France : Tensions mount as Ligue 1 Bastia refuse kick-off time change - 16/02/2016
Source : http://tenplay.com.au/
French club Bastia have "categorically refused" an order by the French Professional League (LFP) to advance the kick-off time of their Ligue 1 game against Nantes next Saturday amid security fears in Corsica.
"Having at no time been consulted on the reasons which motivated this unilateral decision and finding such practices unacceptable, the club has just informed the LFP of its categorical refusal to confirm with this diktat," Bastia said in a statement.
"The doors of the stadium will therefore remain close at the time imposed by authorities," it added.
The decision to bring the game forward from 20:00 local time (1900GMT) to 14:00 (1300GMT) was requested by police on the French Mediterranean island after violence sparked by Corsican fans during last Saturday's league game at Reims.
Fans threw fireworks at police before and after the match in the Champagne region with the violence spilling into the town when a 22-year-old Corsican suffered a serious eye injury while being pursued by police.
Seven Bastia supporters on Monday recevied summons for trial on March 22 following the incidents in Reims.
Violence also broke out in Corsica on Sunday night when a rally to support the injured fan outside Bastia's police station degenerated with missiles and Molotov cocktails thrown. A riot police officer received a head wound.
On Monday night in Corte, some 500 people again gathered in front of the police station, throwing various missiles.
As French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve strongly condemned "these unacceptable acts" the case took a political turn with the President of Corsica's executive council Gilles Simeoni, questioning the "official version" of the injury suffered by Bastia supporter.
According to the Reims public prosecutor, the fan was seriously injured while fleeing police after damaging one of their cars, and hurt himself when he fell. The victim claims he was wounded by a rubber bullet, and "that's what a certain number of witnesses are saying", said Simeoni.
The tension comes amid unrest on the island following regional elections in mid-December which saw Corsica's nationalist party winning power for the first time.

Turkish police thwart attack on bus with Russian football fans in Istanbul
Turkish law enforcers thwarted an attack of Fenerbahce FC fans on a bus carrying fans of Russia’s Lokomotiv Moscow FC ahead of the Europa League match between the two clubs in Istanbul on Tuesday night, a TASS correspondent reports from the scene, APA reports quoting TASS.
According to the correspondent, the Turkish fans attacked the bus only several meters from the stadium throwing stones at the vehicle. However, Turkish police reacted promptly clamping down on the assailants and detained at least four Fenerbahce FC fans.
Lokomotiv’s first leg match of UEFA Europa League’s Round of 32 against Fenerbahce FC is taking place on Tuesday night at Sukru Saracoglu stadium in Istanbul. The second leg encounter between both clubs had been scheduled for February 25 in Moscow.

PSG - Chelsea FC - 16/02/2016

Chelsea fans warned of extra security ahead of Champions League clash in Paris
Chelsea fans are being urged to arrive early at the Parc des Princes for Tuesday's Champions League match against Paris St Germain.
Following the terrorist attacks in Paris last November where the France v Germany football match at the Stade de France was targeted, French police will conduct a huge security operation involving several thousand personnel.
The authorities want to learn how to best police large football crowds ahead of Euro 2016 in France this summer.
The police and security services have already employed a number of new tactics at France's two home Six Nations rugby internationals at the Stade de France, but have earmarked Chelsea's visit to Paris as an opportunity to see how football crowds behave.
Fans will encounter three layers of security before they can get to their seats with the police responsible for the first two layers outside the stadium while private security will perform further checks once fans have entered the stadium perimeter. Extra metal and explosive detectors will be used.
Victoriano Melero, deputy chief executive of the French football federation told Sky Sports News HQ that these measures will be used at all Euro 2016 matches later this year.
"The attacks last year changed a lot," Melero said. "But we had a robust security programme in place already. What we are now doing is reinforcing it.
"All the partners are working together, the public forces, the police and private forces. We will have three layers of security outside stadiums."
Euro 2016 will use 10 venues for the championships this summer. Tens of thousands of football supporters from the British Isles are expected to travel to France as England, Wales and Northern Ireland have all qualified as well as the Republic of Ireland.
Ziad Khoury, head of security for Euro 2016 is confident the tournament will be safe: "For the first time at a Euros a memorandum of understanding has been agreed between the Interior Ministry and Euro 2016 organisers, we are working well together," he said.
"I work for the Ministry, but am now here with the Euros, we are working very hard and I believe I can ensure the safety of supporters."
Chelsea fans pepper-sprayed Inside Parc des Princes
French police used pepper spray on Chelsea supporters for a second year running as tensions escalated during their Champions League last-16 tie in Paris on Tuesday night.
Officers from France's anti-riot CRS unit used the spray in a bid to calm fans in the away end at the Parc des Princes in Chelsea's 2-1 defeat.
And while last year's scenes from outside the stadium were not repeated on a wide scale, there was still confrontation between fans and police inside the ground.

Fresh clashes erupted on Tuesday when around 50 masked individuals interrupted peaceful demonstrations by throwing Molotov cocktails at police forces, who in turn responded with tear gas to quell the trouble.
As French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve strongly condemned "these unacceptable acts" the case took a political turn with the President of Corsica's executive council Gilles Simeoni, questioning the "official version" of the injury suffered by the Bastia supporter.

Bastia v Nantes Ligue 1 match postponed after violent clashes - 17/02/2016
Source : https://www.bbc.com/
Bastia's Ligue 1 home match against Nantes on Saturday has been postponed because of violent clashes between fans and police.
Fans were arrested and one was injured after trouble flared following Bastia's match at Reims on Saturday.
That sparked protests and violence in the Corsican city of Bastia on Sunday, during which a crowd of about 100 people attacked a police station.
The trouble continued on Monday and Tuesday, with further violent protests.
The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) ordered Bastia to bring forward their match on Saturday from 19:00 GMT to 13:00 GMT.
When they refused, the match was postponed until 9 March.
"I cannot tolerate that football be a pretext for violent actions," said LFP president Frederic Thiriez.
