| Calls for tougher action over racism at UEFA conference - 01/02/2006Source : REÜTERS Calls for tougher sanctions and European-wide legislation to tackle the problem of racism in soccer were at the top of the agenda at a UEFA conference in Barcelona on Wednesday. UEFA chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson told the "Unite against Racism" conference that the body was prepared to use a carrot and stick in order to encourage clubs and national associations to adopt a more pro-active approach to the problem. "We haven't fully explored the powers at our disposal at the moment," Olsson told the conference. "UEFA, FIFA, national associations and clubs need to take tough action, but tougher sanctions alone won't solve the problem. "We need to follow a two-stage policy of heightening awareness and then trying to change people's beliefs." The conference at Barcelona's Nou Camp stadium aims to raise awareness about the extent of racism in football across Europe and propose practical solutions to the problem. Former Chelsea, Celtic and Bari player Paul Elliott said that major advances had been made, but that the time had come for a "zero tolerance" approach. "As a player I experienced banana throwing, monkey chanting and threats of violence in the 1970s and 80s," he said. "Back in the 70s racism was conveniently swept under the carpet. We've come a long way since then, but we've got a long way still to go. "The crucial step forward now is to insist that no one is above the law," he said. "We have a golden chance to score a goal against racism by ensuring that footballers have the right to a racism free environment in their workplace. ENFORCEMENT NEEDED Speakers said that recent incidents such as the appearance of anti-Semitic and pro-fascist banners at the AS Roma stadium last weekend and the abuse received by visiting black players during Spain's friendly international against England last season highlighted the need for further action. "I was horrified to see English footballers abused here when they played in Spain," said Claude Moraes, A UK member of the European Parliament. "The most horrifying thing was that middle class, professional people, families and young people were involved and they felt it was normal. "This is a human issue which can be addressed by legislation, implementation and enforcement. Only by enforcement will the racists get the message." Piara Powar, spokesman for Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE), stressed that anti-racist measures should not be used as a mere marketing tool to improve the image of the game. "If we use this just as a way of cleaning up the game to put it in the shop window then we have a problem. Our vision of success at this conference is to learn new things and then bring about change in different countries." _________________ | |

| Italy - Suspend matches to combat racism, says minister - 01/02/2006Source : REÜTERS Italy's Minister of the Interior Giuseppe Pisanu has called on the country's police to suspend soccer matches every time supporters display banners inciting racism or political violence. "I have invited the forces of public security to apply the existing laws with the maximum severity and suspend matches every time messages are displayed inciting political violence, racism or xenophobia," Pisanu was quoted as saying in La Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday. Pisanu's call came after AS Roma fans held up neo-Nazi and anti-Semitic banners during a 3-0 win over Livorno in Serie A, Italy's first division, at the weekend -- the latest in a series of incidents to tarnish the image of Italian football. Roma have been ordered to play their next home Serie A fixture at a neutral venue and behind closed doors by the Italian Football League disciplinary committee. Last season, Roma were ordered to play their final two Champions League group stage matches behind closed doors after Swedish referee Anders Frisk was struck on the head by a coin thrown from the stands during their opening game at the Olympic Stadium against Dynamo Kiev. Also last season, Inter Milan fans brought the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against city rivals AC Milan to a halt when they rained flares and firecrackers down on to Milan goalkeeper Dida. PISANU LAW The continuing problem of football violence prompted Italy's parliament to pass a law last July known as the "Pisanu Law", aimed at curbing the worst excesses of violence in the country's stadiums. The law allowed police to arrest fans suspected of causing trouble up to 36 hours after a match on the basis of video evidence. It also made provision for stadiums to be shut down if police reported violence inside or outside, or if offensive banners were displayed by fans. The law has reduced the level of violence in Italian football, but done little to curb racism or prevent fans and players airing their extreme political views inside stadiums. Last November, Messina's Ivorian midfielder Mark Zoro threatened to walk off the pitch after he suffered racial abuse during a Serie A game against Inter. Lazio's former England-based striker Paolo Di Canio has twice been handed fines and one-match bans for making fascist salutes at the end of Serie A matches against Livorno and Juventus. So far the most extreme punishments allowed by the Pisanu law have not been applied. Pisanu's latest call hinted at a new get-tough policy, though he also defended the decision of Rome's police chief, Marcello Fulvi, not to suspend the match between Roma and Livorno at the weekend. "A forceful intervention or the suspension of the match in the tense situation that existed would have put many peaceful fans at risk of getting hurt," he said. "The police chief's decision therefore cannot be interpreted as weakness". _________________ | |

| Blair pleased with World Cup security - 02/02/2006Source : REÜTERS Prime Minister Tony Blair is pleased with the cooperation on security issues between Britain and Germany ahead of the 2006 soccer World Cup. "There's a lot of very hard work that we are just coming to grips with now," Blair said outside 10 Downing Street after meeting Germany's World Cup chief Franz Beckenbauer on Thursday. "The preparations look superb and well-organised as you would expect. I'm pleased with the cooperation ... on the security side and some of the organisational issues." German police will operate in England before the World Cup in an advisory capacity to prevent hooligans travelling to the tournament. Uniformed English and German police are set to work side by side for the first time at a major tournament. The Home Office (interior ministry) has said that a limited number of German police will be placed at British airports and ports during the summer in a liaison role where they will be visible to travelling fans. English police will be deployed in Germany in an advisory role during the month-long tournament, which starts on June 9, but it has yet to be decided if they will have powers of arrest. England is likely to send the largest contingent of fans to the World Cup, with 100,000 expected to travel to Germany. Almost 1,000 English hooligans were detained and expelled after rioting at Euro 2000 in Belgium and the Netherlands. But there was little trouble at the 2002 World Cup in Asia and Euro 2004 in Portugal after banning orders were imposed on known trouble-makers. Beckenbauer, Germany's former World Cup-winning player and manager, is president of the organising committee in charge of the tournament, which features 32 teams playing a total of 64 matches at 12 venues leading to the final on July 9. England have been drawn against Paraguay, Trinidad & Tobago and Sweden in the first round. FRANCE WC'98 _________________ | |

| Fans jailed over organised fight - 03/02/2006
Source : BBC NEWS
Two men have been jailed for their part in a fight between Chelsea and Aston Villa supporters.
David S**, 33, from Sidcup, Kent, has been sentenced to two years and Blieu H********, 21, of Egham, Surrey, received nine months in prison.
The pair were also each given 10-year football banning orders. Two other men were given 250 hours of community service between them.
The pre-arranged fight happened near Kings Cross station in March 2004.
Judge Andrew Campbell said innocent members of the public including young children were caught up in the violence and were "very alarmed" by it.
Jason P*****, 19, of Lansdowne Road, Feltham, south west London, received 200-hours community service and a five-year ban.
James H****, 26, of Cumberland Way, Eynsbury, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, received 50-hours community service and a 12-month rehabilitation order, and a five-year ban.
S**, H******** and P***** had all been found guilty of affray, while Healy pleaded to guilty to a public order offence.
Sgt Dave Hine, from the Metropolitan Police's central football intelligence unit, said: "Violence in the name of football - whether near grounds or in the street - is a crime and we will target those responsible and do all we can to bring them before the courts.
"This case was about a pre-arranged fight, involving two groups of men who had been to watch separate games in London that day. Their sole intention was to hurt each other."
Thirteen other men sentenced last August for their part in the violence are all believed to follow Aston Villa. _________________

| Outbreak of racist taunts plaguing Italian football - 03/02/2006Source : FT.com Italy’s government and football authorities are on high alert at stadiums this weekend to combat a plague of racism and hooliganism contaminating the nation’s favourite sport. At a game last Sunday between Roma and Livorno – two clubs in Serie A, Italy’s top league – crowds held aloft anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi banners insulting fans of Livorno and Lazio, Roma’s rival club in the Italian capital. One slogan read: “Lazio-Livorno, stessa iniziale, stesso forno” – “Lazio and Livorno, same initial, same oven.” Another slogan, in German, read: “Gott mit uns” – “God with us”, the inscription on the belt buckles of Nazi soldiers in the second world war. The Italian football federation’s disciplinary committee has ordered Roma to play their next home match at a neutral venue and behind closed doors, but some government ministers complained the punishment was too mild for the crime. “The entire football world is going through a crisis, because the only thing that counts today is that the show goes on,” said Gianfranco Fini, foreign minister. “The talk is all about ‘zero tolerance’ and then every Sunday these situations come up.” Giuseppe Pisanu, interior minister, blamed the incidents on rightwing extremists who infiltrated Roma’s stadium, rather than on the club’s real fans. He said there was enough evidence to imprison the perpetrators for terms of three months to one year. He also proposed that Italian football games be automatically suspended if symbols or slogans were on display that incited political violence, racism or xenophobia. Under existing laws, the police can stop football matches in mid-game but are not obliged to do so, meaning they have considerable discretion in assessing how dangerous or offensive an incident is. Last Sunday’s trouble was the latest involving big Italian clubs. Last season Roma had to play two games in the Champions League, Europe’s most prestigious club competition, behind closed doors after the referee in a Roma-Dynamo Kiev match suffered a head wound from a coin thrown from the stands. Lazio and Inter, a renowned Milan club, were also punished last year because of their fans’ behaviour. As Italy’s reputation began to sink to levels once associated with English football fans, the government passed a law last August under which people throwing objects on the pitch, or joining in pitch invasions that cause a game’s suspension, can be jailed for up to four and a half years. The government has tried to crack down on hooliganism by increasing the use of video surveillance inside stadiums, and by introducing numbered tickets with the buyers’ names on them to identify trouble-makers. But Silvio Berlusconi, prime minister, and a passionate football fan, said it would be wrong to ban all banners from stadiums. Mr Berlusconi, who owns AC Milan, one of Italy’s most famous clubs, said: “Not all the banners should be stopped. Many are clever and ironic.” _________________ | |

Reebok clash all-ticket on police orders
WANDERERS' derby match against Wigan Athletic on Saturday has been made all-ticket after the police received reports that football hooligans could try to cause trouble.
Wanderers closed the ticket office at noon on Friday following police advice to prevent rival fans infiltrating opposition sitting areas at the Reebok.
The two local teams have not met in Bolton for 13 years and it is the first time the Whites have played host to Wigan at the Reebok Stadium.
The last time they faced each other in Bolton was at Burnden Park in 1992.
Normally, fans can pay on entry at the ground on match days, but this Saturday only fans who have already purchased their tickets will be allowed through the turnstiles.
Supporters who turn up at the Reebok Stadium without tickets have been warned they will be turned away.
Chief Supt Dave Lea, who is match commander on Saturday, said extra police patrols would be deployed to make sure there was no trouble before, during or after the game.
"It is a local derby with a great deal riding upon it," he said.
"Sadly, a small minority have indicated that they may seek to exploit this match to cause trouble, and we have consequently put into place a robust policing operation which compliments the club's well-practised stewarding of the event.
"I have advised the club on safety grounds that this match should be an all-ticket event.
"I recognise that this could inconvenience some, but must emphasise that this decision was made to allow those genuine supporters to enjoy the event without risk of disorder.
"This is intelligence-led, and, in conjunction with colleagues in British Transport Police and Lancashire Constabulary, we will present a robust response to anyone who is intent on causing disorder."
Chief Supt Lea added: "Saturday is about a well-matched game of football between two competitive neighbours.
"It is my intention that that it precisely what Saturday will be remembered for."
A spokesman for Wanderers said: "Due to police instructions, there will be no sales available whatsoever on the day of the game - however, pre-booked collections will be permitted." _________________

| Station brawl hooligans get ban - 02/02/2006
Source : BBC NEWS
Six football hooligans have been given banning orders for their parts in a violent brawl which broke out at Nottingham railway station.
Bottles and chairs were thrown in the fight after a match between Notts County and Boston United in October 2004, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
The judge was also told how "terrified" passengers were forced to take cover.
Five men from Nottingham and a Boston man who all admitted affray were banned from football matches for three years.
The judge said the men behaved like "a pack of animals", losing control, causing mayhem and terrifying passengers.
He added that, had the prosecution not taken so long, then all six of the men would have been jailed.
Notts County, currently mid-table in League Two, beat Boston United 2-1 in the match. _________________

Prior to he game, both sides fronted each other with about the same number (20 on each). Locals, with old faces at the 2nd line, charged BCM who immediately retreated, except their leader who stayed alone for a while (respect). BCM ran away for 200/300 meters and entered a coach with the aim to protect themselves. Finally, locals had a good orgnisation and all, especially youth, were well up for it...On visitors side, a total disappointment, except for their leader. _________________

| Football thugs be warned - 07/02/2006Source : blackpool today POLICE hunting hooligans who brought shame to the resort today warned: "You have no place to hide."It comes as detectives were today investigating the possibility violent brawls may have been pre-arranged on the internet and mobiles phones. Messages bragging about violence appeared on Blackpool fan sites following Saturday's clashes, which saw running street battles and numerous arrests. Blackpool Football Club chairman Karl Oyston today threatened to ban any so-called 'fan' found involved in match-related violence. And police warned troublemakers they will be spending the summer's festive of football – the World Cup in Germany – at home. Officers were today monitoring CCTV footage of the violence in a bid to bring the thugs to justice. Supt Peter White, of Lancashire Police, admitted the police had been caught out by the violence but added: "There were 13 arrests, which is significant but still not on the scale of what we experienced in the 70s and 80s. "We are aware that groups do meet at certain places to have a fight out of the gaze of the police. "The likes of mobiles phones and the internet have helped all sorts of criminals. "There is a possibility this was pre-arranged over the internet and that will be investigated." Meanwhile, the landlord of the first pub hit by trouble has relived the terror. Paul Stevens, from The Castle, on Central Drive, said: "We had about 150 Forest fans in here on Saturday lunchtime when 30 or so Blackpool fans stormed past the doormen. "It was so bad I locked my staff in the kitchen for their own safety. Glass and tables were flying everywhere." One pub boss described the violence as a "black day for Blackpool" while another said it was "mayhem". Credit Pool chairman Karl Oyston said the scenes witnessed will not be tolerated. He said: "We are often quick to criticise the police when things go wrong, or appear to go wrong, but I think they deserve immense credit for the way in which the situation was handled on Saturday. "Our own stewards also deserve great credit for stopping what could have been a nasty situation. "We will take direct action against anyone who is deemed to have behaved in a manner that we consider unacceptable and, yes, future exclusion from the ground will be considered." A five-man disciplinary committee reviewed the accounts of six participants in a brawl that followed Turkey's elimination, which involved players and coaching staff in the tunnel on the way to the dressing rooms. Newcastle midfielder Emre and former Aston Villa defender Alpay have also been banned for six matches for their part in the clashes, while Switzerland player Benjamin Huggel has also received a six-game suspension after he was filmed kicking out at Turkish officials. Turkey assistant coach Mehmet Ozdilek has been banned from taking part in any football-related activity for 12 months, while the Swiss physiotherapist, Stephan Meyer, has received a two-match suspension. The Turkish FA has also been fined £90,000. _________________ | |

| Football thug banned from sport for five years - 08/02/2006
Source : Cambridge Evening News
A HOOLIGAN has been banned from football matches after a prearranged fight with rival supporters.
Chelsea supporter James H**** was convicted of a public order offence after a punch-up with Aston Villa fans in the King's Cross area of central London.
The 26-year-old, of Cumberland Way, Eynesbury, St Neots, was sentenced to 50 hours of community service, given a 12-month rehabilitation order and handed a five-year football banning order.
Judge Andrew Campbell, sitting at Kingston Crown Court, south west London, said members of the public, including young children, were caught up in the violence in March 2004 and were "very alarmed" by the fight.
Three men were also convicted of affray.
Judge Campbell jailed 33-year-old David S**, of Christopher Close, Sidcup, Kent, for two years and gave him a 10-year banning order, while 21-year-old Blieu H********, of Huntingfield Way, Egham, Surrey, was jailed for nine months and handed a 10-year ban.
Nineteen-year-old Jason P*****, of Lansdowne Road, Feltham, south west London, received 200 hours of community service and a five-year football ban.
Scotland Yard said 13 men were dealt with in August last year over the incident, and the latest convictions meant the hooligans received a total of nine years and three months imprisonment, 130 years of bans, 450 hours of community service, and six years of community rehabilitation. _________________

Ajax fans banned after commando assault at The Hague
Ajax fans have been banned from the club's Dutch League match at ADO Den Haag on Sunday after 70 hooligans went on the rampage with baseball bats.
The Hague mayor Wim Deetmann told reporters on Saturday that Ajax fans would not be allowed into the Zuiderpark stadium after five people were injured in the attack on the ADO clubhouse. ADVERTISEMENT
The commando-style assault took place at around 23.00 local time on Friday night and police did not manage to restore calm until about 03.00 on Saturday - ten thugs were arrested.
Ajax has a notorious hardcore of hooligans who last year ransacked a train in Rotterdam Station before a match against Feyenoord.
Ajax president John Jaakke admitted he did not have any idea on how to deal with the problem.
"I understand the mayor's decision given the prevailing atmosphere," said Jaakke.
"I just do not know how to contain the violence of the hardcore supporters." *********************************************************** Source: post - DH lad
It is not completely correct, there were about 12 people in our home , and 2 got stabbed(16yr old boys), 8 others got beaten with baseball bats, they threw in a molotov cocktail(that didn't work) and smoke bombs , they even tried to set one of our lads on fire after throwing gasoline on him... after this they directly left for home, and in the mean time about a 150 of us got ready to go to after those fuckin cunts , only got stopped by old bill ...
this is once again prove of the jids being cowardly cunts ... we will get back on this one. the hague jihad on 020! _________________
