Terrifying crowd violence sees Colombian match suspended and stadium evacuated as fans spotted with knives

Atletico Nacional’s clash with Atletico Junior was suspended after a terrifying fight in the stands left at least 20 people injured.

The Colombian Prima A match descended into chaos in the second half, with riot police seen intervening to stop the crowd disorder.

According to reports from Colombian outfit Caracol Radio Medellin, those injured were taken to nearby medical centres.

The outlet also stated knives had been brought into the game to use to attack rivals.

Some of the injured were taken to the lower part of the stadium to have their stab wounds treated by the Red Cross, as per El Colombiano.

The confirmation of an away-day ban comes after the news that the upcoming match between Genoa and Juventus at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris will be played behind closed doors.

The latest update confirms that Sampdoria will also have to play their next home match in an empty stadium. Their next home clash will fall on October 4 against Juve Stabia in Serie B.

48 people were injured, many of whom were police officers trying to disperse crowds, after full-time in the Derby della Lanterna on Wednesday night. Several arrests were also made in the aftermath.

After Friday’s update, Genoa fans will be banned from attending the home match against Juventus on Saturday, plus the away trips against Atalanta on October 5, Lazio on October 27 and Parma on November 4.

A fight between supporters
