Foul-mouthed Blues fan gets three-year ban - 10/03/2010

Source : echo-news.co.uk

A TEENAGER has received a football banning order after his continually abusive behaviour at a Blues game.

Ben Goodwin, 18, from Grave-send in Kent was sitting in Roots Hall’s West stand with home supporters during Southend United’s Boxing Day game against Colchester United.

Some fans complained to police about his use of abusive gestures and language and he was warned by police and stewards to stop, as he was surrounded by children and family groups. But he ignored the warning and continued making offensive gestures, so was arrested during the match.

Goodwin appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on January 20 where he pleaded guilty to a public order offence and was fined £150 plus costs. A football banning order application was also made at this stage but, as it was contested, the case was adjourned.

But he has now reappeared before magistrates who handed him the three-year order.

During his court appearance, evidence was given in relation to other incidents involving the defendant and members of the Southend Risk Group, a group of known troublemakers who have been turfed out of matches because of their behaviour.

Det Con Dick Spooner, football liaison officer, said: “Southend United promote all their matches as family events, but Boxing Day games are known for their family-friendly atmosphere. On this occasion, the man was surrounded by children and family groups who were understandably offended.

“He was given the opportunity to curb his behaviour when he was warned by police and stewards. However, when he continued to ignore the warnings, we had no choice but to arrest him for a public order offence.”

“I understand supporters get excited at matches and need to let off steam, however it’s agreed by Southend United and the police that such continual abusive behaviour is simply unacceptable.

“To some people, a banning order may seem harsh but from the police perspective, it’s the right result.”

Football hooligans in dock for tube battle - 10/03/2010

Source : Bromley Times

FOUR drunken football fans are facing jail for taking part in a mass brawl on a crowded London underground platform.

Terrified train passengers looked on as rival groups of Manchester United and Millwall fans clashed at Euston station.

Both sets of supporters had been drinking heavily on their way back from away matches when they ran into each other on the evening of November 8, 2008.

Millwall fans Dean Maxwell, 25, from Bromley and Dean West, 21, from Maidstone and Manchester United supporters Kieran and Michele Carey, 26 and 24, from Luton all admitted threatening behaviour at Southwark Crown Court.

Judge Peter Testar bailed them ahead of sentencing, due to take place yesterday, but warned all that sentencing options including jail are open.

He said the defendants had consumed "heroic amounts of drink in most cases".

Kieran and Michele Carey, were charged alongside three other members of their family: father Stephen, 51, brother Liam, 20, and cousin Ryan, 29.

The charges against Stephen, Liam and Ryan Carey were dropped after each agreed to be bound over in the sum of £3,500 to keep the peace for a year.

Fighting broke out at around 6.20pm on November 8 on a tube train at Euston, as the Carey family made their way home to Luton from the Emirates Stadium, following Manchester United's 2-1 defeat by Arsenal.

West and Maxwell were returning south from Chester, where Millwall had earlier won 3-0.

Eyewitnesses, some with children, reported the fans singing football songs as they squared up before violence erupted.

The court heard that West and Maxwell are both already subject to football banning orders, with West receiving his ban for a pitch invasion. Maxwell, of Oakridge Road, Downham, Bromley, Kieran and Michele Carey, and West, from Maidstone, admitted threatening behaviour.

Stephen, and Liam Carey, of the same address, and Ryan Carey, of Henry Bird Way, Northampton, each agreed to keep the peace for 12 months, with forfeits of £3,500 each if they fail to keep their promise.

An eighth man, Manchester United fan Paul Gregory, 26, from Luton, who was with the Carey family, received a similar punishment at an earlier hearing.

Charges of affray against all the defendants were dropped.

France : Nice to play PSG game behind closed doors - 11/03/2010

Source : AFP

Nice will be forced to play Paris Saint-Germain behind closed doors in their Ligue 1 encounter later this month, March, the French League of Professional Football (LFP) said Thursday.

LFP officials said that fans would be barred from the game scheduled to take place against PSG on Saturday 20 March as a punishment for crowd trouble at Nice's away game at Monaco last January.

But the LFP's decision to impose the sanction for the match against the one-time giants of French football drew an angry response from new Nice manager Eric Roy.

"I've the impression that this decision suits everybody except us," Roy said.

"Clearly we would have liked it to be another match. Nice - PSG is still a big game for a lot of (Nice) fans. It's a top-draw fixture that pulls in a big crowd.

Sweden : Police identify Uruguayan star's tormentors- 10/03/2009

Source : thelocal.se + svd.se + fotboll.expressen.se

Police have identified nine of the sixteen Hammarby supporters who crashed an AIK training session on Wednesday and threatened Uruguayan international midflieder Sebastián Eguren.

A firm favourite with Hammarby fans during his tenure at the club, Eguren became a hate figure for extreme supporter elements when he signed recently for arch rivals AIK after returning from a lengthy loan spell at Villareal in Spain.

On Tuesday irate hooligans moved their activities off various web forums and onto the training pitch at Skytteholms IP to put their message across to Eguren in person: "Traitor. We're going to get you. This is just a warning -- we'll be back."

Eguren was protected by his teammates, who formed a barrier around the player. The hooligans then left the training ground and had disappeared by the time police arrived at the scene.

But as the reigning Swedish champions keep video recordings of all training sessions, police officers working closely with fan violence were quickly able to identify nine known troublemakers, Sveriges Radio reports. The fans are suspected of making unlawful threats and could face criminal charges.

"We're in talks with AIK, who have primary responsibility as the employer. We'll have to wait and see how the police will become involved in this," police officer Hans Löfdahl told the public broadcaster.

Police plea over Southampton FA Cup tie CCTV images - 11/03/2010

Source : BBC News

Season 09/10 - March - Page 2 Facup

Police have released 10 CCTV images of fans they want to speak to following violence in Southampton after the FA Cup tie against rivals Portsmouth.

Eleven men were arrested and charged with public order offences after bricks and bottles were thrown outside St Mary's stadium on 13 February.

Four of them were also banned from football matches for three years.

Officers hope the public may be able to identify the people in the images or those pictured will contact police.

Det Insp Linda Howard, from Hampshire police, said: "We are working hard to find those few supposed football fans who decided to mar the day by resorting to violence.

"Luckily for most of the 32,000 fans that went to the game it was a great sporting day out even if the result was not what some would have liked.

"It would be even better for those in the pictures, if they see themselves, to get in contact with us directly."

Train warning for football fans - 11/03/2010

Source : BBC News

Fans of Tayside's three football clubs now risk losing their season tickets if they are involved in trouble anywhere on Scotland's rail network.

Dundee, St Johnstone and Dundee United supporters detained or arrested by British Transport Police (BTP) also face football banning orders.

The BTP has agreed to share information with the three clubs in a bid to tackle disorder and anti-social behaviour.

The scheme is already in place with many other Scottish football clubs.

Football banning orders prevent fans from attending matches in Scotland, the UK or abroad for up to 10 years.

The Scottish area BTP initiative also applies to the Glasgow subway.

Misbehaviour

Det Ch Insp Alex McGuire, from the BTP, said: "In signing these protocols we now have a mechanism of informing the club of any offenders who come to the attention of British Transport Police, if it is appropriate.

"This will allow the football club to take whatever action they deem appropriate to avoid any recurrence."

Spokesmen for both the Dundee clubs said they were happy to be involved in the scheme.

The Dundee United spokesman added: "The exchange of information regarding any persons involved in misbehaviour is important to ensure that the good name of genuine football supporters is not tarnished by the actions of a few."

Police quiz four fans after Echo appeal - 12/03/2010

Source : Daily Echo

POLICE were today interviewing a number of suspects who have handed themselves in following an appeal to find those responsible for violent scenes after the recent FA Cup derby match between Southampton and Portsmouth.

Four men contacted police following the front page appeal in yesterday’s Daily Echo, right, after police released pictures of people they wanted to speak to in connection with the inquiry.

Officers have reiterated their message for the remaining people to hand themselves in before they are identified by the police, and get a knock at their door.

Police filmed an angry mob of Saints supporters as they streamed out of St Mary’s following their side’s 4-1 defeat to their south coast rivals.

Trouble flared at the Freeborn Motors garage at Britannia Road when the fans threw missiles, taunted Portsmouth fans and threatened police while causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Officers investigating the violent scenes, codenamed Operation Austen, are also calling on the public to call in if they recognise any of the faces that can still be viewed at dailyecho.co.uk.

Cyprus : APOEL - AEL - 07/03/2010

Source : ikypros.com + sportive.com.cy + cyprus-mail.com

Four officers injured in football violence

FOUR policemen were injured Sunday in the latest outbreak of football violence. Police are examining CCTV footage from the GSP stadium in Nicosia, but so far there have been no arrests.

Trouble erupted after the final whistle at a league fixture between APOEL and AEL, teams whose die-hard fans have a long-running vendetta.

Stadium authorities and police had devised security arrangements to keep the two sets of fans apart by allowing the home team supporters to leave the grounds first. With the final whistle, loudspeakers instructed the visiting AEL supporters to remain in their seats while the APOEL fans exited the stadium. The majority complied.

But according to the police, a group of around 20 AEL fans started pushing and banging on the door on the northern terrace, eventually breaking it down. Some 200 AEL supporters then rushed outside and headed in the direction of the home fans.

Riot squad units and police deployed between the two sets of fans, and were caught in the middle of a blitz of sticks and stones. Police used tear gas to disperse the mob.

Three policemen sustained light injuries, and a fourth suffered an arm contusion.

Yesterday the Police Association released a statement both condemning the incidents and warning that “this situation will no longer be tolerated.”

The association accused club officials of trying to shift the blame for bouts of hooliganism onto the police. It also warned of an anticipated rise in sports violence as the season gradually draws to a close.

******************************

Brawl occured during this 25th journey of Cyprus championship, where 4 policemen were injured, one of them had his hand broken.
At the end of the game, as police bloked AEL supporters inside the stadium, 20 of them broke down a gate and 200 others entered another terrace so, locals and AEL supporters fronted themselves but police made a line between both sides using tear gas.
Riots continued outside the stadium.

Angry Hertha fans invade pitch after loss to Nuremberg

Dozens of Hertha Berlin fans, some armed with steel bars, stormed the Olympic stadium pitch on Saturday after a 2-1 loss to Nuremberg left the rock-bottom capital side contemplating relegation.

Minutes after Nuremberg striker Angelos Haristeas struck an injury-time winner to give the visitors a crucial win that lifted them out of the relegation zone on 24 points, angry Hertha fans invaded the pitch.

Players and coaching staff from both teams fled into the changing rooms for cover as fans vented their frustration on team benches and advertising panels and also threatened stewards.

Police chased the fans back into the stands.

Hertha Berlin Fans Run Riot After 2-1 Loss To Nuernberg

Hertha Berlin hooligans went on a violent rampage after their side remained rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga table after losing 2-1 at home to Nuernberg on Saturday.

According to Goal.com Germany, around 100 fans stormed the pitch, some of them armed, as they attempted to attack players, and coach Friedhelm Funkel.

Players in fear for their lives fled the scene as the thugs trashed the dugouts before police intervened to restore some order.

Rock-bottom Hertha succumbed to their 12th game at home without a win. Theofanis Gekas scored, before Albert Bunjaku pulled Nuernberg level. Angelos Charisteas struck the killer blow in stoppage time, prompting the chaotic scenes.

After the game Nuernberg's coach Dieter Hecking called for urgent action following the security breach as fans continued to roam the pitch.

"It's very serious what happens in German stadiums, and we must ensure football does not degenerate. I don't understand why these idiots ran onto the pitch," he told the press.
