Source: Tifonet
S.S. Lazio's supporters are in the centre of racism episode again. Today, in many parts of Rome, expecially near Formello, Lazio's headquarter, appeared racist writings and heavy insults against the club's midfielder Fabio Liverani, bought last month from Perugia. " Liverani is yellow and red pig", "Liverani is dirty black" were few of the writings with svastikas. Liverani gave no comments over the situation yet.

| Iran police warn they will seriously confront football hooligans - 11/10/2001
Source: Reuters
Iranian police have warned they will "seriously confront" football hooligans at a World Cup Asian qualifying match between the national side and Iraq to be played here Friday. "Studies on celebrations which take place after Iranian wins in football games reveal that a minority of people try to abuse the situation and conduct illogical and abnormal acts and disrupt public order," police said in a statement published Thursday by the government-run Iran paper. "Police will seriously confront these people who disrupt public order and break the law and will hand them over to the judiciary," police warned. Last week, more than 180 people were arrested in Iran during celebrations to mark the country's 1-0 victory against Thailand in the Asian qualifying competition for the 2002 World Cup finals. "The police expect football fans to express their happiness without disrupting public order and without bringing traffic to a halt," Tehran police chief Mohsen Ansari was quoted as saying by the paper.

| RSC Charleroi - La Louvière - 13/10/2001
Source: mail
Not many things to tell concerning this high risks derby. Locals tried to contact Wolf-siders with the aim to have an off. These last ones refused but said if their coach will be stopped, they will be out of it, for a toe-to-toe. A car of locals took the road of La Louviere, with the aim to follow the coach of La Louviere fans. AS the coach entered the city-centrer, a group of local lads (+-15 as 3 different groups were waiting in different places for the coach). stopped the coach but Wolf-siders stayed inside, only chanting and provoking. Prior to the game, locals made a special show. A the end of the game, locals tried to find visitors, but they came back to their coach and police made an intervention on locals, making 5-6 arrests. Another no show for visitors!

| Italy adopts anti-violence law - 17/10/2001
Source: Yahoo
Italy's Senate Wednesday adopted tough new powers to strengthen the fight against football hooliganism, ANSA news agency reported. The Senate passed the law which had been sent back to them with modifications by the Chamber of Deputies to initial government proposals. The Chamber had objected to the granting of draconian powers for police to arrest suspected wrongdoers up to 48 hours after an alleged offence. With the modification a magistrate must now approve such an arrest. Under the new law judicial chiefs will be given more power to ban fans from attending stadia and new specific offences (such as invading the pitch or throwing objects). Racist or discriminatory propaganda is also outlawed while fans who try to avoid identification by wearing a crash helmet or other headgear will also be subject to punishment. The use of TV evidence or photographs to identify wrongdoers is also endorsed by the new law. In effect the law is already in application and has been since the start of the season on August 26 but it is only now that it has been formally adopted. Last season saw weekly episodes of violence around Italy's stadia. Some of the most notorious incidents saw a Messina supporter killed after being struck by a firecracker during a third division match and an incident at the San Siro where Inter Milan fans destroyed a scooter before throwing it down onto the seating below.

| Japan to bar hooligans from World Cup - 18/10/2001
Source: Reuters
Soccer hooligans, keep out. That's the message from Japan's justice ministry as it hurries to revise the immigration law to bar entry to anyone with a history of rioting before the World Cup next May. "We are targetting people who knock people over or wreck buildings or streets," said a justice ministry official. He said the new law would apply to anyone punished for rioting or being involved in violent protests with sentences of less than a year's imprisonment. Current Japanese law prevents the entry -- and allows the deportation -- of those sentenced to more than one year in jail, the official said. At a time of heightened global sensitivity to terrorism, the law will likely be welcomed, a Japanese expert on international law said. "If it's carried out carefully with due respect to fundamental human rights, I think it will be accepted by the public, at this time in particular when threats of terrorism are widespread," said Yasuhiko Yoshida, professor of international relations at the Osaka University of Economics and Law. The revision will also allow the deportation of fans arrested for rowdiness once they arrive in Japan. "We have to put an end to hooliganism, if it erupts, as soon as possible," the official said. At the same time, the ministry is drafting revisions to allow the deportation of those involved in organized crimes such as burglary or passport forgery -- relatively skilled crimes that have a high incidence of repeat offenders -- that carry sentences under one year, the official said. The ministry will try to submit the bill before the end of the current 72-day session of the Japanese Parliament, which began September 27, so it can be enacted before the 2002 FIFA World Cup, hosted by Japan and South Korea, starts next May.

| Hearts fans set to boycott derby - 19/10/2001
Source:
Hearts supporters are set to stage an unofficial boycott of the first Edinburgh derby of the season, at Easter Road, after rebelling against a hike in the standard Hibernian ticket price. Tynecastle fans buying tickets for Sunday's televised match are having to fork out 24 - thought to be the most expensive away ticket in Scottish football - with the result that barely 1,000 of the 3,500 allocation were sold by Thursday. Robin Beith, vice-chairman of the federation of Hearts supporters clubs, said: 'The slow sales are almost entirely related to the prices Hibs are charging. 'Normally, my own supporters club at Prestonpans takes up to 100 supporters to Easter Road for a derby - this time we have a take-up of just 16 tickets. 'Our secretary wrote to Hibs chief executive Rod Petrie saying how ridiculous their pricing policy has become, but he has not yet received a reply.' Hibs have a three-tier pricing policy and the Hearts fixture, which is normally close to a sell-out, is obviously in the top category. Beith added: 'Hearts also operate a system of categorising matches and we only charge Hibs supporters 19 - how can they justify charging us 5 more for the same fixture? 'We think Hibs tickets are the most expensive in Scotland and it's making it impossible for any working man to take his children to a game.' Hearts spokesman Douglas Dalgleish confirmed that just 1,000 briefs had been sold by the Gorgie Road ticket office, and added: 'Our fans appear to be saying what they think of the ticket prices for Sunday with the volume of sales so far.' Hibs spokesman David Forsyth said: 'The Hearts fans are only being asked to pay the same as home supporters. 'This is an attractive game and I can assure Hearts fans that, under SPL rules, we are not allowed to charge them more than we charge our own supporters. 'We hope that people would accept that facilities and entertainment at Easter Road are now top class.'

| Port Vale - Stoke City - 21/10/2001Source: Casual Culture The police commander in charge of the Potteries derby has condemned the behaviour of hooligan supporters after violence flared between rival sets of supporters. A total of 84 fans were arrested in the Burslem area as a result of incidents which took place throughout yesterday. Supt Nick Howe spoke out after a series of incidents including:- A confrontation involving about 100 fans armed with iron bars, sticks and bricks. A pitch invasion and fighting inside the ground.A photographer hit by a coin Supt Howe said two pub licensees in Cobridge and Burslem are to be prosecuted after allegedly opening their doors to rival fans at 10.30am, in breach of licensing laws. The Superintendent added: "If this was a day for civic pride then as a police commander I was immensely disappointed. We were very disappointed by the standard of behaviour from the hooligan element." From the 84 arrested, 17 fans are facing charges, with two people bailed while police continue to investigate allegations of racial chanting. Police in riot gear clashed with rival fans as a catalogue of violent scenes marred the derby. During the match, bottles and coins were thrown on to the field from the Stoke City end of Vale Park with a photographer received a facial injury after being struck by a coin. In the second half, officers set up police lines in front of both sets of fans after a Stoke City equaliser sparked fresh violence among supporters. Police intervened after fears the group was heading to Cobridge, the scene of race riots earlier this year. And at 7.15pm more than 100 rival fans armed with iron bars, sticks and bricks clashed in Newcastle Street, Longport. Mr Howe confirmed the 60 people who were arrested in Burslem to prevent a breach of the peace will not face charges. Inquiries into the clashes in Longport are continuing. Hundreds of police officers were on duty for yesterday's match in a massive policing operation complicated by the close proximity of Vale Park to Burslem town centre. pressence was required to keep rival fans apart as the Potteries Derby ended in a draw. ************************************************************* Source : BBC News 84 people were arrested after rival fans clashed at the local derby. | Iran judiciary warn fans against disrupting public order - 24/10/2001
Source: Reuters
Iran's judiciary warned the nation's soccer fans Wednesday against disrupting public order and announced that a special court had been set up to try those who do, the state IRNA news agency said. "A special court has been created to try those people accused of disrupting public order," and notably those who "destroy public property," the judiciary statement said. Although the statement made no direct reference to football-related rioting, it comes just two days after trouble broke out in Tehran and other parts of the country after Iran's 3-1 defeat by Bahrain in a vital World Cup qualifier. The statement pointed out that agitators must be distinguished from those who are merely "expressing their joy." Iran now face a home and away play-off on October 25 and 31 against the United Arab Emirates to decide who will play the Republic of Ireland for a place in the 2002 World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea next year.
