FC Utrecht-Newcastle United cancelled - 7/14/2009

Source: VoetbalPrimeur.nl

The friendly match envisaged on July 26th between the FC Utrecht and Newcastle United was cancelled by fear of incidents between English supporters of Newcastle and Sunderland which dedicates an unbounded hatred. Indeed, Sunderland must take part in the tournament of Ajax Amsterdam, also bringing together the teams of Benfica and Atlético Madrid between the July 24th and 26th. On this subject, the mayor of Amsterdam, Job Cohen, wished to make cancel the participation of Sunderland because of proximity of the two Dutch cities.

Fears as football hooligans plan Muslim extremist protest in Birmingham - 19/07/2009

Source : Sunday Mercury

POLICE are being urged to ban a “sinister” new football group – said to include football hooligans – from staging a Midland protest against Muslim extremists.

Casuals United was set up after British soldiers were abused by Islamic radicals at a homecoming parade in Luton earlier this year.

The group allegedly includes trouble-makers from football clubs across the country, including Aston Villa, Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Casuals have already staged a number of protests against Muslim extremists around the UK, including on July 4 at Birmingham Bullring when a 100-strong crowd was held back by riot police.

Fears

Now the group are planning to return to the second city for a fresh rally on August 8 – leading to fears of violence.

West Midlands Police have refused to comment.

Last night, Perry Barr MP Khalid Mahmood urged police to block the event.

He said: “No matter what these groups say, people have to see that they have sinister intentions and only want to promote violence on our streets. This is the kind of thing we saw in the 1970s when the Far Right came to prominence and caused riots in our cities.”

The Casuals were previously called the United People of Luton, but are said to have switched name to bring in new members from Britain’s football hooligan “firms”.

The group, linked to the right wing English, Scottish and Welsh Defence Leagues, are organising themselves on the web, including social networking sites.

They first banded together for a protest in March after Muslim extremists abused 2nd Battallion Royal Anglian soldiers at the Luton homecoming parade.

Balaclava-clad thugs were involved in skirmishes with police and racist chanting as they hijacked a peaceful protest by the March for England group.

Nine arrests were made.

Yet in an e-mail to the Sunday Mercury, a Casuals member calling himself England Reshuffle denied the group was racist.

He said: “I along with thousands of other like-minded people are coming into Birmingham to protest against the Islamic terrorists.”

The Casuals are also said to be planning to target Birmingham airport following unsubstantiated allegations that British soldiers were forced to change their uniforms on the tarmac in case they offended Muslims.

But John Morris, head of the airport’s corporate affairs, said: “What has been said about our treatment of the armed forces is lies.”

Millwall & Hull: shop the yobs - 20/07/2009

Source: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2543816/Cops-need-help-catching-32-FA-Cup-hooligans.html?OTC-RSS&ATTR=News

POLICE called on Sun readers last night to help track down Britain's Most Wanted football hooligans.

Season 09/10 - July - Page 2 Wallv

The 32 yobs pictured in this rogue's gallery were among 150 who brought terror to a Hull City v Millwall FA Cup tie.

Children cowered as rival thugs hurled seats, bottles and coins in Hull's KC Stadium.

The charity Crimestoppers and police have joined with The Sun to get them banned from the terraces for LIFE.

The snaps will appear on Crimestoppers' Most Wanted website from today, alongside murderers, rapists and drug dealers.

It is the first time footie yobs have featured on the site.

Stormed

Hooligans from League One Millwall went on a two-day orgy of violence after travelling from London to Premier League side Hull in January.

Fighting first erupted in a Hull city centre bar on Friday evening.

On the match day, Saturday, January 24, Hull fans stormed a pub occupied by Millwall supporters.

During the game, Millwall louts ripped up seats in the North Stand and began throwing them, along with coins and bottles, at Hull fans in the East Stand.

Hull supporters retaliated by hurling the missiles back.

After the match, which Hull won 2-0, yobs ran amok in a shopping centre and threw bricks at coaches.

Crimestoppers' Director of Operations Dave Cording said: "We are urging the public to help the police by identifying these individuals.

"Unfortunately there still exists an unpleasant minority of fans whose intention is to cause criminal damage and incite violence.

"Any information passed to Crimestoppers is anonymous."

DO you know the yobs? Call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or complete an anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org

11 arrested after rival football gangs clashed at train station - 22/07/2009

Source : The Herald

A TOTAL of 11 people have been arrested in Plymouth and Exeter in connection with a violent organised football hooligan battle at a train station.
British Transport Police said that two gangs – thought to be rival Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City football team supporters – squared off at Exeter St Thomas Railway Station on June 27 and the arrests made on Tuesday following dawn raids in both cities.
Police said that bottles had been thrown in the fight and onlookers had witnessed the violent encounter, where one man was left unconscious.
Sgt Paul Curtis, of Plymouth's BTP team, said that a series of planned raids were carried out in homes in Plymouth and Exeter at about 6.30am on Tuesday.
BTP police and members of the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary joined forces to conduct the raids.
Sgt Curtis said they were in relation to the 'football-related violent disorder'.
He said: "Two rival groups of football fans had a meeting, the result of which saw one person left unconscious and another was arrested for the offence of assault.
"Interviews and enquiries led to raids on seven people's addresses in the Plymouth area. Six arrests were successful."
Sgt Curtis said that four homes in Exeter were also raided at the same time and four men were arrested – making a total of 10 in one morning.
All 10 – as well as the one arrested at the scene on June 27 – have been interviewed by police and have been placed on bail until September, pending further enquiries.
No ages or names have been released by the police, but Sgt Curtis said they are all white and aged between 17 and 40-years-old.
Sgt Curtis said the injuries caused at the fight – and the exact details of what took place – also can't yet be confirmed.
More than 40 BTP officers simultaneously attended the addresses on Tuesday to arrest 'the majority of those thought to have been involved in the incident'.
The incident, said the BTP, took place at about 7.45pm on Saturday June 27. They said that members of the public, railway staff and local residents witnessed the brawl at the railway station.
BTP said it was believed to be between a group of at least 14 rival Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle football fans.
After viewing CCTV footage, officers identified 11 men – four from Exeter and seven from Plymouth. Officers who attended their homes yesterday located 10 of the 11 men.
Enquiries are still ongoing to trace one man from Plymouth who was not located during Tuesday's operation, said the BTP.
Chief Inspector Kevin Marshall, of BTP, said: "This incident appears to have been pre-arranged disorder between two rival groups of football supporters, even though their teams had not played on June 27.
"Those who took part in this disorder should be left under no illusions that this type of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by British Transport Police or Devon and Cornwall Constabulary.
"Members of the public going about their everyday business should not have to witness groups of men fighting and throwing bottles.
"They can rest assured we will be doing our utmost to bring all of the offenders to justice and we will press for the strongest sentences available to be handed out by the courts."

Nine arrested over Forest match disorder - 21/07/2009

Source : This is Nottingham

NINE men have been arrested for their involvement in a disorder before a football match in Nottingham.
Officers from Notts Police made the arrests on Friday and Monday.
The disorder happened before the Nottingham Forest versus Wolverhampton Wanderers Championship match at the City Ground on March 21.
The nine men have been bailed pending further enquiries. If convicted, they could face a Football Banning Order preventing them from attending football fixtures for up to 10 years.
Insp Andy Berryman said: "Notts Police will apply for Football Banning Orders against those who seek to cause or engage in disorder, or who seek to spoil the enjoyment of the vast majority of people at football fixtures."
Notts Police currently have 65 people subject to Football Banning Orders.

Amsterdam police arrests soccer hooligans - 25/07/2009

Source: dutchamsterdam.nl

Amsterdam police on Saturday evening arrested eleven British soccer fans who were involved in a brawl.

Though the hooligans are thought to all be fans of British soccer club Sunderland, they were fighting among each other. The fight took place in front of a café in the Red Light District.

Six people were arrested for assault and battery, while five others were picked up because they did not carry valid identification.

The fans were in town because their club is participating in an Amsterdam football tournament. British club Newcastle United had originally been scheduled to play a pre-season friendly at Utrecht, 30 miles from Amsterdam. However, England’s Football Association forced the club to cancel that match over fears that fans of the arch rivals could end up fighting each other.

Amsterdam mayor Job Cohen had earlier demanded that Sunderland withdraw from the tournament in Amsterdam. Instead, the FA decided to give Sunderland priority over Newcastle United, because Sunderland’s application to play in Amsterdam was received first, the club had already sold tickets to its fans, and travel arrangements had been made.

Ujpest FC - Steaua Bucarest - 23/07/2009

Source : sportgeza.hu + budapesttimes.hu + nb1.hu

For the hate of the game

As has become customary over the last years, two of the four Hungarian soccer teams competing in various European Leagues have already said goodbye to their hopes of playing a game after autumn arrives.

Only a decade ago unwavering fans of domestic football would pray for at least one team staying in the competition long enough to play a game in the spring. Now the prayer goes out for one of them to stick around until September.

The fate of Europa League (EL, the successor of the UEFA Cup) contender Haladás was practically decided in the first leg two weeks ago when Sweden’s Elfsborg easily won 3-0 (the second leg ended in a scoreless draw last week).

The enemy of my enemy is my friend

It was Újpest, however, that received the most attention after fans found out that the Hungarian runner-up will meet Romanian Steaua Bucharest. Újpest lost the first leg 2-0 in Bucharest, but a banner made by Steaua supporters reading “How long does it take a Hungarian woman to s**t? 9 months” caused archrival Hungarian football gangs to temporarily join forces and await the arrival of Bucharest’s devotees.

The banner raised concerns over racism in Romania, with the National Discrimination Council launching an investigation and Romanian daily Adevarul issuing an apology in Hungarian on the front page of the paper. The paper said it was ashamed and “because we are a civilised nation, just like you, we kindly ask that you forgive us”.

Bomb hoax, fire bombs

The trouble in Budapest began the night before the game when, shortly after midnight, a hoax bomb threat was phoned through to the hotel at which Steaua’s players were staying, which nearly caused the game to be postponed by UEFA.

Despite promised attacks on Romanian supporters the game kicked off in relative calm. At halftime, however, the fireworks started, literally, when Újpest fans started tp throw fire bombs at the opposing side. Police and local security eventually restored order, and the second half began ten minutes late.
Unsurprisingly Hungarian fans had a message of their own to response to the Bucharest banner saying “How do you know that you are a gypsy? You speak Romanian”. Steaua eventually won the game 2-1 and went throuugh to the next round 4-1 on aggregate.

Police escort

After the game some Hungarian hooligans tried to attack the Romanian section, while others clashed with riot police outside the stadium. The two-front war eventually ended with police dispersing the crowd and putting the Steaua convoy on the road towards the border. Unfortunately the end of a long week in Hungarian-Romanian relations ended with a bus full of fans crashing into a Hungarian police minibus just before the border, seriously injuring four policemen and causing minor injuries to four more.

Honduras : Olimpia - Motagua - 26/07/2009

Source : euronews.net

Two killed as football fans clash in Honduras

In a country rocked by a political crisis, clashes after a game of football have left at least two people dead and more than a dozen others injured.

Police moved in amid violence between rival supporters following a derby match in the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa.

Two people were shot dead while 15 others needed hospital treatment, notably for gunshot wounds.

The game between rival teams Olimpia and Motagua ended in a goalless draw. But, outside the stadium, fans are said to have exchanged fire in a confrontation lasting ten minutes until police reinforcements arrived. Dozens of arrests were made.

There are no immediate signs that the soccer violence is related to Central America’s worst political crisis in 20 years. But Honduras has been on edge since its president, Manuel Zelaya, was ousted and thrown out of the country in a military coup last month.

Around 200 Hajduk fans arrested before Hajduk Zilina match

Around 200 Hajduk Split football fans were arrested and 15 injured in a clash with policemen yesterday (Thurs) in Bratislava.

Most of them should be released today, Hina news agency has reported.

Fans clashed with the policemen because they had refused to let them into a stadium despite that they had tickets.

Hajduk fans have been banned from two European away games, so the police could not let them watch the Hajduk – Zilina game, which angered them.

Hajduk fan-club head Stipe Lekic tried to convince the police they had a right to enter the stadium because they had bought tickets as individuals rather than as members of a fan club. When Lekic failed to convince the police, a fight began.

Hajduk fans had bought tickets from Slovaks friends, but, as soon as Slovak police learned about that, they cancelled such tickets.

Hajduk Fans to Be Expelled From Slovakia, Must Leave Within Two Days

The police intervention against fans of Croatian football club Hajduk Split before the UEFA Cup qualifying match with MSK Zilina on Thursday was the biggest such operation by security forces in the history of Slovak football in terms of the number of people detained - 230, said Police Force (PZ) vice-president Stanislav Jankovic at a press conference in Zilina on Friday.

According to Jankovic, the police will expel 219 Croatian fans from Slovakia. They will have to leave the country within two days and will be prohibited from entering the EU again for five years. Jankovic specified that 221 Croatians, five Slovenians, three Austrians and one Belgian were detained.

"We evaluated the intervention as legal, substantiated, appropriate and clearly with the use of all coercive means. During the intervention, 52 police officers and 18 foreigners were injured who then received treatment in Zilina and Cadca (Zilina region) hospitals, while dozens of others were treated for light injuries," said Jankovic, adding that approximately 650 police took part in the operation.

All fans of the Croatian club were prevented from entering the stadium before the match by the police because UEFA has imposed a blanket ban on all Hajduk Split supporters.

"The Hajduk fans attacked the police with stones from the railway embankment and then made their way to the railway station which they began to destroy. At the same time, several restaurants, cafes, shop windows, a bus, police cars and an emergency vehicle in Zilina were damaged as well," said Jankovic.

Curfew for Barrow AFC fan banned from Holker Street - 13/07/2009

Source : NW Evening Mail

A MAN banned from every football ground in England and Wales has had the terms of his community service order altered.

Brett David Cihlar, 37, of Lincoln Street, Barrow, is said to be unable to carry out unpaid work because of health problems.

So Furness magistrates substituted this with a night-time curfew as punishment for breaching their community order imposed last September.

The unemployed Cihlar had admitted failing without reasonable excuse to comply with the requirements of the order on June 8.

Patty Davies, representing the Probation Service, told the court on Thursday that they wanted the supervision side of the order to continue.

Mr Mike Graham, defending, said the removal of the unpaid work aspect was a result of his client’s health condition rather than any “wilful refusal” to do it. Mr Jim Dunn, presiding magistrate, told Cihlar the curfew was for Thursday, Friday and Saturdays from 7pm to 7am and involved electronic tagging.

And he added: “The football ban is still in place.”

Cihlar was the first Barrow AFC supporter to receive a football banning order.

He received the football ban and community order after heading a group of Bluebirds supporters who confronted Oxford United fans at the start of last season.

Cihlar had pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

Match ban for Town ‘fans’ - 14/07/2009

Source : Shropshire Star

These are the faces of the four Shrewsbury football hooligans who drunkenly swore at police after a football match and have been banned from attending games for a combined total of 13 years.

The quartet, aged between 23 and 37, admitted disorderly conduct following an incident on board a train travelling between Crewe and Shrewsbury following a match at Port Vale against Shrewsbury Town.

British Transport Police (BTP) today warned that football-related disorder would not be tolerated in any form.

Robert Jones, of Meadow Farm Drive, Mark Usher, of York Road and Kenneth Wilson, of Middlegate, all aged 37, appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court last week where they admitted using threatening words or behaviour during the incident on January 17.

Daniel Suter, 23, of Coton Mount, admitted two charges of using threatening words or behaviour during the same incident.

In addition to the banning orders, the four were also fined a total of £680 and ordered to pay prosecution costs totalling £600.

On January 17, Suter made lewd comments to a female BTP officer after she asked him to stop swearing while on board a rail service. He and a number of others remained in the Crewe area drinking before boarding the 9.12pm Crewe-Shrewsbury rail service.

Suter again came to the attention of BTP officers for repeatedly swearing and using threatening language.

During the same train journey, Jones, Wilson and Usher were also warned about their behaviour, which was described as aggressive.

Usher was heard swearing repeatedly as well as shouting “Kill the Bill”. All four, who were drunk at the time, were arrested at about 10pm at Shrewsbury Railway Station.

Sergeant John Caisley, of BTP’s Operational Support Unit, said: “With the new football season about to get under way, these sentences, which include football banning orders totalling 13 years, send out a clear message that disorder on the rail network will not be tolerated.

“BTP takes football-related violence extremely seriously. Anyone nvolved in disorder, anti-social behaviour or any kind of criminality will be detected.

“We will continue to work closely with colleagues from forces all over the country to exchange intelligence.”
