| Marseille prefect warns fans of danger in Paris - 25/02/2010Source : Reuters Olympique Marseille fans will be in "real danger" when the Ligue 1 title contenders visit arch-rivals Paris St Germain on Sunday, authorities in the Marseille region said. Clashes between supporters erupted in the centre of Marseille after their first encounter of the season was postponed last October only hours before kick-off due to swine flu cases in the PSG squad. Twenty people were injured and 18 were arrested. Five Marseille fans were later sentenced to jail terms. French authorities fear a repeat of the violence when the Provence side, who are fifth, six points behind leaders Girondins Bordeaux, visit PSG at Parc des Princes (2000 GMT). Around 1,500 Marseille fans are expected to come to Paris and they will be allowed to travel only under reinforced police surveillance. "They have to understand that all those measures are taken in their best interest and to protect their integrity. They are in real danger as some PSG fans want to try and assault them," prefect of Marseille region Michel Sappin told reporters. "We've gathered very specific information and there is a risk of ambushes and clashes. Whether Marseille fans comply with security measures or they stay at home... they will have to deal with some people who are out of control at Parc des Princes," he added. PSG did not respond directly to Sappin but club chairman Robin Leproux said everybody should avoid "extreme statements" in order to ease tensions. (Archive : 15-03-2009) | |

| PSG fans freed after Marseille skirmishes - 26/02/2010
Source : expatica.com
The six Paris Saint-Germain fans detained prior to the Marseille-FC Copenhagen Europa League match here on Thursday were released overnight, a judicial source revealed on Friday.
Three of them, aged in their 30s, will be required to appear before Marseille's correctional court on public order charges while the other three were released without charge.
The six individuals were among a group of 20 PSG fans who were seen attempting to infiltrate groups of Danish supporters by local riot police in several areas of the city including the surroundings of Marseille's Stade Velodrome.
The fans had travelled to Marseille with the express intention of fighting OM supporters, according to the same source.
Marseille travel to Paris to face PSG on Sunday in one of the most hotly anticipated clashes of the French football calendar.
The reverse fixture in October saw fans clash with police in Marseille city centre after the match was postponed at short notice due to an outbreak of swine flu among the PSG playing staff.

| Huddersfield Town v Leeds United: Police reveal plan to keep fans apart - 25/02/2010
Source : Yorkshire Evening Post
Police today revealed details of their plan to keep rival football fans apart after this weekend's derby game between Leeds United and Huddersfield Town.
Officers have decided that holding United's 3,900-strong following inside Huddersfield's Galpharm Stadium at the final whistle on Saturday would not be the best use of their resources.
They are instead implementing a one-way exit system that will stop home supporters gaining access to the ground's Pink Link South Stand car park from the Direct Golf Stand area for a period after the game.
The South Stand has been allocated to away fans.
West Yorkshire Police's Supt Mick Wharton said: "Clearly for those (Huddersfield supporters] who are parking their vehicles on the South Stand car park, there will be some delay.
"Asking them to consider waiting in their seats rather than elsewhere seems a sensible request.
"At the end of the day, I am asking for 20 minutes of patience from a relatively small number of people so that everyone can enjoy the match and leave in a controlled manner at the end of the game."
The League One fixture kicks off at 12.30pm.

| Carling Cup Final: Officers to patrol trains and tube services - 27/02/2010
Source : Birmingham Mail
BRITISH Transport Police officers will be out in force on routes to London tomorrow ahead of Villa’s crunch Carling Cup Final encounter.
A sell-out crowd of 90,000 fans will fill Wembley as Villa and Manchester United go head-to-head.
Thousands more are expected to make the trip down to watch the game in pubs near the ground.
Transport Police Supt John Hennigan, who is in charge of the Carling Cup Final operation, asked Villa supporters for their co-operation.
“It promises to be a great day of football and our officers will be helping everyone enjoy it by travelling to and from the game safely,” he said.
“We’ll have officers on shift from early in the morning travelling with fans from Manchester and Birmingham and back with them after the match.
“Unfortunately some fans can get caught up in the excitement of the day and, combined with alcohol, this can result in some less-than-desirable behaviour.
“Trains are confined spaces and it can be a very intimidating experience for families and children when they find themselves in a carriage packed with rowdy fans.
“We’re asking fans to show some consideration for others on board the train and keep their language and behaviour clean.”
More than 80 hooligans linked to Aston Villa are banned from travelling to Wembley for the game under the conditions of their football banning orders.

| Marseille ultra fans to boycott PSG match - 27/02/2010
Source : USA TODAY
A group of Marseille supporters say they will boycott Sunday's French league match at Paris Saint-Germain to protest against security measures imposed on visiting fans.
The group, called "Ultras Marseille," said Saturday in a statement it won't travel to Paris because of "hysterical security measures."
Marseille supporters will be searched before setting off in special buses escorted by police.
Marseille and PSG fans have a long history of clashes. They fought in downtown Marseille after the late postponement of their first meeting of the season in October. Nearly a dozen people were injured.

Marseille fans boycott PSG game
Marseille fans are boycotting Sunday's game at Paris Saint-Germain in protest over stringent security measures by the French authorities imposed to reduce the risk of violent clashes between the bitter rivals' supporters.
The move was announced by a spokesman for Winners, one of the club's main supporters' group.
"There's a general boycott," he told AFP on Saturday.
"We made this decision some time ago. No one will go up there (to Paris). It's a kick in the teeth to those who have taken these measures which we can't accept."
Another Marseille supporters' group, the Ultras, had already declared their intention not to travel to the match, which has been classified as high risk by French security forces.
Around 1,500 Marseille fans were expected to make the trip to the Parc des Princes for Sunday evening's game.
Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier, who confirmed that he too would not be attending the game, applauded the decision.
"Marseille supporters don't agree and they're right at being lumped together in the same bag as PSG," he said.
Earlier Saturday the Ultras had said they had cancelled their trip to the capital as they refused to be treated "like criminals".
According to security plans drawn up for the match, buses ferrying Marseille fans to the Parc des Princes were to be escorted from the time they left Marseille, and not, as usual, when they arrived in the Paris suburbs.
Body searches were also to be carried out before fans boarded the coaches, and match tickets were only being handed out at the time of departure.
Security officials had also demanded a full list of names of the travelling fans.
This is not the first such boycott of 'Le Clasico' by eight-time French champions Marseille's fans.
In 2006 the south-coast side's supporters followed advice from the then Marseille management, who were concerned that their security could not be assured.
For that game Marseille sent their youth team in protest, who came away with a 0-0 draw.

| Chilean fans interrupt training to insult coach and team - 27/02/2010
Source : Reuters
Chilean police intervened on Friday when about 100 Universidad Catolica fans interrupted training and insulted the players and Marco Antonio Figueroa, the coach that many want sacked.
Some supporters were arrested for invading the practice grounds. The team have had poor results this year in the Apertura championship and in the South American Libertadores Cup despite reaching last year’s Clausura final.
“The manner in which they came in shows there is an aggressive attitude. Without doubt that is not the way. We’re sorry and hope it won’t happen again,” the club’s general manager Felipe Achondo said.
Catolica lost 2-0 at Flamengo in a Libertadores Cup Group Eight match in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, their fourth successive defeat in all competitions.

| Egypt: Hooligans disrupt Mahalla training - 27/02/2010
Source: http://filgoal.com/English/News.aspx?NewsID=65331
Ghazl Mahalla boss Mohamed Radwan called off his team's training session after some hooligans got onto the pitch to attack players and coaching staff members.
The Egyptian Premier League minnows were holding their first session after the winter break behind closed doors on Saturday.
However, some fans expressed their frustration over Mahalla's poor results of late by disrupting the training.
The hotheads picked fights with skipper Mohamed Al-Etrawi and deputy keeper Sameh Ali, while head coach Radwan was cursed.
The security forces eventually stepped in to contain the situation.
Mahalla slumped to three successive losses to Masri, Asyut Petroleum and Mansoura to move back to 12th place on 21 points in the league table, three clear of the relegation zone.
Radwan and his assistants should decide soon whether or not to stay at Mahalla.

Source: http://www.cyprus-mail.com/sport/volleyball-hooligans-cause-extensive-damage-nicosia-stadium/20100228
APPROXIMATELY 150 individuals caused extensive damages to the Eleftheria ‘Tassos Papadopoulos’ Stadium in Nicosia on Friday night following the volleyball match between Omonia and Anorthosis.
Extensive damage was caused to all the windows and glass surfaces near the entrance to the stadium, to the furnishing and fixtures of a number of the offices, and to electrical fittings and appliances.
The match itself started 50 minutes late, due to episodes involving around 20 fans, which caused a delay to the arrival of the Anorthosis volleyball team. When the bus carrying the players was seen to be approaching the stadium, the group of around 20 youths, who had their faces covered, approached it and started throwing stones.
As a result, according to police reports, the bus’s front windshield was broken and two other windows of the vehicle were also damaged. The total cost of the damage was estimated at around €4,000.
The fans dispersed, allowing the bus to pass, following police intervention.
After the match a larger number of rioters, totalling around 150, who also had their faces masked, caused disruption and damages both within the stadium and in the surrounding area immediately outside it.
The rioters dispersed after police intervened to restore order.
In terms of the sporting side of the contest, the match was won by Omonia who beat Anorthosis 3 sets to 2. The match formed part of the semi-finals in volleyball, with the finals scheduled to take place on March 5 at the Themistocleous stadium in Limassol

27 dutch hooligans arrested in Antwerp
The local police of Antwerp apprehended Friday evening 27 Dutch hooligans which sought confrontation with GBA supporters, said the spokesperson of the police; Alfons Bastiaenssens. The local police of Antwerp was warned Friday evening, at the end of the game Beerschot-Gent that about forty Dutch supporters from NEC Nijmegenb travelled towards Antwerp to confront with supporters of GBA. “During the summer 2009, at the end of a friendly match between both teams, the hardcores of the two clubs had already brawled in the area of Groesbeek (Nijmegen)”, Alfons Bastiaenssens specified.
The spokesperson affirmed that the police services were still on-site close to the stadium when they were alerted by the dutch police of the arrival of the NEC supporters. “We succeeded in intercepting a certain number of vehicles with on their board Dutch supporters”
The police force specifies that it was clear that these Netherlanders did not have friendly intentions while going to Antwerp since they were provided with metal chains and other objects. “We intercepted 27 supporters which were heard. Statement were drawn up for attacks with the legislation as football law. The Dutch supporters were given in freedom during the course of the night.”
