Fan allegedly abused Socceroo, bit security guard after A-League clash
One rowdy A-League supporter has been arrested after allegedly biting a security guard following Friday night’s clash between Macarthur FC and Melbourne Victory.
A number of Victory fans allegedly repeatedly heckled Socceroos goalkeeper Adam Federici after his Bulls side claimed a 3-1 victory at Campbelltown Stadium.
According to a NSW Police spokeswoman, a 25-year-old man allegedly assaulted a security guard after being asked to cease heckling the 36-year-old gloveman.
The man allegedly bit the security guard during the altercation. Police on the scene arrested the Queensland man and took him to Campbelltown Police station, the spokeswoman said.
He was charged with common assault, and excluded person fail to leave premises when required. The man is due to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Monday 28 June.
Meanwhile, an investigation continues into whether the alleged abuse directed towards Federici by a number of supporters also included alleged racial taunts. There is no suggestoin the 25-year-old Queensland man allegedly racially abused Federici.
The 36-year-old veteran – who also has Italian heritage – has played a star role for the Bulls in their impressive inaugural campaign, having returned down under after almost two decades plying his trade in England.
Federici has played every minute of Macarthur’s 22 games this season, keeping an equal-league-high seven clean sheets and helping the club to the brink of a finals berth in their maiden campaign.
The goalkeeper has 16 caps for Australia, the most recent coming in 2016, but was part of the Socceroos squad in the most recent match in 2019, and remains a contender for coach Graham Arnold’s upcoming side for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.
The competition has previously witnessed ugly racial abuse this season.
Adelaide United’s Kusini Yengi was targeted on social media following a standout performance against Victory in March.
Yengi’s father Ben travelled from the border of South Sudan and Uganda to South Australia in the 1970s and has since been awarded an OAM for his services to the state.
But the Reds’ young forward was lashed with sickening comments on Instagram following a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Victory.
Both clubs investigated the incident, though an Adelaide United spokesman today said no perpetrators have so far been identified.

But their victory was overshadowed by troubling scenes of violence which reportedly took place before their goal.

"According to the police, the reason for the massive force was firecrackers and bottles thrown at police officers."

Belgium : Brugge star investigated for joining anti-Semtic chant - 23/05/2021
Source : https://www.france24.com/
The Belgian Football Association (URBSFA) announced on Saturday that it was opening an investigation following Club Brugge's title celebrations, during which Dutch player Noa Lang sang an anti-Semitic chant.
In a video circulating on social networks, Lang was filmed at the Brugge title party on after they clinched the title on Thursday joining supporters in a song aimed at fans of rivals Anderlecht, which is seen as historically linked to the Jewish community.
Brugge made sure of their 17th Belgian league title with a 3-3 draw at Anderlecht in Brussels. Lang, a 21-year-old winger, scored the third Bruges goal.
"The Belgian FA condemns all forms of discrimination and defers to the competent disciplinary bodies to decide on the follow-up to these events," the URBSFA website said.
Lang, who started his career at Ajax in Amsterdam, is one of the candidates for the Belgian Pro League's player of the season and young player of the season.
"Racism and anti-Semitism have no place in our society. Chants that target specific groups of people must not be trivialised any longer," the league said on Saturday.
Brugge, whose fans have been accused of anti-Semitic chants in the past, defended their player
"When Noa Lang sang with our fans, there was no antisemitic undertone," Club Brugge wrote. "Noa did not mean to hurt or insult anyone in any way and we are sorry if this happened."

Red Star Belgrade fans riot during Serbian title celebration
Several people have been injured and more than 100 Red Star Belgrade fans were arrested after violent clashes during boisterous celebrations of the club’s Serbian national league soccer title.
The fans first set off fireworks from the bridges and banks of the Sava River in downtown Belgrade on Saturday evening and then went on a rampage through a Belgrade district where several popular restaurants are located.
Customers ran in panic or locked themselves inside the restaurants as fans demolished chairs and tables, broke windows and clashed with restaurant security guards who the Red Star fans claimed are supporters of the rival Partizan Belgrade club.
Serbia’s Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin told the national RTS television station that about 130 mostly Red Star fans were arrested and that several people were injured during the riots.
“This will no longer be tolerated,” Vulin said. “This scum that shamed our city, Red Star and its celebration deserves to be sharply punished.”
The celebration by thousands of Red Star fans was announced in advance and was tolerated by authorities despite a ban on large gatherings because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Serbia has a history of tolerating hooliganism that often resulted in violence and outbursts of nationalism.
With the return of nationalists to power in Serbia nine years ago, far-right soccer supporters were often seen at pro-government rallies, acting as security while promoting a nationalist political agenda. In exchange, analysts say, the hooligans have been allowed to pursue their illegal business activities.
Several members of a radical Partizan fan group have been arrested since February and accused of murder, kidnapping and drug trafficking in what officials say is a major crackdown against crime.
