Rangers 'fans' Glasgow: Sectarian march blasted amid demand for police act against 'anti-Irish racists

A group of football fans have been slammed for ‘anti Irish racism’ displayed during a march through Glasgow city centre.

On Sunday, video emerged of a large group - Rangers supporters - singing 'the famine is over, why don't you go home' as they made their way along Argyle Street and under the Hielanman's Umbrella.

Since the footage was shared on social media showing dozens singing along, their actions have been widely condemned, with Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care Humza Yousaf saying he was left 'disgusted' by the footage, while adding that Scotland 'is home' to the Irish community.

Furthermore, MP for Glasgow North West Carol Monaghan commented: “Imagine this hatred was directed at any other group.

“This has to be called out for what it is - anti Irish racism.

“Our response as a city and as a country will determine how the Irish community feel in their own city.”

MSP for Glasgow Kelvin Kaukab Stewart added: "Appalling anti Irish racism. I stand in solidarity with our Irish communities

"Police Scotland must hold those responsible to account."

Meanwhile, the police force has been criticised for failing to action against the group, with uniformed officers seen walking on the pavement alongside the group.

Police investigating "unacceptable" damage at Hartlepool United v Carlisle United game

The damaged areas included a disabled section in the away end at Victoria Park.

Images of the damage were shared on social media after Saturday's game.

It has left Pools facing the task of repairing the mindless damage which was inflicted during the League Two game, which the home side won 2-1.

Cumbria Police have now said they are working with their Cleveland counterparts on the matter.

United fans have slammed the "idiots" who trashed seats at Hartlepool's ground.

Carlisle took about 1,000 fans to Victoria Park, and many of those have called for the individuals responsible for the damage to be punished and banned from attending future games.

Supporters said there was no excuse for the behaviour and that the "fans" who caused the damage do not represent Carlisle United.

Trouble flares at Macclesfield FC v Congleton Town non-league clash



Violence broke out at a non-league football match between neighbouring teams in Cheshire.

Footage shows fans clashing at Macclesfield FC's game against Congleton Town in the North West Counties on Monday afternoon.

It is the first time the two sides, from towns just nine miles apart, have met since Macclesfield FC was established last year after its predecessor Macclesfield Town was expelled from the National League.

Images from Macclesfield's Moss Rose groud, now known as The Leasing.com Stadium, showed yellow smoke bombs being let off shortly before the fans clashed reports Cheshire Live whilst other members of the crowd can be heard booing.

Seperate footage also shows players stood in front of the stand after the game as the trouble continues to flare with several attempting to address the crowd following the match.

One spectator said: "At first supporters were just throwing cans, and there were smoke bombs about 20 minutes before it kicked off.

"Then they all just kind of rushed each other."

Before the game, a fight have opposed 60 Grenoble supporters to Sochaux supporters.

In a few seconds, people gathered very quickly and clashed with also cans and chairs so police needed to intervene using pepper sprays.

They assaulted several people.

The game was classified as very high risk with the possible arrival of 300 category C supporters from Hansa.

On the day of the match, a large police force was present, with the reinforcement of the cavalry, water cannons and a helicopter. Many Rostock fans were checked in town without tickets to the match. The police closed the access to two bridges to prevent supporters of the two sides to confront.
