Watford FC - Wolverhampton Wanderers - FA Cup - 07/04/2019

Source : https://www.dailymail.co.uk/

A Wolves supporter confronted a Watford fan and pushed him as supporters appeared to leave the stadium.

He then hit out at other nearby Watford supporters before a Hornets fan in a club away shirt launched punches back.

The Wolves fan fell to the ground and more supporters joined in by kicking him.

The Wolves supporter returned to his feet and the fight continued before enough people managed to break it up.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told The Sun that five arrests were made at the FA Cup tie but could not confirm if any were related to the incident.

Netherlands : Police find hand grenade at ADO The Hague supporters HQ - 09/04/2019

Source : https://www.foxsports.com/

Police in The Hague say they found a hand grenade at a building used by supporters of the city’s soccer team, ADO The Hague.

A photo published by local media showed the grenade hanging next to the building, which had also been sprayed with three Xs in red paint.

Local broadcaster Omroep West reported that a training session for ADO at its stadium nearby was halted while the grenade was removed.

The graffiti appears to suggest involvement of somebody from Amsterdam. The Dutch capital’s coat of arms features three Xs.

Amsterdam is home to Ajax, the Amsterdam club taking on Juventus on Wednesday in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Jacco van Leeuwen, chairman of the ADO supporters’ association, tells Omroep West “this is absolutely a new deep point in soccer history.”

In February, vandals suspected of being soccer hooligans from The Hague painted graffiti including swastikas and anti-Semitic texts on buildings in Amsterdam ahead of a match between ADO and Ajax. Ajax is often portrayed as a club with historic links to Amsterdam’s Jewish community.

Scotland : Motherwell ban supporter over objects thrown during clash with Rangers - 09/04/2019

Source : https://www.countypress.co.uk/

Motherwell have confirmed they have banned a supporter responsible for hurling an object at Rangers captain James Tavernier during Sunday’s Fir Park clash.

Football’s season of shame was once again dragged into the gutter when referee Nick Walsh was forced to temporarily halt play during Gers’ 3-0 win near the end of the first half after both a cigarette lighter and a pie were aimed at the Ibrox skipper.

Tavernier dodged both but Walsh was filmed handing over the lighter to police before requesting officers and stewards surround a section housing Well’s ultras group in the East Stand.

Now club chiefs say they have been able to identify one of the culprits after studying CCTV footage and have reacted by issuing an “indefinite” ban.

The Steelmen say they are also continuing to investigate a second individual who they believe threw the other object and plan to issue another suspension order “as soon as possible”.

Motherwell chairman Jim McMahon said: “We condemn the irresponsible actions of two of our fans, whose moment of recklessness has cast an unfortunate shadow over our whole support.

“It gives us absolutely no pleasure or satisfaction to ban anyone from Fir Park.

“As a fan-owned and fan-run club, we have tried to campaign for the rights of supporters. We have been vocal in our opposition to any suggestion or notion of strict liability.

“However, with that comes a responsibility to act if any of our own step out of line, particularly if we have such clear and obvious evidence.

“I am sure our supporters understand that we are left with no other option but to take a hard-line approach with not only these two individuals, but anyone else who steps out of line.”

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard reacted with frustration after the match as he was again forced to condemn those dragging the Scottish game through the mud.

The Fir Park incident came just 24 hours after Hearts’ Edinburgh derby clash with Hibernian was marred by unsavoury scenes.

A coconut and smoke bombs were thrown onto the Tynecastle pitch while Hibs substitute Marvin Bartley was subjected to a sickening racist rant by a Jambos fan.

“It’s a sad thing to see in this league but there’s a lot of it going on and there’s a lot of other sad stuff that’s going on in world football,” said Gerrard.

“It seems like we’re trying to send messages out every time we speak to the media, which is a shame.

“It’s dangerous for the players when there are objects thrown on to the pitch, whether it be a lighter or whatever it may be. It needs to stop.”

Source : https://www.football-italia.net/

120 Juventus fans arrested

There are reports of 120 Juventus fans arrested in Amsterdam, while Ajax supporters clashed with riot police in separate incidents.

The Champions League quarter-final first leg kicks off at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

You can follow the build-up and action as it happens on the LIVEBLOG.

There have been several incidents building up to the game, as fans begin to make their way into the Johan Cruijff Arena.

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Interior Matteo Salvini confirmed via a Facebook live video that there had been “around 120 arrests because people were found carrying objects that were not exactly appropriate for a trip to the stadium.

“Football is beautiful, sport is beautiful, but only with clean hands and a clean face, without creating trouble, so be good.”

Those arrests found knives, screwdrivers, sticks and pepper spray in searches on fans in Amsterdam city centre.

Separately to that situation, dozens of Ajax hooligans tried to attack the police just outside the stadium and officers responded with horseback charges, tear gas and water cannon.

The Amsterdam police carried out charges before the Champions League quarter final match between Ajax and Juventus at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Wednesday evening. Over 30 football supporters were arrested. Earlier in the day the police arrested over a hundred armed Italian supporters. The total number of arrests came to more than 140, NU.nl reports.

The police charges were prompted by fans who wanted to participate in a so-called entrada, a party with which Ajax fans sometimes usher in important matches. The entrada is always accompanied by a lot of signing and fireworks. The police used a water canon to extinguish fireworks that supporters had lit. There were also incidents of public violence, such as items being thrown at people, and windows being broken at the south side of the Arena.

On Wednesday afternoon, the police arrested two large groups of Italian supporters at the stadium and at Weesperplein station in the city center. The supporters were armed with extendable batons, flagpoles, pepper spray, a hammer and a knife. According to NU.nl 107 Italians were arrested. According to Italian media, the police arrested around 120 people. The detainees were taken to a detention center by bus.

Slavia Prague - Chelsea FC - 11/04/2019

Source : https://www.supersport.com/

Chelsea condemn 'abhorrent' racism, ban three fans from Slavia game

Chelsea condemned "abhorrent discriminatory behaviour" after reportedly preventing three supporters from attending their Europa League quarterfinal first leg clash at Slavia Prague on Thursday.

The Premier League club's security team identified the fans from a video on Twitter showing them singing a derogatory song about former Chelsea forward Mohamed Salah, now of Liverpool, according to British media reports.

"Chelsea FC finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour abhorrent and where there is clear evidence of Chelsea season ticket holders or members involved in such behaviour, we will take the strongest possible action against them," Chelsea said in a statement.

"Such individuals are an embarrassment to the vast majority of Chelsea supporters who won't tolerate them in their club."

Four Chelsea supporters were previously suspended by the club after Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling was racially abused at Stamford Bridge in December.

Manager Maurizio Sarri backed the club's strong stance after his team's 1-0 quarterfinal, first-leg win in Prague.

"I don't want to talk about this because I didn't see the video," he said. "Yes, I think it is right (that the club takes action), but you have to ask the club. It was a very strong decision and I think it's right."

Liverpool also thanked Chelsea for their quick response to the video, and said in a statement that they are working with Merseyside Police to try and identify the fans.

Cottbus, the second largest city in the state of Brandenburg, with their right-wing extremist potential, violence and, at times, aggressive mood, always making the headlines again. The protection of the Constitution, to be referred to the area of Cottbus recently as a “Hotspot” of right-wing extremism in Brandenburg. The head of unit of public Relations of the constitutional protection of Brandenburg, Heiko Homburg, speaks of about 400 extreme right-wing people. Standard de Liège - RSC Anderlecht - 12/04/2019

Source : https://www.bbc.com/ + https://www.sudinfo.be/

Standard Liege's league game against rivals Anderlecht was abandoned after 30 minutes because of flares thrown by visiting supporters.

The match was twice interrupted before referee Erik Lambrechts ended the Belgian championship play-off match with Liege leading 2-0.

"The management of the club strictly disapproves of the behaviour," Anderlecht posted on social media.

"This is absolutely intolerable for football."

The first interruption came shortly after Liege's Alen Halilovic had a goal ruled out by the video assistant referee (VAR).

Razvan Marin scored the opener in the 22nd minute but play was suspended once more, for about 10 minutes, again for smoke on the pitch.

Soon after the match restarted, Liege were awarded a penalty when VAR ruled that Kara Mbodji had fouled Moussa Djenepo in the area. The Anderlecht player was sent off for a second yellow card before Paul-Jose Mpoku converted from the spot.

Another set of flares landed on the pitch resulting in referee Lambrechts abandoning the match.

Ajax fans face Dutch trial four years after rampage in Glasgow ahead of Celtic clash - 14/04/2019

Source : https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/

The fans, including one woman, will face trial in the Netherlands after alleged assaults and riot before a Europa League match at Celtic Park in November 2015.

Season 18/19 - April - Page 2 190414125823490252

Dutch supporters who allegedly went on the rampage before a match against Celtic are to face trial in the Netherlands – four years after fans were attacked in pubs.

Scots prosecutors passed responsibility for the case to their counterparts in Amsterdam.

It will be the first time a large number of people arrested in Scotland face trial in their home nation over crimes they have been accused of committing in this country.

Proceedings have started against 15 suspects – including one woman – who allegedly carried out assaults before a Europa League match at Celtic Park in November 2015, which Ajax won 2-1.

In what was seen as a highly unusual move, the Crown Office decided to pass the case to prosecutors in Holland.

Unlike in the UK, Dutch authorities have the power to prosecute citizens for an offence regardless of where it happened.

The Netherlands Public Prosecution Service confirmed its questioning of suspects has concluded and a trial is planned later this year.

However, it is thought that investigators from either Police Scotland or the Crown Office will travel to Holland to appear before an examining judge.

Justice department spokesman Franklin Wattimena said: “All suspects have been questioned, the last one in January of this year.

“At the request of some lawyers, the examining judge will interview two Scottish reporting officers.

“The prosecutor will plan a pre-trial review this summer and hopefully we can go to trial at the end of the year.”

Despite advance warnings that Dutch troublemakers intended to cause havoc, up to 40 thugs wearing masks and balaclavas were able to launch a highly organised attack on four pubs popular with Celtic supporters.

Doormen pulled down shutters to protect terrified fans inside but staff and patrons of The Hoops Bar on Gallowgate suffered injuries.

Pub manager Neil O’Donnell was battered with an iron bar. When police eventually arrived, his attackers were still jumping on his head.

He needed plates inserted into his face by surgeons. His attackers were back in the Netherlands before they could be identified.

Neil, of Crookston, Glasgow, says he can no longer smile because of his injuries.

He said: “I’m delighted something is happening at last.

“I must admit I didn’t think anyone would ever face charges because the hooligans got out of the country that night. When the Crown Office passed the file to Dutch prosecutors, I thought that would be the end of it.

“It would be brilliant if someone is eventually found guilty and punished.”

He added: “The attack has changed my life and affected my confidence.

“I don’t open the bar so much now because I get anxious and apprehensive, and I won’t open the doors unless I’ve got security.”

It is unlikely any of the victims will be asked to attend the trial as there has been no suggestion any of them could identify the hooligans.

Police Scotland said it was not aware of any request for its officers to travel to Amsterdam.

Sunderland AFC - Coventry City - 12/04/2019

Source : https://www.shieldsgazette.com/

Police arrest eight people as they investigate 'disorder' at Sunderland v Coventry City match at Stadium of Light

Reports were made of objects being thrown from the away end into the stands below.

A number of Sunderland fans have said they saw items including bottles, coins and even flares being thrown into the lower area of the North Stand of the stadium from the upper section of the stand which housed away supporters.

A spokesperson for Sunderland AFC said that several fans were injured after being hit by items or had property damaged at the game.

Video footage has also emerged on social media which it is claimed shows Sunderland and Coventry City fans fighting in a pub.

Police made eight arrests in total yesterday resulting in one man being charged with breaching a football banning order, two men being charged with public order offences and three men being released under common law.

Two men faced no further action.

Five further people were ejected for breach of ground regulations.

Northumbria Police has confirmed it is working with Sunderland AFC and Coventry City FC as they investigate the matter.

SAFC owner Stewart Donald has said he is "distraught" by reports of trouble and will be investigating what happened.

Match commander, Chief Inspector Jamie Pitt, said: "While the majority of fans who attended the match behaved incredibly well, the actions of a small minority have spoilt the day for many and this is totally unacceptable.

"Notwithstanding there was a notable steward and police presence at the ground for the match we are aware of the issue of objects being thrown from the away end.

"There is absolutely no place in football for this sort of behaviour and we are working closely with both clubs to help locate those responsible and we will take action on anyone found to be involved."

A spokesperson from Sunderland AFC said: "Sunderland AFC is disappointed by the disrespectful behaviour of many away fans at the home match against Coventry City yesterday.

"SAFC and Northumbria Police had been in contact with both Coventry and its fans group ahead of the game, acknowledging that there would likely be some sort of protest, and trying to ensure that the match could go ahead in a safe and respectful environment for both sets of fans.

"That turned out not to be the case, with Sunderland fans in the lower tier of the North Stand being subjected to projectiles thrown from the upper tier, where away fans were housed.

"Several Sunderland fans were either injured by the projectiles or had property damaged by smoke bombs thrown from above.

"There were numerous other offences committed, all of which were especially disappointing given Sunderland AFC 's willingness to speak to Coventry fans ahead of the game.

"In response, Sunderland fans demonstrated admirable restraint in the circumstances, for which the club is grateful."

England : Eleven Oxford United fans subject to banning orders in 2017/18 - 15/04/2019

Source : https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/

THE number of Oxford United fans banned from attending football matches increased last season.

Eleven U's supporters were subject to banning orders during the 2017/18 campaign, with four new orders issued, according to Home Office figures.

All four were handed out following incidents at away matches and contributed to a slight rise in the number of fans banned, up from eight and seven in 2015/16 and 2016/17 respectively.

Just five United supporters were arrested throughout the season, down from 22 in 2015/16 and 15 the following year.

An Oxford United spokesperson said: "We take such things seriously. We work very hard with the relevant authorities to create a safe and family friendly atmosphere at all games, home and away.

"We'll continue to try to get that number to fall for the years to come."

The statistics show data for the four seasons from 2014/15, when 14 United fans were banned in total.

Last season's figures are a slight jump compared to the previous two years, despite six new orders being issued in 2015/16.

That campaign saw the U's promoted from League Two, but it also represented a high in the number of arrests for the period.

Of the five arrests last season, just one came on a matchday at the Kassam Stadium, with the other four occurring at away games.

Two arrests were made for violent disorder and one for public disorder, while the other two resulted from possession of pyrotechnics - for example flares and smoke bombs.

Three fans of rivals Swindon Town were given new orders last season, bringing the total number banned in 2017/18 to 12.

Banning orders generally last between three and five seasons, meaning the figures for 2017/18 could include supporters who were stopped from going to games as far back as 2013.

The period also includes some notable flare-ups at United games in recent years.

Eight men were arrested after trouble marred the U's Johnstone's Paint Trophy area final second leg clash with Millwall in February 2016. Those detained included supporters of both clubs.

One year later, a number of fans were arrested outside the County Ground when United beat Swindon 2-1 - the last time the two sides met in a league game.

League Two side Grimsby Town and Sunderland, then in the Championship, saw 28 fans given new orders last season, a joint-high for the top four divisions.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United had the most supporters banned in total in 2017/18, with 79 overall. Birmingham City topped the arrests table with 95.

The figures for the 2018/19 season are due to be released later this year.

OxVox, the Oxford United Supporters' Trust, did not respond to a request for comment.

Levski Sofia - Ludogorets Razgrad - 14/04/2019

Levski Sofia fan falls through the tunnel trying to kick Ludogorets' Cosmin Moti

There were chaotic scenes in tonight's Bulgarian derby between Levski Sofia and Ludogorets.

The two sides are fighting for the title, with Levski's rivals CSKA also squeezed into the race for glory.

And it was a big night for Ludogorets, who claimed a priceless 2-0 win away in Sofia to move three points clear of CSKA and nine ahead of Levski.

But the game will probably forever be remembered for the chaotic scenes after the sending off of Ludogorets defender Cosmin Moti.

The Romanian colossus was given his marching orders after his side went 2-0 up and then had to leave the pitch under a police escort.

But despite the police presence, one fan actually jumped on the tunnel to kick Moti, with riots breaking out in the stands.
