Late after the match, incidents broke out in town. “Around 2 or 3 a.m. we had problems with a group of around 30 supporters,” explains Lien Depoorter, spokesperson for the local police in Bruges. The police were attacked.

"There was violence with chairs and beer mugs thrown at the police. The situation really deteriorated and we had to call for reinforcements. With their help, it was finally possible to contain the riot and arrest four people."

Earlier in the day, two FCSG supporters were arrested for disturbing public order.

At Bruges-Ostend airport, the departure of 180 Swiss supporters, most of them drunk, was also difficult for the Belgian police. The Swiss only finally boarded at 5:45 a.m.

Atletico Madrid have banned two club members following fan disorder in their derby clash with Real Madrid on September 29.

Los Rojiblancos snatched a 1-1 derby draw in the most dramatic setting as Angel Correa netted in the 95th minute to cap a wild night in the Spanish capital.

However, the result on the pitch was just one of the storylines, with both sets of players ordered off the pitch as stadium security battled to keep control of angry Atletico Madrid ultras.

In the fallout from the incident, Atletico Madrid have already confirmed the permanent stadium banning of one member, who was rumoured to have been potentially carrying a weapon.

The club have continued to work with their security staff and local police to identify more individuals with swift action now taken on two individuals.

Further enquiries will continue, with more bans expected to be issued in the coming days, as police trawl through hours of security footage and reports from inside the Estadio Metropolitano.

Atletico Madrid must close part of its Metropolitano stadium for three matches because of fan trouble in the derby against Real Madrid in the Spanish league at the weekend.

The Spanish federation’s competition committee said Wednesday that fans will not be allowed in a section that seats about 5,000 behind one of the goals at the Metropolitano. Atletico can appeal the decision.

The section is where fans threw objects on the field after Madrid scored a goal in Sunday’s league derby, prompting the referee to send the players to the locker rooms and interrupting the game for more than 15 minutes.

At least one person who threw the objects was identified. The club said it would apply its “internal policy for serious offenses to those involved in this incident.”

The match ended 1-1, with Atletico equalizing in stoppage time.

In the middle of the second period, when the score was already 2-1 after the 20th minute of play, around twenty Genk supporters used pyrotechnic devices after putting on hoods.

The “Mauve Army 2003” decided to mount a support action due to the absence of Standard supporters. Already the night before, incidents took place in the city, three young Chemie supporters were attacked by 25-30 rival supporters. They had to take refuge in a bar before the arrival of the police, who made several arrests.

'Violence' and 'disorder' sees six arrests after football clash in Edinburgh

Six people have been arrested following an outbreak of 'violence' and 'disorder' following a football match in Edinburgh.

A large disturbance took hold in the capital following the Scottish Premiership clash between the two clubs at Easter Road today.

Cops raced to St Andrew Square where disorder broke out following the end of the match which finished 2-1 to the Steelmen.

Edinburgh trams had to be halted amidst chaotic scenes in the capital.

Police Scotland say they have launched a probe into the ugly scenes that took place following the match.

A Force spokesperson said: "Six people have been arrested following incidents of violence and disorder in the St Andrew’s Square area of Edinburgh after the Hibs v Motherwell match.

While around 150 tough guys from Brunswick were watching the derby in a beer hall in Gifhorn (15 kilometers from Brunswick), 50 to 70 hooligans from Hanover attacked them. Quickly, the confrontation moved into the street. There were several injured. The police intervened on site and checked around fifty people and around ten vehicles.

Hannover supporters were banned from the derby for security reasons, which caused several demonstrations of discontent, both among Hannover and Brunswick fans.

The police intervened ahead of a planned fight between supporters of SC Paderborn and SV Lippstadt 08, at Gruger Park in Lippstadt. However, only around fifty Paderborn supporters were present on site. 47 people were searched and checked. Mouth guards and combat gloves were found. Two supporters – including a minor – were arrested for refusing to submit to checks. A police officer was slightly injured in the face.
