Another police brutality in Europe. Police beaten Olimpija fans and send them back with train, when they came near Maribor. It is possible, that they were affraid of bigger incidents and they chose smarter option. They arrested 14 Olimpija Hooligans.

| The Iranian football season kicks off to silence for Esteghlal Tehran and Sepahan Esfahan - 07/08/2009
Source: http://www.demotix.com/news/iranian-football-season-kicks-silence-esteghlal-tehran-and-sepahan-esfahan
The Iranian football league season started this week with a whimper for two teams in particular. Although Esteghlal of Tehran in Blue kit beat Sepahan of Esfahan in the yellow kit 1-0, their first game and win of the League Bartar season was played out in an empty Azadi Stadium, Tehran, without the presence of chanting fans as is usually the case.
The previous season, Esteghlal's fans in the same fixture had hurled abuse at the referee, which resulted in a ban against them. However, rumours have persisted that the real reason for the ban are more to do with the current tense atmosphere following Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's controversial inauguration on the 5th of August, and the number of protests post-election in support of the reformist candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi.
Azadi stadium at full capacity can hold up to 100,000 football fans.

| Bolton Wanderers - Hibernian Edinburgh - Friendly game - 08/08/2009
Source : The Bolton News
Violence erupts following Bolton Wanderers game against Hibs
RIOT police were called in when football fans clashed after Bolton’s pre-season friendly against Hibernian.
Angry supporters caused havoc in Middlebrook Retail Park after they were kicked out of the Reebok Stadium on Saturday.
Only minutes later, a large number of police officers descended on Stoneclough Road near Kearsley Station, where scores of fans were fighting in the street.
Staff at Middlebrook said a mob of angry fans, understood to be Hibernian supporters, punched a man in the back of the head before chasing another man who tried to help him.
The rampaging horde of about 20 people smashed windows at Birthdays and The Works before trashing displays near the entrance to the bookshop and throwing them into the store.
The man fled to the nearby O2 shop to escape his attackers.
All three shops locked their doors to protect shoppers, and staff at The Works activated a panic alarm, which brought security and police to the scene.
Assistant Emma Byrne said: “Someone was punched in the back of the head, and saw him go down and hit the floor.
“Someone tried to pick him up, then about 20 people came towards him and it just kicked off.
“They picked all these baskets up and threw them all over the shop. They were literally just going for anyone. It was very scary.”
Meanwhile, outside Kearsley Station, a group of about 40 Hibernian fans were returning to their minibus when fighting broke out.
Lee Charlton, landlord of the Hare and Hounds, said about 100 people arrived in black taxis to attack the Scottish fans.
He said: “We’ve been washing blood off the walls outside, but we never saw anyone get hit. We just locked the doors and went upstairs and watched out the window.
“All these taxis turning up didn’t make any sense. It’s a quiet village down here, and stuff like this doesn’t normally happen.
“I’m told it was all pre-arranged - organised firms from Oldham, Bolton and Manchester to come and fight against Hibs and Celtic fans.”
He said the Hibs fans’ minibus was vandalised to stop them escaping. Two people were arrested at the scene.
Celtic and St Mirren were also playing in the North West on Saturday, causing a large influx of Scottish fans to the area.
Police had been tipped off that trouble was planned, and undercover spotters were employed to look out for early warning signs.
Trouble started during the second half of Jussi Jaaskelainen’s testimonial game, when the atmosphere turned sour as fans’ taunts turned into sectarian chanting, and dozens of rowdy supporters were escorted from the ground by police.
Det Chf Insp George Fawcett said: “Police responded quickly to quell the disorder and additional police resources were brought in from other areas.
“As a result of doing that, two people were arrested. Order was restored quickly and the fans dispersed peacefully.“ Middlebrook marketing manager Heather Crank-Ingham said: “All the stores acted quickly and locked their doors to keep shoppers safe.”
After the match, fans wrote about the incidents on internet forums.
One Bolton fan wrote: “We were in the card shop and all of a sudden some security ran in shouting 'get to the back, now’ so we did.
“Two seconds later the windows cave in with Scots being rowdy and that. Walked out later and saw more of the same down the row.”
A Hibs fan wrote on another forum: “In all fairness it seemed to be harmless banter. However, after half time it seemed to get a bit more nasty.
“The police threw out a few Hibs and Bolton fans and there was a minor incident in the Hibs end. Outside the ground I saw the Bolton fans shouting up at the Hibs fans that were on the hill.
“To the 98 per cent of Hibs fans that attended today - well done, you done your club proud. To the other 2 per cent - you are idiots and belong back in the 1980s.”

Troubles broke out in the city center and inside the Reebok stadium for this testimonial game.
Bolton fan view:
However, the overall atmosphere was piss poor - if you are any of those racist pigs and idiots in the so-called Krazy Korner, who were starting fights and xenophobic chanting, you bring a bad name to all of us, it was a bloody friendly, for flicks sake, we were there to honour the career of a loyal player, not to chant about how much we hate the scots - and fighting with them after the game? Grow the flick up, please...if you were a Hibs fan in the corner opposite, everything above applies to you too, don't come back - if you were a Hibs fan sitting elsewhere, I can only apologise for our pikey and chav contingent
Hibs fan view:
Was at the game, during the game about 100 hibs and about 100 Bolton fans were giving it load in the corner. In all fairness it seemed to be harmless banter. However, after half time it seemed to get a bit more nasty.
The police threw out a few hibs and bolton fans and there was a minor incident in the hibs end.
Outside the ground I saw the Bolton fans outside the ground shouting up at the Hibs fans tat were on the hill, however at this point no fighting. In all fairness the policing was quite poor and after the game there was no segrigation.

Crowd Trouble
Just got back from the game which to be honest was very dull and I'm a bit gutted for Jussi. Most people in the stadium were looking over to the corner all game to see what was going on down there as it was more interesting.
I wonder why Bolton still invite Catholic teams down from Scotland for testimonials as it always seems to be a problem (anyone remember Jimmy Phillips' vs Celtic?).
Why do Bolton fans seems to get involved with the Catholic clubs or is it just simply because they are from another country and nothing to do with religion?
****
It was mixture of both fans being mindless idiots. I sat in the east stand lower in the middle of it all. Very dissapointing, especially for jussi.
However, a total error from the police was to blame for the events afterwards. As we left, they allowed the Hibs fans to leave at the same time, so as i walked through the big door, i was met by about 50-100 hibs fans charging into the stand. If it wasnt for the quick thinking of the mounted police there could have been some serious problems. Lots of kids around.
Its a shame but thats what you get with drunk young men. Perhaps playing Hibs, a team well known for their hooliganism, was not the greatest of ideas for a family fun day / testimonial!

| Norwich City - Colchester - 08/08/2009Source : timesonline.co.uk TWO fans were arrested after charging on to the pitch in protest during Norwich City’s stunning 7-1 defeat at Carrow Road. ********************************************** Source : dailymail.co.uk Furious fans go for Gunn amid Norwich seven-goal humiliation Hundreds of Norwich supporters demonstrated angrily outside the Carrow Road stadium after this battering by Colchester, the heaviest home defeat in the club’s history. As they gathered by the main entrance, roaring abuse at majority shareholder Delia Smith, other directors and manager Bryan Gunn, chants of ‘Sack the board’, ‘Delia Out’ and ‘This is embarrassing’ rang out. Although police prevented things getting out of hand, the protest continued long into the evening. Earlier, relegated Norwich had kicked off with high hopes of a quick return to the Championship, the bookies making them second favourites for promotion. But after less than 20 minutes fans were already streaming out. When Colchester scored their fourth after 22 minutes, Carrow Road erupted. Dozens more began leaving, while two incensed supporters got on to the pitch and raced towards Gunn, one of them ripping up his £350 season ticket and throwing it towards the manager. Stewards and police dragged the men away and referee Rob Shoebridge halted the game for almost five minutes in a bid to restore some calm. But what was being witnessed was perhaps the most humiliating single match in Norwich’s history. Gunn said: ‘It’s one of the worst 90 minutes I’ve endured in my career. But I’ve had abuse and coins thrown at me as a player and I understand that these things happen when people get frustrated. Fortunately, stewards protected me. Hopefully, it will just be a blip. ‘All I can do is apologise to our supporters.’ | |

A Slovan Bratislava fan who suffered a head injury before Wednesday's return leg of the Champions League third qualifying round in Athens between Olympiakos Piraeus and Slovan Bratislava has left Greece along with other Slovak fans, Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Peter Stano told TASR on Thursday.
According to Stano, the woman was injured by Greek fans and had to be treated in hospital, where she recovered enough to return to Slovakia.
Stano added that a Slovak consul was at the stadium during the game to help ensure the security of Slovak fans and to communicate with the local police.

| Gillingham - Swindon Town - 08/08/2009Source : Kent Online Gillingham’s 5-0 victory over Swindon was marred by trouble after the match. There was some fighting among the fans during the Gills’ League 1 opener, resulting in eight Swindon supporters and two Blues fans being ejected from the Priestfield Stadium. But the majority of the trouble took place outside the ground. Police did their best to separate the supporters after the final whistle but there were some clashes between fans. Officers acted quickly to keep the two sides apart - forming lines across the streets and using police dogs to disperse the crowds. Some Swindon fans were escorted into Gillingham railway station by officers. A police helicopter circled the ground both before and after the match and some roads were closed to traffic. The kick-off was at 12.30pm, after Kent Police requested to bring the match forward to keep trouble to a minimum. But it is thought some pubs in Gillingham opened early. It is not known how many arrests were made. | |

Police hailed success of operation
POLICE were today hailing the success of their operation after just nine people were arrested following Saints' first match of the season.
They were detained for a variety of offences, including assaulting police officers, following Saints' 1-1 draw with Millwall at St Mary's yesterday.
Hampshire Police staged a joint operation with the Metropolitan Police and British Transport Police because of the bad reputation of Millwall fans.
Chief Inspector Andy Bottomley said the match was followed by what he described as "some minor incidents of disorder".
He added: "There was no intelligence to indicate that the disorder was pre-organised."
Witnesses reported scuffles in the city centre including a fist fight in High Street.
A police spokesman said details of any charges resulting from the arrests would be revealed later.

| 33 arrested over city demo clashes - 09/08/2009Source: http://www.mirror.co.uk Police have arrested 33 people during a city centre clash between anti-fascists and protesters against Islamic fundamentalism. There were angry scenes when union flag-waving demonstrators with the English and Welsh Defence League and Casuals United came into contact with Unite Against Fascism marchers in Birmingham. Two people were injured, according to West Midlands Police, and there were several reports of criminal damage. A force spokesman said the majority of the arrests were for disorder. Scores of officers were involved in policing the rival protests, which had gathered near Birmingham's Bullring shopping complex. Gary Nichols watched the disturbances from his city centre flat and said he was unable to go outside for about two and a half hours. He told the BBC: "It started off with a group of white guys who were chanting, 'England, England'. I thought they were just football fans, but then a larger group of black and Asian people turned up and it all kicked off. "You had people burning the Union flag. People were being kicked - some of them weren't anything to do with the protests. It all seemed to be very systematic - groups were arriving in cars and getting involved in the violence." Broken banners were left scattered on the ground outside the Bullring following the disorder. West Midlands Police said they believed the English and Welsh Defence League and Casuals United protesters gathered after communicating on social networking sites. | |

| Portsmouth FC - Glasgow Rangers - Friendly game - 08/08/2009
Source: The News
Violence flares between Pompey and Rangers supporters
Pompey and Rangers supporters have clashed following the clubs pre-season friendly. Fans threw bottles at one another outside the entrance to Fratton Station in Goldsmith Avenue after Pompey beat the Scottish side this afternoon.
Despite an upbeat pre-game atmosphere which saw fans drinking side-by-side in the city's pubs, the violence flared about an hour after the final whistle.
Fans from both sides were reportedly involved in the clash, which centred around Smiffy's Bar on Goldsmith Avenue, which was packed with post-match drinkers.
Witnesses at the scene described how drinkers were left bloodied by the broken glass and fighting.
Once police arrived, the road had to be closed to allow them to break-up the fighting and disperse the crowd.
The scene was cleared and the roads running smoothly again shortly before 7pm.
The bar was closed for the rest of the evening.
Several arrests were made, but police have yet to disclose how many and what the people were arrested for.
Meanwhile, nine arrests were made at Saints' first game of the season, played at home against Millwall.
A police spokeswoman described the match as 'passing without significant incident.'

Source: forum
When City scored, there were about 20- 30 fans who chose to celebrate the goal by running on the pitch, and a few of these fans were then arrested. This also happened when Leeds scored and people again chose to celebrate in the same way as a few Exeter fans. However, these people where taken away, yet not arrested, unlike six Exeter fans. There was also a Leeds fan acting aggressively towards the Leeds police. But funnily enough, he wasn't arrested, and he was let off free, unlike the six City fans who had to wait around in cells for 3-4 hours and later spent longer in the Leeds city police station.

| Norwich - Colchester: Two due in court after Carrow Road pitch invasion - 09/08/2009Source: eveningnews24.co.uk Two fans run on the pitch within minutes of Colchester scoring their fourth goal. Photo: Adrian Judd. Two men will appear in court tomorrow charged with invading the pitch during Norwich City's disastrous first match of the season. Amid mounting anger, the men ran on to the pitch from the Snake Pit area, within moments of the fourth Colchester goal going in, and were able to get to within yards of the dug-out where they threw, what appeared to be season tickets, at manager Bryan Gunn. They were tackled by stewards and other officials before eventually being taken down the tunnel where they were arrested by Norfolk police officers for pitch encroachment. Club chief executive David McNally is expected to make a statement about the incident tomorrow but the men could face a lifetime ban from the club. Harry Mitchell, police spokesman, said: “Two men were arrested at the match and charged with pitch encroachment. They will appear at Norwich Magistrates Court this morning.” Following the turbulent match, which ended in a record 7-1 home defeat for city, five other men were arrested by British Transport Police who boarded the train at Diss following complaints of disorder. The men, who are thought to be Colchester supporters, have been bailed pending further inquiries. Hundreds of supporters left Carrow Road early as Gunn's team went five goals down to Colchester at half-time and booing could be heard as far away as the Castle Museum. Fan Nigel Greengrass, who left even before the half-time whistle was blown, said: “It's embarrassing; it's like a sick joke. I was full of optimism before the game but now I am absolutely devastated. “I am proud of this city and proud of my upbringing as a city fan but this makes me want to hand in my season ticket. I'm finished with the football club.” His sentiments were echoed by many of the fans, who had travelled from far and wide for the match. Michael Ramm, who travelled from Preston, described the play as “diabolical”. “It was as if the Norwich players had never met before on a pitch. I have been a life-long supporter and come to as many matches as possible, even though I have moved away. It's a long way to travel each time and I'm not sure I will make the effort again.” When the full-time whistle had blown, many fans gathered outside of the stadium where they shouted “what a load of rubbish” near the directors' entrance in the City Stand. | |

Source : Fleetwood Today
Thirteen suspected football hooligans are to appear in court accused of taking part in rioting following a European cup final in Manchester. All the suspects - 11 adults and two juveniles - have been charged with violent disorder following Rangers' Uefa Cup Final defeat in May last year.
Thousands of drunken hooligans fought running battles with police as they rampaged through Manchester city centre in more than five hours of trouble following the final on May 14.
An estimated 150,000 Rangers fans travelled to the city for the club's match with Zenit St Petersburg at the City of Manchester Stadium.
In separate incidents, two police officers became separated from their units, surrounded by hooligans, knocked to the ground and kicked and stamped on, during the violence.
The suspects scheduled to appear in court are Greg McKenna, 22, of East Kilbride, Lanarkshire; Brian McVicar, 19, of East Kilbride; Gordon Forrest, 44, of Bearsden, Glasgow; James Bell, 42, of Cumbernauld, Glasgow; Thomas Murphy, 27, of Greenock; David McCullough, 20, of Burnage, Manchester; David Annette, 34, of Chorley, Lancashire; John Saunders, 31, of Cumbernauld, Glasgow; Michael Hindle, 21, Leyland, Lancashire; and two youths, aged 16 and 17, both from Glasgow, all charged with violent disorder.
Scott McSeveney, 21, of Shotts, North Lanarkshire, and Mark Stoddart, 25, from Glasgow, are both charged with violent disorder and also assault on a police officer.
All are due before Manchester City Magistrates' Court.

Source : stroudnewsandjournal.co.uk
Troublemakers not welcome at Cheltenham Town football games
On Saturday 8th August Cheltenham Town played the first home fixture of the new Football League season.
Cheltenham police carried out the usual operation for this fixture.
At around 2.30pm officers were called to deal with a minibus full of Grimsby supporters that were drunk and acting in a disorderly manner in Bishops Cleeve.
Police used powers available to them under Section 27 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act to exclude the vehicle and its occupants from Gloucestershire.
Officers from the Road Policing Unit then monitored the vehicle until it left the County.
Two people from the minibus were also arrested and subsequently charged with public order offences.
A 40-year-old man and 50-year-old man, both from Grimsby, were charged with being drunk and disorderly.
They are due to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates Court in September.
PC Mark Smith who was leading the operation said; "We welcome any football fans to the county who want to come and support their team as well as enjoy the fantastic facilities that the town has to offer.
"But we hope this incident shows that any disorderly behaviour will not be tolerated.
"We will use all the powers available to us to ensure that they are dealt with appropriately and do not spoil the game for the majority of law-abiding fans."
