Žilina and Spartak Cases Opened - 14/12/2010
Source : vadvert.co.uk
UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Body will meet to discuss cases opened against MŠK Žilina and FC Spartak Moskva after their UEFA Champions League match on 8 December.
UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against both MŠK Žilina and FC Spartak Moskva following the clubs’ UEFA Champions League Group F match in Slovakia on 8 December.
The disciplinary case opened against Russian side Spartak is for the improper conduct of supporters. As well as there being a pitch invasion at the Štadión MŠK Žilina, fireworks were set off and thrown and stewards were attacked by supporters.
Žilina, meanwhile, face charges of improper conduct by the team – the home players having received five yellow cards – and of insufficient organisation, related to the pitch invasion by away fans. Each club’s case will be discussed and dealt with by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body at its meeting on Thursday 16 December.

Croatia - Dozen injured in attack upon PAOK fans in Zagreb - 14/12/2010
Source: reuters + sport.blic.rs
Around a dozen supporters of the Greek soccer club PAOK were injured in an attack by local hooligans on the bus driving them to a hotel in the Croatian capital, police said on Tuesday.
"According to our first reports, around a dozen Greek supporters were injured in the attack on their bus. Four of them were taken for treatment in Zagreb hospitals," a Zagreb police spokeswoman said.
She also said that several dozen attackers first threw stones on the bus, breaking the windows, and then threw several torches inside.
"Fortunately, they were extinguished quickly," she said.
The bus was carrying VIP guests from Greece for the game between Dinamo Zagreb and PAOK on Wednesday in their last Europa League group stage match.
Dinamo Zagreb supporters have a history of causing crowd troubles, especially at away games in Europe. The club has been heavily fined by UEFA several times in recent years.
Several people were injured in Zagreb when a large group of Croatian football fans threw stones at and set fire to a bus carrying fans from the Greek club PAOK, Croatian police said Tuesday.
Police said that a group of 30 people, most likely Dinamo Zagreb fans, stoned the bus and set it ablaze with Molotov cocktail.
PAOK and Dinamo Zagreb are set to play in a Europe League match Wednesday.
On Sunday, a bus with Partizan Belgrade basketball players was stoned in Adriatic city of Zadar, and a Partizan coach was injured.

Moscow police arrest 700 to stave off riots - 15/12/2010
Source : AFP
Moscow police arrested more than 700 people Wednesday across the city centre in a bid to prevent ethnic clashes from erupting following the deadly shooting of a football fan, a spokesman said.
"By 6:30 pm (1530 GMT), we had made more than 700 arrests," Moscow city police spokesman Vitkor Biryukov told the Interfax news agency.
He said about 400 of the arrests were made at the Kievsky train station, where police deployed more than 1,000 riot troops in anticipation of a street battle that was reportedly scheduled there for 6:00 pm (1500 GMT).
"We have confiscated several air guns, knives, clubs and and stun guns," Biryukov said.
He added that police patrols had been stepped up throughout the centre of the city.
Rumours of the Kievsky station standoff spread across the Russian Internet following a weekend riot outside the Kremlin involving some 5,000 football fans and elements of the far right.
Gangs of Muslims were reported to have been planning a counter-rally at Kievsky and a major Russian nationalist movement called on its supporters to come armed to the site.

Stuttgart Fans Call For Board To Resign
Stuttgart fans have called for the board to step down after the worst first half of a season in the club's history.
Fans of struggling Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart have held a protest after their team's 5-3 defeat at home to Bayern Munich, calling on the board to resign, according to the Stuttgarter Nachrichten.
Hundreds of fans gathered outside the stadium in the aftermath of the game to signal their disapproval at how the club is being run. There were also jeers from the fans at the final whistle as die Schwaben recorded their worst ever start to a Bundesliga season.
Club president Erwin Staudt attempted to address the gathering with a loudspeaker, however his words fell on deaf ears.
Stuttgart are second bottom in the table with just 12 points from 17 games. The club's new coach Bruno Labbadia is their third of the season after Christian Gross and Jens Keller.

APOEL fans attack Turkish basketball team - 21/12/2010
Source : USA TODAY
Cyprus police say fans of local Greek Cypriot team APOEL attacked Turkish team Pinar Karsiyaka after a game in the Cypriot capital. Police spokesman Michalis Katsounotos said on Wednesday that no team members were injured.
Katsounotos said APOEL fans threw coins and cigarette lighters at the Turkish team after the final whistle in Tuesday night's EuroChallenge Group G game.
He said police prevented a group of APOEL fans from charging the Turkish team's locker room, while tear gas was used to disperse about 500 stone-throwing fans outside the stadium. Three 15-year-olds were arrested.
Katsounotos said police later safely escorted the Turkish team to its hotel. The team left the island Wednesday morning.

Forest and Derby fans prevented from 'causing disorder'
POLICE prevented up to 100 Nottingham Forest and Derby County fans from meeting up to cause trouble before the clubs met last night.
About 30 Derby fans and between 60 and 70 Forest fans had intended to meet in the Maid Marian Way area of the city for "an organised attempt to cause disorder", police said.
No arrests were made at the time, though five people were arrested later on.
One was for a pitch invasion, one for attempting to enter the ground while drunk, one for a drugs offence and two for public order offences.
Forest won the match 5-2.
Superintendent Mark Holland, who was in charge of policing the match, said: "Overall the vast majority of the fans were extremely well behaved and were able to enjoy what was a great game between the two teams.
"However, before the match, at around 6pm, officers acted on intelligence to prevent two groups of fans, and I use the term loosely, meeting in the Maid Marian Way area of the city centre for what was an organised attempt to cause disorder.
"Thanks to the plans we had in place and the excellent work of the officers we were able to prevent any trouble breaking out between the two groups."

Galatasaray fans attack Fener U-17 players - 26/12/2010
Source : Todayszaman.com
Galatasaray fans attacked Fenerbahçe players at halftime during the Under-17 Academy League match between the teams at Galatasaray’s Metin Oktay Facilities in İstanbul on Sunday. The referee called off the match after the attack by hooligans.
At the break, with the score tied at 1-1, a number of Fenerbahçe footballers were attacked by Galatasaray fans as they headed to their dressing room, the Fenerbahçe official website reported.
Some Fenerbahçe footballers were injured as a result of the incident and one of them reportedly suffered a broken nose. The injured were rushed to the Bakırköy State Hospital for medical treatment.
After their treatment, the Fener team was taken to a Bakırköy police station, where the footballers filed a criminal complaint against the attackers. Fenerbahçe Deputy Chairman Şekip Mosturoğlu and club board member Hüseyin Topbaş also went to the police station. Mosturoğlu said the police were doing everything possible to apprehend the hooligans.
The Fenerbahçe squad later headed to the club’s Dereağzı facilities by taxi.
Speaking on FBTV, the club’s official television channel, Fenerbahçe U-17 coach Engin Kabaş said the stadium lacked security precautions at the time of the incident. “It is a shame in the name of sports that our players were attacked before the very eyes of their family members,” he said. The footage of the attack was aired on FBTV.
In the meantime, Galatasaray issued a statement on its official website condemning the attack and expressing sympathy for its eternal rival Fenerbahçe.
