France : Fans clash with riot police at PSG victory parade
Source : http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com
Some fans clashed with riot police who were seeking to disperse the huge crowd after the players left following a short appearance. There was not even time for a speech from coach Carlo Ancelotti or captain Thiago Silva, who held the trophy aloft with central defensive partner Mamadou Sakho.
the players hardly had time to milk the applause before they were moved on by security officials, as small groups of riot police started to move forward with the mood turning ugly. Small groups of disgruntled fans threw stones and other objects at the police, who fired tear gas canisters in response.
"There were fireworks, flares and a bit of (tear) gas flying about," PSG defender Zoumana Camara said. "But you can understand that a bit because they (the fans) have been waiting for so long."

PSG's title celebrations turn ugly as fans riot
Paris Saint-Germain's title celebrations turned ugly on Monday when PSG fans clashed with riot police in the centre of the French capital. Missiles were thrown at police officers who responded with teargas. There were also reports of nearby shop windows being smashed.
PSG's celebrations after being crowned champions of Ligue 1 had to be cut short on Monday after fans clashed with riot police.
There were ugly scenes at Place Trocadero near the Eiffel Tower where thousands of fans had gathered to greet their victorious team.
The celebrations turned sour when fans, believed to be a group of ultras who were banned from the stadium, turned up and began throwing missiles at riot police and stewards.
"It was the fault of the ultras, we couldn't celebrate because of them," one fan told AFP.
Another, Alexandre, said: "The festival was ruined."
A police source reported: "There were numerous smoke bombs and objects thrown at the players' podium, and a strong surge by the crowd when the players got onto the podium.
"Police officers reinforced security around the podium which resulted in objects being thrown at the security forces."
Officers responded with tear gas but could not gain control forcing PSG's players and club bosses to cut short the celebration ceremony.
There were reports of several injured fans being taken to hospital.
PSG's players were whisked away onto a waiting cruise boat which will take them up the river Seine as they continue their party.

PSG's title celebrations marred by fan violence
The celebration to honor Paris Saint-Germain's first French league title in 19 years was cut short Monday following fights between fans and riot police in which 30 people were injured.
Paris police commissioner Bernard Boucault said three police officers were among the injured from the clashes, a huge embarrassment to a club that has been trying to restore its image following years of fan violence. Police made 21 arrests.
A total of 800 officers were deployed to contain the fans, Boucault said, but it took several hours to bring the situation under control after store and car windows were smashed near the Champs Elysees.
"The conclusion you can draw is that there won't be more any more events like this in a public place for Paris Saint-Germain," Boucault said.
The website of sports daily L'Equipe mirrored the despondent mood, with a headline reading "Quand La Fete Tourne Au Fiasco" (When The Celebration Turns to Fiasco).
"Today should have been a day of celebration for the city of Paris," PSG said in a statement late Monday. "The party was spoiled by a few hundred troublemakers who have nothing to do with football."
This was PSG's third league title and first since 1994. The violence comes three years after a PSG fan was killed in fighting outside Parc des Princes stadium — the second hooligan-related death at the club since 2006.
PSG had serious problems with hooliganism from 1985 to 2010. The club then took measures to combat the problem and radically changed its ticketing policy.

Italiy : Roma fined €50,000 over racial abuse aimed at Milan players - 13/05/2013
Source : http://www.guardian.co.uk
Roma have been fined €50,000 (£42,200) by the Lega Calcio after a section of supporters racially abused three Milan players during Sunday night's Serie A game at San Siro.
The match, which finished goalless, was suspended for two minutes shortly after half-time by the referee Gianluca Rocchi, allowing the stadium announcer to order offenders to desist before play was allowed to resume.
Although the Lega did not specify which three players it believed had been targeted by Roma fans, the striker Mario Balotelli was seen raising his finger to his lips in a bid to silence visiting fans. The Roma captain, Francesco Totti, then approached the away end at San Siro during the suspension to reason with offending Giallorossi supporters.
A statement published on legaserie.it said: "A fine of €50,000 with a warning for Roma, whose supporters continuously addressed racially discriminatory chants to three players of the opposing team, prompting the referee to suspend the game for two minutes in order to make them desist from such reprehensible behaviour."
The warning attached to Roma's financial punishment could lead to the club playing future league matches behind closed doors should the events of Sunday night be repeated.

Rain of Criticism for Riots in French Capital - 14/05/2013
Source : http://www.plenglish.com
The critical tone goes up today in France by the violent disturbances generated during the celebration of the national football title won by the club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), which left dozens injured and arrested. Numerous vehicles and businesses installed around the Trocadero esplanade, opposite to the Eiffel Tower, were damaged by overflowing fan groups who staged confrontations with police during the night from Monday to Tuesday.
Riots broke the trophy ceremony at the brand new French football champions and also led to the suspension of other celebrations, including a night boat ride of the players along the Seine River to greet the capital's population.
Fabien Vanhemeryck union leader Alliance, second organization among the security forces, acknowledged that the capacity of the police was overwhelmed by the violence of some of the followers of the PSG.
It was underestimated the magnitude of the concentration or said Vanhemeryck, while Claude Goasguen, mayor of the sixteenth district of this city, which took some of the facts, blamed the Interior Ministry for not anticipating the presence of vandals in celebration.
The former presidential candidate of the Socialist Party in 2007 Ségoline Royal criticized the celebration in the central Trocadero esplanade instead of the Parc des Princes stadium, venue of the PSG.
For Royal, the bulk of the responsibility for the violence lies with the organizers of the event.
The disturbances marred the celebration of the third title in the capital club's history and the first since passed into the hands of a consortium of Qatar.

Paris police chief bans celebrations after PSG football fans turn violent - 14/05/2013
Source : http://www.euronews.com
Celebrations for football team Paris Saint-Germain winning the league will not be allowed again says the city’s police chief, after the revelry descended into chaos and violence.
According to Bernard Boucault, 33 people, including three police officers, were injured in the French capital on Monday night.
Some 21 fans have been arrested for “questioning after throwing projectiles or causing damage.”
“It’s very sad and above all it’s a catastrophic image we’re showing today to people abroad. We really don’t need this today. We have so many difficulties and it’s not worth it to have this kind of behaviour which is harmful to the whole country,” said one Paris resident.
It is the first time PSG have won the French Ligue 1 in 19 years. 15,000 supporters gathered near the Eiffel Tower for what should have been a joyous occasion.
“Parisians had been waiting for this victory, but it is obvious that football is still sick. It’s the case for Paris Saint-Germain. It’s also the case for numerous other clubs,” said French Interior Minister Manuel Valls.
“Let me remind you that we regularly forbid supporters at a certain number of stadiums,” Valls added.
The team, including English midfielder David Beckham, were only able to stay in Trocadero plaza for two minutes before the violence erupted. A parade along the River Seine was cancelled.
In total, 800 police officers battled with hardcore fans known as “ultras” for several hours, during which time shops, restaurants and cars near the Champs Elysees had their windows smashed.

Edinburgh Derby: Witness hunt over fans trouble
Police are appealing for witnesses to crowd trouble at the Edinburgh football derby on Sunday.
• Fans in both ends threw flares onto pitch.
• Three charged over alleged pitch invasion.
The Hearts v Hibernian game at Tynecastle ended dramatically with a last-gasp goal from Hibs’ Ross Caldwell putting the score at 2-1.
It gave Hibs their first Scottish Premier League victory over their city rivals for four years.
During the game fans in both the home and away ends of the ground set off flares, throwing them towards the pitch. A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with this.
Three other men, aged 23, 21 and 18, have been charged with alleged breach of the peace following pitch invasions towards the end of the match.
Unacceptable
One of the stadium seats was broken and a 14-year-old boy has been charged with alleged vandalism.
Local police are working with officers from the Football Co-ordination Unit for Scotland (FoCUS) to try to trace anyone who allegedly committed a crime during the derby.
Fans of both teams are being asked to come forward if they have information that can help the inquiry.
Temporary Superintendent Gavin Phillip, the match commander on Sunday, said “Firstly I would like to thank the vast majority of supporters from both Hearts and Hibernian who were a credit to their respective clubs throughout the day.
“Sadly though, a small minority have conducted themselves in an unacceptable manner and committed offences that could have put themselves and others in danger. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and officers from Police Scotland, assisted by officers from FoCUS, are currently conducting a post-match investigation to identify those involved in Sunday’s disturbances.
“Anyone found to be responsible can expect to be robustly dealt with and may find themselves banned from attending further matches in the future.”

Chelsea FC - SL Benfica - Europa League Final played in Amsterdam - 15/04/2013
Chelsea hooligans arrested after violent clashes with rival fans and police in Amsterdam
Three police officers were injured by flying glass and one was taken to hospital for treatment as trouble erupted before the game
Police arrested 24 people last night as violence broke out before Chelsea's Europa League final win in Amsterdam.
Three police officers were injured by flying glass and one was taken to hospital for treatment as trouble erupted before the game.
Riot cops moved in as rival groups of Chelsea and Benfica fans clashed in a city back street.
One Dutch officer suffered a head wound as missiles were thrown.
Eyewitnesses told how beer bottles and glasses flew threw the air in the ugly stand-off in Warmoesstraat which runs off the city's main Dam Square.
An Amsterdam police spokesman said that a total of 10 Chelsea fans were arrested for violent disorder.
Fans and passers-by were 'crushed' into the narrow thoroughfare lined with bars.
One shopkeeper said: "It is not more than ten feet wide and some of the fans were throwing missiles at each other.
"They had been drinking in the run-up to the game, and were singing songs and having a good time when the atmosphere changed and some started pushing.
"It resulted in violence and missiles being thrown."
Another eyewitness said: "You could feel the tension building up for ages before it all went off.
"Chelsea and Benfica fans were exchanging banter at first and it seemed good natured but it got more and more tense until they started throwing missiles at each other.
"More Chelsea fans came in from a side street and charged and it was very scary. One Benfica fan looked as though he had a head wound and a Chelsea fan punched him as he ran forward,
"Police on horseback and riot cops moved in very quickly and I saw plain-clothed officers leading several English fans away. I think the Portuguese misjudged the English - they weren't expecting it to get that nasty."
Of the 24 arrests, 14 were of different nationalities detained for being drunk, disorderly or ticket touting.

French League considers ban on fan travels after clashes - 18/05/2013
Source : http://sports.yahoo.com
The French League (LFP) is considering more bans on fans travelling to games after two people were seriously injured in a scuffle between Olympique Lyon and Olympique Marseille supporters on Saturday.
The French Interior ministry said 16 fans were injured, two of them badly, after some 150 OM fans and about 80 Lyon supporters fought at a motorway rest area in southern France.
"These clashes between fans are intolerable and lead us and the interior ministry to consider more restrictions, even maybe bans, on fan travels," LFP president Frederic Thiriez said in a statement.
The Marseille fans were on their way to St Etienne for a Ligue 1 match while the Lyon supporters were on their way back from Nice after the game was postponed due to heavy rain.
In the two previous seasons, away fans were banned from games between arch rivals Paris St Germain and OM because of the risk of violence between supporters.

Police injured, fans arrested in Hanover
Ugly scenes marred Fortuna Duesseldorf's relegation from the Bundesliga after their 3-0 defeat at Hanover 96 as 10 officers were injured and 19 football fans were arrested, police reported.
Officers were attacked with bottles and flagpoles outside the stadium after Ivory Coast striker Didier Ya Konan's two goals sealed Fortuna's defeat on Saturday.
With Hoffenheim earning a shock 2-1 win at Borussia Dortmund, the defeat meant automatic relegation for Duesseldorf, who had gone into Saturday's final round of games outside of the bottom three.
Ten officers were hurt in the rioting and two were unable to continue their duties due to their injuries, while two of the 19 arrests were for breach of the peace.
The other arrests were for various offences including breach of the Explosives Act after flares were set off by Fortuna fans inside the Hanover stadium during the game.

Sunderland supporters accused of clashing with West Ham fans ahead of their match at the Stadium of Light in January have appeared in court charged with violent disorder.
The 18 defendants, 13 men and five boys, were told by magistrates in Sunderland that the charges were too serious to be dealt with by them.
The violence erupted at around 2.15pm on Saturday, January 12, outside Revolution Bar on Low Row in the city centre.
The 13 adults, who did enter pleas, were ordered to return to Sunderland Magistrates’ Court on July 16, when their cases will formally be handed over to Newcastle Crown Court.
The men are Connor McCoy, 20, of Perth Avenue, Jarrow, Lewis Dodsworth, 18, of Bowburn Avenue, Sunderland, Thomas Kelly, 18, of Eighth Avenue, Chester-le-Street, Sean Herron, 18, of Hogarth Drive, Washington, Kevin Bilton, 51, of Lambton Drive, Hetton-le-Hole, Simon Badham, 20, of Frobisher Street, Hebburn, Shaun Baker, 28, of Gainsborough Square, Sunderland, Paul Collins, 19, of Killingworth Drive, Sunderland, Bradley Dixon, 18, of Patton Road, Sunderland, Daniel Patterson, 18, of Highbury Avenue, Sunderland, Gabriel Shiel, 26, of Windmill Way, Gateshead, Anthony Smith, 26, of Purvis Terrace, Trimdon Colliery, and Christopher Webb, 23, of Launceston Drive, Sunderland.
Jamie Phenny, 21, of Bridge End, Mid Glamorgan, will appear before magistrates on Tuesday, May 21.
Three boys, aged 16, were present, along with two 17-year-olds. A further three 16-year-old boys were excused from attending the hearing in order to sit their GCSE exams.
All are expected to appear before a youth court in June.
The defendants were granted bail on the condition they do not go within a two-mile radius of any UK football stadium on a match day four hours either side of kick-off and not do not enter The Fort pub in Roker.
A number of West Ham supporters who were arrested in connection with the incident are due in court later this month.
