NSW Police seeking three men after wild Sydney soccer brawl
Police are looking for two men after a wild soccer brawl in Sydney’s south overnight.
Three men were hospitalised for lacerations in the sickening moments after the National Premier League NSW match between Rockdale Ilinden and Sydney United 58 ended in a 0-0 draw at a sports oval on West Botany Street, just after 5pm.
Horrifying footage shows crates, weapons, flares and building materials being thrown around as supporters of the two rival Sydney football clubs clashed in a violent mass brawl that was broken up by a huge number of NSW Police officers and the riot squad.
NSW Police allege brawlers were armed with metal star pickets, bricks, flares and plastic crates.
A 23-year-old, who was charged on Monday morning with rioting and being armed with intent to commit indictable offence, was allegedly armed with a lawnmower blade, police said.
Police believe the man allegedly found the blade in a garbage bin near the oval.
“These are not sports fans, they are not wanted here and they are not wanted at any future games,” Detective Superintendent Anthony Cooke said of the alleged brawlers.
Footage shows separate fights taking place on the field, in the stands, and out the front of the stadium.

During the brawl on the field, a supporter is heard screaming out: “Kill the c**t.”
In the footage, which is circulating on social media, a flare is thrown up the stairs onto the entrance of the stadium.
A group of men then storm the stadium, with one kicking a large crate towards the entrance.
A man is also seen walking around with an object that appears to be a large knife.
The riot squad was called in to break up the brawl, and a strike force was established to investigate what happened.
Police believe the fighting may have been sparked after a spectator entered the field during the game.
“That clearly sparked some tension,” Superintendent Cooke said.
“But that doesn’t matter – there no excuse to behave in the way these people did and present the risks they did to other people who were there to enjoy what should have been a fantastic game.”
The 23-year-old who was charged has been granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on May 18, with his bail conditions banning him from any Premier League game.
As the investigation continues, police have released descriptions of two men officers believe can assist with inquiries.
The first man is described as having a medium build, and he was wearing a black jacket, grey cap and dark sunglasses. The second man is described as of a medium build, and he was wearing a black jumper.
After the match, Rockdale took to Facebook to post a statement.
“The club is aware of incidents at the conclusion of today’s NPL fixture v Sydney United. The matter is the subject of a police investigation and as such we will not be commenting further pending completion of that investigation, suffice to say that the club strongly does not condone anti social and criminal behaviour.”
