Italiy : Roma stand closed after more racial abuse from fans - 20/05/2013

Source : http://www.voice-online.co.uk

SERIE A club Roma has been ordered to close one of its spectator stands for one game after fans racially abused AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli two weeks ago.

The Rome football club’s Curva Sud consists of many of Roma's fanatical supporters, widely known as the ultras, inside the Stadio Olimpico.

Despite stepping out on to the field ahead of Roma-Napoli wearing anti-racism shirts, a section of the ultras in the Curva Sud were again heard hurling racist abuse at opposition players on May 19.

The Curva Sud will be shut for the first game of next season, following a fine of just over £42,000 by the Italian Football Association for racist abuse aimed at former Manchester City forward Balotelli during a match on May 12.

However, the stand will not be shut during the Coppa Italia Final between Roma and fierce local rivals Lazio on May 26.

France : Fan charged over mass motorway brawl - 21/05/2013

Source : http://www.thelocal.fr

A supporter of French club Marseille has been charged for his part in a violent confrontation between rival football fans at a motorway toll plaza in the south of the France.

Hooligans from Marseille and Lyon fought running battles in front of shocked motorists on Saturday at a toll station near Bollène in the Vaucluse region of France (see video below).

The two sets of fans had met by chance when Lyon supporters, returning home after their game with Nice had been called off, found themselves pulling in to the toll plaza at the same time as a band of Marseille fans were on their way to watch their team play St Etienne.

The fans confronted each other in a mass melee in the pouring rain as a small police presencestruggled to gain control. The violence was captured on an amateur video footage, which has since been replayed across French media sites.

In total 17 supporters were injured, two of whom were left in a serious condition. Both sets of fans have issue statements blaming their rivals for starting the violence.

The 26-year-old man Marseille fan has been charged with violence using a weapon and reoffending.

Both football clubs said they regretted the incidents.

England : Four-year ban for football fan guilty of swearing at police during Shrewsbury Town v Walsall match - 22/05/2013

Source : http://www.shropshirestar.com

A four-year ban from attending football matches has been handed to a man convicted of swearing at a police officer during Shrewsbury Town’s high profile home game against Walsall last year.

Richard Davies, of Belvedere Road, Shrewsbury was ejected from the Greenhous Meadow stadium by police during the League One clash on October 14 last year.

The 47-year-old had denied a public order charge of using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress but was convicted following a trial at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court yesterday.

Today he was given a four-year football banning order and ordered to pay £840 in costs.

Davies was found guilty of swearing at Sergeant Andy Jackson in the presence of other families during the match.

The court was told that Davies had attended the game with his 18-year-old son, and had drunk a couple of pints in the nearby Power League bar before entering the Oteley Road stadium.

Mrs Abigail Hall, prosecuting, told the court that when Shrewsbury Town scored shortly before 4pm a large number of fans left the stands and came down to the pitch side where they began swearing and gesticulating at the Walsall fans.

The court was told that Sgt Jackson and other officers helped the stewards to push back the crowds – which included Davies' son.

Following the incident Davies shouted to Sgt Jackson that ‘he wanted a word with him’.

Giving evidence, Sgt Jackson said Davies had berated him for pushing his son back up into the stand.

He said: “I explained that if he was pushed up by myself or one of the stewards it was because he was in the wrong place. He should have remained seated."

Sgt Jackson said Davies used abusive language.

Following the incident Davies was restrained by officers and ejected from the stadium following a struggle.

He was taken to Monkmoor Police Station where he was later charged.

Representing himself at court yesterday, Davies denied swearing at Sgt Jackson but admitted to getting ‘agitated’ after his son was pushed over.

He accused Sgt Jackson of being ‘heavy handed’ as fans celebrated the goal against Walsall.

“There was no aggravation, we were simply celebrating the fact that Shrewsbury had scored a goal," he said.

“Sgt Jackson pushed my son hard in the back, my son lost his footing and hit his forehead. Obviously I was upset because I didn’t think there was any need for it.”

He said he had reported the incident to the Police Complaints Commission.

Source : http://www.croatiantimes.com + http://www.dalmacijanews.com

Football fans in the Croatian coastal town of Sibenik have expressed their anger following the relegation of the local football club into 3rd division. Amongst other things, a group of fans damaged the coffee shop owned by Stipe Karadjole, the former director of Sibenik FC. The anger spread after the club was relegated from the second division into the third division because of debts. Annoyed fans asked club officials where the money obtained after selling three of the team's top players (Ante Rukavina, Gordon Schildenfeld and Arian Ademi) has gone.

German fans brawl with each other and throw missiles as thousands invade London to see Champions League final at Wembley tonight

The German invasion of London turned nasty today just hours before the Champions League final kicked off as fans fought with each other.
Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are set to go head to head at Wembley tonight with the world watching club football's biggest game.
But a video posted on YouTube earlier appears to show fans from the Bundesliga rivals brawling with each other and throwing missiles.
Police can be seen moving in towards the end of the clip.
Supporters from both clubs had been praised in the build-up to the big game with a party atmosphere in central London at some of the capital's famous landmarks.
But the trouble seems to have started away from the city centre.

Italie : De Rossi urges Roma and Lazio fans to 'leave their knives at home' for Cup final - 25/05/2013

Source : http://www.dailymail.co.uk

Roma midfielder Daniele de Rossi has urged Roma and Lazio ultras to leave their weapons at home when the two sides clash in the Italian Cup final.

The final comes just seven weeks after violent scenes marred the last meeting between the neighbouring clubs, when several people were stabbed in the streets of Rome before the derby.

'I'm confident about the derby,' De Rossi said after delegations from Roma and Lazio met President Giorgio Napolitano at the Quirinale palace.

'It will be a splendid festival. There are lots of people who want to go the stadium in the hope of celebrating (victory for their team) but they'll leave the weapons and knives at home.

'We on the field will have to be the first ones not to go too far. We feel the responsibility not to ignite the fans' emotions.'

Sunday's final takes place at Roma and Lazio's shared ground, the Stadio Olympico, wih around 2,000 police will on the streets to reduce the risk of violence.

England : Football yobs are jailed after brawl at Leeds railway station - 25/05/2013

Source : http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk

Violence erupted at a crowded Leeds Railway Station when there was a chance encounter between Leeds United and Middlesbrough fans.

The Boro supporters were returning from a match in Barnsley on August 18 last year and were changing trains when they walked by the Leeds group.

Christopher Dunn, prosecuting, told Leeds Crown Court yesterday John Greenwood and his two sons Jason and Anthony Youngman had watched the Leeds game against Wolves in a pub.

Mr Greenwood slipped on some steps outside and some children with the Middlesbrough fans laughed at him. He said: “The Leeds fans took offence and when they got to the bottom of the steps a stand-off took place.” CCTV showed some of the Leeds group “clearly offering out the other group”.

Middlesbrough fan Peter Simpson lifted his shirt to show his Boro tattoo before Philip Hardy ran across with a bottle and struck Mr Greenwood on the head before kicking him on the ground.

Jason Youngman then headbutted Hardy and Anthony Youngman threw a glass before squaring up to him “in a boxing style stance” and traded punches.

Mr Greenwood was kicked at least twice on the ground by Shaun Cassidy. Scott Ford was also seen throwing punches.

All six defendants admitted affray.

Anthony Youngman, 22, of Manderville Crescent, Bradford, was jailed for nine months, Jason Youngman, 24, of the same address, was jailed for 30 weeks.

Hardy, 22, of Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough, was jailed for eight months, Simpson, 48, of Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, and Cassidy, 25, of Longlands, Middlesbrough, were each given six-month jail sentences suspended for 12 months with 150 hours unpaid work.

Scott Ford, 22, of Norton, Stockton, was given a 12-month community order.

Kenya: Mathare United - AFC Leopards - 25/05/2013

Source : http://www.nation.co.ke/

Leopards hooligans go on the rampage at City Stadium

Rioting AFC Leopards fans destroyed property around the City Stadium on Sunday following their team’s 1-0 loss to Mathare United in a Tusker Premier League match.

The rowdy fans engaged police in running battles along Jogoo Road as they expressed their anger at the team’s poor performance.

Trouble started when the fans refused to leave the stadium after the final whistle as they shouted at the players for “failing to score a goal against a weak team”.

The police responded with volleys of tear gas canisters as they sought to disperse them. In the ensuing melee, a fire broke out and burnt at least six stalls belonging to mitumba traders. By 8pm, wananchi were still trying to extinguish the fire. Smashed glass could be seen on the road, with the chaos causing a traffic snarl up on both sides of the busy road.

“The tear gas caused this fire. There must have been some oil stored in one of the stalls, and all the clothes stored in the nearby stalls have also caused this. The loss is worth millions of shillings. This is a big blow,” a kiosk operator in the area said.

Leopards vice-chairman, Walter Onyino, condemned the incident. He said: “Several fans were bought free tickets to watch the game. You know it’s campaign time. The club has limited crowd-control measures at this time, I think the Police were fighting blindly as well. Leopards does not in any way condone violence.”

This is the fourth match involving AFC Leopards that experienced crowd violence with the football authorities seemingly powerless to contain.

Thika United maintained their pole position on the league table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over KCB as AFC Leopards suffered a double blow at City Stadium on Saturday.

The club lost 1-0 to Mathare United even as they were taken off the air by league broadcast rights holders SuperSport over their controversial deal with Zuku TV.

Thika United forward Ezekiel Odera secured the all-important strike.

Joseph Kuria’s free-kick midway through the first half gave the soft spoken Odera a perfect opportunity to direct the ball into the back of the net.

The Leopards versus Mathare match was expected to be broadcast live by SuperSport. But the broadcast rights holders pulled the match out of their live programming.

DStv general manager Auka Gacheo said that they will not air any match involving Leopards until issues surrounding the club’s deal with Zuku TV were dealt with.

“As for now we are suspending the airing of Leopards matches because they have contravened the contract we have with KPL. Until we get a clear road map from the club and KPL all their matches will be off air,” Gacheo said.

On the pitch Leopards fell to a last gasp goal from Godian Mumina that undid all the brilliant play by the big cats.

The decisive goal would somewhat be credited to a quick substitution by Mathare coach Stanley Okumbi, who’s decision to bring on Mumina for Meshack Karani moments earlier proved a master stroke, as the midfielder later side footed home the ball.

A visibly frustrated Leopards coach Luc Eymael stormed the pitch after the final whistle and confronted match referee Isaac Ochieng’ to question some of the decision made during the pulsating duel.

Incensed Leopards fans later violently protested outside the stadium over what they termed as “unfair officiating”. Leopards will however blame themselves for losing the match considering the glaring misses by the team’s strike force that consisted of Allan Wanga, Mike Baraza and Noah Wafula.
