Police seek Chelsea fan after 'Arsenal supporters attacked with beer cans' following Community Shield clash
Police today issued CCTV of Chelsea fan who is alleged to have attacked a group of Arsenal supporters with beer cans after the teams clashed at Wembley.
Officers said the violence broke out as fans travelled back from the Gunners' 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Community Shield on August 2.
When a train reached Watford Junction Arsenal fans were singing songs on the platform, police said.
Detective Constable David Peek went on: "A group of four Chelsea fans got off the train, and one of them broke away from the group, throwing a can of beer at the Arsenal fans.
“He then charged at the group, hitting one of them over the head with a carrier bag of full beer cans.”
The victim, a 41-year-old from Hemel Hempstead, was knocked over by the blow before being pulled back onto the train by concerned friends.
Police said the attacker had a "distinctive" tattoo of the European Cup on his calf, and criticised what he called a "mindless minority" of football fans who are "intent on violence".
DC Peek added: "We are committed to tackling this thuggery, and I am today asking for the public’s help."
