Fenerbahce to play European match in empty stadium - 26/01/2013
Source : http://nbcsports.msnbc.com
UEFA has ordered Turkish club Fenerbahce to play a Europa League match in an empty stadium after fans threw objects during a game against Borussia Moenchengladbach.
The Istanbul club will play behind closed doors against Bate Borisov on Feb. 21 in a last-32, second-leg match.
UEFA says its disciplinary panel also fined Fenerbahce ?40,000 ($53,500).
UEFA revoked a deferred sanction after similar incidents during a Champions League playoff round match against Spartak Moscow on Aug. 29. Fenerbahce was eliminated then, and joined the second-tier Europa League group stage.
Fenerbahce can appeal the sanctions.

Millwall fans under scrutiny - 26/01/2013
Source : http://au.fourfourtwo.com
The FA are investigating after bottles were thrown at officials during Millwall's 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Friday night.
Assistant referee Mark Scholes was the target from some of the home supporters, who appeared to launch bottles at him after a foul was awarded against Millwall.
Referee Neil Swarbrick temporarily stopped play in response to the actions in the second half, with John Marquis later grabbing a headed winner in the 89th minute, which saw the Premier League side crash out.
Three people have been arrested so far and the Football Association are also set to take matters in their hands, with a spokesman revealing: "We will be looking into it. We are awaiting the referee's report plus details from an FA crowd advisor who was present."
Millwall manager Kenny Jackett has responded to the incident by stating that there is no room for actions of that manner in the stands.
"We can't condone people throwing bottles on to the pitch. That doesn't help us," he told reporters.
"There's a line between supporting your club and creating a passionate atmosphere but we don't want to step over that line."

Wrexham fan's terror as violence erupts at station
A WREXHAM FC fan has told of his terror after trouble erupted between rival factions at Chester Railway Station.
The fan, who does not want to be named, was returning from the Reds’ FA Trophy match at Southport when he was caught up in violent scenes at the station.
He told how frightened commuters had taken refuge in the Costa Coffee shop while the yobs fought with each other in the station building, damaging bins and throwing signs.
About 20 people were involved in the clash, which is thought to have started after rival groups encountered each other in the Town Crier pub opposite the station.
Police are now studying CCTV footage in a bid to track down the troublemakers. Another eyewitness, a Chester FC supporter who also asked for his identity to be protected, said he had been in the Town Crier when the trouble flared. “I usually meet a friend off the train for a drink in the Town Crier and as soon as I walked in you could tell that it wasn’t the usual crowd,” he said.
“Some Wrexham fans came in and started having a drink and then it all kicked off.
“Really, there should have been a strong police presence in the station as they should have realised Wrexham were returning from an away game and would be stopping in Chester.”
Both Cheshire Police and British Transport Police officers were called to the scene at 7.45pm on Saturday after reports of violence, although by the time officers arrived the brawl had broken up and no arrests were made.
British Transport Police spokesman Glyn Hellam said: “We were called to the scene after reports of violence between Chester and Wrexham fans at the station.
“We attended the scene, as did Cheshire Police, but by the time we had arrived the groups had left the scene and no arrests were made. We are now working with police and monitoring CCTV footage of the incident and are looking for people to come forward who may have information on the incident.”
Both football clubs were quick to condemn the actions of fans and expressed their disappointment at the incident.
Wrexham FC secretary Geraint Parry said: “Wrexham is now a community trust run club and we have built up an excellent reputation. We strongly condemn any violence that took place.”
Chester FC chief executive Pat Cluskey said: “If it is the case, it is disappointing to hear of such an altercation. Chester Football Club is a community club and condemns any violence in the name of football.”

Israel : Beitar Jerusalem fined NIS 50,000 over fans' anti-Arab racism - 29/01/2013
Source : http://www.haaretz.com
Despite tension, Beitar Jerusalem game against Umm al-Fahm passes with relative calm, ending in 5-0 victory for the capital's team.
An Israel Football Association disciplinary tribunal fined Beitar Jerusalem NIS 50,000 and ordered the eastern stand of Teddy Stadium closed for the team’s next five games, after fans hurled racist abuse during the team’s game on Saturday against Bnei Yehuda. The fans were protesting the team’s plan to sign two Muslim players from Chechnya.
Despite all the pre-match tension, Tuesday night’s State Cup game between Beitar Jerusalem and Maccabi Umm al-Fahm passed with reasonable calm at Teddy Stadium. Eleven Beitar fans were detained and barred entry following scuffles outside the stadium before the game, and three visiting fans were arrested for flying the Palestinian flag during the match.
Beitar beat Umm al-Fahm, from the second-tier National League, 5-0.
Police escorted the visiting players and fans through the capital to prevent further flare-ups. The game kicked off at 7 P.M. An hour and a half in, one Umm al-Fahm fan was arrested on suspicion of attacking a policeman, and a Beitar Jerusalem fan was arrested on suspicion of drug possession, but the game was relatively peaceful overall.
In an unprecedented move hours before Tuesday’s game, the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court banned 50 Beitar Jerusalem fans attending the match against Umm al-Fahm. The court was complying with the club’s request to ban 50 fans known for racist incitement in the past.
However, despite the agreement reached the day before with Israel Football Association chairman Avi Luzon, the club failed to ask the court to order that the game be played before empty stands in an attempt to prevent a repeat of Saturday’s shocking display.
“The game made headlines thanks to the ugly phenomena we’ve seen recently,” Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino said before Tuesday’s game. “We must all condemn this phenomenon. I call on all fans to show restraint and honor the state and the sport. Hundreds of police officers will be in attendance, and I hope they will have nothing to do. The Jewish nation is the last that should have to be explained why we should fight such an ugly phenomenon.”
Police said they intended to closely guard the Umm al-Fahm team bus and its supporters, and allow the Beitar fans to leave the stadium after the game only once all the visiting fans had left in the company of police officers until they departed the capital. Directors of Maccabi Umm al-Fahm, had threatened not to show up for the game if it was to be played in front of empty stands, saying that busloads of fans from the Arab city would be denied the right to watch their team play because of the behavior of Beitar’s racist fans.

Israel : Court bans 50 Beitar Jerusalem fans from tense cup game against Arab team - 29/01/2013
Source : http://www.haaretz.com
Club asked the court to keep the fans out, noting past racist incidents; hundreds of police officers deployed around stadium in order to keep the peace.
In an unprecedented move, the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court on Tuesday banned 50 Beitar Jerusalem fans from attending the team's State Cup game against Maccabi Umm el-Fahm at the capital's Teddy Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The game kicked off at 7 P.M. local time. One hour and a half into the match, one Umm el-Fahm fan was arrested on suspicion of attacking a policeman, and a Beitar Jerusalem fan was arrested on suspicion of drugs posession, but the game was relatively overall.
The court agreed to the club's request to ban 50 fans known for racist incitement in the past.
Despite the agreement reached on Monday with Israel Football Association chairman Avi Luzon, the club failed to ask the court to order that the game be played before empty stands in an attempt to prevent a repeat of Saturday's fan protests against Beitar's intention to sign to Muslim players from Chechyan club Terek Grozny.
Club officials still await a court decision regarding the punishment it will suffer following the racist catcalls and raising of racist banners during Beitar's Premier League game against Bnei Yehuda on Saturday.
"The game made headlines thanks to the ugly phenomena we've seen recently," said Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino. "We must all condemn this phenomenon. I call on all fans to show restraint and honor the state and the sport. Hundreds of police officers will be in attendance, and I hope they will have nothing to do. The police said it intends to closely guard the Umm al-Fahm team bus and its supporters, and allow the Beitar fans to leave the stadium after the game only once all the visiting fans have left and are accompanied by police officers until they leave the capital.

But the avalanche, common throughout football grounds in South America, went horribly wrong as the supporters rushed forward.

Sheffield police in pursuit of ‘mindless yobs’ - 31/01/2013
Source : http://www.thestar.co.uk
TEN football yobs who went on the rampage at an Owls match are being ‘relentlessly pursued’, say police – after another group of unruly fans were banned from games for a total of 15 years for smashing up trams in Sheffield.
Officers are hunting supporters caught on CCTV running on to the pitch and hurling abuse at rival fans during Sheffield Wednesday’s fixture against Leeds United last October.
The match descended into chaos when Owls goalkeeper Chris Kirkland was hit in the face by 21-year-old thug Aaron Cawley, who was jailed for 16 weeks and barred from football matches for six years.
Eight other men have also been dealt with along with Cawley – five have been reported on summons to court and three received conditional cautions.
Superintendent Shaun Morley, from South Yorkshire Police, said 10 Leeds fans were still being traced, adding: “Football supporters and members of the wider public should feel safe on match days, whether that be on public transport, at the ground or going about their daily business.
“Mindless football disorder is unacceptable and won’t be tolerated.”
Officers also want people to come forward with information about how a sign fell from the Upper West Stand at Hillsborough, injuring Leeds fans below.
Meanwhile, six men have appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court after admitting criminal damage and public order offences, committed on the day Wednesday played Millwall last August. The fans – all Millwall supporters from London – damaged trams before and after the game, smashing windows as they travelled to Hillsborough and back.
Dane Hills, 20, James McCarthy, 24, Daniel Hughes, 52, Ben Hughes, 17 and Charlie Wells, 19, were all given three-year football banning orders, fined £250 and ordered to pay compensation.
The sixth man, Stephen Porter, 34, will be sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court later this month.
“Three years is quite substantial, it sends out a very strong message,” said Supt Morley. We will pursue these individuals, we will identify them and they will be put before the courts if they wish to engage in such behaviour.
“That’s why we want the public to help us stamp out this behaviour and make sure that football matches in South Yorkshire are there for people to enjoy.
“We put all our available resources into relentlessly pursuing anybody who engages in disorder or criminal behaviour. It’s something the public should not have to put up with.”
