Chelsea to send racist fans on Auschwitz trips instead of banning them - 11/10/2018
Source : https://www.theguardian.com/
Chelsea want to send racist supporters on trips to the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz instead of imposing banning orders.
The club’s owner, Roman Abramovich, who is Jewish, is at the forefront of the initiative, designed to tackle antisemitism among fans. Chelsea want to offer supporters caught being racist the chance to attend education courses at the second world war concentration camp in Poland instead of being banned from attending matches at the Premier League club.
“If you just ban people, you will never change their behaviour,” the Chelsea chairman, Bruce Buck, told the Sun. “This policy gives them the chance to realise what they have done, to make them want to behave better.
“In the past we would take them from the crowd and ban them, for up to three years. Now we say: ‘You did something wrong. You have the option. We can ban you or you can spend some time with our diversity officers, understanding what you did wrong.’”
Chelsea publicly criticised a number of their own fans for antisemitic chanting against rivals Tottenham in September 2017.
Buck said: “It is hard to act when a group of 50 or 100 people are chanting. That’s virtually impossible to deal with or try to drag them out of the stadium. But if we have individuals that we can identify, we can act.”
The club sent a delegation to Auschwitz for the annual March of the Living in April, while 150 staff and supporters went on a day trip in June to the site which once housed Nazi death camps while Poland was under German occupation.
Buck said: “The trips to Auschwitz were really important and effective and we will consider more as well as other things that will affect people.”
The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust is in favour of the plan, while the Football Supporters Federation’ also lent support. The campaigns and diversity manager, Anwar Uddin said: “The FSF have long advocated and promoted educational sessions with supporters found to have used discriminatory language. We completely agree with Bruce Buck that simply banning people doesn’t change behaviour or attitudes and applaud Chelsea for being one of the first Premier League clubs to so publicly advocate this approach and hope others follow their example.”
On Wednesday Chelsea previewed a new film at the Houses of Parliament aimed at raising awareness of the consequences of antisemitism, interspersing images of offensive chants and social media posts alongside images from the Holocaust. Buck told the club’s website: “We are just trying to make a dent in the antisemitism in this world. Over time we hope to make a real contribution for good to society.”

Greek champion AEK Athens to lose points for fan violence - 12/10/2018
Source : https://www.apnews.com/
Sporting authorities in Greece say defending league champion AEK Athens will be docked three points, fined 73,250 euros and play two home games without fans as punishment for fan violence at a recent soccer match.
The penalty was announced Friday by a sports magistrate but is not likely to take effect until the case is heard on appeal.
AEK fans clashed with police outside the Olympic Stadium, hurling rocks and petrol bombs last Sunday during a match against Olympiakos. The game finished 1-1.
PAOK Thessaloniki currently leads the standings with 16 points from six matches, level with Atromitos. AEK and Olympiakos follow with 13 points each.

Democratic Football Lads' Alliance march turns violent as supporters fight with police - 13/10/2018
Source : https://www.mirror.co.uk/
Supporters of the far-right group were marching in central London before some of them started to push through their police escorts
A march by the Democratic Football Lads' Alliance in central London spilled over into violent scenes today as protesters fought with police.
Supporters of the far-right group were marching from Park Lane to Whitehall before some of them started to push through their police escorts.
Dozens were seen fighting with police officers, with one seen threatening a policeman and screaming "I'll kill you".
Scores of police on horseback and wearing riot gear tried to control the swelling groups with police vans trying to block them in.
Many DLFA supporters seemed extremely hostile to police, screaming at them for perceived inaction against "paedos and grooming gangs".
The Mirror's Kevin Maguire said a DFLA executive member had promised '100,000 football hooligans' would take to the streets.
However, figures suggest around 1,500 people joined the protest with around 2,000 on a counter-protest opposing them.
On Facebook , the DFLA organisers had said they were protesting "returning jihadists", "thousands of Awol migrants", "rape gangs and groomers", and "veterans treated like traitors".
The DFLA have previously organised marches in Sunderland, Birmingham and London, with support of UKIP leader Gerard Batten and former EDL leader Tommy Robinson.
DFLA demonstrator Peter Mantell, 53, from Crayford, told the Press Association: "I detest some of the people I'm walking with.
"A lot of them hate people because of the colour of their skin.
"I'm a lefty. But I believe we should have a voice against the people who want to hurt everyone and cause harm."
Mr Mantell said he was a supporter of former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson.
Counter-protesters, representing groups such as Momentum and trade unions, managed to block the DFLA march route at one point.
The counter-protesters, many of them masked, were shouting: "Nazi scum off our streets" and were kept away from the DFLA protest.
A Momentum spokesperson said: "Violent, far-right groups like the DFLA are a danger to our country. We cannot sit idly by whilst they mobilise."
Scotland Yard said it had made only one arrest so far.

'Drunken' England fans clash with riot police in Seville before Spain game
Rowdy England fans have had to be dispersed by riot police in Seville after vandalising cars during a drink-fuelled night of anti-social behaviour.
Footage of the noisy supporters kicking wing mirrors off vehicles parked in the street and aggressively circling motorists seemed to show British police pleas to travelling fans to avoid a repeat of the last Spain visit had fallen on deaf ears in some quarters.
One hooligan was filmed throwing a glass at a passing car in the centre of the Spanish city.
Riot police had to intervene to fire warning shots in the air as the situation threatened to spiral out of control, provoking a mini-stampede among some of the England supporters out in force last night ahead of today’s Nations League match.
There were no immediate reports of any arrests or serious injuries.
Around 3,000 fans have travelled to the southern Spanish city.
Deputy Chief Constable Mark Roberts, Britain’s top football police officer, urged the supporters to be on their best behaviour yesterday/on Sunday and said it would be “incredibly disheartening” to see a repeat of the drink-fuelled clashes that marred England’s last visit to Spain three years ago when English hooligans fought each other in the streets.
A small number of fans appeared to ignore his pleas last night after a day of drinking by going on a wrecking spree in the city centre around Paseo Colon and Avenida Reyes Catolicos, two of Seville’s main streets.
A bottle was thrown at a passing car surrounded by the group of men as they advanced along the street.
Moments later they were filmed running towards the scene of an apparent confrontation involving police and England supporters, before sprinting back in the same direction shouting ‘England, England’ as officers fired warning shots into the air to disperse them and stopping to regroup on a street corner.
One fan - dressed in shorts and a T-shirt - was recorded picking up a bar chair and sitting down in the middle of the road briefly as he blocked oncoming traffic.
A number of others were filmed grabbing chairs from pavement restaurants as riot police arrived and holding them menacingly above their heads in the air, although seconds later they sat on them and started to take selfies.

PSG-Red Star Belgrade game under UEFA investigation into crowd trouble - 19/10/2018
Source : https://www.skysports.com/
French authorities investigating claims of match-fixing in Group C encounter at Parc des Princes on October 3 already underway. Both PSG and Red Star deny wrongdoing.
UEFA have launched an investigation into crowd disturbances that marred Paris St Germain's 6-1 Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade this month.
PSG could face punishment for fans setting off fireworks during the match and were also fined 20,000 euros (£17,503) by the European football's governing body for a delayed kick-off.
Red Star were charged with crowd trouble and illicit chants, following the match at Parc des Princes on October 3.
French authorities confirmed last week they are investigating the game over suspicions of match-fixing. Both clubs have denied any wrongdoing.
A Red Star official is suspected of betting 5m euros (£4.4m) on the Serbian side losing the Group C match by five goals, French newspaper L'Equipe reported on October 12.
PSG released a statement to say they "categorically reject any and all direct and indirect implication in relation to these suspicions".
PSG are third in the Group C standings but level on points with second-placed Liverpool, with Red Star bottom and Napoli top of the table.
