Everton fans arrested after football hooligans clash outside London pub - 02/07/2015
Source : http://www.standard.co.uk/
Police have made a string of arrests linked to a violent clash of football hooligans outside a north London pub.
Scotland Yard said seven Everton fans - men and boys aged between 15 and 54 - had been detained on suspicion of violent disorder following targeted raids in Merseyside and Sussex.
It came after violence broke out between supporters of three sides at the Millers pub in Caledonian Road on the evening of May 16.
Police said around 30 Everton fans attacked a smaller group of Newcastle and Hull supporters. All three clubs had played away games in London that afternoon.
Some 12 minutes of violence ensued before police arrived, with fans exchanging blows and glasses being thrown across the street.
The landlord of the Miller pub, who did not want to be named, later told the Daily Mirror: “They weren’t even targeting other football fans, but innocent people just passing by or standing outside drinking. It was a thoroughly nasty and shocking attack."
It ended with a 51-year-old man being taken to hospital, though no serious injuries were reported, the Met said.
CCTV cameras and witnesses with phones captured much of the fracas, enabling police to trace the suspects.
This morning a series of co-ordinated raids were carried out at seven addresses across Liverpool, Wirral and Warrington and in Crawley, Sussex, as part of a joint operation between the Met and Merseyside Police.
Operation Arrowtip lead Det Ch Insp Andy Barnes said: "Operation Arrowtip is the Met's response to football related crime and disorder.
"Violence amongst supporters has no place in football; be it before, during or after a match.
"These investigations that lead to operations like today show that no matter where you are from, or who you support, UK policing will work together to identify suspects and take action against them."
Three men were also arrested on the day of the incident, police said, including a 52-year-old man on suspicion of three counts of assault and two men on suspicion of affray.
All 10 men are currently on police bail.

Beitar supporters who threw smoke bombs, flares and firecrackers at a Europa League qualifying round match in Belgium.
Nine-man Beitar were thrashed 5-1 at Charleroi in the first leg tie on Thursday. The match was held up at the start when fans threw dozens of incendiary devices onto the pitch, enveloping it in smoke.
Towards the end of the match, Charleroi goalkeeper Nicolas Penneteau was hit by a hard object thrown from the crowd, which forced another delay. Beitar can expect severe punishment from European football's governing body, UEFA.
"I am ashamed ... I have decided to end my involvement with Israeli football and am returning to the United States ... I will appoint a trustee to run the club until somebody is willing to buy it," Eli Tabib said in a statement.
Beitar are a bastion of Israel's political right-wing and a group of supporters known as "La Familia", that the club has been unable to control, have been openly abusive to Israel's Arab minority.
Israeli media said some Charleroi fans had made Hitler salutes during the fracas. Beitar coach Slobodan Drapic said Beitar's fans had been provoked, although he did not explain why some had come to the match with the flares and smoke bombs. It was unclear how so many devices were smuggled into the stadium.
The club is the only major Israeli outfit that has never employed an Arab player due to fan pressure and this was one of the grievances that the Palestinian FA cited in its call for Israel to be suspended from FIFA this year.
Beitar have by far the worst disciplinary record in Israel's Premier League and over the past decade have faced about two dozen hearings and received various punishments, including points deductions, fines and matches behind closed doors
