Police said this high-risk game was calm. Only three supporers were arrested. One of them, from Benfica, was arrested because he had a detonator, a knife and cannabis. Another one, inside the Listonne tube station because he attacked a policeman and the last one, 30 years old, because he punched a policeman inside the stadium.

FIVE people were arrested on Saturday before and during the big APOEL – Omonoia football match at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia, while other incidents occurred after the end of the derby, police said.
At around 2.15pm a 26-year-old man was arrested after police found two smoke bombs in his possession after he entered the stadium. Later at around 3.30pm, a 29-year-old was arrested after police found him in possession of two rocks.
A 19-year-old man was arrested for throwing a rock at police at around 4.30pm and two minors both aged 16 were also arrested after they used offensive language and physically attacked members of the police. They were all written up by the police for their offences and released to be summoned at a later date.
Police also reported that a bus carrying 18 fans of one team was stopped in Strovolos for lighting firecrackers and throwing cans out of the vehicle. During the police’s search of the bus a plastic bag was found containing five firecrackers and one smoke bomb which were all confiscated. The passengers were taken to Strovolos Police Station where their statements were taken before being written up to be summoned later. At around 5.30pm the police also received a report from a woman that fans riding mopeds threw rocks at her car as she drove down Limassol Avenue in Nicosia, cracking her windshield and breaking the car’s side-mirrors.

Coventry City fan to sue police over Ricoh Arena arrest which sparked brawl - 21/01/2013
Source : http://www.coventrytelegraph.net
A SKY Blues fan is planning to sue the police over his arrest, which he claims caused a mass brawl at the Ricoh Arena last season.
Mark Wynn’s arrest in Singer’s Corner at the Championship clash with Derby County saw up to 70 Coventry City fans intervene. Police officers who were dragging him from the stand were then attacked.
West Midlands Police is now investigating the conduct of officers who were then kicked, punched and spat at as they were forced down to pitchside – along with Mr Wynn.
It comes after Mr Wynn, 45, won his appeal against a conviction for using language likely to cause distress at the crown court in Leamington just over a week ago.
Mr Wynn, 45, served a year of a three-year banning order preventing him going to any football matches or inside a city centre ‘exclusion zone’ on matchdays.
The father-of-two of Egret Walk, Alderman’s Green, was arrested after an argument with an officer not wearing his ID badge at the live televised game last September.
“There wouldn’t have been a riot if the officer had stuck to force policy and Home Office guidelines by having his badge number on display,” Mr Wynn said.
“Then I wouldn’t have picked him up on it, he wouldn’t have nicked me and the fans wouldn’t have tried to stop me getting kicked out.
“That officer shouldn’t have been on duty and his commanding officer should have sent him home to get correctly dressed. That incident was purely the responsibility of West Midlands Police.”
After preparing evidence for a three day trial, Mr Wynn – who claims he suffered a black eye and bruising over his upper body at the game – was told the Crown Prosecution Service had decided not to contest his case after new evidence came to light.
The judge presiding over the case a week last Friday told the CPS Mr Wynn deserved to be told why the case against him had suddenly collapsed.
The CPS only revealed that the case “has been reviewed at a senior level”.
Mr Wynn, who is being backed by the Football Supporters Federation, added: “They didn’t want evidence coming up in court that would show them in a bad light so they just threw in the towel.
“What evidence are they trying to suppress?
“We’re looking at civil action now once all the evidence comes out. Then we’ll see if we can sue West Midlands Police.’’
A spokesman for the force said: “West Midlands Police acknowledges the decision of the court.
“The complaint will now be reviewed by the force’s Professional Standards Department and any matters in relation to misconduct of officers will form part of this investigation.”

Egypt football: Death sentences over Port Said stadium violence - 26/01/2013
Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk
An Egyptian court has sentenced to death 21 defendants over clashes between rival football fans in which 74 people were killed last February.
The riots began after a league game at Port Said stadium between local side al-Masry and Cairo club al-Ahly.
The violence - Egypt's worst football disaster - sparked riots in Cairo during which a further 16 people died.
The court ruling came amid heightened tensions over the second anniversary of the fall of former President Mubarak.
After Saturday's verdict was delivered, relatives of those sentenced to death tried to storm Port Said prison, Egypt's state-run Nile TV reported. It said one person had been killed in the clash.
Last year's football riots led to the suspension of the league.
It began when al-Masry fans invaded the pitch, hurling stones and fireworks at the visitors.
At the time some fans - who said security forces appeared to do little to prevent the clashes - accused supporters of toppled President Hosni Mubarak of instigating the incident.
Seventy-three people, including policemen, were tried.
The judge said he would announce the verdict for the remaining 52 defendants on 9 March.

Is this Britain's oldest football hooligan? Police arrest 74-year-old fan for throwing banana at white referee
. Pensioner arrested during AFC Wimbledon vs Port Vale match . Incident is not thought to have been racially motivated
A pensioner was arrested last night after allegedly throwing a banana at the referee during AFC Wimbledon's 2-2 draw with Port Vale. The 74-year-old Dons fan was interviewed by police before being released on bail. The incident harks back to the days when black footballers regularly had bananas thrown at them, but it is not thought to have been racially motivated.
'We saw the banana thrown on to the pitch and then reviewed television coverage,' football intelligence officer Sam Cunningham told This Is Staffordshire. 'It appears a supporter was angered by a decision by the referee and aimed a banana at him. It was not aimed anywhere near any player.'
'Hopefully the stupid person who threw the item onto the pitch gets a lifetime ban from the Club,' one supporter wrote on an online fan forum. 'We do not want you back.' Another added: 'Not sure what's worse, the fact that some t*** threw something on the pitch or the fact that he wasn't immediately pointed out or given a good kicking by those around him.' Bananas being thrown on to the pitch has long been associated with the racism that blighted football in the 1980s. A famous image shows England legend John Barnes flicking a banana off the pitch after it was thrown at him while playing for Liverpool. Thankfully, racism is now only a rare occurrence in the stands, although the football authorities and police continue to work together to combat any incidents.

Millwall FC - Aston Villa - FA Cup - 25/01/2013

Millwall fans arrested for throwing bottles at linesman
Three people were arrested as Millwall's FA Cup fourth-round win over Aston Villa at the Den was marred by home fans pelting linesman Mark Scholes with bottles. The official was bombarded from fans in the Docker Stand after awarding a foul against the hosts early in the second half.
He took refuge on the pitch while referee Neil Swarbrick tried to sort out the problem. But, when Scholes returned to the touchline more bottles containing drink were thrown at him. He was not hit. Millwall will face action from the FA after the game was held up for five minutes while stewards formed a cordon in front of the fans. Around 20 policemen congregated in that corner of the stadium but only one arrest was for bottle throwing. Millwall manager Kenny Jackett said: 'We can't condone people throwing bottles on to the pitch. That doesn't help us. 'There's a line between supporting your club and creating a passionate atmosphere and we don't want to step over that line.' Millwall striker John Marquis' 89th-minute winner added to Tuesday's Capital One Cup semifinal exit to Bradford in a week to forget for Villa. Unfortunately, Kenny Jackett side's night was marred 10 minutes into the second half as home supporters launched missiles at linesman Mark Scholes, causing the game to be stopped. But that would have been the last thing on Lambert's mind.

Lazio given suspended ban over Tottenham chants - 26/01/2013
Source : http://english.ahram.org.eg
Lazio have been handed a suspended one-game stadium ban by UEFA following anti-semitic chanting by home fans in a Europa League game against Tottenham Hotspur in November, Italian media reported on Friday.
UEFA was not available for comment but Lazio President Claudio Lotito told Italian radio the suspended ban, which will be enforced if a similar incident takes place, was a warning to his club's fans.
"For the fault of a few people, we all must pay the penalty. But now there is no more joking," he said.
Tottenham have a large contingent of Jewish fans. Lazio supporters, well-known for their right-wing views, also unfurled a "Free Palestine" banner at the game.
Ten Spurs fans were injured when they were attacked in a Rome bar the night before the match.
UEFA has been accused of being too soft on racist incidents, with pundits pointing out that Denmark's Nicklas Bendtner was handed a bigger fine for displaying an advertising logo on his underpants at Euro 2012 than national federations have received for instances of racism.

Police arrest three Betar fans for racist jeers
Police arrested three Betar Jerusalem soccer fans for racist jeering made at Saturday's game at the Teddy stadium in Jerusalem, Army Radio reported on Sunday.
The background for the racist flare up was the news that team owner Arkady Gaydamak intends to bring two Muslim Chechen players to the team. Referring to the practice of the team to recruit only Jewish players, the fans held signs that read "Betar is a pure team."
Betar Jerusalem and its fans have a reputation for being intolerant. Team owner Arkady Gaydamak said that there is no conflict between the Jews and the Muslims in Chechnya and warned against painting all of the fans with the same racist brush. "The absolute majority of Betar supporters... are against the anti-Muslim provocation."
Gaydamak said that the racist outbursts made him more determined to bring the two Muslim players to Betar. However, one of the two players has already indicated that he would not come to play for a team whose fans do not respect its players' beliefs.

Referees can act against racism – Michel Platini - 23/01/2013
Source : http://fr.uefa.com
UEFA President Michel Platini has emphasised how referees can act in the case of racist incidents at UEFA games, including ending a match, in line with Executive Committee guidelines.
UEFA President Michel Platini has highlighted the measures that referees are allowed to take in the event of racist incidents at UEFA matches – including the empowerment to stop a game definitively.
Speaking on French radio station RTL, Mr Platini also welcomed AC Milan and Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng's move to leave the field of play as a result of racist conduct by opposing supporters during a friendly match earlier this month. Boateng was followed by his Milan team-mates and the game was abandoned.
"We have put rules in place with the referees in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League," Mr Platini explained. UEFA was the first football body to provide match officials with guidelines on what steps to take in the event of racist abuse during games. In July 2009, the UEFA Executive Committee approved guidelines for match officials to deal with racist incidents in stadiums, which gave referees the power to abandon games in serious cases.
If the referee becomes aware of serious racist behaviour, or is informed of it by the fourth official, he will, as a first step, halt the match and ask for an announcement to be made over the public address system requesting the public immediately stop such racist conduct. As a second step, if the racist behaviour does not cease once the game has restarted, the referee will suspend play for a reasonable period of time, for example five to ten minutes, and request the teams go to the dressing rooms. A further announcement will be made over the public address system to the public.
As a third and final step, if the racist behaviour persists, the referee will definitively abandon the match.
Turning to Kevin-Prince Boateng, Mr Platini said he had positively greeted the player's decision to leave the field. "I appreciated this very much. I also sent a message of congratulations to AC Milan's [vice-president] Mr Galliani. I found [the decision] a good thing to do."
The UEFA President reiterated UEFA's zero-tolerance stance towards racism. "Now we have to root out all of these individuals who come [to matches], and who have nothing to do with football, and who act out of their own interests."

Fifa's Sepp Blatter suggests tougher team sanctions for racist abuse - 23/01/2013
Source : http://www.guardian.co.uk
• Fifa president calls for points deductions or even relegation • New comments mark significant hardening of his stance
Sepp Blatter has called for points deductions and even relegation as sanctions for teams or federations associated with racist offences. The Fifa president has been criticised in the past for comments he has made about discrimination in the game.
Blatter said last month that the Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng was wrong to respond to racist abuse during a friendly against Pro Patria by leaving the field.
However comments on Blatter's official Twitter account on Sunday appear to indicate a hardening of his stance. "Sanctions against discriminatory acts must be very severe. We will discuss this at next Strategic Committee in 3 weeks," one tweet read. "Deduction of points/team relegation. Financial sanctions: not efficient. Matches behind closed doors: not good solution."
Blatter, 76, who has been president of football's world governing body since 1998, sparked controversy in November 2011 when he claimed racism did not exist in football and that if any such issues did arise, they could be solved with a handshake.
Pro Patria were involved in another racism scandal at the weekend when a youth team walked off in protest after one of their players was insulted. The game involving the Pro Patria Berretti team, a youth academy side, was called off when a Casale player, Fabiano Riberio, was abused by one of his opponents.
Riberio reacted angrily and was sent off for slapping the player, a brawl broke out, and Casale walked off in protest.
Blatter said in December that he intended to meet his Uefa counterpart Michel Platini to discuss the sanctions handed out to Serbia's federation following incidents of racist abuse by supporters during a match against England Under-21s in October.
On 13 December, Uefa's control and disciplinary body imposed an €80,000 (£65,000) fine and ordered the Serbia Under-21 side to play one match behind closed doors in relation to the racist abuse but Uefa has appealed against the leniency of those sanctions.
