Ipswich fan arrested before their defeat to Norwich
A group of 14 Ipswich fans were known to police, were given a ‘direction to leave’ notice at Norwich Train Station in an attempt to prevent any disorder.
However one man breached the order by refusing to leave the area and was arrested by police.
Despite taunting from both sets of supporters, police were able to keep Norwich and Ipswich fans apart as they arrived to Carrow Road.
Ipswich fans were escorted down from Norwich Train Station via Lower Clarence Road, Clarence Road and Carrow Road.
Before the game some Norwich and Ipswich fans attempted to goad each other, but police who were stood in the middle of the two sets of supporters, were able to prevent anything from happening.
Post match, a large group of police officers marched down to the train station with the Ipswich fans. Three police horses were placed by the front doors of the train station to prevent any violence from escalating between Norwich and Ipswich fans who were chanting at each other.
There was delays for travellers with the 4.20pm Norwich to Ipswich train delayed by eight minutes due to disruptive passengers.
The atmosphere started building in pubs along the Riverside and on Prince of Wales Road from around 11am.
Around 2,000 Ipswich fans were expected to make the trip to Norfolk for today’s game, however it was the Canary fans who left Carrow Road smiling.
Stephen Ricketts, 53, of Aylsham Road, Norwich, said: “I’m absolutley ecstatic, it was a cracking performance from our lads and a great atmosphere. We proved today why we are out of their league, and hopefully the way the table looks soon enough we will be ahead of their league in the Premier League next season.
Trish Fulcher, 62, of Great Yarmouth, attended the match with her husband Richard, and grandson Thomas, 11, for his first ever Norwich match.
She said: “I have been supporting Norwich for nearly 50 years and I think it was such a great game to introduce Thomas to his first experience of the Canaries. We never looked like losing.”

England : Tyne-Wear derby yob given a hospital order after violent clashes loses appeal - 02/03/2015
Source : http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/
Darren Marshall, one of 90 people prosecuted after the Tyne-Wear derby in April 2013, has failed in his bid for freedom
A hooligan involved in violent clashes after a Tyne-Wear football derby has failed in a bid for freedom.
Darren Marshall was one of 90 people prosecuted following widespread disorder after the Newcastle United v Sunderland match in Newcastle in April 2013.
He was handed a hospital order, instead of being jailed, in August last year, after a judge at Newcastle Crown Court heard he had learning disabilities and would ‘deteriorate’ in prison.
But, the 31-year-old, of Wilfred Street, Byker, challenged his sentence at London’s Criminal Appeal Court.
His lawyers argued he should instead have been given a suspended sentence and treated in the community.
But his appeal was dismissed by three of the country’s top judges, who said the hospital order was ‘justified’ in Marshall’s case.
Mrs Justice Lang told the court Marshall, who had previous convictions for violence, was captured on CCTV during the violence that broke out following the derby on April 14.
During the clashes between football fans and police, objects - including bins and glass bottles - were thrown at officers and rival fans.
Marshall had not been to the match but joined in with the violence and was seen emptying bottles out of a bin and running away from police who were trying to usher Sunderland fans safely onto trains at Newcastle’s Central Station.
He admitted violent disorder along with a number of others involved - most of whom were jailed for six to nine months.
However, after hearing psychiatric evidence that Marshall would be ‘vulnerable’ in prison because of his learning difficulties, and that his mental health would deteriorate as a result, the crown court judge gave him a hospital order instead.
His lawyers argued that he should have been spared jail and said a hospital order would be ‘Draconian’ because he was likely to end up in a mental health unit for longer than he would have been in prison if he had been given a jail sentence.
But, dismissing his appeal, Mrs Justice Lang said his crime was too serious to let him walk free and his previous refusal to seek treatment meant a hospital order was justified.
Sitting with Lord Justice Pitchford and Mr Justice Cooke, she added: “The judge was entitled to reach the conclusion that a hospital order was the most suitable option for Marshall, in light of his previous offending and his mental state.
“Having reviewed the up-to-date medical evidence, we are satisfied that the conditions for a hospital order continue to be met and it remains the most suitable disposal.”
The court heard the longest Marshall can be held is six months, unless doctors apply for his detention to be extended.

Holland: INVESTIGATION INTO PSV EINDHOVEN BRAWL DETAILED - 03/03/2015
Source : http://www.nltimes.nl/
The police are currently analyzing video footage of the brawl after the match between Ajax and PSV in Eindhoven on Sunday. According to the police, this could take several days and more arrests may be made.
A number of PSV fans outside the stadium mistook some plainclothes police officers and attacked them. The riot police put an end to the confrontation within a few minutes.
According to the police, the media reports of a six year old child who broke a leg during the riot police charge, turned out to be false. A child was slightly injured near the PSV stadium, but this incident was not connected to the brawl in any way. The police investigation also did not find any evidence of a 25 year old woman being injured and taken to the hospital.
To date the police have received 6 complaints from people who may have been injured during the execution of the riot police charges. Police officers have made personal contact with each of these people.
The police officers who were attacked and three officers who were slightly injured during the disturbances have since returned to work.

London's worst football fans revealed: Chelsea and Millwall rated bottom of the league - 04/03/2015
Source : http://www.cityam.com/
London boasts some of the best football clubs in the world but the reputations of these institutions are not limited to what happens on the pitch.
English football fans gained a reputation for violence from the 1970s and was once dubbed the "English Disease". Since the mid-1980s, efforts by clubs and the government have helped cut football hooliganism making football today safer than its ever been.
However, the game remains far from squeaky clean and old memories still linger in the minds of fans and the public at large. Polling company YouGov has released a survey examining how Londoners rate the fans of the capital's top football clubs.
In line with the historical trend and popular stereotype, Londoners were most likely to have a negative impression of Millwall fans. Almost half of those surveyed has a bad impression of Millwall fans compared to just seven per cent who had a positive impression.
The hostility between West Ham and Millwall fans means the Met puts derbies between the two teams in the C category, indicating a greater risk of violence.
Millwall fans are hardly alone in eliciting a bad public image. Chelsea fans trail their Millwall counterparts by just two per cent with 43 per cent having a poor impression of the central London club.
"Chelsea fans have taken the spotlight, after the police launched an inquiry into reports of two incidents of racist behaviour, one on the Paris Métro and one on a train to Manchester", writes YouGov's Will Dahlgreen . Arsenal fans are seen as the most gentile by Londoners followed closely by Fulham.

Leicester City fan banned for three years after he threw smoke grenade on pitch - 04/03/2015
Source : http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk
A Leicester City fan who threw a smoke grenade on to the pitch during an FA Cup match has been given a three year ban.
Daniel Storer, 21, threw the missile onto the pitch after Leicester City clinched a dramatic stoppage time win against Spurs at White Hart Lane on Saturday, January 24.
He was identified by police and stewards in the ground and put before a court in London.
He pleaded guilty to the offence of throwing a missile and was given a three year football banning order.
The order means Storer, of Newbold Verdon, cannot attend any professional football match and will have to surrender his passport when the England national team is playing overseas.
Today, Leicestershire Police’s football specialist warned that the use of various types of smoke bombs and pyrotechnic devices was becoming increasingly common.
Pc Alistair Grimsley said City’s recent league and cup away games at West Ham, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester United had all seen fans using smoke grenades or similar devices.
Officers believe three such devices were activated by City fans during the White Hart Lane match, although Storer was the only fan caught in the act.
Pc Grimsley, said: “There has been an increasing trend in the use of pyrotechnics amongst Leicester City football supporters this season, particularly when travelling away from home.
“Unfortunately some of these devices burn at a very high temperature and can cause panic and respiratory problems, especially among those who suffer from asthma.
“This sentence highlights just how seriously these offences are taken by the courts.”
A spokesman for Leicester City said: “The welfare of supporters is the club’s highest priority and we will continue to work with Leicestershire Police and other relevant authorities to prevent supporter safety being compromised.
“The club has a zero-tolerance approach to the use of flares, smoke bombs and pyrotechnics of any kind and supports the issuing of bans in any incidents of this nature.”
Storer appeared at North London Magistrates’ Court on Monday, February 16.
As well as the domestic and international match bans, he will also have to inform the Football Banning Order Authority of any change of address.
A smoke bomb, thought to be similar to the one thrown by Storer, was let off at the King Power Stadium in 2013.

Italy : Restricted Seating For Napoli V Inter On Sunday - 05/03/2015
Source : http://forzaitalianfootball.com/
There will be restricted seating at the Stadio San Paolo for Napoli fans when the Partenopei play against Inter on Sunday night in Serie A.
The CASMS (Committee for Security at Sporting Events) made the announcement after reported crowd trouble in Napoli’s 1-0 win against Turkish side Trabzonspor in the Europa League last Thursday night.
“Only the supporters in possession of a season ticket will be able to access Curva A, while for the rest of the stadium exclusively the possessors of the SSC Napoli Club Azzurro fan card will be able to acquire tickets,” a CASMS statement said as reported by TuttoMercatoWeb.
The statement goes on to state that these measures had to be made “after the umpteenth serious event which occurred at the San Paolo stadium, culminating with a true and typical aggression to the police after meeting with Trabzonspor”.

Chelsea and Tottenham fans clash outside Wembley
A video has emerged showing fans of Tottenham and Chelsea in a violent clash before the final of the Capital One Cup at Wembley on Sunday.
A ball hadn’t been kicked before someone was punched right outside the stadium as police were forced to intervene.
The situation spiralled out of control when when a middle-aged Chelsea supporter punched a Spurs fan after having a drink hurled in his direction.
The Chelsea fan had been chanting with a friend before he was confronted. The bald man swung first before a bystander punched the so far uninvolved friend in retaliation. This blow saw blood drawn, but police stepped in before the incident got out of control.
The game ended 2-0 to Chelsea as they lifted their first trophy of the season, but this isn’t the first time their behaviour of their supporters has been brought into question in recent weeks after the race row in Paris.

Argentine Government Seeks To Ban Hooligans After Brawl - 05/03/2015
Source : http://www.caughtoffside.com/
The Chief of Staff of the Argentine government has stressed the need ban the hooligans who clashed with police on Monday in the outskirts of Buenos Aires, causing injuries to 14 officers.
The riots occurred when fans from Laferrere, a local team which plays in the third division of Argentine football, tried to access a local derby against Dock Sud without tickets.
“We have to ban those responsible for the atrocities,” said the government official, who is also the current chairman of Primera A side Quilmes.
“There were only police officers injured, no one from Dock Sud got injured, they were protected” he said.
The media in Argentina reported this morning that the police had conducted raids to seize guns from the Laferrere fans.
This is not the first time this kind of violence has occurred between the fans of the two teams after a similar incident occurred in April last year.

Roma Fined By UEFA After Feyenoord Europa League Clash - 05/03/2015
Source : http://forzaitalianfootball.com/
UEFA have fined Roma €10,000 but let off winger Adem Ljajic after a series of incidents during their Europa League match against Feyenoord last month.
Ljajic will not miss any of Europa League action, only receiving a warning from UEFA for provoking fans.
Roma did not escape punishment for delaying the kick-off in Rotterdam.
UEFA will meet on March 19 to determine the extent of discipline, if any, against Feyenoord, whose fans were charged with racist behaviour and throwing objects.
The second leg of this last-32 Europa League match was suspended twice. A fan threw an inflatable banana in the direction of Roma winger Gervinho, and later objects were thrown at the referee.

Cypriot group claims responsibility for two bomb attacks on referees - 05/03/2015
Source : http://www.foxsports.com/
A new group has emerged in Cyprus to claim responsibility for two of five bomb attacks targeting soccer referees in the past year, police said Thursday. Police spokesman Andreas Angelides told The Associated Press that investigators were examining the written proclamation signed by the ''Armed Gate Niners Urban Guerrillas'' to determine its credibility. The name of the group refers to a gate at the capital's GSP Stadium used by fans of a top Nicosia team, but Angelides said the group disavowed any affiliations. The group claimed responsibility for last month's bombing of a car belonging to the wife of a top-ranked referee, as well as a pre-dawn grenade attack against the Referees' Association headquarters last October. No one was injured in any of the five attacks and no one has been arrested, but police say they are investigating. Angelides said the letter makes broad references to corruption within the sport and that the group has no intention to harm anyone. But is unclear why referees have been singled out for attacks. In January, referees boycotted all league and cup games for a week after a midnight bomb attack at the home of a referee's elderly mother. The development comes amid allegations that the sport is riddled with match-fixing by referees, an operation designed to line the pockets of soccer officials and politicians. The allegations by senior referee Marios Panayi outlined in an interview with the AP have shaken up the soccer community and upset referees. The Cyprus Referees' Association again urged Panayi to provide investigators with specific details and said that any association member proven to have been implicated in match-fixing ''has no place in the referee family.''

Feyenoord caused €5.2m damages - 05/03/2015
Source : http://www.football-italia.net/
Feyenoord fans caused damage worth €5.2m to the city of Rome, claims the Minister for the Interior.
The Dutch hooligans ran riot ahead of their Europa League match against Roma last month.
They damaged historic monuments, including the recently renovated Fontana della Barcaccia, smashed local transport vehicles and urinated on ancient Roman walls.
“The police acted with professionalism and balance, as in these situations it’s best to limit the damage,” said Minister for the Interior Angelino Alfano.
“The devastating fury of the fans was also fuelled by their drunken state, despite the ban on sale of alcohol in the city that day.
“We have finalised our evaluation of the damages in various different sectors caused by the Feyenoord fans to be circa €5.2m.”
The Dutch Government has refused to pay for any damages caused, while plans to play an Italy-Holland friendly with money going to the reconstruction were also dashed.
Roma eliminated Feyenoord with a 2-1 victory in Rotterdam, a game that had to be suspended for over 10 minutes because the Dutch supporters threw coins, lighters and a large inflatable banana on to the field.

England : Football fan guilty of punching police officer in face - 05/03/2015
Source : http://www.newhamrecorder.co.uk/
A football fan has been convicted of punching a female police officer in the face as she tried to arrest him.
QPR supporter Jack Hughes, 21, was found guilty of assaulting Pc Katie Vallance following a “scuffle” with West Ham fans after the two teams played each other on October 5.
The police officer had been standing on the corner of Green Street and Tudor Road as part of a post-match patrol when she saw Hughes “walking purposefully” towards a group of West Ham supporters, Stratford Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.
When a scuffle broke out, she pushed her way through to apprehend Hughes, who tried to push her away.
Although she managed to remove him from the crowd, he then punched her in the jaw.
“He was telling me to ‘f*** off’ and saying ‘f*** you’,” she said. “It was a very busy area at the time.
“In that instant I honestly thought that Mr Hughes would go on and assault me further.”
Giving evidence in his defence, Hughes, of Woodfield Road, Maida Vale, said that he had never hit a woman in his life.
He admitted swearing once, claiming he said “Can you release these f***ing handcuffs?” but only “after five times of asking them to loosen it”.
Hughes said that he did not realise Pc Vallance was trying to arrest him and that he thought he was under attack. “They [the West Ham fans] were saying ‘f*** off back to West London’ because my uncle had QPR colours on,” he said.”
Hughes also claimed he was knocked to the ground and when he tried to get up “someone was on my back and I was just trying to shrug them off”.
Deputy District Judge Louise Balmain found Hughes guilty of assaulting a police officer and of using language likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
”I can’t see why the officer would lie about it,” she said. “She’s an experienced officer and she doesn’t know you.”
Hughes will be sentenced in the same court on March 25.

England: Stoke City fan banned for holding flare at Blackburn FA cup match - 05/03/2015
Source : http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/
STOKE City fan Thomas Hope-Pickin has been handed a football banning order – after being caught holding up a lit flare at an FA Cup match.
The 18-year-old waved the smoke grenade in the air for a few seconds in the away end at Blackburn Rovers's Ewood Park ground.
Stewards managed to identify the defendant before the flare was thrown onto the pitch by another Stoke City fan.
Now Hope-Pickin, of Park View Close, Blurton, has been handed the three-year football ban and a £230 fine after admitting having a firework at a sporting event. He was also ordered to pay £108 costs.
Blackburn magistrates heard flares can cause health issues and reduce the view for fans because of the smoke.
Hope-Pickin had gone with friends to last month's FA Cup defeat.
Prosecutor Alex Mann said: "The effects of flares in the crowd can be quite dramatic.
"They can cause health issues for people with breathing difficulties, can cause panic, and obstruct the view of steps which can have serious consequences.
"We know he had the flare in his hand and it was lit.
"The flare was later thrown onto the pitch."
The court heard the whole incident lasted around 15 seconds.
Rebecca Dulson, defending, said: "The defendant was unaware of the flare until another man lit it and handed it to him. He was in possession of it and then it was taken off him and thrown onto the pitch."
Miss Dulson called on the magistrates to avoid imposing the football banning order.
She added: "He has no previous convictions and nothing to suggest there has ever been any concerns about his behaviour. He is not a football hooligan."
Fellow Stoke City fan Adam Sheerman, aged 20, of Blenheim Street, Fenton, pleaded not guilty to throwing a smoke grenade onto the pitch when he appeared in court yesterday.
Three other Potters' fans arrested during the February 14 cup tie were given fixed-penalty notices by Lancashire Police for being drunk and disorderly.

Copa America: Beer, banners and drums all banned in bid to keep 'barra brava' hooligans away - 06/03/2015
Source : http://www.mirror.co.uk/
Chile have announced strict measures to prevent hooliganism at this summer's Copa America - by banning beer, banners and drums.
The South American nation have a history of violence in the areas around football stadiums on matchdays, but extreme measures have been taken to stop any trouble with the 'barra brava' hooligans.
However, there has been a backlash on the plans from supporters, who complain that the competition will miss a spark due to the decision.
Lionel Messi, Neymar and Alexis Sanchez are just some of the names that will be competing in the Copa America - the continent's biggest football event.
Jose Roa, the head of the Chilean government’s ’Safe Stadium Plan’, told Reuters that some elements of that atmosphere can undermine security and as a result, controls are being tightened.
He said: "Our aim is to create a framework so the football community can enjoy a safe party, and exclude from the stadiums those who have set themselves apart from the football community."
Drums are regularly found at South American matches, but they have been banned from the grounds, as it is believed that they could block exits.
For the same reasons, fireworks, flares and banners have all too been denied entry into the grounds.
Banners, meanwhile, are also believed to be able to be used to smuggle weapons or other banned items into the stadiums.
Last month, the ’barra brava’ of Chilean team Colo Colo raised a banner at a match, warning: "Without a fiesta, there is no Cup".
Meanwhile, alcohol will not be sold at football stadiums, as per the existing Chilean stadium law.
Roa added: "That (no alcohol) is the law in Chile... and that law is current and will also be applied to the Copa America."

Rioting before and after VfB Stuttgart`s goalless Bundesliga draw with Hertha Berlin led to 12 officers being injured, Stuttgart police confirmed on Saturday.
With both sides engaged in the relegation battle and hosts Stuttgart bottom of the table, rival fans took their frustrations out on police having shared a point at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on Friday where 500 officers were on duty.
Three officers were hurt in an area near the stadium when fans threw firecrackers and bottles while a police horse was also injured after being hit by a thrown bin.
A police car containing two officers was attacked by an 80-strong gang, which only dispersed after warning shots were fired, throwing stones and using metal bars.
Both officers involved received head wounds and police also report damage was done to 12 cars parked near the stadium amounting to an estimated 7000 euros (US$7,590) while 5000 euros of damage was done to a police car.
Police have opened an investigation into breach of the peace and had expected trouble from Hertha fans, which included elements from Stuttgart`s local rivals Karlsruhe.
But a 150-strong group of Stuttgart fans attempted to clash with a similar size group of Hertha supporters before police intervened using pepper spray and batons which led to the casualties.

England: Nazi salute Villa fan banned from football for three years - 06/03/2015
Source : http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/
An Aston Villa fan who performed a shocking Nazi salute at a German police officer has been hit with a three-year football ban.
Jason Southall had denied a charge of racially aggravated harassment after making the obscene ten-second gesture at the Villa vs Liverpool away game last year.
But the 44-year-old West Midlands Ambulance Service worker was banned from attending any matches after being found guilty at South Sefton Magistrate’s Court.
Southall, of Copperas Road, Walsall, was also ordered to pay £850 for the incident.
He had directed the offensive salute at Christine Leveth, who was wearing her German ‘polizei’ uniform when she attended the match at Anfield on September 13, 2014.
The officer was on attachment to Merseyside Police at the time.
While she did not witness the incident, Liverpool’s head steward Stephen Lawrence earlier said he had been left “shocked and ashamed” after seeing Southall with his head bowed and a “rigid” body.
The court had heard how Southall, who repeatedly denied the offence, was with Villa fans in the concourse beneath the away fans’ enclosure when he made the gesture towards the officer, who walking up steps ahead of him.
Mr Lawrence previously said Southall had told stewards who dragged him out of the crowd for questioning: “How do you know I was making that gesture at the police officer.
“I could have been making that to someone else in the crowd’.”
Richard Lacey, defending, claimed it was a case of mistaken identity and that stewards had pinpointed the wrong man.
Angela Conlan, prosecuting, earlier told the court: “What you will hear is that they [stewards] saw the defendant execute a Nazi-style salute when he was near a female German police officer, who was in a German police uniform.
“Christine Leveth was posted at the location on attachment to Merseyside Police from Germany.
“She was wearing a German police uniform with ‘Polizei’ on the rear. She did not hear or see anything relating to the alleged incident.”
• Aston Villa players famously defied orders to give the Nazi salute in 1938, while they were touring Germany just before the outbreak of the Second World War.
At the time Villa was one of the most famous football clubs in the world and managed by Jimmy Hogan.
Villa’s heroes, concerned by the behaviour of Hitler’s henchmen, decided they would have nothing to do with the diplomatic niceties, even under pressure from diplomats at the Foreign Office.
Instead of performing a Nazi salute to satisfy the German dignitaries, Villa’s heroes responded with a two-fingered gesture.
What was seen as a lack of manners was heavily criticised in the German press after the game, especially as Villa triumphed 3-2 against a select XI.
Villa’s forward Eric Houghton later recalled: “The FA fella in charge of the England team had come to our manager and said ‘We’ve had a chat about it and we think it would be better if your players gave the Nazi salute to be really friendly’.
“We had a meeting about this, and George Cummings and Alec Massie said ‘There’s no way we’re giving the Nazi salute.’ So we didn’t give it in Berlin.
“It did leave a bit of a nasty taste in the mouth for them.
At the next game in Stuttgart both teams gave the Nazi salute. But we went to the centre of the field and gave them the two-finger salute instead.
“They cheered like mad. They thought it was alright. They didn’t know what the two fingers meant.”

Scotland: Football hooligans admit city centre disorder on day of Dundee United v Aberdeen match - 07/03/2015
Source : http://www.thecourier.co.uk/
A football thug who tried to start a fight with police following “serious disorder” between Dundee United and Aberdeen fans dodged jail and a stadium ban.
Cameron Healy was in a group of men who were involved in a brawl in Dundee following the match, which Aberdeen won 2-0.
Police moved in to arrest one of the protagonists and move a crowd back in the city’s Whitehall Crescent, near the city’s main shopping centres.
But instead of complying Healy tried to get officers to fight with him.
And even when he was handcuffed the “volatile” teenager continued to try to “goad” officers.
Depute fiscal Trina Sinclair told Dundee Sheriff Court there had been “serious disorder” across Dundee before and after the match.
She said: “At 6pm a fight broke out between rival supporters resulting in one man being arrested.
“The accused was amongst the group and police witnesses observed him walking towards officers who had arrested the male.
“Police witnesses directed him to move back.
“The rest of the group did so apart from the accused who was volatile and continually refused to move away.
“He was told he would be arrested if he failed to desist.
“He continued to challenge officers to fight and was restrained and arrested.
“He was handcuffed and continued to goad officers in a similar manner, again challenging them to fight.”
Healy, 17, of Emmock Woods Court, Dundee, pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner while on bail.
Jim Laverty, defending, said: “This is a young man with a limited record.”
Sheriff George Way imposed a community payback order with supervision and 110 hours’ unpaid work.
He also placed Healy on a restriction of liberty order, meaning he will wear an electronic tag and be confined to his home from 7pm until 7am daily.
However, he refused a Crown motion to impose a football banning order.
In another case, the crown called for a football banning order for a man who was found in possession of weighted knuckle gloves and was challenging people to fight.
Louis George Harvey, 16, of Fintryside, admitted committing both offences on the day Dundee United played Aberdeen.
He was one of a large group in Union Street on December 13, and was changed with breach of the peace and possessing the weapons.
However his defence solicitor Gary McIlravey said the gloved weapons did not belong to Harvey, and he only accepted picking them up from the ground and putting them in his pocket.
This was disputed by the crown which maintains he was wearing them, according to the police report.
Sheriff Way said: “This type of item has no other purpose. These are offensive weapons in the true sense of the word as they are designed only to hurt people.”
A proof of mitigation hearing was set for March 11, to ascertain how Harvey had come into possession of the weighted knuckle gloves.
He was granted bail and the crown asked that a football banning order be considered in the meantime.

Tadcaster Albion - Highworth Town - FA Vase - 07/03/2015

Punches thrown as violence mars Tadcaster Albion’s FA Vase exit
Tadcaster Albion’s FA Vase quarter-final replay defeat was marred by violence that blew up after the final whistle.
After full-time, supporters invaded the pitch and an ugly confrontation between players, officials and fans from both sides then ensued.
Highworth chairman Rohan Haines was left with a bloody nose in the melee and Worthians goalkeeper Gary Stevens was also injured.
Stevens was caught in violent exchanges with Tadcaster striker Carl Stewart close to the tunnel.
Tadcaster chairman Matt Gore said the on-field brawl began when a Highworth goaded “hard core” members of the home support.
He claimed the same supporter had been throwing coins during the first half and was involved in a half-time spat that left a Taddy supporter on the floor.
Gore said Highworth’s officials had apologised to him for the behaviour of the fan.
On what happened at full time, Gore said: “Two minutes before the end of the game, their officials and fans walked from the Ken Gilbertson stand right round to the corner ready for a pitch invasion.
“That became reality when the final whistle went.
“I understand the celebrations but the same young man that had been throwing coins came running on amongst all our hard core fans, goading them and waving his arms saying ‘come on then’.
“There were so many people flying in, kicks, punches.
“Their chairman is saying he got punched, their goalie is saying he got punched and some of our players are saying they got punched.”
The brawl looked to have been dying down as the players walked off before it erupted again near the tunnel, with players and spectators involved.
Gore said he did not see any players throwing punches but said the club would hold a full inquiry into the aftermath.
He said: “I will look at the video, look at the circumstances and we will deal with it appropriately.
