Worries of fan violence and racist chanting surrounding the derby have been high for weeks and police confiscated bags of knives, rocks, clubs and other home-made weapons hidden outside the stadium ahead of the game.
Still, clashes occurred ahead of kickoff.

Roma ultras attack team bus
There is no crowd trouble between fans, but angry Roma ultras are throwing rocks at the team bus after their Coppa Italia defeat.
It seems as if the pact between ultras to avoid clashes held steady, as there have been no incidents of fighting between fans today.
However, the Roma supporters are taking their anger out on the team and around 200 were at the Trigoria training ground tonight.
Fans threw rocks, eggs and other objects that reportedly smashed the windows of the team bus.
There were insulting chants calling the players ‘mercenaries’ and blaming President James Pallotta and directors Franco Baldini and Walter Sabatini for the season’s failure.
Riot police are on the scene if the situation deteriorates further.

Djurgården IF - IFK Göteborg - Swedich Cup Final - 26/05/2013
Swedish football fans stormed the pitch on Sunday night after IFK Gothenburg beat Djurgården in The Swedish Cup Final, in a violent victory march that saw at least one flares hurled into the crowd and that required police intervention.
The final between IFK Gothenboug and Djurgården went to penalties before the Gothenburg side took home the victory at Stockholm's Friends Arena. However, the club's supporters didn't waste any time in storming the pitch and antagonizing the Djurgården fans.
Armed with flares, the supporters took to the field and marched to the other end, where Djurgården supporters hurled chair parts towards the opposition and the police in between.
Only moments after a security guard was hit in the head by what appeared to be a part of a seat, a Gothenburg supporter threw a flare into the opposing side's crowd.
Dozens of riot police stood between the two sets of supporters during the standoff. Police meanwhile grappled with some of the supporters, with three officers sustaining minor injuries.
"The scenes that took place when the pitch was invaded and what happened afterwards are completely unacceptable," Djurgården's head of security told the Dagens Nyheter newspaper.
"I can understand, to a degree, that the winning side wants to celebrate with its heroes when they've taken the title - that's neither surprising nor strange and more of a rule than an exception. But this went way overboard."

Croatia fined for anti-Serbia chants - 29/05/2013
Source : http://msn.foxsports.com
The Croatian Football Association was fined 50,000 Swiss francs ($51,500) for offensive chants by fans at a World Cup qualifying match against Serbia in March, FIFA said Wednesday.
However, Croatia avoided a stadium closure, which football's governing body has ordered for World Cup qualifiers in other discrimination cases this season.
The latest case involving Croatia fans follows criticism from UEFA President Michel Platini last June after a series of incidents at the European Championship, including racial abuse targeted at Italy forward Mario Balotelli.
FIFA acted on eyewitness reports from discrimination monitor Fare at the March 22 match in Zagreb between two former Yugoslavia republics which fought a war in the 1990s.
Fare identified "at least seven different nationalist songs seen in the context of the Balkans as likely to cause hatred and lead to discriminatory acts."
"Croatian supporters in different ends of the stadium repeated in turns the sentence 'In fight for homeland!'" reported Fare, a European network of fan groups.
Visiting fans were barred for security reasons from the match, which Croatia won 2-0.
The Croatian FA can appeal the sanction, which was applied this month as FIFA and UEFA prepare to introduce tougher sanctions for racism and discrimination.
On Friday in Mauritius, FIFA's 209 member countries will consider approving formal measures at their annual meeting.
Croatia, which hosts Scotland at Maksimir Stadium in Zagreb next week, avoided a closed-door order which FIFA imposed on Bulgaria and Hungary at matches in March following racist abuse incidents.
Tense relations between Croatia and Serbia meant it was previously decided that to tickets will be sold to away fans for the countries' return match in Belgrade on Sept. 6.

England : Photo appeal over Bristol City fans' violence in Cardiff - 30/05/2013
Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk
Police investigating violence by Bristol City football fans at a match in Cardiff have issued photos of 16 people they want to question.
There were incidents of disorder and criminal damage outside Cardiff City Stadium and in St Mary Street in the city centre on 16 February.
South Wales Police launched Operation Panther to identify those involved.
The force said the trouble involved "a small minority" of visiting fans at the match with Cardiff City.
Three fans involved in the trouble have already been convicted and given football banning orders.
Football liaison officer Pc Christian Evans said: "This incident did not involve any home fans and the vast majority of away supporters behaved impeccably but unfortunately a small minority were intent on causing trouble.
"We are committed to keeping football a safe environment where people are able to take their families without fear of violence. If anyone recognises someone in the pictures I would urge them to call us."
A Bristol City FC spokesman said: "Incidents such as those which allegedly took place in Cardiff pose a serious threat to our desire to make Bristol City Football Club a place where people can watch a game safely and securely."

Police chief says use of tear gas against football hooligans was wrong
The use of tear gas to quell hooligan unrest following Sunday’s football game between Debrecen and Ferencváros was unprofessional and disproportionate, National Police chief Károly Papp declared on Wednesday.
Controversy over the incident was stirred by news that a nine-year-old girl fell ill, possibly as a result of exposure to tear gas.
National Police said in a statement that visiting supporters of the Ferencváros team threw smoke bombs and flash grenades at police rather than board the specially chartered buses to take them to the Debrecen train station.
Police deployed tear gas for one to three seconds 10 to 12 times as they tried to break passive resistance by hooligans. Police have launched proceedings against one Budapest resident.
