Violent Bristol City fans are handed a three-year match ban - 08/03/2011

Source : Thisisbristol.co.uk

TWO Bristol City supporters who threw punches at Leeds United fans have been banned from all matches for three years.

The pair were arrested by police shortly after City's defeat to Leeds United at Ashton Gate last month.

They have also each been ordered to pay £200 in fines and costs.

Both men, from Shirehampton, pleaded guilty at Bristol Magistrates' Court yesterday to using words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence, after swearing and throwing punches at Leeds supporters on Winterstoke Road after the match.

Francis Lloyd, 21, of Penpole Avenue, and Joseph Burns, 19, of Nigel Park, appeared separately in the dock.

Avon and Somerset police football officer Roger Thayer was present for both cases and successfully applied to the court for the three-year banning orders to be imposed on the men.

Afterwards he told the Evening Post: "Regrettably football-related violence has shown an increase in the current season.

"By working in partnership with the clubs, strenuous efforts are being made by all concerned to reduce this."

At present there are 60 football banning orders in place in Bristol out of more than 3,000 across England and Wales. They can be imposed when a person has been convicted of football-related violence and can last for up to 10 years.

Lloyd, who was known to the authorities, ran across Winter- stoke Road and "threw a number of punches towards Leeds fans", prosecutor Gareth Giddings told the court.

Police officers were only about 20 metres away and quickly arrested the 21-year-old to prevent further attacks or reprisals as they escorted the Leeds fans away from the stadium shortly after 5pm.

The scaffolder was fined £100 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85 by presiding magistrate Roger Dunster. Burns was given an identical sentence.

Mr Giddings told the court that Burns, a bricklayer who lives with his dad, was arrested at around the same time after walking towards a group of around 30 Leeds fans "with arms outstretched and clenched fists", swearing and shouting at them.

When he was about five yards away from the group Burns leaned forward and threw a punch, missed and started to square up to the group again before police officers close by arrested him, said Mr Giddings.

Burns apologised to the court and added: "It was really stupid."

Police made seven arrests for public order offences related to the match, which City lost 2-0, but said that figure was "below average" for a game with a crowd of around 18,000 at Ashton Gate and praised the behaviour of the vast majority of fans from both teams.

Burns and Francis are now banned from all organised football matches in the UK and, when City are playing at home, must not go within an agreed area around Ashton Gate which stretches to the top of Park Street and Temple Meads.

They must report to a police station and surrender their passports when club and international matches are played outside the UK, cannot travel inside any town or London borough where City are playing an away game and must not catch a train anywhere on days City are playing away unless they have permission from the British Transport Police.

Spartak fan murder - final suspect arrested - 09/03/2011

Source : Themoscownews.com

The last suspect in the death of football fan Yegor Sviridov in a street brawl has been arrested in Dagestan and is faces an investigation in Moscow.

And the detention of Ramazan Utarbiyev, 21, could lead to a further probe into the possibility of extremism sparking the fatal fight, with the suspect believed to support radical groups.

Utarbiyev was arrested in a friend’s apartment in Makhachkala, and is the sixth and final suspect in the high-profile case to be caught by police.

‘Bomber’ boast

It had been assumed that the brawl in northern Moscow last December was a day-to-day run-in between two rival groups late at night.

But the evidence of a profile posted by Utarbiyev on a social networking site has prompted a rethink.

He listed his placed of residence as “jamia” (an Islamic study group) and included “mujahedeen-bomber” among his interests on a page which he deleted before going on the run.

However, it is unclear how serious these online remarks were intended to be and whether they imply any connection to extremist groups in the volatile region.

Only heads of police departments and anti-extremism services were aware of the coming arrest, an unnamed source in law enforcement bodies told Kommersant, as some of the suspects could have relatives working in police.

No resistance

Utarbiyev showed no resistance when crime detection officers from Moscow and special unit soldiers came arrest him.

And earlier a video appeared on the internet which purported to be Utarbiyev saying he would give himself up if he would get a fair trail.

“Clever people said this was going to be an ordered and demonstrational proceeding, and they were right,” he claimed. “I demand an objective investigation. And if everything is done by law, I will surrender voluntarily.”

He also claimed the fight on Kronschtadsky Bulvar was started by the drunk football fans, and not him and his friends.

Investigators claim the fight was initiated by the group of people from the Caucasus, who deliberately beat up five people.

Utarbiyev has been charged with of disorderly conduct with the use of weapons and battery, and murder charges have been levelled at Aslan Cherkesov, Interfax reported.

Caught and released

Utarbiyev, together with four other suspects, was let out on the day of his first arrest.

And that decision, which many believed was the start of an effort to brush Sviridov’s killing under the carpet, provoked a strong reaction from football fans and nationalist groups.

The day after the death a vigil on Leningradsky Prospekt turned ugly, with protestors blocking the streets and attacking kiosks.

And on Dec. 11 a further rally to demand justice for the dead Spartak fan turned into a riot in the centre of Moscow.

UK : Football thug duo face ban - 09/03/2011

Source : Thisissussex.co.uk

TWO hooligans are facing football bans after they admitted starting a fight at a Crawley Town game.

Matthew Butler, 36, and Jamie Simpson, 21, have been told all sentencing options remain open, including jail, after they were involved in a brawl at Broadfield Stadium during the Reds' game against Newport County on October 16 last year.

Butler, of Balcombe Road, Pound Hill, and Simpson, of Jewel Walk, Bewbush, both pleaded not guilty to using or threatening unlawful violence when they appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court on November 17.

But both changed their pleas to guilty on Thursday, just as their trial was due to start.

The pair had been caught fighting on CCTV.

Around 30 supporters were involved in crowd trouble during the first half of the match following Reds striker Richard Brodie's equaliser. The score ended with Crawley Town losing 3-2.

Prosecuting at an earlier hearing, Richard Lynn told the court how the pair had gone into the away end following the equaliser and started throwing punches and kicks.

Crawley police officer Sergeant Darren Taylor said: "Neither the police nor Crawley Town will put up with this type of behaviour from any fans.

"It will not be tolerated and this behaviour was done in front of families and children.

"We will continue to work closely with the club to stamp out this behaviour, while looking for banning orders for the fans who go out to cause trouble."

Butler and Simpson will be sentenced next month.

Scotland : Ayr United - Airdrie United - 05/03/2011

Source : Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser

Airdrie and Ayr United fans face-off in town centre

AIRDRIE shop staff and customers have told of their terror after two sets of rival football fans faced off before last Saturday’s match.
Weekend traffic on Graham Street was brought to a standstill as around 100 fans of Ayr United and Airdrie United clashed in what police believe was a pre-arranged meeting.
Two smoke bombs were also let off in the away end at New Broomfield during the game, with police now set to seek football banning orders against those responsible.
Shoppers and pedestrians were terrified as a swarm of Ayr United fans, who had been drinking in the Broomfield Tavern, walked en masse towards the ground and met a rival mob of Airdrie fans who had just left the Albert Bar.
The two sides squared up and began shouting and swearing in the middle of Graham Street, near The Arc car wash.
Two police officers managed to separate the rival sides until reinforcements arrived 10 minutes later. A squad of a dozen officers then escorted the Ayr fans to the stadium, making a couple of arrests on the way for breach of the peace and police assault.
Maureen Young, who works in the Bon Bon Cakeshop, said: “I saw a gang walking along the street holding beer glasses.
“It was very frightening for us and people out in the street. The shop became very quiet, perhaps because people saw what was going on.”
At nearby John Bennett butchers, a worker said: “There are three female staff here and we were all extremely frightened by what was going on.”
Shop manager John Crossan went out into the street to witness the scene, and said: “My staff were very frightened but I wasn’t.
“We used to see fights here every Saturday when the football was on – but if the police hadn’t arrived there would have been a riot.”
A spokesperson for Airdrie Newsagents told the Advertiser: “I saw a big group of about 40 to 50 people coming past the shop.
“I looked up the road to the car wash where there was a massive group of people in the middle of the road; the traffic had all stopped and there were police cars and officers.
“I was terrified and put the shutters down. I’ve never seen anything like it in the two years I’ve been here.”
Inspector Jim Borland from Airdrie police office told the Advertiser: “We suspect that the meeting between the two sets of fans was pre-arranged.
“Two officers were initially on the scene and kept the two sides apart, before up to 15 officers arrived from other subdivisions.
“There were no injuries but if there had not been quick intervention by the police, it could have escalated into a full-scale rammy.
“Because of the volume of people in Graham Street, the traffic was brought to a standstill.
“We will be making further enquiries and looking at CCTV at the ground to identify the individuals who set off the smoke bombs. Once identified, I will be seeking a football banning order through the courts.”
The driver of a bus carrying Ayr fans has been charged with carrying alcohol on a coach. The drink was confiscated by officers at the stadium.
Police said there were no arrests as a result of the clash, but a couple of fixed-penalty notices were issued for drinking in public and urinating at the ground.

Police still hunting for football fans after FA Cup violence - 10/03/2011

Source : Walesonline.co.uk

Pictures of six men wanted by police following a mass brawl between football fans have been released.

The Metropolitan Police said they want to speak to them as part of an investigation into large-scale disorder at the end of the Chelsea v Cardiff City match in February 2010.

Previous media appeals have resulted in 96 people being charged with offences and 59 convictions, including the jailing of six Cardiff City supporters last month for between six and 16 months.

Detective Superintendent William Lyle, of Hammersmith and Fulham borough, said: “Whilst we have been successful in charging a large number of people in relation to this disorder the investigation to identify others involved continues.

“We are committed to keeping football a safe environment for families and are particularly keen to speak to these six individuals shown. I would urge anyone who recognises someone from these pictures to contact police.”

The fifth round FA Cup match took place at Stamford Bridge at noon on Saturday, February 13.

On the morning of the match more than 100 Chelsea supporters began to gather in the West Brompton area. They moved towards North End Road where they gathered in two groups.

Following the arrival of three coaches of Cardiff supporters several clashes took place in the Fulham Road area between the groups, the most serious leading to smoke bombs being let off.

Police dispersed the group and the crowds made their way into the stadium. Chelsea supporters, who didn’t have tickets for the match, continued to watch the game in pubs in the area.

As the final whistle blew opposing supporters made their way to the Fulham Road close to the junction with Holmead Road.

Tension between the two groups quickly escalated and police formed a line between the supporters in a bid to separate them. A number of Cardiff supporters broke off from the main group and cut down an alleyway onto the Kings Road, where they were met by a group of Chelsea fans.

Over 200 people were involved in serious public disorder in the Kings Road area, missiles including road cones and bricks were thrown. During the incident a number of officers were injured, with one male PC sustaining an injury to his face that required surgery.

Following the disorder, the Metropolitan Police set-up an investigation team called Operation Ternhill to identify and arrest those involved.

Police to warn footballers not to inflame Celtic and Rangers fans - 09/03/2011

Source : Independent.co.uk

A range of new measures designed to end the violence linked to Old Firm matches in Scotland were unveiled yesterday, including the creation of a new football intelligence unit to stamp out sectarian threats to players and managers.

A meeting chaired by the First Minister, Alex Salmond, including ministers, police and representatives of Rangers and Celtic, also floated the idea of matches being rescheduled to limit the potential for trouble with stricter rules on alcohol consumption.

The summit follows last week's ill-tempered Old Firm cup clash in which three players were sent off and seven booked, and the Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, and Rangers' assistant manager, Ally McCoist, angrily confronted each other on the touchline.

Police made 34 arrests at the match and 187 across western Scotland, and recorded 40 reports of domestic violence.

Reading a joint statement, Mr Salmond said: "Football is Scotland's national game and at its best combines pride and passion with a sense of responsibility, respect and discipline. There is absolutely no place in football for those who let the passion become violence, and the pride become bigotry, and we commit to doing all in our power to maintain the good reputation of Scottish football."

Following three hours of discussion in Edinburgh, the parties, which included Celtic's chief executive, Peter Lawwell, and his Rangers counterpart, Martin Bain, agreed an eight-point plan designed to end the sectarian violence which has dogged meetings between the clubs for generations.

In future, police could be sent into the dressing room each season and ahead of big games to remind players, management and coaching staff of their legal responsibilities not to inflame tensions between rival fans. There could also be an expansion in the use of banning orders on troublemakers for football-related violence away from the ground or in a domestic setting.

Mr Salmond said recent threats made against Mr Lennon – he received live ammunition through the post and a hoax parcel bomb – showed it was time to consider the creation of a dedicated football intelligence unit. Officers would also be responsible for policing the internet, which has become a hotbed of sectarian bigotry.

Mr Salmond said alcohol, which is responsible for many of Scotland's social problems, was at the root of much of the trouble. But details of the scope and nature of a future drinks ban remained unclear, with the Glasgow Licensing Board having already raised concerns over its implementation.

AFC Bournemouth - Southampton - 12/03/2011

Source : Bournemouthecho.co.uk

Huge police presence for Cherries' home tie with Saints

THERE was a heavy police presence around Dean Court on match day as League One rivals AFC Bournemouth and Southampton met for the second time this season.

The last time the teams met, at Southampton last October, six people were arrested following the Cherries’ 2-0 defeat. That day was marred by outbreaks of fighting and ugly scenes in the stadium car park and the city centre.

For the return fixture, pubs on the route to the ground had extra door security and designated themselves home or away.

Groups of Southampton fans, who gathered before the game at The Inferno and The Christopher Creeke on Holdenhurst Road, attracted the biggest police presence.

The 70-80 fans from The Inferno were escorted to the ground by around 20 police and several police vans and cars, the fans chanting most of the way.

Around 80-100 Bournemouth fans at The Queens Park had a brief, angry stand-off with police just before the game when they tried to head down Ashley Road in the direction the Southampton fans, but eventually went the other way.

Police dog handlers and officers in riot gear were on hand as fans left Dean Court.

Two large groups of Saints fans left at around 5.10pm, each around 300-400 strong. A few fans on the fringes shouted abuse and taunted Bournemouth supporters, including a young lad in his car with his family.

The sheer number of fans meant the road was blocked or partially blocked several times.

I witnessed saw some taunting and chanting towards Cherries fans in the pavilion, in the Portman Hotel, and on a bus, but no violence.

Overall, it seemed the mood after the match was jubilant rather than aggressive.

Later, a group of Saints fans drinking in the Christopher Creeke were watched by around 30 officers as they sang and abused Bournemouth as a town.

I saw police move away a couple of small groups of drunken Bournemouth fans who got too close to the area and one man was arrested.

At around 6.10pm the police started to move the Saints fans out of the Christopher Creeke and towards the railway station. There were around 60 officers surrounding 30 Saints fans in a box, and another 20 or so police in a line in front moving everyone else out of the way.

The Saints fans were chanting “Scum army”.

Eight arrests after Cherries vs Saints derby

EIGHT arrests were made for public order offences following the south coast derby between AFC Bournemouth and Southampton on Saturday.

There was a heavy police presence around Dean Court on match day as the League One rivals met for the second time this season.

Police said they were alerted to two or three isolated incidents of public disorder along Holdenhurst Road at around 5.30pm.

They closed the road in the interests of public safety and the St Paul’s roundabout was closed briefly so that fans could be dispersed and that Saints fans could be directed to the railway station. The roads were re-opened by 6.20pm.

The eight men arrested for a variety of public order offences were assisting police with their enquiries.

Bayern Munich - Hamburg SV - 13/03/2011

Source : AFP + Ran.de

Bayern fans clash in protest over van Gaal

A police woman was injured after a group of 100 angry Bayern Munich fans clashed with around 300 officers in the wake of their team's 6-0 win over Hamburg, Bavarian police confirmed Sunday.

After coach Louis van Gaal was told last week his contract will be terminated at the end of the season, Bayern fans took matters into their own hands at Munich's Allianz Arena during Saturday's Bundesliga clash.

Supporters shouting "Executive committee out!" and "We want to see the executive committee!" were prevented from rioting by police.

Police spokesman Martin Rieder confirmed trouble started when a group of home fans tried to enter an area of the ground where Hamburg fans were watching.

The female officer was hurt in the fracas when the police intervened.

The club's executive committee, led by chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, will meet with a group of fans on Monday to listen to their concerns, Bayern's press spokesman said Sunday.

The victory over Hamburg broke Bayern's three-game losing streak, which included them losing in the German Cup semi-finals, and their hopes of retaining their league title are all but over as they are 16 points behind leaders Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

***********************************

Source : Mail

the reason for the protest of the fans was that the executive commitee has build stronger controls at the entrances to the stand. only 9000 people are allowed at the stand but there are normally more. so they want to control the ticketholders and each tickets. some ultras haven't a ticket to the section of the stadium. they couldnt get in on saturday. the rest of the ultras and other suppporter clubs show solidarity and leave the stand.
today there was a meeting between fans and executive committee. nothing changed, but there shall be more meetings in future to improve the relationsship between supporters and club.

Very interesting darby in Ljubljana. Olimpija fans had a fight with police before the match because the police did not let all the fans in to the stadium. Because of that a lot of home fans entered the stadium not until second half. Some of the locals went on a regural stand and tryed to attack viole. Some flares and other objects were exchanged but police solved the situation fast. Just before the end of first half Olimpija fans break the fance and security, invaded the pitch and tryed to attract viole to fight on the pitch. Viole did not suceed to come to the pitch so only some objects were exchanged. Some pyro on the pitch and about 15 arests on both sides.

Action after 0:57

RSC Charleroi - Standard Liège - 12/03/3011

Source: http://uk.klikfc.com/article/281721:/charleroi-goalie-rudy-riou-gets-injured-by-firecrackers-thrown-from-standard-liege-fans

Charleroi goalie Rudy Riou gets injured by firecrackers thrown from Standard Liege fans

Belgium football witnessed violent scenes during Standard Liege’s 2-nil away win at Charleroi on Saturday.

Liege, struggling to hold down a European berth in a disappointing season, may have picked up a crucial three points, but their supporters let their team down by a series of violent acts.

According to reports there were clashes between rival supporters ahead of kick-off. The problems then continued during the second half of the match as Standard supporters standing behind the Charleroi goal lobbed a couple of lit firecrackers at keeper Rudy Riou. The firecrackers exploded right next to the number one to send him tumbling to the floor.

On seeing his own supporters misbehave, Liege captain Steven Defour took it upon himself to approach them to call for order. Rudy Riou also appealed for calm for the visiting fans. But it wasn’t just the Liege fans who behaved badly.

Following that stoppage, the Charleroi fans caused a second hold up to proceedings as they hurled hundreds of tennis balls onto the pitch. (The tennis ball protest was originally invented by fans of FC Basel.) And then, in perhaps the most serious incident of the match, tens of Charleroi supporters managed to tear a hole in the metal fence keeping them sectioned from the pitch, as they spilled out onto the grass.

Ugly scenes at FA Youth Cup tie - 13/03/2011

Source : http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/893953/fans-arrested-as-liverpool-united-youth-tie-turns-ugly?cc=5739

An FA Youth Cup tie between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield saw four red cards and several fans arrested amid ugly scenes.

United fans sang songs about Heysel and Hillsborough tragedies of the 1980s that saw the deaths of 135 people. Three fans were arrested and six ejected from the ground.

A United spokesman said: "Singing songs about the Hillsborough and Heysel tragedies is disgraceful. We will deal harshly with anyone brought to our attention."

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge, present during the Hillsborough disaster of 1989, said he was horrified by the behaviour of the fans on Sunday.

"I have never seen anything like that before at a youth game and I never want to see anything like it again," he told the Liverpool Echo. "It was disgusting.

"You get used to banter from United fans when they come to Anfield but to hear those songs about Heysel and Hillsborough was just horrible. The level of abuse was absolutely sickening.

"There was evidently a group who had just come to cause problems and I felt sorry for the families in the Manchester United end who just wanted to watch a game of football."

Two United fans were reported to have been spoken to after setting off flares. UEFA's disciplinary panel is already set to hear a case against travelling supporters said to have lit flares during United's recent Champions League game at Marseille.

The bad feeling in the stands eventually transferred to the pitch, with Conor Coady and Tyler Beckett dismissed for a late coming together of heads that left the Liverpool man bloodied.

Liverpool had taken a two-goal lead thanks to an Adam Morgan brace, but the game changed on a second-half penalty decision, which saw defender Stephen Sama sent off for a professional foul. United youngster Paul Pogba then followed when, after being booked for an unsporting run-up to the penalty, he continued to argue with the referee for a second caution.

Larnel Cole eventually despatched the retaken spot-kick, Ravel Morrison then equalised before adding the winner with a fine late volley.
