A Siena fan was injured at his head after he was assaulted by Roma fans. It seems the local was injured by a bottle but other sources said it was by knife. _________________

| Russians are big fans of English hooligans - 12/02/2006
Source : THE OBSERVER
Moscow football thugs copy violent tactics - and shun the chav look
It's a winter evening and the four men stamp the snow from their trainers as they enter a dingy café behind Dinamo Moscow's stadium. Inside, groups of men in hoodies and sweatshirts sit at deal tables, smoking and drinking glasses of lager. The walls are covered with flags, football scarfs and trophies. One of the newcomers slips a DVD into a machine by the bar. Shaky footage flickers across the screen of two gangs approaching each other at the edge of a darkened running track. They speed up and clash with grunts and flailing fists.
'It's all done the English way,' says Mikhail Zabrodin, as the camera hovers briefly over a prone young man, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. 'The style, the fighting, everything.'
Fifteen years since the break-up of the Soviet Union brought new trends flooding in, Russian football fans are becoming British soker kezhuali: soccer casuals. Teenagers are saving for Lacoste T-shirts and Burberry caps, while internet chat sites discuss what it means to be a chav. Supporters' 'firms' such as the Mad Butchers and the Gladiators, which echo Chelsea's Headhunters and West Ham's ICF, are springing up at every football club. And pirate copies of Green Street, the Hollywood film about hooliganism, are selling well at kiosks in Moscow. Mikhail, 35, of the Moscow TsSKA firm, the Red and Blue Warriors, wears an Umbro jacket and walks with a round-shouldered waddle that wouldn't be out of place in south-east London. He and his friends have filmed clashes with rival fans. 'We had some hooligan consultants over here from Millwall last year,' grins Mikhail. 'They taught us a few tricks.'
The English influence is all around. Fans pass round well-thumbed copies of books on hooliganism such as Everywhere We Go by Dougie and Eddie Brimson, and stalls near stadiums sell Union flags emblazoned with bulldogs. Ska music is increasingly popular and the best known Moscow group, Clockwork Times, lionises thugs in songs with titles such as 'Lonsdale' and 'Derby Day'.
In the early Nineties many fans say they toyed with an Italian 'performance' style of supporting, using drums and flares. But after seeing seminal films such as The Firm and The Football Factory, droves of them rejected that in favour of mimicking hardcore English supporters. The first time foreigners became aware of Russian hooligans was in 2002, when fans rioted in Moscow, burning cars and fighting police after the national team lost to Japan in the World Cup.
While thousands of fans remain well behaved, organised violence is on the march. Vadim, 37, one of the founder members of the notorious Spartak 'firm', Flint's Crew, says clashes between firms are agreed before matches by phone. Slight but wiry, with scars on his face and arms, Vadim has dedicated his life to fighting for his team at home and abroad. 'When you spot the enemy you raise your hands to show you're "clean", then, bam, you attack!' he said, explaining the fighting protocol. 'Knives aren't allowed and we banned heavy boots after people started getting their heads crushed.'
Most Russian firms have names in honour of UK mentors. Flint's Crew was named after the mutineers in Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island
Police have struggled to contain the growth of hooliganism. Last December officers in St Petersburg fired automatic weapons in the air after running battles with Zenit fans, known as the Nevsky Front, near St Isaac's cathedral. More than 50 supporters were detained and six policemen needed hospital treatment. 'In Moscow we could usually deal with them, but out in the regions the local cops just don't know how to avoid a confrontation,' says Igor, 35, who recently retired from Omon, a police special forces unit.
Most fanatics are nationalists, and some are skinheads known for attacking Russia's dark-skinned immigrants. 'We're patriots,' says Mikhail, of the Red and Blue Warriors. 'We used to have white power concerts until the police stopped us.' Members of his firm organised a protest outside the US embassy in 1999 against the bombing of fellow Slavs in Serbia. A group of men who attacked a meeting of the radical anti-Kremlin National Bolshevik Party last year turned out to belong to Spartak's Gladiators.
Prejudice and pugilism are not the only things Russians have imitated from their English counterparts. At Moscow's Bobby Dazzler pub, local Manchester United fans talk of casual fashions. 'Aquascutum, Fred Perry - not so much now though - Stone Island, Lacoste,' Dima, 21, reels off his favourite brands.
Konstantin, 22, says wearing the authentic gear is vital. No one one wants to look like 'the chavs from Podmoskovie [the poor region around Moscow] who wear fake stuff'. _________________

| Hooligans will miss cup - 14/02/2006
Source : hartlepool today
TWENTY-FOUR Hartlepool football hooligans have been banned from supporting England in Germany in the World Cup.
The orders were dealt to town fans after being convicted of football-related disorder, such as drinking in the ground, fighting or public disorder offences. The orders mean that during the controlled period of the competition, when England are in Germany, the supporters must surrender their passports to the authorities. And on the days that England play matches, they must sign on at Hartlepool Police Station. Failure to do so will result in police action. Magistrates use their discretion and issue the football banning orders when deemed necessary. Detective Sergeant Ian Fawcett, of the Cleveland Police football unit, said the orders had proved extremely successful as a punishment and as a deterrent. He said: "Disorder has been reduced quite significantly in domestic games due to the football banning orders. "A lot of people like their football so much that the orders act as a deterrent, because they know if they misbehave then they will be stopped going to the game they love to go to. "The orders have also taught lessons to a lot of offenders who come back and are transformed from being a risk supporter - who get involved in disorder - to being genuine supporters. "Some of them are reformed characters." Cleveland Police's football unit banning list currently has 29 Hartlepool names. However, by the time the World Cup kicks off in June, five orders will have lapsed. England's first game will be played against Paraguay on Saturday, June 10, at 2pm. _________________

| Fan in court over pitch invasion - 14/02/2006Source : BBC NEWS A Middlesbrough supporter who threw his season ticket in the manager's face in protest at the team's poor performance has pleaded guilty to pitch invasion.Mark D******, 33, from Wheatley Hill, County Durham, ran on to the pitch during Boro's 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Riverside 10 days ago. He appeared before magistrates in Middlesbrough on Tuesday - he told the court emotion got the better of him. He will be sentenced in two weeks and is barred from the ground until then. Magistrates warned him he could face a football banning order. Following the incident, the football club issued a reminder to fans that it was an arrestable offence to invade the pitch. Club spokesman Dave Allan said: "We would ask supporters to be aware that it is an arrestable offence to invade the pitch. "We understand that tensions are running high at present, but would warn fans against pitch incursion as this will result in their arrest by the police." _________________ | |

| Coin throwing mars fans' protest - 14/02/2006
Source : BBC NEWS
Stewards and police were pelted with coins during crowd trouble after Derby County's match against Leeds United.
More than 1,000 Rams' fans staged a protest at Pride Park and demanded the resignation of the board. The club is more than £40m in debt.
No one was hurt during the incident on Saturday. Officers made one arrest.
Police football liaison officers will be meeting protest organisers on Wednesday and say the behaviour of some of the fans was unacceptable.
Sgt Tony Rathbone said: "There's been a protest for a number of weeks around the issue of the board at Derby County and there hadn't been any problems.
"But we believe elements got into that protest who were pushing and throwing coins.
"We will not tolerate that sort of behaviour."
A Derby County spokesman declined to comment. _________________

| Growing German concern over hooligans-12/01/2006
Source:Reuters
German security and intelligence services believe German hooligans are planning to cause mayhem at this year's World Cup, a German magazine said on Sunday. "The hooligans are in the starting blocks. They believe that the police cannot be everywhere during the World Cup. They want to take advantage of that," the intelligence chief in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Johannes Schmalzl, told Focus magazine. Bavarian Interior Minister Guenther Beckstein also told the weekly magazine that the hooligans were preparing intensively for the World Cup. Focus said German authorities had become more nervous after Hans Rostock fans rioted on Feb. 5, injuring 18 police. Football-related violence has been typically taking place well away from stadiums, not necessarily on match days. Around 100 German and Polish hooligans staged a mass brawl in a wood on the German side of the border in late November. Focus said prosecutors in the southern city of Stuttgart, a World Cup venue, were investigating about 60 people suspected of assault in 12 organised fights in woods and fields in 2003 and 2004. _________________

| Mayor bans Ajax fans after violence-11/02/2006
Source:Reuters
The Mayor of The Hague has banned Ajax Amsterdam supporters from attending Sunday's first division match against ADO Den Haag after hooligans attacked the ADO clubhouse injuring five fans. Mayor Wim Deetman told reporters on Saturday Amsterdam supporters would not be allowed into the Zuidarpark stadium. Further measures to deter hooliganism were also being considered, he said. About 70 Ajax supporters attacked the clubhouse on Friday. "The group...from Amsterdam stormed the building near the Zuiderpark stadium and went on a rampage, attacking the ADO Den Haag fans who were there," Police spokesman Jan van den Braak said. "Five ADO Fans were injured, including one with a stab wound, but after treatment in a local hospital they were all able to return home." Van den Braak said that after the attack police set up motorway road blocks and arrested 10 people. The 10 were still being held on Saturday. _________________

| Soccer thug's jail term to stay - 15/02/2006
Source : BBC NEWS
A football hooligan has failed in a bid for freedom when appeal court judges refused to suspend his sentence.
They made their decision despite hearing that his father died of cancer on the day he was sent to prison.
Train conductor David K*******, 31, of Airmyn Avenue, Hull, was jailed for nine months in January after being convicted of affray.
The judges said his father's death did not amount to exceptional circumstances in the eyes of the law.
The court heard that Kitching was one of 18 hooligans prosecuted following the eruption of violence at a Hull versus Huddersfield match in April 2004.
The thugs were caught after a massive police investigation - codenamed Operation Keldgate - which was set up solely to look into the incident.
The violence was a pre-arranged meeting between two sets of supporters and involved up to 100 thugs fighting in the Walton Street car park in Hull following the game at the KC Stadium. _________________

| Five-year ban for away fans in ADO versus Ajax fixtures - 15/02/2006
Source : REÜTERS
Away fans will be banned from watching ADO Den Haag versus Ajax Amsterdam fixtures for the next five years after an attack on the ADO clubhouse last week.
The Mayor of The Hague announced the ban in a statement on Wednesday after discussions between both clubs and cities after 70 Ajax supporters stormed the ADO clubhouse near the Zuiderpark Stadium and attacked 12 fans who were there on Friday night.
Eight ADO fans were injured, including two with stab wounds, and police immediately set up motorway road blocks and arrested 10 Ajax supporters, who are still being held.
"This action (banning away fans) is unavoidable," said Wim Deetman, Mayor of The Hague. "What happened on Friday is very serious, and if it had happened outside the world of football it would have been called an all-out assault."
"When you look at the fact that weapons were found at the Ajax supporters' clubhouse, the fact that ADO supporters were travelling to Amsterdam this weekend, and when you look at the internet traffic, you have to conclude that these people are bringing this on themselves. And in this country that will not be tolerated."
Following Friday's attack Ajax supporters were banned from attending last Sunday's match with ADO in The Hague, which their team won 2-1. The five-year ban runs through the 2010-11 season. _________________

| Racism Fears For Gunners - 18/02/2006
Source: Yahoo.co.uk
Anti-racism campaigners fear crowd disturbances on Tuesday should black players be subjected to racist chanting when Arsenal travel to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
The Gunners will be the first English team to play at the Bernabeu since the national team in 2004, when monkey chants from supporters were aimed at England's black players.
Spain coach Luis Aragones was fined £2,080 for calling Arsenal striker Thierry Henry a "black ****" in a separate incident, with a recent UEFA anti-racism conference also revealing a worrying attitude from officials from the country.
With away tickets limited for Tuesday's clash, anti-racism campaigners fear there could be violence in areas of mixed support.
"There is a genuine concern, especially with Real Madrid's 'Ultra Sur' group who are at the ground," said Piara Powar, director of the Kick It Out anti-racism campaign.
"Arsenal have a large fanbase, most of which do travel. Madrid is a very accessible place for fans to have a nice trip and people will get tickets in any part of the stadium they can - if they take umbrage with racist chanting there could be flashpoints during the game.
"We've got people from Kick It Out who will be there and they will pass on anything they see to UEFA, we will make a complaint to UEFA if there is any racist chanting at the match.
"The recent history in the Bernabeu, and the far-right groups who attend the matches, means it could be a problem."
He added: "I wish I could say there had been changes in Spain but I would be a liar. I think there is a greater awareness of the problem - the media have tried to explain it - but they are nowhere near to solving it."
Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor attended the recent UEFA meeting to address racism, where he was surprised at the attitude of officials from Spain.
Taylor told PA Sport: "There were one or two comments by Spanish FA officials that racism is nothing we should be worried about.
"I thought that was too soft a statement from Spain given the circumstances."
Powar added: "The conference was very progressive but for the comments from the president of the Spanish FA."
Taylor believes Arsenal's clash with Real could be an example of improvements since the ugly scenes during England's friendly.
"It needs careful watching, hopefully they will make sure it is a good example for anti-racism, particularly as it is being played in Madrid and Real have black players in their team," Taylor added.
"They have to make sure there is a pre-match promotion of anti-racism.
"While the problems may never go away in Spain - although there has been some positive work done there - it is better in England."
Taylor also supported Henry, who is an anti-racism campaigner, adding: "He is a player and a person of the highest quality, the last person anyone would want to talk about in such a derisory manner. It is important that things work out right this time." _________________

| 'Behave or be banned' warning as police get tough on football yobs - 17/02/2006
Source : Yorkshire Post
POLICE have issued a stark warning to hooligans intent on causing trouble at this weekend's Sheffield football derby.
They have warned that they could find themselves banned from every football ground in the country. Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United have joined forces with South Yorkshire Police to try to make the match safe and enjoyable for everyone by clamping down on troublemakers. Police are particularly eager to stamp out any racist behaviour during the game – which kicks off at 3pm tomorrow at Wednesday's Hillsborough ground – and all leave has been cancelled. Chief Inspector Andy Eddison, one of the commanders responsible for policing the game, said: "Anyone intent on causing trouble can expect to face police action, which could include a football banning order. "In particular, racist chanting or gesturing will not be tolerated and anyone who indulges in such behaviour will be held accountable for the offence. "Although racism at Sheffield matches is not the norm, we are determined to eliminate all racist behaviour by coming down hard on offenders." He said this was made easier with the help of CCTV and undercover evidence-gathering teams. Police also use additional mobile vans in areas that are not usually covered, especially after the game. One example of the successful use of CCTV is a recent case involving a 42-year-old man, who received a three-year match ban and fine after he was seen making racist gestures at Hillsborough. He was caught on CCTV and was charged with the offence after the footage was used in a press appeal. Chief Ins Eddison said: "If fans work with police and both clubs, they can help us to keep football safe from racism. Football is our national game and we all share responsibility for keeping it open to everyone to enjoy. "Anyone who witnesses this type of crime is encouraged to report it to police, as we act on all information received." Recent changes in police tactics have led to a sharp decrease in football violence in and around Sheffield. The drop is partly credited to the use of football banning orders, of which there are 270 already operating in South Yorkshire. _________________

| United in fan trouble - 20/02/2006
Source : Manchester Online
FANS of both Manchester United and FC United were involved in a series of disturbances during two fiercely contested north west derbies at the weekend.
Merseyside Police said trouble flared during United's 1-0 defeat at Anfield with coins and bottles being thrown at players during the game.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard had a coin hurled at him while he took a corner and United captain Gary Neville was targeted with a burger.
And in the dying moments of the match, when United substitute Alan Smith broke his left leg and dislocated his ankle, Liverpool fans inflamed tempers by mocking the stricken midfielder with a sick chant.
Strained
Relations between the two teams' fans were particularly strained following Neville's injury-time goal celebrations in front of Liverpool fans when the clubs met at Old Trafford four weeks ago. Neville faces an FA hearing this week to explain himself.
Following the match, police say they were attacked by a crowd of up to 150. Bricks and concrete slabs were thrown at officers as they escorted United fans from the ground.
No police officers were injured. Twelve people were arrested for public order offences.
Meanwhile in Blackpool, five fans were arrested and a number of fixed penalty tickets were given out for drunkenness and drinking on the street as some 4,000 FC United fans descended on the town for the North West Counties League clash with Blackpool Mechanics.
It was the biggest away support at Blackpool FC's Bloomfield Road ground for 20 years and Lancashire Police admitted they were caught off-guard. Seven fans were ejected from the ground after a pitch invasion and a large crowd was prevented from getting into the ground late after watching the United game in pubs.
"We weren't expecting anything like those numbers and the match itself wasn't policed at all," said a spokesman.
"There were a number of arrests after the game but any trouble was only on the sort of scale you'd expect with a crowd of that size. The pubs were heaving." _________________

More than 300 officers were on patrol before, during and after Saturday's match at Hillsborough, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Sheffield United.
One officer is recovering from a neck injury received when fans pulled his protective helmet off in the ground.

| Clubs condemn fans after Smith ambulance trouble-23/02/2006
Source:Reuters
Manchester United and Liverpool have condemned fans who attacked the ambulance carrying United midfielder Alan Smith to hospital after he broke a leg in Saturday's FA Cup tie at Anfield.
The ambulance was hit by missiles and rocked from side to side by a group of people outside the Liverpool ground, newspapers reported. "These people are not real fans of football or of Liverpool Football Club," the clubs said in a joint statement on the United website on Thursday.
"Manchester United were very impressed with and grateful for the speedy and efficient help of Liverpool staff.
"Both clubs feel that these are the mindless actions of a few idiots and they should not overshadow the efforts of all involved to make sure that Alan received the best treatment possible as quickly as possible."
Along with the leg break, Smith also suffered a dislocated ankle when the 25-year-old landed awkwardly after trying to block a shot in the fifth round tie, which United lost 1-0. _________________

Nine Bruges fans were slightly injured during troubles who occured at the end of the game when they were assaulted by a group of locals. Troubles started near the De Bosis Place were missiles were threw at Belgians. About 1000 Belgians made the trip to Rome.

Source: Roma fans views mixed
Prior to the game, at 7.30pm about 50 BCF members arrived at the Mancini Place singing 'Club Brugge Hooligans'. As they were looking for Belgians since 2 hours near the stadium, Romans attacked Belgians and a violent toe-to-toe took place between both sides. Finally, locals charged and Belgians explosed in 2 mobs. First one, more important, took the direction of Marescialli Giardina Place. The other small mob tried to confront Romans but finally retreated due to their number. All these events took place for more than 5 minutes. Police forces made an intervention and escorted Belgians who tried to confront locals another time.

Good fight at 300m before entrance at curva sud... Shame you roma for the weapons but respect that you defend your entrance...
FYi my view, please correct me if i'm wrong.
We ( bruges) were with 150 lads during the day at piazza independienza at julius caesar pub. Before the game we arrived near the stadium were we were waited by carabinieri. We were at our way to entrance curva sud but only a couple of 60 lads could get on. The other lads didn't were involved!!!
Once we were over the bridge at the piazza before curva sud roma hools came on and a good fight erupted. Most roma fans were well tooled up with belts, bottles, basebalbatts and other material. We were tooled up with fists and boots....
After a couple of minutes (i didnt had the chance to chrono the time...) we were very divided and roma fans outnumbered us. While were going back (15 lads) we had some fights on the street. And in this toe to toe i had the luck off a breaking botlle on my head by one roma ultra, he did slam me from behind but no damage was done only a big bubble......
Then we had to make a good run...
For roma, you were in bruges allday but you werent present at the "platse" in bruges. We were allday in rome but we were up to 300m from curva sud.... No offence but that are facts.

| Barca beat Zaragoza amidst another racism controversy - 26/02/2006
Source: AFP
Barcelona beat Real Zaragoza 2-0 to stay comfortably at the top of the Spanish league but their victory was overshadowed by the appalling racist abuse of Samuel Eto'o.
The three-time African Player of the Year and Spanish first division's leading scorer had suffered throughout the game with Zaragoza supporters attacking him but after 76 minutes he decided that they had gone too far.
Eto'o started to leave the field, telling the referee why he was walking to the sidelines, and was only persuaded to carry on playing by his team mate Ronaldinho and Zaragoza's Ewerthon, both black Brazilians.
The incident was an alarming repetition of what happened 12 months ago when Barca visited Zaragoza.
On that occasion, Eto'o responded to the moronic monkey chants from the home crowd by celebrating a goal with a monkey-style imitation.
"If they want to treat me like a monkey then I'll dance like one," said Eto'o at the time.
Barcelona showed that they were not to be intimidated by scoring two late goals to avenge their 4-2 defeat at Zaragoza in the Spanish Cup last month.
Ronaldinho broke the deadlock with a penalty after 80 minutes, after an Edmilson shot had been pushed over the bar by Zaragoza midfielder and former Barca player Albert Celedes.
Celedes was also sent off for deliberately handling the ball.
Henrik Larsson then added Barcelona's second two minutes later to provide a well deserved victory.
The win gives Barcelona a nine point advantage over their nearest rivals Valencia, although the 2004 champions have a game in hand and play host to Getafe on Sunday.
By contrast, Zaragoza can expect a heft fine, at the very least, for the latest outbreak of racism, which continues to tarnish Spanish football. _________________
