Six arrests made after fan trouble around Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers game

SIX PEOPLE WERE arrested after last Saturday’s SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game between Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers.

The Hoops were 2-0 winners in their opening league fixture of the season thanks to goals from Brandon Miele and Danny North, but the evening was marred by violence from a small number of visiting supporters before and during the match.

In a short statement, the Bit O’Red confirmed that four supporters were charged and added that similar behaviour will not be tolerated by the club in the future.

“Sligo Rovers can confirm there were six arrests relating to incidents involving the away fans before and during the game at The Showgrounds on Saturday night,” it reads.

“Charges have been brought against four of those involved.

As a club we do not tolerate this type of behaviour, which thankfully was an isolated incident involving a very small minority.

“Sligo Rovers along with the Garda will not accept any repeat of this type of behaviour at any future games in The Showgrounds and anyone found attempting to do so will be subject to the full rigours of the law.”

Oxford: Pictures released in bid to identify football hooligans - 09/03/2016

Source : http://myinforms.com/

The 16 images of men police want to speak to in relation to disorder at Oxford United games

Police have released pictures of more than ten football fans following incidents of disorder at Oxford United matches earlier this year.

Officers believe the men in the 16 images might be able to help their inquiries into altercations that led to eight arrests at United’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy home clash with Millwall on February 2 at the Kassam Stadium.

One of the images also relates to disorder that took place when Oxford beat Portsmouth at Fratton Park on January 23.

Thames Valley Police believes the men in the images could have ‘vital information’ about the incidents of disorder.

Sergeant James Blackmore, who is leading the post-match investigation entitled Operation Brazil, said: “We believe the men in these photos may have vital information about incidents of disorders during Oxford’s home match against Millwall and the away match against Portsmouth.

“If you are pictured in these images or know who the men are, please contact police immediately.”

The incidents led to a horse from the force’s mounted section called Odin receiving a cut to his leg from a bottle, while another horse was also hit on the head by a bottle.

Supt Christian Bunt, Local Policing Area (LPA) Commander for Oxford, said: “We have a small minority of people who call themselves Oxford United fans who think it’s acceptable to cause disorder at football matches.

“We will not tolerate this type of behaviour. We will proactively arrest and deal robustly with anyone causing disorder.

Carlos Tevez denies links with Boca hooligans after photo leak - 10/03/2016

Source : http://www.the42.ie/

The Argentina international was snapped at a dinner alongside several heavyweights of the club’s barra, but insisted the event was a one-off.

CARLOS TEVEZ HAS denied he is friendly with Boca Juniors’ violent ‘La 12′ barra brava group but admits a picture of him alongside the hooligans is authentic.
The former Juventus man found himself in the spotlight when a photograph showing him with several ’12′ heavyweights was published on the front page of an Argentine magazine.
Among those raising a New Years toast with Carlitos are Mauro Martin, the head of the hooligan group recently sentenced to six months in prison for charges related to violent incidents at a game; and Rafael Di Zeo, the ex-chief who spent four years behind bars and faces further charges of attempted murder.

“The photo is not faked, but I do not have any relationship with the barra,” Tevez told Fox Sports after the controversial image hit newsstands.
“I was with them just once, when I came to Boca. They asked me to go to a guy’s house to sign some flags for him.
“It seems now like nobody knows anybody, they are all hiding.”
Boca president Daniel Angelici also tried to play down the photo.
“I haven’t talked to him, but a lot of things get invented,” he said after Sunday’s Superclasico draw with River Plate.
“The photo happened, sure, he has a lot of social events.”

Fleetwood Town - Sheffield United - 05/03/2016

Source : http://www.fleetwoodtoday.co.uk

Police probe alleged coin throwing incident at Fleetwood Town game

Lancashire police is investigating claims that an object was thrown at Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Chris Maxwell during Saturday’s 2-2 Highbury draw with Sheffield United.

Maxwell was allegedly struck on the head by a coin thrown from the United end and police revealed that CCTV footage is currently being examined.

A police spokesman said: “There was a coin throwing incident at Fleetwood Town’s game against Sheffield United.

“The club are reviewing CCTV footage to try and identify who has done it.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Fleetwood boss Steven Pressley claims that referee Carl Boyeson told Maxwell it was his own fault that a missile was thrown.

Maxwell was furious that the official had awarded Sheffield United a penalty in injury time, when Town were 2-1 up.

Before Che Adams stepped up to convert the spot-kick, Maxwell appeared to be hit by an object thrown from behind his goal, where the Blades fans were massed.

Maxwell suffered a cut above his eye and Pressley said he will report the referee’s reaction.

“I was really disappointed with the officiating of the game.

“I thought the decisions were extremely poor and what summed up his performance was that Chris Maxwell was hit by an object in the last minute of the game.

“He has actually got a cut above his eye.

Scotland : Ayr United fans convicted of disorder in Kilmarnock town centre following match with rivals in 2014 - 10/03/2016

Source : http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/

Six supporters were found guilty at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week of shouting, swearing and challenging others to fight.

A group of Ayr United fans have been convicted of causing disorder in Kilmarnock town centre following a cup tie clash at Rugby Park.

Six supporters were found guilty at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week of shouting, swearing and challenging others to fight after the Ayrshire derby in August 2014.

Stephen Reid, 29, of Hayhill, Marc Dunlop, 28, of Meadowpark Drive, Mark Robson, 26, of Gould Street, Stuart Robson, 19, of Elba Street, Aaron Aitken, 23, of Main Road, Springside, and Aaron Harkness, 18, of Bonnyton Avenue, Drongan, had all denied the charge.

During the trial, which was part-heard over several days, the court heard that a group of suspected United casuals, being escorted to supporters’ buses by police, was twice “ambushed” by Kilmarnock fans.

Constable Adrian Kelly, 46, at the time a member of Police Scotland’s dedicated football unit, said that the first hint of trouble came before the game at the Portmann Hotel in Portland Road, Kilmarnock.

He and a colleague went to the hotel around 6.50pm to find a group of Kilmarnock “risk fans”.

Constable Kelly said that these particular supporters could be differentiated from normal fans or “scarfers”.

“They are what you would regard as football casuals,” he said.

The officers heard a shout of: “The Ayr lot are outside.”

After warning the Kilmarnock casuals to stay inside, they “ran out the front door”.

Constable Kelly said: “We observed a group of fans spread across the front of the pub. They were chanting ‘come on, Killie’.”

Officers followed the same group to Rugby Park, where they were kept under observation. At half-time a group of Ayr fans left the stadium.

Constable Kelly told the court: “We updated the match commander that we were going to go with them because of what had happened outside the Portmann and indicated there may well be some other disorder.”

The group was refused entry to several town centre pubs, but
eventually ended up at O’Shannon’s in Titchfield Street where they stayed until around 10pm.

They were then escorted towards the Glencairn retail park where the Ayr United buses were parked. Further down the road, said Constable Kelly, “we became aware of a group running towards the group we were escorting and then observed the police dogs being deployed.”

He described a 30-second confrontation, during which some Ayr fans burst through the police lines, with chants of “come ahead”.

Constable Kelly said: “At that point the Ayr United fans became quite victorious, as if they had chased the Kilmarnock fans away.

“There were chants of ‘Killie ran away’.”

A similar confrontation took place near Tesco.

Later Inspector Colin Convery, 42, said that police believed groups of Kilmarnock and Ayr United fans were planning to meet up for a pre-arranged fight.

“My own interpretation was that they were looking for a fight. There was quite clearly an arrangement for some sort of meet to take place.”

Sheriff Derek Livingston fined the six £150 each.

Borussia Dortmund - Tottenham - 10/03/2016

Source : http://www.standard.co.uk/

Tottenham fury as fans are injured amid chaos before Borussia Dortmund clash

Tottenham have expressed their concerns to Borussia Dortmund about the policing that left “panicking” away fans fearing for their safety before last night’s Europa League tie in Germany.

There were unconfirmed reports of 17 supporters suffering injuries and one who had to be removed on a stretcher by medics. Fans’ accounts suggested any attempts to check tickets or search those entering the ground were simply abandoned.

Tottenham have spoken to Dortmund officials to make clear their unhappiness at the stewarding and police tactics, which included the use of pepper spray.

One eyewitness spoke of fights between stewards and supporters as they sought to enter the Nordtribune (North Stand), which housed the 3,500 Tottenham fans before and after kick-off.

Anthony Lombardi, 34, of Colindale, told Standard Sport: “People dropped to the floor and were stood on, panic set in and just getting into the stadium safely became the most important thing. I was never searched on entering the ground, nor did I have my ticket scanned. I was very lucky. It could have gone totally wrong. There was a serious breakdown somewhere.

“There were some punches thrown by Spurs fans, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a set of stewards throw punches back, kick random people and generally swing at any fan who came near them.”

John Wenham, 26, of Enfield, said: “I arrived at the ground at 6.15pm local time and there were no directions at all towards the away end. There was a completely disorganised crush outside the away end and nobody told us why.”

A Tottenham spokesman said: “The misdirection of our fans by police along with the closing of turnstiles created a potentially dangerous situation. The use of pepper sprays was completely unnecessary and unacceptable. We arranged for our fans to meet with officials of Borussia Dortmund immediately after the game. We have also spoken to officials at the club and they have taken on board our concerns.”

Other Spurs fans said they were held outside the ground for nearly an hour, meaning they did not reach their seats until about 30 minutes after the game started, at 7pm local time.

Nothern Ireland : Derry City - Cork City - 11/03/2016

Source : http://www.eveningecho.ie/

Cork City FC fans attacked with batons and stones in Derry

CORK CITY fans were saved from a vicious attack after a soccer match in Derry last night.

Local residents came to the fans’ aid and took them into their homes and businesses after they were suddenly surrounded by a mob armed with batons and stones.

Sinn Féin Cllr for Derry, Patricia Logue witnessed the incident on Brandywell Rd near the stadium, and helped local residents and business owners to protect the fans.

She said that approximately 150 youths, some armed with batons and stones, tried to attack approximately 30 – 40 Cork City Fans.

“It was the most vicious attack, one that this community never wants to see again, it was awful,” said Cllr Logue.

She commended the local Brandywell community who stepped in to save the fans, some of whom were hit while they stood between the attacking youths and the Cork City fans.

“Local residents and business owners opened their doors when they realised what was going on, and we managed to get a lot of the Cork City fans into one bar where we closed the shutters to keep them safe before calling taxis to take them back to their hotel,” she said.

Cllr Logue said that she did not believe the attacking gang of youths were Derry City supporters, and she believes that the youths are equally likely to terrorise their own communities. She described them as hooligans and said that she believes that the attack was orchestrated.

She said that if the residents had not stepped in, the attack could have had a much more serious outcome.

“Even one kick can do a lot of damage, but luckily no one was seriously injured, it could have been a lot worse.”

“This attack is not reflective of the Brandywell community, the people who attacked the fans are disguisting, but the community in Brandywell came to their aid,” she said.

Cork City fans were attending last night’s Airtricity Premier Division match with Derry City.

Arrests as fans clash after Pompey defeat

RIVAL fans clashed throwing punches in a fight following Pompey’s defeat.

Police horses from Thames Valley Police had to wade in during the scuffle in Goldsmith Avenue at its junction with Talbot Road, Southsea.

It comes after the Blues were defeated 3-0 by Newport County at Fratton Park.

Three Pompey fans were arrested along with one Newport County fan during the day.

Two of those arrests were made during the public order incident in Goldsmith Avenue after the match, police have said.

Sgt Rob Sutton, of Portsmouth police, said: ‘A handful of supporters from both sides came to blows at Goldsmith Avenue at its junction with Talbot Road, after what was a rather well-mannered game between fans.’

‘Arrests were for drunk and disorderly, a racial incident and breaching a dispersal order.

‘No injuries were sustained.’

He added: ‘Good work by Hampshire and Gwent Police intelligence officers meant we were able to identify potential incidents and stop them from happening.

‘The stewards did a great job with the fans too, engagement as well as identifying troublemakers.’

The match had been classified as a potential risk game due to previous encounters.

Six arrests at Wolves v Birmingham derby

West Midlands Police praised the majority of fans, but said that a 'small disorder' broke out as fans were leaving the stadium.

The disruption took place around the Stafford Street area and was quickly contained, police said.

Chief Inspector Nick Rowe, who led the police operation, emphasised the good behaviour of the majority of the 21,464 supporters who attended the match.

He said: “The actions of a few should not mar today’s local derby. The majority of the day passed peacefully and successfully.

“However, action will always be taken against those few who don’t follow the law. Our officers were quick to respond and dispel those intent on confrontation.

“An investigation is now underway. If there were people who saw something that could help our investigation or who have mobile phone footage of the disorder then they should contact the football unit on 101 at the earliest opportunity."

Blues fans were prevented from drinking in city-centre pubs ahead of the game in a bid to prevent a repeat of the mass brawl which saw five men arrested after the same fixture last season.

Swindon Town - Millwal FC - 13/03/2016

Arrests made as Swindon Town and Millwall fans clash at the County Ground

ARRESTS were made this weekend after football fans clashed at the County Ground.

Police officers lined the streets following the 2-2 draw between Swindon Town and Millwall.

As fans filed out of the County Ground, an overwhelming police presence, including Metropolitan officers specially drafted in for the operation, formed a protective line between Swindon Town and Millwall fans.

Baying crowds were kept separated before Millwall supporters were escorted to the train station.

And Wiltshire Police confirmed three arrests were made during the evening, all for low level offences.

One Broadgreen resident and football fan, who did not wish to be named said the post-match events had ruined his match experience.

“We had expected the worst. It was terrifying outside. It’s a shame some fans have to spoil it for the rest of us. Who do they think they are, pushing people around and throwing their weight about isn’t the way to behave, especially when you come to enjoy yourself on a weekend," he said.

“I’ve come with my little boy today and I am disgusted with the language being used by the fans and all the gestures they’re doing. It’s a football match not a school playground.”

Multiple police vans could be seen circling the Broadgreen and town centre areas in the aftermath of the match.

Town pubs, including the Merlin in Drove Road displayed signs saying only home fans were welcome.

Match commander Superintendent Mark Sellers said adequate police presence had ensured the game had passed smoothly.

“ Three low level arrests for low level disorder, tone of game as expected, sufficient police and stewards on duty to deal with all eventualities and game has passed successfully,” he said.

Acting inspector Rachel Hardy, from Wiltshire Police said the scale of the operation kept things under control.

“It was a large operation and the large majority of football fans behaviour was acceptable and were able to enjoy the match. A small number of fans behaviour was inappropriate and this was dealt with.

“A significant police presence, which kept the fans separate was the way in which it was dealt with, meaning there were low-level public disorder arrests but nothing more serious.”

More than 1,100 hooligans free to travel to Euro 2016 after banning orders expire - 13/03/2016

Source : http://www.mirror.co.uk/

Hundreds of convicted football offenders will be able to go to France in June after their orders banning them from travelling abroad when England play expired

More than 1,100 hooligans banned from following England abroad are now free to travel to Euro 2016.

Courts can order troublemakers to hand over their passports for the duration of foreign tournaments. But many bans have expired.

Records obtained by the Mirror show 3,200 fans with football-related convictions were barred from travel to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

A similar number were banned from the 2006 contest in Germany.

But the number with active travel bans has dwindled to 1,832, leaving hundreds of convicted football offenders able to go to France in June.

Another 221 fans have court action pending and are likely to be banned before the tournament kicks off.

Most bans are put in place for three to 10 years depending on the offence.

An estimated 100,000 England fans travelled to Germany for the World Cup 10 years ago and it is believed tens of thousands from England, Wales and Northern Ireland will head to France.

England’s first group game in Marseille against Russia will bring back memories of the France 98 World Cup where around 500 fans rioted.

Both England and fans of then group opponents Tunisia were involved in running battles with riot cops.

This time, the French authorities have laid on their biggest ever peacetime security operation to cope with the additional threat of terrorism following the Paris attacks last year.

Banning orders have greatly reduced disorder at tournaments abroad since being introduced in 1999. But A Foreign Office survey found a third of UK supporters have no accommodation booked. Many are without tickets.

England have 10,720 tickets for the opener against Russia on June 11 in Marseilles; 6,080 for the Wales clash on June 16 in Lens and just 6,720 for the Slovakia match four days later.

Football Liaison Office John Sykes, based at the British Embassy in Paris, said: “We urge fans to think ahead and book accommodation and travel.”

Martin Redmond from the Foreign Office added: “We want everyone to enjoy the competition whether in stadiums; fan zones or local bars. But wherever they plan to be, it is important supporters do the right preparations.”

A total of 1,452 fans with convictions for soccer violence were banned from the World Cup in Brazil. All but three were barred due to disorder at home.

That remains the case for Euro 2016, with the vast majority of banning orders for violence at domestic matches.
