The episodes that unfolded were so serious that the final was almost cancelled! The incidents began with PAOK fans and continued with riots between supporters of the two teams. It all began on the PAOK fans' journey to the stadium: the newspaper Athletiki Echo wrote: ’Very early on, a large mass of PAOK fans smashed car windows and windscreens in Nea Filadelfia, Nea Ionia and Kalogreza. Then, when they reached the auxiliary stadium, they wreaked havoc and at the same time made vile gestures at the athletes training there. Inside the stadium, seats were ripped out before the match and one of the substitutes' benches was broken. Mr Savramis - the stadium manager - tried to cancel the match, but this was not possible and the illuminated panel was damaged to the tune of 100,000 drachmas, at PAOK's expense.
The damage caused amounted to 3,000,000 drachmas. The authorities also made 40 arrests, while 13 people were injured and numerous shop windows and car windscreens were smashed.

Ancona - Pescara - 82/83
Source : Pescara website
When I entered the Ancona stadium, I realised that there was only one corner, which we were supposed to share with the local ultras, who were positioned on the edge of the corner, on the right. There were around 2,000 of us and we occupied the space on the left but more in the centre, there were no dividing barriers or police to divide us, it was just us and the local supporters. I settled down in the middle of the group, away from any problems. The applause grew louder by the minute, and we were the masters of the stadium.
The Ancona fans took a while to organise themselves, as if surprised by our massive presence, but in the end they formed a large group. The tension was at its highest and there was no air of twinning, quite the contrary. After an initial phase of ironic and insulting chants, Rangers decided it was time to split up. A huge brawl suddenly broke out against the Anconetani ultras and erupted just under the barriers. Kicks, punches, truncheon blows and a few stones flew around for a very long time; the match was taking place in the background, the curva was out of control, until around twenty carabinieri entered the scene and the situation became even more chaotic: they were armed with shotguns, all of which fired in our direction, flew dangerously over our heads and planted themselves in the advertising hoardings placed behind us.
Then there was a lull. At the end of the match, it all started again, but outside the stadium. We went out first, there was a long downhill slope running alongside the stadium, I remember, but first you had to walk a short flat stretch from the gates of the corner and by the side of the road, hundreds of parked cars. As I was driving along this short stretch, a supporter wearing a white and blue scarf ran past me, he had a huge stone in his hands and it started hitting the bonnets of the cars violently, then he turned the corner and disappeared from my field of vision.
I turned the corner and started down the slope and after about ten metres I realised that the Rangers were grouped together just at the beginning of the slope and that there were a lot of them, I wondered what they were doing and after a moment I understood. Suddenly they started running, taking up the whole road, and I panicked. I managed to take refuge with my brother and a few other people in a doorway, where I found a school friend.
Outside, I saw the horde pass by and the noises you could hear sounded like fireworks at the end of the year. When I went outside after a minute, I saw that the cars had almost all been destroyed, but it wasn't over yet. Two Ancona fans on a Vespa were following the Pescaresi group at a good distance, I remember the guy sitting at the back was particularly tall, but some of the Rangers became aware of their presence and five or six of them broke away from the tail of the group to confront them; One of them caught up with the two on the Vespa and unleashed a volley of punches on the big guy who didn't have time to get out of the saddle, both fell and were attacked by the others; coming out of the bend, a man from Ancona ran up and executed a spectacular Bruce Lee-style flying kick, but he missed the target and crashed into a car.
A few seconds later, the carabinieri arrived and there was a stampede, but someone was caught. I picked up the pace and got on the bus to go home. That Sunday, two banners, ‘Ancona korps’ and ‘Red Fable’, were stolen from the Anconetani.

Wednesday fans that had ended up on the home end. Lots of fighting just before kick off Police led a thousand or so of our fans round to away end.
SWFC view: Before and during the game it was kicking off on the home end regularly owls fans gathered together in the middle of their kop to keep the locals at bay after a large group had been moved around the pitch,
the train lost a few windows on the way home but the home game was completely different with one of the biggest crowds I’ve seen on the kop the away fans were virtually nonexistent,
great times!
