Drogba forced to flee rioting fans after Galatasaray's derby against Besiktas abandoned in 93rd minute
Hundreds of fans halted the Istanbul derby between Galatasaray and Besiktas after storming the pitch at Istanbul's Olympic Stadium on Sunday.
Police used teargas in an attempt to restrain fans who rushed on to the field after Galatasaray midfielder Felipe Melo was shown a red card, CNN Turk said.
Galatasaray were leading 2-1 in the third minute of added time when the match was halted, sending the players sprinting for the safety of the dressing rooms.
The match was the first Istanbul derby of the season and follows months of civil unrest in Turkey's largest city over government plans to demolish a city park at the central square of Taksim.
Besiktas' politicised fan base, dubbed 'Carsi', was a prominent force in the anti-government protests and often clashed with police during the peak of the unrest in June.

Turkey: clashes after Galatasaray-Besiktas game, 68 arrested
(ANSAmed) - ANKARA, SEPTEMBER 23 - Tear gas and violent clashes between police and football fans marred Istanbul's derby between home teams Galatasaray and Besiktas at the Ataturk Olympic stadium on Sunday night. Police arrested 68 football fans, including 12 minors, Hurriyet online reported Monday.
Incidents began in the second minute of extra time when a Galatasaray player, Felipe Melo, was expelled just as the team was winning 2-1.
According to Cumhuriyet the accidents were originally caused by Islamic fans of Galatasaray, known as the '1453' group (after the year Muslim Ottoman sultans took over Christian Constantinople), who chanted 'Allah is great' and attacked Besiktas' 'Carsi' fans, considered a left-wing association against Islamic Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Carsi group backed major anti-government protests in June.
Police cracked down on fans and clashes continued well into the night.(ANSAmed).

Empty Stands: Polish clubs bow down to hooligans - 22/09/2013
Source : http://baltic-review.com/
The Union of European Football Associations Uefa has ruled that the Polish club Legia Warschau must play its next match in the Europa League on October 3 against the Cypriot club Apollon Limassol to empty stands
In previous games the Polish fans fired signal rockets and waved banners that insulted the opposing teams. But hooliganism won’t disappear as a result of the ban, the conservative daily Rzeczpospolita fears:
"The Polish state and the clubs that let the hooligans run wild have faced this problem for a long time now. The hooligans in Posen know that best, because the club Lech has already buckled under to them. Soon they’ll score similar successes with Legia, whose chairman grew up in the hooligan milieu and fraternised with the offenders. The clubs complain that they have to bear the costs. And I can understand the pain felt by their chairmen. But a stadium is not a legal vacuum.

Colombian stabbed to death in football fan fight
A young Colombian man was stabbed to death in a fight between fans of rival football teams, police said Tuesday.
Another death is being probed to determine if it stems from football violence, the police added.
The mayor of Bogota warned of declaring the city's El Campin stadium off limits to teams whose fans have been involved in fights.
In the latest incident, Carlos Medellin, 20, was killed Monday night outside a bus station in downtown Bogota.
Medellin, a fan of Atletico Nacional, was stabbed in the chest by supporters of a team called Millonarios. Five people were arrested.
The two teams play Tuesday night in El Campin stadium in the latest chapter of a classic Colombian rivalry.
On Friday, a man aged 66 died of a stab wound when he intervened to defend his son in a fight between football fans.
In yet another case, police said they are investigating if the death of a youth Monday night in another part of town stemmed from a fight between fans of Millonarios and Atletico Nacional.
Bogota mayor Gustavo Petro raised the possibility of restricting use of El Campin stadium as a way to punish and deter violent fans.
"If there is no peace in our neighborhoods because of football, there can be no football in the stadium," Petro wrote on Twitter.
He convened a meeting of leaders of football fan clubs.
Police chief Rodolfo Palomino suggested barring fans from visiting teams from wearing shirts with their team colors. He said this would be a protective measure.

UEFA punishes Dinamo Zagreb for fans' racism - 25/09/2013
Source : http://www.miamiherald.com
Dinamo Zagreb must play a Europa League home match in an empty stadium after more racist behavior by its fans.
UEFA says charges were leveled after Champions League qualifiers away to Austria Vienna and home to FC Sheriff.
The closed-door sanction applies when Dinamo hosts PSV Eindhoven on Oct. 24 in a Europa League group match.
UEFA says a second stadium closure was deferred for a five-year probationary period.
Dinamo was fined 70,250 euros ($95,000), after fans also threw fireworks and the team received one red card and four yellows during the second leg in Vienna.
Dinamo had already been sanctioned for racist chanting at an earlier Champions League qualifier against Fola Esch.
The home match against Sheriff was played with one section of the Maksimir Stadium closed to fans.

Turkey : Besiktas hit with four-game fan ban for derby violence - 26/09/2013
Source : http://www.football.co.uk
Besiktas will have to play four home matches behind closed doors after they were punished for the violence which caused last weekend's Istanbul derby against bitter rivals Galatasaray to be abandoned. The Turkish football federation's disciplinary board said that the club would also be fined 70,000 Turkish lira (25,000 euros) for the riot as well as for insufficient security measures. On Sunday, fans invaded the pitch, threw seats at police as their team were slipping to a 2-1 defeat. Fighting began after Galatasaray midfielder Felipe Melo had been red-carded in the second minute of injury time. Fans chanted: "Everywhere is Taksim, everywhere is resistance," referring to a well-known slogan of the Gezi Park protests that rocked Turkey in June. Besiktas's fan club, Carsi Group, was a prominent force in the anti-government protests sparked by a local campaign to save Istanbul's central Gezi Park from demolition, which broadened into nationwide demonstrations against the ruling party, seen as increasingly authoritarian. Turkish police made 20 arrests after the violence.

13 fans arrested in Russia released after 30-hour detention with no food, water - 23/09/2013
Source : http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com
After several incidents involving the fans at the Main Moscow derby on Sunday, a 3-0 win for home team Spartak Moscow over CSKA Moscow, 13 fans were arrested. According to a report from Russia, they were held for 30 hours without food or water.
Gazeta.ru reported on Monday that the 13 detainees included fans of both teams, although the outlet received no comment as to the exact reason for their arrest. They spent the night in jail with no permission to speak to anybody on the outside.
After 30 hours, the fans still were not charged with any crimes, and Gazeta (Газетa) reported that they were not given any food or water for the entirety of their detention. The judge in charge of the case said the arrests were made despite numerous inaccuracies in the reports and multiple violations of protocol.
Still, the fans will have to appear in court for the re-examination of their cases.

Police use ‘rocket-speed escalators’ to control rowdy fans
Swedish police appear to have attempted to prevent crowd trouble from a local football derby in Stockholm with the help of escalators.
As rivals Djurgarden and AIK went head to head on Thursday night, a group of fans hurled abuse at police while at a local train station.
While supporters continued to pile onto the escalators and shout at the authorities as they descended to the lower level, according to 101greatgoal.com, the police decided to speed up matters.
