German Hooligans Fight After Saturday Morning Youth Team Game
An under-19 match isn’t the first place you’d expect to find an outbreak of football hooliganism, but there was trouble following a match between the youth teams of German sides Greuther Furth and Nuremburg which took place on Saturday morning.
The two clubs are bitter local rivals – Furth is situated on the outskirts of the Bavarian city of Nuremburg – and it seems that 25-30 Nuremburg supporters turned up at the match with the intention of causing trouble. At the final whistle, as the sparse crowd left the Sportzentrum Kleeblatt stadium – where Greuther stage their academy home games – the Nuremburg supporters attacked a group of Greuther supporters. It is thought that the trouble was pre-arranged.
“Colleagues on the ground could not intervene,” Fürth police officer Peter Messing told local newspaper NordBayern.
Reinforcements were called in and after a number of hours within the vicinity of the stadium the Nuremburg group were led away to the local subway station to catch a train back to the city centre. One person was later arrested.
In the video below a number of people can be seen lying apparently unconscious after the fight but Herr Messing claims that no injuries were reported.
“That is common in ultra circles,” he said.
A number of family groups were present at the match.
The Nuremburg fans are reported to be from a violent group known as BdA – Banda di Amici – an Italian phrase meaning ‘Band of Friends’.
For Messing this is brings a whole new dimension to football hooliganism. Both sides’ first teams play in Bundesliga 2 – the second tier of football in Germany – but Herr Messing admits that the police weren’t prepared for violence at a youth-team game.
“We’ve never had anything like this in youth games,” he said. “Even with derbys involving reserve teams we tend to look a little more closely, today was totally unexpected.”

Tension was high this Saturday afternoon as Brigade Loire (FCN) refused to be controlled by police forces. Firecrackers and tear gas were exchanged.
Then, a hundred supporters finally entered the stadium using a second door and they sung against Waldemar Kita, Nantes chairman.
Finally, supporters left the Marcel-Saupin stadium to take to road to La Beajoire to watch the game Nantes-Lille.
A hundred of them took place in Brady's Irish pub and about 20 police vans took place in front of them.

Brawling erupted both inside and outside the Centenario Stadium between fans of Penarol and Nacional.
Footage shows fans chasing each other outside of the ground, and a police officer appearing to be struck by a bucket.
More than 100 hooligans were arrested as they fought with riot and mounted police, according to local media.
The game was abandoned after police allegedly found a firearm in the crowd during the first half.
Nacional, who are in second spot in Uruguay's top flight, could have gone top with a win, while Penarol are struggling in 11th-place in the 16-team table.

Leicester and Middlesbrough fans in mass brawl after game
The short clip, taken by a supporter leaving the stadium, shows a scuffle between the two groups of fans that quickly turns in a full-on punch up.
Despite a heavy police presence visible in the background, a melee erupts in which at least five individuals can be counted throwing punches.
One man is dropped after being smacked from behind before the tussle is broken up by passers-by.
Police eventually arrive on the scene holding riot batons as the two sets of supporters continue to square off while separated by a line of officers.
“Absolute joke this, handbags at dawn stuff. Pull yourselves together everyone,” wrote one user after the footage was posted on Twitter.
Another comment read: “What was with that cheap shot from behind? Scummy fans!”
“Fellas, the 1980s finished a long time ago; time to move on and to start acting your age, not your shoe size,” a third viewer said.

Chelsea fan 'knocked out in savage assault' at Stamford Bridge before Tottenham game
A Chelsea fan was allegedly floored by a punch and knocked unconscious in “a savage and unprovoked attack” at Stamford Bridge before the weekend derby against Tottenham.
Edward Gumm, 36, fell to the floor after he was apparently hit on the side of the head as he entered the ground at about 5.15pm just before kick-off on Saturday.
The father-of-two, from Bexley, south-east London, was left with a suspected serious brain injury and broken jaw after the attack.
His family said a CT scan subsequently found no bleeding on his brain but he was left needing 10 stitches and is suffering from severe concussion.
Scotland Yard said it was investigating the assault and issued an appeal for witnesses today.
A Met Police spokesman said: “At around 5.15pm, the victim - aged in his 30s - was punched on the side of the head while entering the ground at Fulham Road, SW6 near to the Britannia Gate.
“The man fell to the ground, and was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury. He has since been discharged from hospital.
“Officers from Hammersmith and Fulham are investigating. There has been no arrest.”

France : PSG supporter jailed while another acquitted following trial this week - 30/11/2016
Source : http://www.espnfc.com/
One Paris Saint-Germain supporter has been sentenced to prison and another one acquitted after a trial over the death of a fan six years ago.
Following Marseille's 3-0 win over PSG at Parc des Princes back in February 2010, supporter Yann Lorence was involved in a violent exchange with other fans of the capital club outside the stadium.
Lorence, 37, was left in a critical condition and hospitalised but was pronounced clinically dead the following month because of the injuries he sustained that night.
The two PSG supporters, Jeremi Banh (35) and Romain Lafon (37), went on trial last Thursday charged with "voluntary violence that resulted in the unintentional death" of Lorence.
Banh was sentenced to five years in prison on Wednesday, while Lafon was acquitted. Banh will serve a minimum of three years in jail as the final two of his sentence will depend on his behaviour during the first three.
If released after three years, he will not be allowed to carry a firearm and cannot be in the vicinity of a stadium.
Lafon is actually already in prison because he was part of clashes between PSG and Malmo fans in the French capital last September and he is not due to be released until next year.
Lorence's death led PSG to take action against their ultra supporters and ultimately resulted in the revocation of all season tickets at Parc des Princes and the exile of all ultra groups under "Plan Leproux," led by former club president Robin Leproux.
Leproux was called as a witness in the case against the two fans last week and spoke in court on the second day.
It has taken PSG's ultras until this year to finally receive the green light to return to Parc des Princes after years away and their return was first celebrated during the 2-0 win over Bordeaux in early October.

England : Police release CCTV of Port Vale fans fighting Barnsley supporters in Burslem town centre - 30/11/2016
Source : http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/
This is the shocking CCTV footage showing Port Vale fans fighting rival supporters in a town centre.
Police have released the footage to The Sentinel after nine Vale fans were sentenced in court for their part in the trouble.
It captures violence erupting in Market Place, Burslem – between The Leopard and The Saggar Makers pubs – ahead of a League One match against Barnsley in September 2014.
At one point an advertising board and other missiles are thrown, while some fans are punched and kicked as shocked bystanders watch on.
Many then flee and the brawl breaks up as around a dozen police officers swiftly arrive on the scene. In all, the incident lasted around eight minutes.
DCI Ricky Fields, of Staffordshire Police's force safeguarding and investigation team, said the investigation had been 'painstaking' and 'meticulous'.
He added: "A great deal of time and effort has gone into ensuring these offenders were brought to justice and I'm pleased they have finally been convicted.
"Football is a game watched by adults and children alike. It is wholly unacceptable that so-called fans use violence in the name of football.
"As a force we are determined to tackle the problems caused by individuals who behave in such a disgraceful manner and who ruin the match day experience for genuine fans.
"Spectators have the right to feel safe when they go to a football match and, working with the football clubs and our partners, we will do our utmost to stamp out the element that can't behave appropriately."
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the Vale fans acted 'like a pack of animals' after becoming embroiled in the organised street battle.
One of the Vale supporters had organised the showdown after exchanging text messages before the match.
He added: "A great deal of time and effort has gone into ensuring these offenders were brought to justice and I'm pleased they have finally been convicted.
Ringleader Elliot Jordan, aged 24, of Endon Road, Norton, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and was handed a 20-month prison sentence and a six-year football banning order for planning the fight.
Seven other Vale fans also admitted violent disorder and were handed suspended sentences and community service. And a ninth defendant pleaded guilty to a public order offence and was handed a four-month curfew.
Sentencing the men, Recorder Michael Elsom told them: "One eyewitness described your actions as acting like a pack of animals, which having viewed the CCTV footage is an accurate description and not belittling to animals."
Ally Simcock, Vale supporters' club chairwoman, today insisted hooliganism was not a big problem for the club.
She said: "It is disappointing when violence rears its head, especially when it's my club. However, I think we have the same proportion of fans who look for trouble as any other team.
"It's not an issue for Port Vale particularly, but obviously it is still an issue, as it is for any club. It is a shame, because people remember the bad things rather than the good.
"As a fan base we need to try to move away from the yob culture and remember matches are meant to be an occasion for the whole family. Maybe we can all learn lessons from this and use it to make positive changes in the future."
Six Barnsley supporters were also convicted in connection with this incident at a hearing on November 24.

Italy : Roma fans risk travel ban for the rest of the season - 22/11/2016
Source : http://www.calciomercato.com/
After some unsavoury scenes following their 2-1 defeat in Bergamo against Atalanta, Roma supporters could face a travel ban for the rest of the Serie A season.
Four stewards and a police agent were injured after flares and smoke bombs were let off outside the stadium on Sunday afternoon and the former head of the Federal Prosecutor, Mario Stagliano told Teleroma56 that; “After the episodes on Sunday and from what I understand, the Observatory will punish Roma fans by forbidding them to attend away matches for the rest of the season”.
Atalanta refused to sell tickets to any fans from the Lazio region ahead of Sunday’s game but with fan groups all over Italy, a significant number of giallorossi fans made the trip to Bergamo. This latest news, if it happens, will be another huge blow to the club from the capital who are already playing in front of a half empty Stadio Olimpico as the Ultras in the Curva Sud continue their protest at what they see as unjustified security measures in their section of the stadium.
