England: Four hundred banned Yorkshire football fans must hand in passports before Ireland friendly - 03/06/2015

Source: http://www.thestar.co.uk/

NEARLY 400 banned football fans from around Yorkshire and the Humber will be forced to report to a local police station when England play the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Sunday.

A total of 385 people in the region have been handed football banning orders as part of efforts to stop potential troublemakers travelling to football matches at home and abroad.

Ahead of this weekend’s England friendly, they have been told to hand in their passports by the end of today. If they fail to do so they face arrest, unless they have been given an exemption.

The banned fans, who had orders imposed on them after previously being involved in disorder, also have to report to a police station on match-day between 10am and kick-off at 1pm.

For England’s European Championship qualifying match against Slovenia in Ljubljana on June 14, banned individuals have to report to their chosen police station and hand over their passports on either June 9 or 10, but do not have to attend on match-day.

In West Yorkshire, 59 Leeds United supporters and 39 Bradford City fans are subject to football banning orders, along with 39 from Huddersfield Town and 11 from Halifax Town.

Football Intelligence Officer PC Paul Barclay said: “Football Banning Orders are a vital tool in reducing crime and disorder around fixtures by allowing us prevent those previously involved in causing disorder from attending matches.”

South Yorkshire Police say 15 Barnsley fans are subject to football banning orders, Sheffield Wednesday 33, Sheffield United 31, Doncaster Rovers 21 and Rotherham United 18.

Humberside Police told The Yorkshire Post that 29 Hull City fans have been handed the orders, 34 Scunthorpe United supporters and Grimsby Town fans 40.

In North Yorkshire, a total of 16 people are subject to banning orders. Seven are York City supporters, five Leeds United fans, while the remaining four support Huddersfield Town, Manchester United, Middlesbrough and Stoke City.

Detective Constable Kevan Howe, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “All 16 individuals who are subject to Football Banning Orders in the North Yorkshire Police area have been notified in writing about these extra measures for the games against the Republic of Ireland and Slovenia.

“They are known to pose a serious risk of causing trouble at England football matches, particularly at fixtures played overseas.

“Working alongside the United Kingdom Football Policing Unit, we will do everything in our power to enforce Football Banning Orders including arresting people if necessary.”

Banning orders are issued by the courts following a conviction for a football-related offence, or after a complaint by the Crown Prosecution Service or a local police force.

For an order to be issued, it must be proved that the accused person has caused or contributed to football-related violence or disorder and that an order will prevent them from misbehaving further.

Orders can last between three and 10 years and can be customised to address individual behaviour patterns. Breach of an order is a criminal offence and is punishable by a maximum sentence of six months in prison.

Over 1,800 banned English fans must attend police stations ahead of Ireland friendly

The two nations meet in the city on June 7, the first time they have done so since rioting England supporters forced the abandonment of a friendly in February 1995.

Acquaintances were renewed in May 2013 when Ireland travelled to Wembley for a 1-1 friendly draw, a game which passed without incident.

However, after witnessing a deterioration in behaviour among travelling supporters at England's last four away games, police are to enforce football banning orders for the game at the Aviva Stadium.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts, the National Police Chiefs' Council Lead on football policing, said: "It has been a point of pride in recent years that England fans' behaviour has completely moved on from the dark days of the 1980s.

"We have been able to tell overseas police colleagues that they will not encounter the sort of problems that used to be associated with England fans.

"While the majority of fans continue to behave themselves, in the last four England away fixtures, we have seen a significant amount of drunken anti-social behaviour, unpleasant chanting aimed at provoking home supporters, and a small number of people who seem to take every opportunity to create distress for others.

"Regrettably, that means we have to increase our enforcement activity using tactics that proved successful in addressing these problems in the past."

Fans subject to banning orders are already have to surrender their passports and for the first time in four years, will also be required to attend nominated police stations and confirm attendance with a signature.

Those who fail to comply will be rounded up by police in a national operation.

ACC Roberts said: "Given the deterioration in fan behaviour and the proximity of Dublin, I have reintroduced the requirement to sign on at a police station as well as to surrender passports.

"We will be running a national operation to round up those who fail to comply before and immediately after the fixture.

"To make triply sure of compliance, these measures will be supplemented with all official England Supporters Travelling Club members being required to collect their tickets in person in Dublin with photo ID.

"I am in regular contact with the FA and other partners in the football community and, while there is no specific intelligence as yet to suggest planned disorder, there is sufficient concern to take proactive action to ensure that fans are clear that bad behaviour is not acceptable and will face serious sanctions.

"Football policing 'spotters' from England will also be present in Dublin and the Aviva Stadium to gather evidence of any bad behaviour and ensure anyone who offends faces the consequences of their actions. We are working closely with An Garda Siochana to support their operation."

Racism in Russia laid bare: more than 100 incidents in just two seasons - 04/06/2015

Source: http://www.theguardian.com/

The Russian Football Union insists it is making great strides in eradicating racism but a recent report reveals just how widespread the problem is in a country that is hosting the World Cup in three years time

“Russians forward! F**k the Caucasus,” Lokomotiv fans began to chant at a qualifying match on 23 August 2012 between the Dutch club AZ Alkmaar and Anzhi Makhachkala, a team from Russia’s mostly Muslim Caucasus region that were renting the Lokomotiv stadium in Moscow.

Police detained some 80 fans and Anzhi went on to win the game. But after their victory groups of hooligans attacked Anzhi fans in the metro station Chistye Prudy, splattering the platform in blood. A Russian nationalist organisation later said on social media that 70 Lokomotiv fans had taken part in the assault using traumatic pistols (handguns that fire rubber bullets).

As Russia gears up to host the 2018 World Cup, concerns have been raised about the spiralling costs for the tournament and alleged corruption during the Fifa bidding process. Last week Alexander Khinshtein, of the ruling United Russia Party, announced legislative amendments that would allow inmates to perform forced labour outside their prison colonies, a move he said could help save money on World Cup construction.

But racist incidents like those at the Anzhi-AZ match, which came a day after a group of 50 young people attacked Anzhi fans in St Petersburg on their way to watch a game, have added worries about the reception non-white players and even supporters could receive in Russia.

A recent report by the Fare network and the Moscow-based Sova Centre for information and analysis has documented 99 racist and far-right displays and 21 racially motivated attacks by Russian football fans during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.

England: Stoke City fan banned for four years after biting police officer - 05/06/2015

Source: http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/

A STOKE City fan has been banned from attending any football game in the country for four years — after biting a police officer.

Michael Murray, of Langley Road, Longton, was made subject to the banning order after visiting Swansea with friends to watch the Potters take on the Swans at the Liberty Stadium in May, which the home side won 2-0.

He was arrested after stewards attempted to eject a number of fans from the ground during the game.

But the confrontation escalated outside the ground, when punches were thrown and Murray bit the police officer on his arm.

The 23-year-old appeared before Swansea Magistrates' Court where he faced charges of common assault, against a steward, a public order offence, and assaulting an officer in the execution of his duty.

He was given a 12-week sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work, and pay £165 costs and £100 compensation to both the officer and steward.

England: Six more fans arrested over Millwall trouble - 04/06/2015

Source: http://www.rotherhamadvertiser.co.uk/

POLICE have interviewed six more people as part of the ongoing investigation into disorder following the Rotherham United and Millwall FC match last season.

A 48-year-old man from Blackpool was interviewed on Monday and five people from London, a man aged 30, two men aged 24 and two 17-year-old boys, were interviewed yesterday.

Trouble erupted when Rotherham United hosted Millwall FC at the New York Stadium on February 28 and scored the winner with five minutes left.

Several stewards were attacked, leading to extra officers being deployed to restore order.

As fans left the ground, there was further disorder.

A number of stewards and police officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Six other people remain on bail in connection with the disorder. Officers are still trying to identify nine men they would like to speak to and have reissued CCTV images.

Poland: Poznań football party turns nasty - 07/06/2015

Source: http://www.thenews.pl/

Thousands of people took to the streets of Poznań to celebrate Lech Poznań winning the title of Polish champions, however the party soon turned sour with hooligans turning violent

Lech Poznań managed the draw they needed to clinch the Polish title on Sunday, wrapping up the last day of the season with a 0-0 result against Wisła Kraków. Football fans celebrated with flags and fireworks in the centre of the city in west-central Poland. But the positive atmosphere soon changed when hooligans took over the spontaneous party. These drunkenly hurled glass bottles at the crowd and destroyed property. The police was forced to use pepper spray on the rowdy crowds on the Stary Rynek (old market square) in the city. According to information by the police, as many as 300 hooligans wanted to enter a squat house on Paderewski street and set it on fire. The police managed to close access to the street and stop this from happening. Among the damages was a transmission van owned by national broadcaster TVP. The operator of the van, Bartłomiej Wojtczak told TVP Info that he requested police assistance, but this never materialised. Hooligans managed to break some of the glass on the van and damaged the broadcasting system on the van including the antenna. Wojtczak said that this could cost up to PLN 300,000. A spokesperson for the police said that a thorough investigation will be launched and the perpetrators brought to justice.

Blackpool FC: Police seek to identify fans after pitch invasion - 12/06/2015

Source: http://www.bbc.com/

Police investigating a pitch invasion during Blackpool's last home game of the season have released images of two men they would like to speak to.

The invasion followed a march by about 2,000 fans before the match on 2 May in protest against the club's owners.

About 150 fans gathered on the pitch at Bloomfield Road just after half-time. The game was called off an hour later.

Police are keen to trace "a small minority" of fans they believe were involved in public order offences.

After examining CCTV footage, detectives have spoken to those who witnessed what happened on the pitch and a number of individuals have already been identified.

They will be spoken to in the coming weeks, but police also want to trace two more men.

Det Insp Jason Richardson said: "Whilst the majority of supporters present at the match behaved in a responsible and peaceful manner, a small minority of supporters overstepped the mark and their conduct is deemed to be unacceptable."

He added police would "look to ensure they are brought to account for their actions".

Croatia - Italy - 12/06/2015

Source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/

Outrage at swastika marked on pitch for Croatia v Italy

Croatia are facing severe punishment from Uefa after a swastika was marked out on the pitch for the drawn Euro 2016 qualifier against Italy in Split.

The game at Poljud Stadium was played behind closed doors after Croatia were punished for racist chanting during their match with Norway in March, and the symbol could be clearly seen during the Group H encounter, which ended 1-1.

Croatia's fans further disgraced their country's repuation last November when sporadic incidents of violence and the throwing of rocket flares by fans temporarily the reverse fixture with Italy in Milan.

On Friday, a swastika was clearly visible on the pitch at the Poljud Stadium, the home of Hajduk Split.

Croatian football federation president Davor Suker, the former West Ham and Arsenal striker, said: "I'm very angry and disappointed."

Ground staff attempted to cover the symbol up during the half-time interval but were unable to do so and the Croatian federation expressed its regret over the incident, claiming the symbol had been emblazoned on the pitch up to 48 hours before match took place.

"We apologise to all viewers, our guests from Italy and the players from both teams, for the Nazi symbol on the Poljud Stadium grass," press officer Tomislav Pacak said.

"Technically speaking, a chemical agent was used on the field 24 to 48 hours before the kick-off, timed to be visible during the qualifying match.

"During the half-time, we have tried to remedy the situation to the best of our abilities, given the short amount of time."

Pacak said Uefa had been notified about the incident and called on the police to bring those responsible to justice.

He added: "This was an obvious act of sabotage and a criminal act. We condemn it and ask the police and judicial bodies to find the person(s) responsible for what is a shame not only for Croatian football, but the entire country.

"Once again, we express regret and condemn this act, and we apologise to all the viewers, guests and players from both teams."

Spain : 15 arrested in Atletico-Deportivo fan clash - 17/06/2015

Source: http://www.business-standard.com/

Spanish police arrested 15 people on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in a brawl between football fans of Deportivo de La Coruna and Atletico Madrid November 30, 2014 near the Vicente Calderon Stadium here, which resulted in the death of one fan.

Investigative officials said the 15 arrests took place on Wednesday morning, 12 of which occurred in Madrid, two in Toledo and one in Valencia, reports Efe.

Two of the detainees stand accused of murder, according to the same officials, who stressed that the third of four investigation phases is still going on.

Hours before the start of the Atletico-Deportivo La Liga match, a 200-person brawl broke out, which lead to the death of Deportivo fan Francisco Javier Romero, also known as Jimmy. He suffered a heart attack after being pulled out from the Manzanares River, in to which he fell or was thrown during the clashes, while 11 other people were injured.

The match went on as scheduled and Atletico won 2-0 despite the events outside the stadium.

Following the incident, police arrested 82 people in two phases; four were held on charges of being involved in Jimmy's murder, however the competent judge in Madrid ordered their release last May for lack of evidence.

Two men arrested after row between Irish and English football fans

Two men were arrested after a row between Irish and English football fans on Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened at Essex Gate in Temple Bar at around 4:20pm, after the 0-0 draw earlier in the day at the Aviva Stadium.

It's believed there was six Irish and six English fans involved in the row.

No English supporters were arrested after the incident.

Two Irishmen were arrested by gardai.

The row came on a relatively calm weekend in the capital and the game passed without incident.

But this time, and with a much heavier security presence in place, the match passed off peaceably with 3,000 visiting supporters in the Havelock Square end.
