Scotland : Police caution fan for waving 8ft swastika at football match - 18/02/2010

Source : Edinburgh Evening News

A FAN has been cautioned by police for waving a swastika – at a junior football match.

The supporter – a man in his 20s – was spotted by officers at an ill-tempered Emirates Scottish Junior Cup tie between Bathgate Thistle and Bo'ness United at the weekend.

Officers at the match at Creamery Park in Bathgate warned the Bo'ness supporter who was sitting in the main stand to take down the 8ft flag which was emblazoned with the Nazi emblem.

It came after complaints about sectarian singing in the town's pubs before the game, and sick chants by away supporters during the match relating to the murder of Vicky Hamilton.

A police spokesman said: "A person was warned by police to discard the flag and this was done straight away."

One fan who was at the game said: "There's no need for that in society, never mind at a football game. No one minds a bit of rivalry between clubs, especially at Scottish Cup games where a bit of needle is expected, but that is completely out of order.

"It's got absolutely nothing to do with football. Their grandads probably fought and died against the Nazis."

Bo'ness chairman Dougie Sneddon said a group of "so-called fans" from the town had targeted the club's big matches in the Junior Scottish Cup against local rivals Linlithgow to cause trouble in recent years.

He said: "We have been trying to get rid of that crowd for a long time and don't want them following us. They're damaging our club's reputation.

"For big matches we have to hire extra security on top of the police, and this costs us half our gate money.

"It's a very awkward situation but what can we do about it? We have all our buses vetted by police before we travel. We really can't do anymore.

"We have an official supporters club with a lot of good youngsters who follow us and we only want people who have the club's best interests at heart to come along to our games.

"We are a well supported family club with a lot of older supporters and shouldn't be put in this position by these idiots."

Bathgate Councillor Jim Walker, who also sits on Bathgate Thistle's committee, added: "This type of thing is totally unacceptable.

"We never have anything remotely like this at games but I sympathise and express our appreciation with Bo'ness over 'fans' who surface at Scottish Cup games.

"I wasn't aware of the incident but have since heard the police dealt with this very quickly because we don't want to see this anywhere in society," he added.

A Bo'ness man was banned from every ground in Scotland for throwing a flare on to the pitch in a derby match between Linlithgow and Bo'ness in October last year.

Michael Smith, 21, also lost his job as a security steward at Falkirk FC after he was branded "mindless" by a sheriff and fined £1,000 for the offence.

Bilbao president blames 'drunk' Anderlecht fans for violence

• Violence on pitch after 1-1 draw in Europa League match
• Fernando García Macua says trouble was 'unfortunate'

Athletic Bilbao's president blamed "drunk" Anderlecht supporters for causing crowd trouble after their Europa League first-leg match finished 1-1 yesterday.

Supporters from both clubs fought on the pitch at San Mames Stadium, drawing police on to the field to quell the skirmishes, which included punching and kicking.

TV images showed home supporters in the stands throwing objects on to rival fans. The pre3sident, Fernando García Macua, called the incidents "unfortunate" but put the blame on "drunk" supporters of the Belgian club.

"Anderlecht supporters, you saw them out in the city today drinking a lot and they don't know how to control themselves," Garcia Macua told Canal Plus. "We all came here – almost all of us at least – to see a sporting spectacle. It's unfortunate."

Anderlecht fans threw a rocket flare on to the field after Lucas Biglia opened the scoring for the visitors in the 34th minute.

Mikel San José equalised for Bilbao in the 58th but the Belgian side hold a valuable away goal ahead of Thursday's return leg.

"It's a shame we're talking about this" and not the game, Bilbao's coach, Joaquin Caparros, said. "These types of things shouldn't happen in football."

FK Austria punished with fine and fan ban - 18/02/2010

Source : uefa.com

UEFA's control and disciplinary body has ordered FK Austria Wien to play two European games behind closed doors and to pay a €20,000 fine following disturbances in the UEFA Europa League.

FK Austria Wien have been ordered to play their next two European home games behind closed doors – one of them deferred – and have been fined €20,000 after a decision of the UEFA control and disciplinary body relating to a recent UEFA Europa League match.

In addition to the fine and initial stadium ban, the second game of the two-match penalty imposed on FK Austria will be a suspended punishment, which will be in place for a two-year probationary period.

The sanctions relate to events at FK Austria's UEFA Europa League home game against Athletic Club in Vienna on 3 December. The group-stage match, which the visiting Spanish team won 3-0, was marred by the improper conduct of supporters, including a pitch invasion and the setting-off and throwing of fireworks and missiles. The Austrian Bundesliga club may appeal against the ruling within three days of the dispatch of the written decision.

Athletic could face sanctions - 19/02/2010

Source : SkySports

Athletic Bilbao could face Uefa sanctions after crowd trouble marred their Europa League draw against Anderlecht on Thursday night.

Fans clashed on the pitch in Spain after the first leg of the last-32 tie, which ended 1-1, and incidents before the match saw a reported five fans - four Belgians and a Spaniard - arrested.

Anderlecht coach Ariel Jacobs afterwards regretted the pitch invasion, attributing it to "euphoria" after the result gave the Belgian outfit the edge in the tie.

He said: "I want to thank the Anderlecht fans who have covered so many kilometres to give their support to the team.

"I think the invasion was due to a state of euphoria and it is regrettable."

Uefa has yet to react but it could come down hard on the Spanish outfit after fining Austria Vienna 20,000 euros and ordering them to play two games behind closed doors - one suspended - following incidents in their match against Athletic in December.

That game was interrupted in the second half for about 20 minutes when Austria Vienna fans launched fireworks and ran onto the pitch after their team fell 2-0 behind, with the Spanish club eventually winning the match 3-0.

But Austria director Markus Kraetschmer on Friday called the punishment "draconic", adding that "we'll await the detailed written verdict by Uefa before deciding if we accept it or appeal against it."

Fans face conspiracy charges - 19/02/2010

Source : Shields Gazette

NEWCASTLE United fans accused of planning a violent clash with rival supporters appeared in court yesterday.
The alleged hooligans, aged between 18 and 51, are accused of organising a mass brawl between Newcastle and Sunderland fans at Newcastle Central Station on August 8 last year.

Sunderland fans were returning to the station from a pre-season friendly in Edinburgh.

The rival supporters are accused of laying in wait in the hope of starting a fight.

Newcastle Magistrates Court heard a smoke grenade was thrown at the Black Cats supporters as police escorted them to a waiting Metro train.

Twelve men appeared before Newcastle Magistrates to face charges of conspiracy to commit violent disorder.

None of the men entered pleas and they were all summoned to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on March 3.

Athletic ban urinating fan - 20/02/2010

Source : Reuters

Athletic Bilbao have identified and barred a supporter who urinated on visiting Anderlecht fans during the Europa League match at San Mames.

Bilbao said the fan had apologised unreservedly for his actions and that he had had his club membership suspended pending the outcome of a disciplinary commission hearing.

Television cameras captured the supporter urinating from the upper stands at Thursday's 1-1 draw.

Before the game, Anderlecht fans clashed with police, and after the final whistle there were confrontations between rival fans on the pitch.

Millwall FC - Norwich City - 06/02/2010

Police appeal after Norwich City fans attacked

At least two Norwich City fans needed hospital treatment after being caught up in an attack by football hooligans following a recent away game, police said today, as they appealed for witnesses to the violence.

A group of supporters were drinking at the Globe Tavern near Borough Market, in London, following the 2-1 defeat to Millwall on February 6 when the pub was attacked by a large group.

Southwark CID has issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward and help them crackdown on football violence.

Det Con Darren Swadling said: “Police were called to the Globe Tavern in Bedale Street at around 6.45pm to reports of a fight and damage being caused to the premises. It is believed a large group of men were involved in the disturbance.

“Two men were treated for non serious injuries and around £2,000 worth of damage was caused to the pub after two windows were smashed.”

The Yarmouth Yellows supporters group were among those inside the pub at the time. They had been drinking with a group of friendly Millwall fans when trouble flared.

One Canaries fan said the pub had been pelted with bottles and bricks. He added: “One minute we were having a quiet drink and a bit of banter with some Millwall fans, the next we were attacked by a group of thugs. It was a frightening experience.”

A Millwall fan, who was in the pub at the time and suffered head injuries, said the trouble was “getting ridiculous”. He said he feared for the reputation of the team - whose name has become synonymous with hooliganism.

He added: “I was drinking in there with four Norwich supporters who I know from over the seasons - there were about 20 or 30 of them in the pub. Then a couple of Millwall supporters turned up - I don't know if one of them tried getting a drink and got told he wouldn't get served.

“Then they went mad, starting throwing glasses, ash trays and bottles - it was like a free for all. Millwall went outside and most of the windows got put through. There were a few people who got hurt. Three or four Norwich supporters got put in an ambulance with head injuries.”

Head of security at Millwall, Ken Chapman, said the club did everything it could to keep trouble out of The Den - the London club's home ground.

Last year nine Canaries supporters were jailed after going on a rampage in Leicester following a heavy away defeat in February 2008. Leicester Crown Court heard how a gang of 13 City fans hurled missiles bricks concrete blocks and chairs after the match. Two Leicester City fans were also jailed for their part in the violence.

Vandalism damage at Luton Football Club costs £9,000 - 20/02/2010

Source : BBC News

Luton Town Football Club bosses say damaged toilet blocks and 140 seats broken in violence earlier this month will cost £9,000 to repair.

Waterpipes and cisterns were ripped off walls at the Kenilworth Road ground.

The club is working with police to find who was responsible but said lessons would be learnt from the trouble.

Police costs and vandalism meant income from Luton Town's near-full house against Oxford United was one of the lowest of the season for home games.

Seats will need to be replaced and toilet blocks repaired after the damage, which happened on 9 February.

Boisterous fans

Gary Sweet, from the club, said the police were involved and said everyone needed to work together.

He said: "Most of the damage was in the home end which is very disappointing. There is no condoning this.

"It is ridiculous when Luton Town supporters are damaging their own club's property and it's especially annoying since most of them know our financial state.

"Every club has its boisterous fans. We've met with police, stewards, fans' groups and lobbied feedback from individual supporters to get everyone on the same side to deal with the problem."

Grimsby Town - Lincoln City - 20/02/2010

Source : Grimsby Telegraph

Five fans arrested at match

FIVE football fans were arrested at Grimsby Town’s derby game with Lincoln City at Blundell Park on Saturday.

Four Mariners supporters and one Lincoln fan were arrested for one pitch incursion offence, three public order incidents and one assault.

The League Two Lincolnshire derby finished 2-2 on the pitch, but trouble flared off it between rival fans in the first half.

Supporters from both sides charged at each other after Mariners striker Lee Peacock levelled the score at 1-1 in the 38th minute.

Lincolnshire Police’s deputy football intelligence officer, PC Karl Williams, said: "There was disorder after the game at Blundell Park and there was some sort of incident in the ground where two sets of fans ran at each other and were separated by a fence."

A Humberside Police spokesman added the number of arrests was significantly lower than expected and the operation, which involved about 85 officers, had been "satisfactory".

Thailand : Muang Thong United - Thai Port - King's Trophy - 20/02/2010

Source : news.asiaone.com

Bloody clash between football fans at Thai Stadium

Police are reviewing video footage of the bloody clash between football fans at Supachalasai Stadium so it can bring the hooligans to justice.

Muang Thong United and Thai Port were playing for the King's Trophy on Saturday.

Many spectators were hurt in the melee and five of them have already lodged complaints with the police.

"The victims have received minor injuries," Colonel Paisan Leusomboon, superintendent of Pathum Wan Police Station, said yesterday.

Four of the victims who came forward had supported Muang Thong United, while the other one counted Thai Port as his favourite team.

Paisan said the police investigation would focus on the agitators who started the attacks on others.

"We will ask the court to approve arrest warrants," he said.

A conviction would bring two years in jail and/or Bt4,000 (S$170) fine.

Paisan vowed to proceed with the case quickly since so many people had their feelings let down.

"This is a traditional match and it's the competition for the King's Trophy," he said. "Football fans should demonstrate sportsmanship."

The Sports Authority of Thailand could also file a complaint because some property at its stadium was damaged, he added.

Violence mars King's Trophy match

Fans injured after clashes triggered by Port supporters who invade pitch

Violence marred the King's Trophy match between Thai Premier League champions Muang Thong United and FA Cup winners Thai Port at Supachalasai stadium yesterday.

Several people were injured after clashes triggered by Port supporters who threw firecrackers and objects on to the pitch after Muang Thong scored their second goal.

Play was stopped when Muang Thong were leading 2-0 as Port refused to resume play to shoulder responsibility for the incident. The competition itself was also hit by harsh tackles.

The Kirins were declared the winners in the traditional match before the new season starts between the league and Cup champions. The new league season kicks off on March 13.

The match was played before His Majesty the King's representative. After a scoreless draw in the first half, Muang Thong went ahead in the 66th minute after new signing Kone Mohamed of Ivory Coast found the net.

Port then piled pressure on the league champions but Muang Thong goalkeeper Kawin Thamasatchanan was in good form.

Ten minutes before time, Muang Thong got their second goal when Dagno Siaka headed the ball home from close range.

Port fans then invaded the pitch and seized a Muang Thong flag prompting their fans to go on to the pitch to fight with Port supporters.

Several people were hospitalised.

Sheffield Wednesday yobs' football ban - 23/02/2010

Source : Sheffield Telegraph

TWO Sheffield Wednesday football hooligans involved in a catalogue of 20 offences stretching back a decade have been banned from attending matches for three years.
Shaun Jones, aged 37, committed seven offences and Nathan Orwin, aged 28, carried out 13, which ranged from running on to the pitch to fighting.

Prosecutor Trisha Stearl told Sheffield Magistrates' Court Jones' offences stretch from July 2003 to February 2009 and included fighting opposing fans when Wednesday played Burnley on February 28 2009.

Jones was also among a group of 30-50 thugs who stormed into the Joseph Brammah pub in Barnsley looking for opposing fans and threw glass bottles when Wednesday played away at Oakwell on January 16 2009.

And on December 30 2006, when Wednesday were again away at Barnsley, Jones approached an opposing fan at the turnstiles with his teeth and fists clenched and hurled abuse at him.

Orwin's offences stretch from January 2000 to December 26, 2009, and included running on to the pitch when Wednesday played at Bradford City on October 23 2004.

On December 26 2009, when Wednesday were at home to Newcastle United, Orwin approached two Newcastle fans with his chest puffed out and his arms by his side making a 'come on' gesture.

During the game he made a slashing gesture with his hand across his throat towards the fans and mouthed "come on outside" while beckoning them with his hands.

And on August 30, 2008, when Wednesday were away at Swansea City he was seen approaching a pub and making threats to Swansea fans. Following a goal during the game he attempted to climb and tear down the mesh which separated the two sets of supporters.

Jones, of Dodworth Road, Barnsley and Orwin, of Loxley New Road, Sheffield, both accepted orders, which ban them from attending any organised football match until February 4 2013.

District Judge Sheila Driver said: "Do you even get chance to watch football among all this?"

Dad attacked on train by West Ham fans - 24/02/2010

Source : Reading Post

Four West Ham fans were arrested after an assault on a dad returning home on a train after a day out with his family.

The 46-year-old from Newport had to be taken to hospital in Reading on Saturday night with cuts to his face after the attack on the train.

Sergeant John Angell of British Transport Police, based at Reading Station, said it was "a really nasty attack."

The man was travelling home with his wife and two children on the 19.45 Paddington to Newport train after a day out in London visiting the museums.

Sgt Angell added: “They [the fans] were drunk and shouting and throwing beer cans about. The victim challenged them about their behaviour and he was attacked.”

The men punched him several times on the head.

Three of the men were from Reading – aged 20, and 28 from Southcote and one aged 24 from Central Reading – and the fourth aged 26 was from Newbury. They were arrested and have been bailed to attend Loddon Valley police station on Friday, March 5.

Blackpool fans banned for Deepdale flares - 23/02/2010

Source : Lancashire Evening Post

Three Blackpool supporters have been banned from football matches for three years after setting off flares in the stands at Deepdale.
Smoke billowed from the Bill Shankly Kop during the derby between Preston and Blackpool on February 13.

One youngster was burnt on the face as three men tried to put out the burning torches.

Now Stuart Parkinson, Kevin Holland and Ryan Lord have been told to stay away from matches and pay a total of £1,290.

Before the match police received intelligence that a group of well-known troublemakers, the Blackpool Muckers, were planning to bring flares to the match.

More than 100 police officers were working on the day of the derby, carrying out searches and trying to prevent trouble breaking out in the clash between the rivals.

PC Paul Elliott, Lancashire Constabulary's Football Intelligence Officer, told Preston Magistrates: "Extra resources were put on the turnstiles to search fans to eliminate flares being put up."

But he said around 2pm two large plumes of smoke were seen burning in the upper tiers of the Kop, where the ceiling was at its lowest, "equivalent to around 15 to 30 candle power".

He said intelligence linked Parkinson, 20, and Lord, 20, to the Muckers, identified as being high risk supporters in Home Office terminology.

He added: "Serious injury and substantial disorder was prevented by the police officers and stewards on duty."

All three men were arrested and pleaded guilty to possessing a flare in the area of a designated sporting match.

James Ball, defending, said all three men were life-long Blackpool supporters and "were not aware it was illegal" to set off flares in the stands, having seen it during European Cup matches on TV.

But PC Elliott said: "One flare could be written off as a prank or an act of stupidity.

"To light a second flare was a blatant disregard to the safety of their fellow supporters."

Parkinson, of Midgeland Road, Blackpool, Lord, of Lyndon Avenue, Thornton Cleveleys and Holland, 20, of Mayfair Road, Blackpool, have been banned from entering an area surrounding Bloomfield Road Football Ground for four hours before or after a football match.

They are also barred from entering the Bloomfield and George pubs four hours either side of a match, or from going within two miles of any Blackpool FC away fixtures, for three years.

Parkinson was fined £350, Lord fined £290 and Holland fined £350.
All three must pay £85 court costs and £15 Victims' Surcharge payments.

'Over-excited' Norwich City fan banned for three years - 24/02/2010

Source : eveningnews24.co.uk

A Norwich football fan who got “over excited” when watching a match and jumped into an out-of-bounds area at Carrow Road has been banned from football matches in England and Wales for three years.

Under the banning order Daniel Myers, 20, from Quebec Road, Thorpe Hamlet, is also banned from being within the inner ring road in Norwich for three hours before and six hours after kick-off on match days.

Myers, whose season ticket was seized after the incident, appeared for sentencing at Norwich Magistrates' Court yesterday after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to going on to the playing area at Carrow Road on October 24 last year.

Prosecuting, Angela Biston said Myers jumped over the perimeter fence onto the perimeter track - at the Thorpe infill between the main and Barclay stands - when Chris Martin scored for Norwich against Swindon Town. It was the only goal of the match.

She said: “He was immediately detained and was caught on CCTV. He was known to police and stewards who identified him. He was arrested and said in interview that he went over the barrier because he was 'over excited'.

“Asked what he hoped to achieve, he said: 'Nothing, it was just the passion of the game'.”

Myers entered a guilty plea last November and the intervening period had been taken up with whether he would be subject to a football banning order, she said.

“Daniel is not now contesting making the order,” she added.

“He has been spoken to a number of times by Norwich football intelligence officer, Andy King, and he has been ejected from football grounds in the past. He is on the high-risk group of fans football intelligence officers keep an eye on.

“And despite his bail conditions not to be within the city centre with three hours of a match, he was seen by a police officer on Saturday, when Norwich played Southampton, and he will be back before the courts for breaching those conditions.”

In mitigation, Gavin Cowe said his client, who is an A-Level student at City College Norwich, had no previous convictions for serious disorder at football matches.

Mr Cowe said: “Mr Myers has been seen at various times and various places, but he's not a ringleader and no specific violence has been used by him.”

Myers was fined £65 plus a £15 victim surcharge but no order for costs was made.

Football intelligence officer Andy King, who attended sentencing, said: “This shows again that partnership work between Norfolk Constabulary and Norwich City FC is working well. And that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Newcastle football yob banned from all games - 24/02/2010

Source : Evening Chronicle

Season 09/10 - February - Page 3 Davidoakley541523561

THIS is the latest Toon hooligan to be given the boot.

David Oakley and his band of soccer thugs have followed the Magpies home and away in search of a scrap.

Police identified him as a member of United’s hooligan firm the Gremlins and applied for a football banning order against him.

Now, Oakley, 45, of Westfield Avenue, Brunswick, Newcastle, has been barred from all games in England and Wales for three years and from entering Newcastle city centre on match days.

Supt Steve Neill said: “It is Northumbria Police’s aim that all genuine fans attending football matches in the North East are able to enjoy the day and participate in supporting their teams in a safe and friendly environment.

“Those individuals who intend to detract from the experience will be robustly targeted with all legislation at our disposal, including the use of football banning orders and this case is a good example of that.”

Oakley was banned at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court after a document outlining his links to other notorious hooligans was presented by PC Steve Graham.

The incidents he has been involved in include:

Newcastle United vs Manchester United, February 23, 2008:

Oakley was among a group of Toon supporters that waited at Central Station for Manchester United fans to arrive by train. He was recorded on film shouting abuse at them as they were given a police escort to St James’ Park. Oakley was seen following the Red Devils’ supporters with fellow soccer yob James Young and Norman Short, who have also been banned, as they moved along Barrack Road.

Newcastle United vs Sunderland, April 20, 2008:

Oakley was recorded on film as part of a group that waited for Black Cats supporters to arrive off a train at Central Station. He was seen in the presence of Norman Short, now banned, and was recorded gesturing towards their opponents.

Doncaster Rovers vs Newcastle United, July 26, 2008:

Oakley travelled with a number of known yobs to Doncaster, where they were all spotted in Yates Bar at 10.30am, ahead of the 3pm kick-off. Among those with him were James Young, Stephen Wallace Stephen Hird, Gary Hewitson, Andrew Moffitt and Norman Short, all of whom have either previously been banned or are currently subject to football banning orders.

Newcastle United vs Hull City, September 13, 2008:

Oakley was first seen in Rafferty’s bar, on Pink Lane, an hour-and-a-half before kick-off, with a number of notorious yobs who have been banned from the game, including Paul Peet, Simon Chollerton, Stuart Watson and Ian Kapke. After becoming aware that police hooligan spotters were monitoring them, the group began to split up and head to different bars around the city centre, which coincided with Hull City risk supporters travelling along nearby Westgate Road. Some based themselves in Yates Wine Lodge, on Grainger Street, with others in Fleet Street, Pudding Chare, as the Hull contingent started drinking in the Union Rooms, which is between the two. After the game, Oakley was part of a large group of Newcastle risk supporters that had gathered at Tilley’s bar, on Westgate Road, with officers forming the opinion they were there in anticipation of more than 20 Hull hooligans walking past on their way to Central Station from St James’ Park.

The atmosphere was described by one spotter as “very volatile” and further police resources were requested. The PC had told one group of Hull fans: “Walk away, because these people will attack you.”

A few minutes later, Oakley and Norman Short were seen standing separately and as a group of 20 males on a stag do began walking past, Oakley approached one with both fists clenched by his side and his face scowling.

On footage recorded of the incident, the PC can be heard saying: “They’re having a pop there, they’re having a pop, David Oakley’s having a pop.” Oakley ended up being arrested to prevent a breach of the peace.

Middlesbrough vs Newcastle United, November 29, 2008:

A Middlesbrough-based Chief Inspector received reports of 120 Newcastle United supporters, including up to 60 hooligans, arriving into the town at around 2.25pm on a train after spending the previous two hours in Hogan’s pub, in Darlington.

He allocated extra resources to get the large group straight to the Riverside stadium but later learned about 25 risk supporters, including Oakley, had delayed their departure from Darlington and continued drinking at Hogan’s.

That coincided with Middlesbrough thugs gathering in a bar near to the town’s main station, in a bar that is en route to the Teessiders’ home ground. After eventually arriving in Middlesbrough, the Magpies mob headed straight for the pub where their rivals were and the two groups clashed.

Newcastle United vs Leicester City, August 31, 2009:

This match was televised and at around 7pm, a PC went to Tilley’s bar, in Westgate Road, following a call to police. On arrival he spoke to the duty manager, who said a group of males wearing Stone Island, Burberry and Aquascutum clothing had entered the bar and had been shouting “We are the Gremlins”.

The duty manager also said customers in the bar had advised him that they had also been talking about trouble after the match. The majority of the group then left, leaving two men including one matching the description of Oakley.

The man identified was also reported to have put a member of the public in a headlock outside the bar, before making off down Pink Lane.

Oakley’s associate, Norman Short, shouted at a police officer: “Is it because you ******* know I am a Gremlin?” Oakley was eventually arrested to prevent a breach of the peace.
