Source : https://cyprus-mail.com/
Two male suspects, 16 and 20, were arrested late on Friday on suspicion of participating in clashes between AEL and Apollon football fans that saw eight vehicles damaged and one destroyed by fire.
The arrests came after evidence emerged against the two during police investigations into Thursday night’s incident.
Police said the minor gave a statement to the police in the presence of his legal guardian and was released.
The 20-year-old man was remanded for two days on Saturday.
The clashes were between supporters of Limassol sides Apollon and AEL, the latter playing away in Azerbaijan on Thursday.
The trouble kicked off at around 7pm when a number of individuals, who had gathered in the Ayios Antonios area where the Apollon clubhouse is located, started throwing stones at passing cars driven by fans of AEL, damaging two vehicles.
Two hours later, while the crowd was still assembled in Ayios Antonios, a large group of people wearing helmets and ski masks, arrived in the area prompting an exchange of stones and flares.
The clashes subsided half an hour later leaving behind an area resembling a warzone and a car that was destroyed by fire.
The fans also set rubbish bins on fire. A flare was also burning on the roof of a house but it was extinguished before the fire spread, police said.

Six arrests after Leeds and Man United fans clash in violent brawls as families 'hide for cover' - 14/08/2021
Source : https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/
Police have arrested six people after violent clashes erupted between Leeds United and Manchester United fans ahead of the first Premier League game of the season.
Footage captured before the match kicked off showed football fans throwing punches, chairs and even bins at each other as tensions rose in the streets of the city centre..
The match kicked off at 12.30pm today and Manchester United ended up winning 5-1, reports Manchester Evening News.
But video clips that emerged beforehand showed violent brawls across the city centre, with one showing a man violently attacking somebody with a bin.
A lone police officer was seen with a baton in his hand to disperse the crowd, while a man inside the Caffe Nero where the footage was taken says: "Good job we're in here. Oh my God."
A witness, who said he saw families forced to take cover from the hooligan down side roads, described chairs being 'thrown' and fighting. He said he later saw a lady 'hiding' with a pram from the fans.
The witness added that children who happened to be nearby seemed 'scared' by what was happening.
Another video which appears to have been taken from a large block of flats shows police holding back a large crowd of supporters.
Greater Manchester Police said that despite “isolated incidents of disorder” before kick-off, the event at Old Trafford on Saturday passed “largely without police incident”.
Police said that six arrests had been made over the course of the day – five in relation to public order offences and one on suspicion of drug offences.
The force said that work was also under way in conjunction with football investigating officers from both Manchester United and Leeds United to identify people involved in other incidents of disorder.
Chief Superintendent Stuart Ellison said: “Despite isolated incidents of disorder in the city centre prior to kick-off, today’s events at Old Trafford largely passed without police incident and I would like to thank the majority of the public for their cooperation throughout the day.
“Six arrests were made over the course of the day; five in relation to public order offences and one on suspicion of drug offences.
“These suspects remain in custody in cells in Greater Manchester for questioning this evening.
“Today was an important day for a lot of people with the return of capacity crowds at venues that have remained absent for such a long time, and I would like to thank the public, our officers and our partners from all agencies involved who helped make sure today was a safe and enjoyable affair for a vast majority of those concerned.”

Ugly scenes after Swansea City v Sheffield United match as metal railings thrown at fans
These are the ugly scenes as rival fans clashed following Swansea City's game against Sheffield United.
The match was the Swans' first home tie of the season - which saw Russell Martin's squad draw 0-0.
Following the full-time whistle, rival fans outside the ground squared off against each other with objects thrown from both sides, including railings.
Saturday's late game kick off saw 15,946 eager football fans return to the recently rebranded Swansea.com stadium, with an additional 500 tickets being awarded the same day for home fans to attend the game.
It was the first time in months that fans were allowed back inside the stadium at an increased capacity, following the easing of coronavirus restrictions.
Footage following the game reveals a large group fans collecting nearby the visitors travel area around the North Stand.
"Disgusting scenes at Swansea.com stadium tonight....should be ashamed of yourselves, no fans should be joining in, disgusting and disgraceful," said one Swans supporter.
Another added that those who took part in the incident were "not fans" with another arguing the violence had spoiled the game.
A spokesman for Swansea City said: "Swansea City is extremely disappointed with the behaviour of a small section of both home and away supporters following Saturday’s Championship fixture at the Swansea.com Stadium.
“The footage circulating on social media shows behaviour which is completely unacceptable. It will not be tolerated by the club and we are working with South Wales Police to identify the individuals concerned in order that appropriate steps may be taken.
“As a club we have worked tirelessly over many years to ensure a safe and enjoyable matchday experience for both home and away supporters, and we will be issuing further communication in due course regarding behaviour at matches.”
Within the video various objects are believed to be thrown in both directions including large metal railings with chants of "football's coming home".
Mounted police officers are seen to navigate their way through the home supporters with one thrown railing ricocheting and hitting an officer on horseback.
A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "We are investigating a disturbance that happened during the Swansea City vs Sheffield football match on Saturday, August 14.
"One police officer received a minor injury. One man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a steward.
