Street closed after brawl between 50 rival supporters
POLICE officers closed off parts of Leeds city centre after a street fight broke out between dozens of football fans.
Around 50 people were involved in the brawl outside The Scarborough Taps, on Bishopgate, near Boar Lane, on Saturday afternoon.
The Yorkshire Evening Post understands that around 100 police officers tackled the mob – which is thought to have involved both Leeds United and Nottingham Forest supporters.
One witness said: “There were around 100 police officers surrounding everyone.
“The officers were dispersing the crowds and trying not to arrest any people.”
The Scarborough Taps decided to close its doors to the public and no damage was caused to the building.
Parts of the road that sweep past the public house were closed off at around 5pm for approximately one hour while officers dealt with the crowds.
A police spokeswoman confirmed that there had been an incident with around 50 people involved outside The Scarborough Taps.
She said that police officers had given people orders to leave the area.
The police spokeswoman was unable to confirm whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the incident.
Earlier in the afternoon Leeds United fans saw their team run out 4-1 winners over Nottingham Forest at Elland Road.

PAOK fined and ordered to play match behind closed doors - 04/04/2011
Source : Reuters
PAOK Salonika were on Monday ordered to play their final home match of the season behind closed doors and fined 250,000 euros ($355,600) after crowd trouble in a Greek Cup match last month. Fans invaded the pitch, clashing with riot police, and a goalkeeper was hit by a flare in the 1-0 defeat by AEK Athens in a semi-final second leg match at Salonika's Toumba stadium on March 16. The punishment from the Greek soccer federation's disciplinary committee, which included the largest fine it has handed out this season, means PAOK will face Kerkyra in their last match of the regular season on April 17 without fans. They will then begin their campaign for Greece's second Champions League place via the Super League end-of-season play-offs. Last month's incident was the fifth pitch invasion of a season marred by violence inside and outside Greek stadiums. A players' strike was narrowly averted last month after their PSAP union failed to get the backing of all 16 top-flight clubs -- a move prompted as a reaction to the increase in crowd violence. Top clubs Olympiakos Pireaus and Panathinaikos were handed supporter bans after hundreds of fans invaded the pitch, fighting police and attacking players following champions Olympiakos's 2-1 win over their closest rivals on Feb. 19. Attacks by supporters on the Super League offices and the home of Olympiakos player Vasilis Torosidis followed. Panathinaikos assigned bodyguards to several players as the fall-out continued from what has been dubbed the "derby of shame" by Greek media.

Police hunting 13 men over Chorley football violence - 07/04/2011
Source : This Is Lancashire
POLICE have released images of 13 men they want to speak to after disorder among rival football fans in Chorley.
After the match between Chorley and Chester on February 19, five people were arrested, a 72-year-old man was struck on the head by a brick and a police horse was allegedly headbutted.
The release of the images comes after officers reviewed hours of CCTV footage taken from council cameras and video shot by police and from the force helicopter.
Police said all of men were suspected of serious public order offences.
The game was marred by violent clashes at several locations in the town after the match including Bolton Road and Rangletts park.
The suspects are thought to be both Chorley and Chester fans.
Dozens of police, mounted officers, dogs and the helicopter were deployed to the scene.
A crowd of 3,223, the biggest at Chorley since the 1980s, had gathered for the Evo-Stik league first division game at Victory Park, which the Magpies lost 1-0.
Three men were later charged with public order offences with one of them facing animal cruelty charges for the horse allegation.
More than 1,000 Chester fans were among the crowd.
Supt Richard Robertshaw, said: “Fans from both teams were involved and a significant police operation has been ongoing since the match to find those responsible for the mindless violence.
“The behaviour of a small minority of individuals both during and after the match was appalling.
“Others have already been identified and I anticipate arrests in the next few days.”

Bats used in brawl with football fans
A BRAWL broke out in Manchester Road, Bury, between a group of football fans and men armed with cricket bats.
Police say a number of men, believed to have been to the Bury v Oxford United game at Gigg Lane, began fighting with another group using cricket bats.
A police spokesman said 999 operators received a large number of calls about a disturbance outside the Waterloo pub in Manchester Road at about 5.30pm on Saturday.
However, when officers attended, no-one at the scene reported being injured or wanted to report a crime.
A witness, who asked not to be named in fear of reprisals, said: “I was driving down Manchester Road when I saw a big group of lads fighting. There was one lad being chased by four men carrying cricket bats. I managed to get him into my car and I think they would have hurt him pretty badly had I not. It was pretty shocking stuff.”
The police spokesman added: “In response to the calls, we deployed a tactical aid team to speak to people at the scene. We also stepped up patrols in the vicinity of the pub throughout Saturday evening to reassure the public that their safety is paramount.”

DFB order St Pauli to play behind closed doors - 07/04/2011
Source : AFP
The German Football Federation (DFB) on Thursday ordered St Pauli to play their next Bundesliga home game behind closed doors as punishment for last week's attack on an assistant referee.
Second-from-bottom St Pauli will now host Werder Bremen at their Millerntor Stadium in Hamburg on April 23 in front of empty terraces.
The DFB punishment comes after last Friday's league match at St Pauli was abandoned a minute from time with Schalke leading 2-0 after the assistant referee was struck in the upper back by a cup of beer thrown by a fan.
The referee abandoned the game and the DFB later ruled the result will stand.
St Pauli, who have lost their last six games, have appealed the decision which constitutes a heavy financial penalty in lost ticket sales.
It will be the first time in the Bundesliga's 38-year history that a top-tier match in Germany will be played without fans.

Manchester United fan banned for 10 years after Ibrox clash - 12/04/2011
Source : News.stv.tv
Matthew Bolton broke through a police cordon before Rangers' Champions League game against Manchester United.
A Manchester United fan has been handed one of the longest football banning orders ever issued in Britain by Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Matthew Bolton pled guilty to breach of the peace before the Rangers v Manchester United Champions League match at Ibrox stadium on November 24, 2010.
On Tuesday, he was banned from all UK football matches for 10 years and jailed for nine months.
Bolton, 26, from Rowley Riggs, West Midlands, has a number of previous convictions from English courts for football-related disorder.
Bolton was among a group of Manchester United fans who were causing a disturbance on Copland Road about an hour before kick-off.
He broke through a cordon of police officers and police horses to reach Rangers fans who were passing by at the time.
Area Procurator Fiscal for Glasgow, Lesley Thomson, said: "Disorderly conduct and violence at football matches will not be tolerated. Any conduct of this nature will be robustly investigated and the perpetrators dealt with accordingly.
"If they plead or are found guilty, the Crown will advise the court of its power to impose Football Banning Orders for such offences. As in this case, the guilty party could therefore find him or herself banned from any regulated football match.
"Prosecutors will continue to work with the police to take whatever measures are necessary to protect genuine fans from criminal behaviour while attending football matches."

UEFA to monitor Spurs fans during Champions League clash with Madrid
UEFA will send a high-ranking official to monitor Tottenham’s Champions League match against Real Madrid on Wednesday after Emmanuel Adebayor said English fans racially abused him during the first leg in Madrid.
Jacques Antenen, vice chairman of UEFA's disciplinary panel, has been named as the match delegate for the return leg at White Hart Lane. Antenen is also the police chief in UEFA’s home state of Vaud.
Adebayor asked UEFA to act after Tottenham fans chanted an offensive song at the Bernaneu before the former Arsenal striker scored twice in Real's 4-0 win.

Police hunt four men after violence at Millwall's match with QPR - 12/04/2011
Source : Newsshopper.co.uk
Police have released four images of football fans they want to trace following disorder at Millwall’s match with QPR last month.
After the March 8 match at The Den, disorder broke out between Millwall fans coming out of the rear of the East Stand, known as the Dockers Stand, and the QPR fans who were in the North Car Park.
Despite police presence and the fans being separated by gates, police say the situation deteriorated rapidly when QPR supporters started to initially throw missiles, including coins and plastic bottles, towards Lions fans leaving the stadium.
Plastic sheeting was also ripped from the segregation gates by Rangers fans, police say.
One Millwall fan was arrested at the time but police are now seeking four others - one QPR supporter and three Lions supporters.
Inspector Chris Wood from Lewisham police said: “The behaviour of those fans involved in this disorder was atrocious and could have led to fans and families being seriously injured.
We appeal to the public to assist us in finding these men. If you know who they are please call us.
“These people ruin the experience for genuine fans that just want to come and see their team play, and can ruin the reputation of the football club - they deserve to face the consequences.”

FOUR Millwall FC supporters have been handed indefinite bans by the club after taunting Leeds United fans.
The Lions' 3-2 win over the Whites on Saturday (April 9) was overshadowed by events off the pitch as a number of Millwall fans waved Turkish flags and shirts in reference to the deaths of two Leeds supporters in Istanbul 11 years ago.
Millwall chief executive Andy Ambler said: “As clubs, we have a responsibility for the behaviour of our own fans and take incidents such as this extremely seriously.
“We have already identified a number of people and will continue to work tirelessly, using all possible evidence to identify and prosecute perpetrators.”
In a statement on the club’s website it said: “Millwall Football Club strongly condemns the inflammatory behaviour of certain individuals who waved Turkish flags and shirts during Saturday’s match against Leeds United.
“The Club deplore these totally unacceptable actions, which detracted from what should have been a memorable game for both Millwall and Leeds United supporters.”
Six Leeds United supporters were also arrested at the game.
More than 2,000 Leeds United fans travelled to The Den for Saturday’s match.
United CEO Shaun Harvey said: “We were disturbed by some of the things we witnessed and have been reported us as being directed towards our fans on Saturday.
“As clubs, we have to be responsible for the behaviour or our own fans and are sure that Millwall Football Club will take the relevant action against those that can be identified.”
