Thaïland: Thai Port FC banned - ??/03/2010
Source: thai press
Thailand’s FA Cup holders Thai Port FC have been slapped with a fine of THB131,750 (USD4,100) and banned from playing at their PAT Stadium for three matches.
The FA of Thailand (FAT) decided on the punishments following Thai Port FC’s part in a scuffle which involved their fans during the King's Trophy match at Supachalasai Stadium last month against Muang Thong United.
Nine people were injured when Port fans clashed with Muang Thong United supporters which at the time saw the latter leading the match 2-0.
“Apart from the fine and the ban, the ten fans that started the violence have also been barred from entering any stadium for one year,” said FAT vice president Pol Lt Gen Vorapong Chiewpreecha.
Other than that, Port defender Pongpipat Kamnuan, who encouraged fans to cause trouble, faces a three-match suspension while coach Sasom and Muang Thong coach Rene Desaeyere, who were almost engaged in a fist fight, are banned from the touchline for three games.

Rangers fan who battered cop faces jail - 22/03/2010
Glasgow Rangers fan has been found guilty of taking part in a ‘sustained and ferocious attack’ on a riot cop amid UEFA Cup Final night chaos in Manchester city centre.
Cab driver Scott McS., 21, denied assaulting Pc John Goodwin and violent disorder on May 14, 2008 – the night of the match between Glasgow Rangers and Zenit St Petersburg.
But he was found guilty of both charges after a trial at Manchester crown court and will be sentenced later this year.
Prosecuting barrister Ricky Holland said McS. was among a ‘seething mass’ of Rangers fans who kicked and punched the police officer unconscious amid ‘appalling scenes’.
The jury heard that ‘disorder on a massive scale’ erupted following the failure of a screen in Piccadilly Gardens that was supposed to show the match.
McSeveney, from Shotts, Lanarkshire, was part of a large group who 'marauded their way down Newton Street in pursuit of retreating police officers’, Mr Holland said.
He said: “CCTV footage shows Mr McS. in concert with a large number of others repeatedly and with ferocity attacking police officers who, although they were vastly outnumbered, were doing their courageous best to try and quell the disorder."
The footage shown to the jury shows the officers being pelted with bottles and bins by a horde of people as they walked backwards down the street.
Mr Holland said that the fact Pc Goodwin, who has since been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, escaped with limited injuries had ‘much more to do with providence than anything else’.
He said the attackers would have done him ‘far more serious harm’ if they had not failed to pull off his helmet.
However, the court heard, not all the Glasgow Rangers fans had come to the city with trouble in mind.
A woman threw herself on top of Pc Goodwin to try and save him from the mob.
And in the minutes before the attack, a man can be seen on CCTV raising his arms to try and stop the surging horde. This man, Mr Holland claimed, ended up being ‘pushed to the floor and trampled on’.
An officer viewed 32 hours of footage from the night, following McS. through the crowd. Police officers who know him from his hometown later identified him as the mystery man.
His phone number, which he gave to North Lanarkshire Council when he applied for a private hire licence, could also be placed in the city centre on the night.
A Glasgow Rangers shirt McS. was wearing back-to-front on the night was later recovered from his girlfriend’s home.
Before the jury was sworn in, Judge Andrew Blake checked that none of the panel or their family and friends had been attacked or lost property on the night, that they had not been caught up in the incident, and that they did not work for the police.

RIOT POLICE steamed in to restore order in a Brazilian League game - by baton-charging and pepper-spraying the players.
Fans at the clash between Genus and Moto Clube in the north west of Brazil were stunned when the ref called in police after sent-off Genus player Robson refused to leave the pitch.
Genus players then surrounded the ref, who called in help.
Clad in full riot gear and brandishing shields and batons, four officers tried to escort Robson off.
When he refused to go, they pepper-sprayed him and other players in the face.
In the confusion that followed, the match was abandoned.
Rondonia State Vice-Governor, Joao Cahula, said: "I will talk to the Police Chief to take all measures necessary.
"If the policemen overreacted, they will be punished for that."

CCTV: Police hunt for train thugs - 26/03/2010
Source : manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Two men are wanted by transport police after rival football fans had a fight on a train following the Manchester derby.
It happened just after midnight on January 28 on a train bound for Blackpool North from Manchester Piccadilly.
Police believe the men involved were rival United and City fans. It happened after the two clubs clashed in the semi-final of the Carling Cup.
Now officers have released CCTV pictures of two men they want to question about the incident.
Pc John Hallows from British Transport Police said: “We need to trace these men, who we believe left the train at Bolton, to get to the bottom of what exactly happened on board the train.
“Violence in any form is unacceptable, particularly on the railway, and BTP will do everything in its power to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
He added: “When violence is linked to football, we will seek further punishments for those involved.
Disrepute
“The majority of football fans are law-abiding citizens, but there is a minority who, by virtue of their behaviour, bring the game and the notion of being a supporter into disrepute.
“If people choose to behave this way, they will be proactively dealt with and we will continue to work with football clubs and other partner agencies to seek football banning orders.”
Two men, aged 23 and 24, from Preston, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are on police bail until 18 April 2010.

Leeds United - Millwall FC - 22/03/2010
Source : yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk
Police were pelted with missiles as they tried to stop hundreds of fans clashing after Leeds United's clash with Millwall.
A 300-strong crowd tried to confront visiting Millwall fans following the match, which saw the Whites crash to a 2-0 home defeat.
And police have warned they will now review video footage of the incidents which could see troublemakers banned from matches or slapped with ASBOs.
Chief Supt Mark Milsom, match commander for the fixture, told the YEP: "The build up to the match and the match itself passed with relatively few problems.
"However, afterwards a crowd of around 300 people, many of whom were believed to be teenagers, gathered on Little Town Lane intent on causing trouble and confronting the visiting supporters who had been 'held back' in the stadium for their own safety.
"Our officers responded swiftly and positively to disperse the crowd and made a number of arrests.
"During the dispersal, officers were subjected to sporadic incidents of stones and other missiles being thrown at them and their police vehicles - four vehicles suffered damage to their windows."
Thirteen people were arrested over the course of the evening for a variety of public order offences.
And Chf Supt Milsom added: "As part of their ongoing work, our Football Banning Order Unit already has the extensive video footage of the incidents taken by our evidence gathering teams.
"We will be actively following up any evidence against those involved, including the younger members of the crowd, with a view to successfully obtaining Football Banning Orders and Anti-Social Behaviour Orders against them."

QPR - Swansea City - 22/03/2010
Source: english press (thanks to the sender)
Football thugs go on rampage after QPR match
Rampaging football thugs forced families to run to safety after violent clashes broke out near Loftus Road last weekend. Witnesses reported seeing up to 100 QPR and Swansea fans fighting pitched battles outside The Springbok bar in South Africa Road after the final whistle last Saturday. Police struggled to contain the warring supporters, who hurled bottles at each other and even attacked a police horse. Terrified bystanders compared the violence to that of the 1970s, a notorious era for football-related hooliganism. One man wrote on networking site Twitter: "Just had to run with my 10-year-old to get out of a fight between Swansea City and QPR supporters. "It was like the 1970s again." The Springbok's licensee, Tina Moran, was forced to close her doors and said the level of violence was unprecedented in the two years she has run the bar. She accused police of being under prepared for the visit of the Welsh club's notorious fans, and has also blamed the QPR for serving them alcohol during the match. She said: "Some of the Swansea fans who came in here before the violence kicked off said Loftus Road was only the third ground in the country where they'd been allowed to drink. There should have been a ban. "There was a lot of trouble and not enough police there. There were only four wagons and by the time they got here it had already started. "People were getting hit with batons and I saw a QPR fan go for a horse. I have never really ever seen a fight since I've been here but I know there has been trouble with Swansea in the past. "Thank God there wasn't more serious injuries. But I'm worried about Cardiff coming down here now, this is just going to make things worse and they need to make the kick-off earlier." Cardiff fans contributed to violence in Fulham Broadway following an FA Cup match with Chelsea last month. A QPR spokesman defended the club's policy of serving alcohol during the match, saying: “The issue was not the amount that they were drinking in the stadium. We didn’t serve those that we believe had been drinking throughout the day. “For the record, we declined entry to a number of those that were drunk on arrival and some supporters were also ejected during the match.” Police said three arrests were made for public order offences and said about 40 people were fighting. A spokesman said: "Officers moved quickly to diffuse the situation."

Fans in court over Saints and Pompey violence - 26/03/2010
Source : portsmouth.co.uk
Fourteen men have appeared in court charged with violent disorder following clashes between rival Portsmouth and Southampton fans. Only one of the accused - Alan Taylor, 30, of Milton Road, Southampton - pleaded guilty at Southampton Magistrates Court yesterday.
The men, including Martin Bishop, 42, of Wheatlands, Fareham, are all charged over violence that erupted between fans before and after Pompey beat Saints 4-1 at St Mary's Stadium in Southampton last month.
Their appearances came as police investigating trouble released footage to The News of clashes between fans near the ground in Britannia Road following the game.
The shots, filmed from Hampshire Constabulary's fixed-wing aircraft, show an angry mob of hundreds of Southampton fans rush through the forecourt of Freeborn garage opposite St Mary's stadium after the match, hurling abuse at Pompey fans.
Police officers in fluorescent yellow jackets can be seen trying to stop the baying crowd from breaking through a metal fence and rushing towards their rivals.
Pompey fan Keith Strevett, 77, of South Road, Horndean, suffered a head injury after being hit by a rock thrown by opposing fans in Britannia Road.
And fellow fan Robert Graeney, 51, of Kimberley Road, Southsea, Portsmouth, suffered a cut about one in long below his left eye after being hit by flying debris.
About £30,000 worth of damage was done to property at the Freeborn garage during the trouble.
So far eight men have been charged after police released CCTV of 10 suspects wanted in relation to violence on derby day.
In total 23 men have now been arrested and charged as part of Operation Austen.
James Koral, 20, of Haddon Drive, Eastleigh, Michael Byles, 24, of Aldemoor Road, Southampton, Matthew Hinton, 19, of Hillside Avenue, Southampton and Ross Phillips, 28, of Swift road, Southampton, also appeared before Southampton magistrates yesterday.
Lewis Buckley, 24, of The Milburns, Romsey, James Smith, 34, of Brentwood Crescent, Southampton, Christopher Stevens, 46, of Stagbrake Close, Southampton, Xavier Whyte, 22, of Wilton Road, Southampton, Kevin Medway, 28, of Old Farm Drive, Townhill Park, Southampton, also appeared.
And Stephen Jordan, 49, and son Cameron Jordan, 21, of Middle Road, Southampton, and Marcus Bevan, 22, of Warburton Road, Southampton appeared before the court.
More than 260 officers were involved in policing the match on February 13, including mounted officers on horseback from Thames Valley Police, police dog handlers and the British Transport Police.
Taylor was released on unconditional bail to appear at Southampton crown Court for sentencing on April 22. The remaining 13 accused were released on unconditional bail to appear at Southampton crown Court on May 7.

Police out in full force for March 27 Levski Sofia – CSKA football derby
The Sofia police department will commit "its entire resources" on March 27 during the Levski Sofia FC v CSKA Sofia "eternal derby" match at 7.45pm at Vassil Levski national stadium, Dnevnik daily reported.
About 1400 riot police and mounted police will be mobilised, while a further 150 police officers will be inside the ground around the B and G terraces (where the hardcore elements of the Levski and CSKA faithful are usually allocated).
"This is nothing new for us, and I think that at this stage we are fully prepared for the derby," police chief Mladen Marinov was quoted as saying.
The Sofia police department will be reinforced by mounted police, mobile police units and the gendarmerie.
Armoured vehicles equipped with water cannons will be deployed around the ground as well, which will be used in the case of a full-blown riot.
"But we are hoping that the people will go to the ground and will behave properly; that they will go there to watch football and not cause mayhem," Marinov said.
"We are not trying to intimidate or to imply that we expect running battles, pitch invasions, and such. We are hoping for the match to be calm," he said.
"Of course, if two people decide they want to fight, they will, and there is nothing really we can do about that. But we will make sure that police are everywhere, and those responsible will be held accountable".
The "eternal derby" is Bulgaria's most passionate football encounter of the season. Public disorder, running battles, and destruction of public property are not uncommon when the two teams meet.

Bulgarian police arrested 24 fans in connection with violence at the league match between champions Levski Sofia and city rivals CSKA on Saturday.
The 125th "eternal derby", as games between the two most popular Bulgarian clubs are called, was briefly interrupted early in the second half as firemen and riot police moved on to the athletics track around the pitch to put out fires.
"The police have arrested 19 fans before the match for grave offences against public order," said a police spokesperson. He later said five more fans were arrested after the game.
Saturday's match was a dull affair that finished goalless.
The game has a history of crowd trouble with Bulgarian police unveiling strict security measures ahead of the game.
About 1,400 policemen were on duty for the match played less than a week after CSKA's game at Lokomotiv Mezdra was abandoned midway through the second half due to crowd trouble.

Bristol City threaten to ban firework hooligans
Bristol City will ban for life fans who set off firecrackers and shoved a steward down terracing during their 1-0 win at Peterborough yesterday.
Peterborough are studying CCTV images after a group of around 60 City supporters let off four fireworks and will pass any evidence to the police.
The steward appeared to injure his back in the fall but was able to walk away.
City caretaker manager Keith Millen said: 'Someone could have been hurt. If the police can find the people involved, they need to be punished, and that could be a ban. The people who brought the fireworks into the ground need to be found as they were endangering people around them.
'We want fans to travel and enjoy themselves and they can't be seen to be doing something like that.'
A Peterborough spokesman said: 'Fireworks are banned from the stadium. A firecracker would cause substantial damage if it went off in someone's face and we strongly condemn anyone bringing banned objects into the stadium.
'No one was arrested and it is now a case of studying CCTV and handing evidence to police, who can issue banning orders.'
