| RSC Charleroi - FC Brussels - 07/05/05
Source: mail - local lad view
During the week before the game, several phonecalls were exchanged between both sides, as Brussels' BCM announced their venue. Firstly, their contact said FC Liège lads will be with them. It was false. Secondly, they announced KV Mechelen and Anderlecht lads with them. Another time, it was false but it's strange to know police forces had infos of this game. Prior to the game, news phonecals exchanged: BCM contact announed 32 cars...anf 20 minutes after, only 22, for a total mob of about 80 lads (???). Finally, locals decided to gave an off and they left their pub with about 40. Finally only about 10 BCM'ers were seen and of course no punches were exchanged. In fact, BCM, inside the stadium was with only 20 lads. At the end of the game, about 40/50 locals tried to find their rivals but no one was seen. So....was the BCM contact a lyer or just the 'bad' guy? Too many lyings for a game who ended in a new total non event. _________________

| Real Madrid to be fined over anti-immigration banner - 11/05/2005
Source : REÜTERS
Spain's Anti-violence Commission has recommended that Real Madrid be fined for failing to prevent fans from displaying a large anti-immigration banner during Saturday's Primera Liga match at home to Racing Santander.
In calling for a 3,001 euro fine the government-run body criticised the club's turnstile security for failing to prevent such a large banner from being brought into the Santiago Bernabeu stadium for the game, which Madrid won 5-0.
The banner read: "They invade us, they kill us. Justice for Spain. Justice for Manu."
Manu refers to a youth who was fatally stabbed in a Madrid suburb last week, reportedly by a Dominican. _________________

| Turkish authorities confident of security arrangements - 14/05/2005
Source : AFP
Turkish authorities are confident security arrangements at the Ataturk stadium will prevent trouble at the European Champions League final later this month between Liverpool and AC Milan.
The kinds of scenes when two Leeds fans died in April 2000 before a UEFA Cup match against Istanbul club Galatasaray after a pitch battle between supporters is unlikely to repeat itself, say authorities.
Liverpool's presence in Istanbul on May 25 also evoked memories of the Heysel stadium tragedy in Brussels in 1985.
As Liverpool and Juventus were preparing to contest the European Cup final, a wall collapsed killing 39 people as Juventus fans tried to escape a surging mass of Liverpool fans.
But with less than two weeks to go to the showpiece final, local officials are adamant similar scenes will not take place.
About 2,600 stewards will be spread throughout the crowd and 1,000 police will be present, including 600 hidden underneath the stands.
Sami Colgecen, who is in charge of organising the final, told AFP: "We don't have any particular worries about British supporters. A list of hooligans will soon be sent to us and they will not be able to enter Turkey."
Strict security checks will be made at Istanbul airports by Turkish police, aided by British authorities, and any trouble makers would be quickly identified, added Colgecen.
"We know that English clubs only sell their quota of tickets to supporters who have followed the club the whole season, which helps the situation," he added.
English and Italian supporters will have a hard time meeting such are the arrangements that have been put into place.
English fans will arrive by charter plane at the Sabiha Gokcen airport, on the Asian side of the city, while those from Italy will fly into the Ataturk airport on the European side.
The two groups of fans will be escorted to the stadium by different routes and will occupy distinctly different parts of the 78,000-capacity venue.
The Turkish Cup final on Wednesday night, won 5-1 by Galatasaray against Fenerbahce, served as a dress rehearsal for security arrangements with about 8,000 police, stewards and officials on hand to ensure fans of the two Istanbul clubs did not express their rivalry in physical terms.
Istanbul governor Muammer Guler, quoted by the Anatolie press agency, said: "We deployed all the measures which could be needed for the Champions League final and we were happy with the results."
A meeting between sports officials and authorities of the governor of Istanbul will be held in the next few days to fine tune arrangements, particularly the securing of the area around the stadium and in the city centre.
About 70,000 tickets for the final will be distributed, with 20,000 each for the two clubs, 16,000 for fans in Europe and 6,000 for sponsors with the rest going to European and national sporting bodies.
The 120-million-dollar Olympic stadium of Ataturk is three and a half years old and was built as part of Istanbul's plan to attract the Olympics to the city but it has been largely underused. It is the biggest and most modern stadium in Turkey.
Several hundred buses will ensure transport to the stadium, which is about 20km outside the city, with the help of reserved lanes and traffic restrictions imposed in certain areas, Colgecen added. _________________

| Anti-Glazer Fans Warn Of Final Chaos - 15/05/2005
Source : SPORTINGLIFE
Manchester United fans opposed to Malcolm Glazer's takeover of the club have threatened to cause "sheer pandemonium" at next week's FA Cup final. Many supporters have already protested outside Old Trafford following the American's bid to take control of the Red Devils. And now one leading fans' group has warned they will target Saturday's clash with Arsenal at the Millennium Stadium to vent their fury at Glazer's coup. "We won't do anything that endangers safety but they may have to draft in the army to police the match," said Oliver Houston, vice-chairman of Shareholders United. "The suggestions range from sheer pandemonium, to hurling thousands of beach balls on the pitch, to a Gandhi-esque protest of people just walking onto the field and sitting down," quotes The Sunday Times. _________________

| Racism in East European Stadiums - ??/05/2005
Source : BBC
The websites of some Eastern European clubs have featured material that encourages racism, a leading Roma organisation has said. Recent years have seen a worrying rise in racist behaviour at Eastern European football matches, notably with England players subjected to abuse at the hands of Slovakian fans in a World Cup qualifier. However, racism against gypsies is an equally big problem. Valeriu Nikolai, the Chief Executive of the European Roma Information Office, told BBC World Service's World Football programme that the internet sites of clubs such as Steaua Bucharest have featured racist material. "If you look at their fan website, the racism, the hate is absolutely incredible. "That was back in 2003 - they had available on the website a game where it was possible to hunt down gypsies. "In fact, on the website you can easily find unbelievable hate. You can also find pictures of the racist banners. But this is something that has gone on for years, and nobody has looked at it."
Political message
Ms Nikolai attacked as derisory the total amount of money spent on anti-gypsism in Romania, saying that the figure of 400 euros for a whole year was "absolutely ridiculous." And she called for Uefa to work with the European Commission to help eradicate the problem, and for them to focus anti-racism programmes on Eastern Europe. "In general the problems are the same - in Hungary, Macedonia, Serbia, and so on," she added. "This needs to stop, and Uefa can stop it. "If they send a strong political message that this is not accepted, and if the European Commission sends the same strong message, then things will change." The European Union's Commissioner for Racial and Multiculturalism Jan Fiegal said that the long-term solution was education, and that 2004 - the European year of education through sport - had been a year of "many successful initiatives." "There were so many projects, and so many clubs, federations, associations and schools participating that this might bring gradual fruits," he added. However he called for "much more" to be done on a national level. "We will organise in May an international conference on preparation for future EU sport policy, because there is now, for the first time, a clause in the drafted treaty of the EU Constitution speaking about sport," he added. "I'm sure that fairness and openness in European competitions, and the protection of physical and moral integrity of those who practice sport - especially the young - is an important precondition for the credibility and positive effect of sport in our societies. "Much more should be done on the preventive side, via education, more intensive co-operation, and civil action, against racism." _________________

| Launch of football thug crackdown - 21/05/2005
Source : BBC news
Police are set to patrol airports in a bid to prevent football hooligans from flying to Istanbul for the Champions League final.
Officers from the Greater Manchester and Merseyside forces will be on patrol at local airports, monitoring flights ahead of Wednesday's match.
Detectives will check on fans who have a known record of football violence.
They say they want to ensure the safety of fans who make the trip legitimately to watch AC Milan play Liverpool.
They particularly aim to prevent those who are known to be the subject of a football banning order from travelling to Istanbul.
The initiative, called Operation Buffalo, will take place from Sunday until Wednesday.
It is being run by officers from Greater Manchester Police's football intelligence unit with other agencies, including the National Criminal Intelligence Service, Merseyside Police and uniformed officers based at the airport.
Ch Insp Martin Gaffney said: "Officers are being deployed across Manchester Airport to ensure that legitimate football fans, not intent on causing trouble, can travel safely and easily to Istanbul.
Leeds fans deaths
"We wish Liverpool Football Club and its fans the very best in the Champions League final but would warn anyone who is the subject of a football banning order or restriction order not to bother trying to travel to Istanbul.
"These people will be identified and prevented from travelling to the fixture if they attempt to board a flight to Istanbul, or any other viable route, from Manchester Airport."
Two Leeds United fans were stabbed to death in Istanbul in April 2000.
Kevin Speight, 37, and 40-year-old Christopher Loftus were killed during disturbances the night before their team played in a Uefa Cup semi-final against Galatasaray. _________________
