“Following the match, officers would like the public’s help in identifying individuals they are keen to talk to.

“Officers believe the people in the images could have information which will help their investigations and would like to speak to them as soon as possible.”

France : Lens, Lille and Marseille told they will be docked points if hooligans run riot - 07/10/2021

Source : https://www.rfi.fr/

French football’s disciplinary watchdogs on Thursday fined Angers €20,000 and threatened to dock a point off Lens, Lille and Marseille if their fans misbehave again over the next 12 months.

The sanctions follow disturbances during the derby between Lens and Lille on 18 September at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis and Marseille’s visit to Angers on 22 September.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel’s (LFP) panel said Lille and Marseille fans would be barred from supporting their team at away matches until 31 December.

“We only fined Angers," said Sébastien Deneux, head of the LFP’s disciplinary committee. “And if the punishment seems less severe, it’s because the club appeared less at fault to us less than the other clubs concerned.”

Scuffles

In the flare-up at Lens, dozens of home fans spilled onto the pitch at half-time and headed over to the enclosure holding the Lille fans to goad them.

Six people were slightly injured after Lille supporters ripped out seats and hurled them onto the pitch before riot police stepped in to quell the violence. Lens won the game 1-0.

"Lens salutes the lucidity of the disciplinary committee, whose judgement was based on an in-depth and enlightened analysis of the facts," said a club statement.

"The club calls on everyone's sense of responsibility and will continue to be intransigent against any inappropriate behaviour."

Fans

During the Angers match against Marseille, away supporters threw firecrackers before around 40 of them escaped from their pen to try and attack nearby Angers supporters.

It was the third incident involving Marseille. At the beginning of August at Montpellier, the match was interrupted for several minutes after missiles were thrown at the Marseille Valentin Rongier who was caught on the head.

Montpellier's Florent Mollet was also hit as he prepared to take a corner.

On 22 August, the game at Nice was abandoned after Nice fans threw a bottle at the Marseille striker Dimitri Payet who threw it back into the crowd.

The midfielder’s gesture prompted scuffles between players, coaching staff and fans.

On 9 September, the LFP deducted a point from Nice and ordered them to play two matches behind closed doors after hundreds of fans invaded the pitch.

Colchester United fans coach targeted after Tranmere game

TRANMERE Rovers have 'strongly condemned' the incident that saw a bottle allegedly thrown at a coach full of Colchester United supporters following their League Two match, on Friday night.

The incident happened soon after the U's 2-0 defeat at Prenton Park, as the coach was getting ready to leave for the long journey back to Essex.

A bottle was allegedly thrown at the vehicle and hit the emergency glass window, shattering the outer pane but fortunately, no-one was injured.

A statement from Tranmere Rovers said: “We are aware of an incident which allegedly occurred after last night’s game and the Club strongly condemns this type of behaviour.

“Occurrences like this are thankfully quite rare at Prenton Park and the actions of a small minority does not reflect on our fantastic fan base.

“We will support the police with their ongoing investigations.”

Colchester United Supporters Association (CUSA) said it was lucky no-one was hurt, following the incident.

Five arrests after ADO – FC Den Bosch

Four of them are said to have committed open violence, one is said to have been guilty of insult and drunkenness. One of the detainees suffered minor injuries during the arrest.

Supporters of ADO made sure that the game had to be stopped in the opening phase of the game. Fireworks were thrown onto the field from Midden-North, the profession with fanatical supporters. The fans held up banners with texts such as ‘KNVB mafia’ and ‘they can take our points, but never our pride’.

When the fireworks were extinguished and the black smoke had cleared, the match continued. The stadium speaker called on the spectators to behave.
