Colombia & Costa Rica fans clash ahead of Copa America match
A number of rival supporters have sparked off a minor brawl ahead of the two sides’ tournament opener, with police believed to have arrested more than 20 people
Police in Argentina have arrested more than 20 people, believed to be a mix of Colombia and Costa Rica fans, who are alleged to have clashed ahead of Saturday's Copa America match.
Reports from the host country claim rival fans scuffled at a bus station in San Salvador de Jujuy.
Around 12 people of Colombian nationality were detained by authorities after witnesses made allegations that some were carrying knives.
Bus shelters and windows were smashed following trouble, but it is said no one was injured.
Police were quick to intervene and disperse the crowd as trouble subsided.

Cardiff fans jailed for Chelsea FA Cup violence - 05/07/2011
Source : BBC News
Three Cardiff fans have been jailed for their part in a mass brawl after an FA Cup match against Chelsea.
A judge at London's Isleworth Crown Court heard there were violent clashes between rival supporters near Stamford Bridge in February last year.
Matthew Alm, 27, of Fairwater, Cardiff, admitted two counts of affray and was jailed for 10 months.
Adrian Horrell, 32, of Bargoed, and Matthew Brown, 38, of Llanishen, Cardiff, were jailed for eight months.
They both admitted one count of affray.
A total of 96 supporters from both sides have been charged with offences.
The court heard hundreds of fans charged each other, hurled missiles and fought in the street before and after the match around the Fulham Road and the King's Road area.
The chaos overwhelmed police and caused innocent bystanders and other supporters to fear for their safety.
Jailing the three men and handing each a six year football banning order, Judge Martin Edmunds, said: "Clearly a message has to go out that this sort of behaviour is not acceptable."
Horrell, Alm and Brown, were all caught on CCTV after police looked through hours of footage.
'Sheer volume' Alm, who has attended more than 700 matches, was "behaving aggressively" and had to be pushed away by police.
He was in the midst of the clashing supporters and was seen lending his "weight" to the chaotic "surges," the judge said.
Horrell and Brown were filmed by the police amid the surging and brawling fans in west London.
Thousands of Cardiff supporters had travelled to London to watch the game, the first time the teams had met for 18 years, and which Chelsea won 4-1.
The prosecutor added: "Some of them appeared, as with some of the Chelsea supporters, more interested in confrontation than the match being played at Stamford Bridge."
"There was a police presence, as is the norm at football matches, but at that stage they struggled to keep order because of the sheer volume of supporters that were violent and clashing with each other."

Violence mars Celtic match in Sydney
Eleven people were arrested -- including one for assaulting police -- after crowd violence marred an exhibition match between Scottish giant Celtic and Australian side the Central Coast Mariners in Sydney Saturday night.
Forty-seven fans were refused entry to ANZ Stadium for drunkenness, while another 27 were later ejected, police said.
The 11 arrests, which included two women, came as a result of people invading the pitch as the Mariners earned a surprise 1-0 win, with the alleged offenders facing fines and bans from the stadium.
"It is disappointing that drunken louts are under the impression they can attend these events and spoil everyone else's night," said acting superintendent Mick Rochester.
"The majority of fans were at the ground to see a game of football -- not to have the match spoiled by idiots."

Zamalek to contact authorities over detained fans
Zamalek seek release of fans arrested following crowd trouble in a league game against Wadi Degla
Egyptian football club Zamalek said Saturday they would contact authorities to release fans arrested after clashing with security personnel during the 1-1 draw with Wadi Degla in the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday.
A brawl erupted between the few thousand spectators who attended the match at Cairo Stadium and police forces for a few minutes before the start of the second half. The reason of the clash is unknown.
Angry fans hurled stones and bottles at policemen, two of whom were injured, while Zamalek were 1-0 down. The clashes continued outside the stadium amid growing tensions in domestic football.
Around 18 men from Zamalek’s hardcore following were arrested.
“Chief Executive Alaa Mekled has been authorised by the club to contact the authorities to end that problem,” Zamalek said in a brief statement on their official website.
Crowd trouble in Egypt has been common since the resumption of the domestic league following January’s popular revolution that ended Hosni Mubarak’s 30-year authoritarian rule.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) is being widely criticised in the local media for handing out "lenient punishments" for culprits.
Zamalek failed to end a seven-year league drought despite opening a six-point lead over Ahly at the halfway stage of the season. The Red Devils eventually clinched a seventh consecutive title with one match to spare after crushing already-relegated Arab Contractors 5-1 on Thursday.

Chants charges dropped against Blackburn Rovers fans - 14/07/2011
Source : Thisislancashire.co.uk
TWO men charged with chanting racist and homophobic remarks at players during a Blackburn Rovers match have had the case against them dropped.
Graham Gooden, 42, and Craig Rhodes, 41, were reported to police by fellow supporters during the FA Cup game against Queens Park Rangers on January 8.
They were arrested and charged with racially aggravated harassment and using threatening words towards Rovers player Morten Gamst Pedersen.
But their accusers failed to turn up at court to back up their claims and defence solicitor Damien Pickup successfully argued that the case should be dropped.
Mr Gooden, of New Wellington Close, and Mr Rhodes, of Broadway Street, both Blackburn, first appeared in court on April 3 when they pleaded not guilty.

Turkish football fans clashed with police after the chairman of Fenerbahce was jailed amid match-fixing claims.
Fenerbahce supporters threw stones and bottles at police and journalists outside the courthouse in Besiktas where Aziz Yildirim was jailed.
Reporters were forced to seek shelter in the court building while officers responded with tear gas, scattering the protesters.
Fenerbahce boss Aziz Yildirim is among 26 people remanded in custody following an investigation into 19 matches. The club have denied any wrongdoing.
Three other Fenerbahce directors, the president of rival club Trabzonspor and a director of the Bursaspor team were among those arrested and questioned.
Fenerbahce won the league title last season, edging out Trabzonspor on the final day of the campaign.

Three fans charged following Darlington v Newcastle pitch invasion - 16/07/2011
Source : Guardian.co.uk
Three supporters who were arrested after a pitch invasion during Newcastle United's pre-season friendly at Darlington have been charged by police. A 22-year-old man, a 21-year-old and a 17-year-old were detained during the trouble at the Darlington Arena on Friday night.
Durham police said the 22-year-old, who is from Gateshead, was charged with going on to a play area and a public order offence. The 21-year-old, who is from Newcastle, was charged with going on to a play area and disorder. Both men will appear before Darlington magistrates court on 26 July. The 17-year-old youth was charged with going on to a play area and will appear at Darlington youth court on 5 August.
Earlier, the Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew, condemned the "appalling" behaviour of the fans who invaded the pitch after Sammy Ameobi's 55th-minute second goal for the visitors. Pardew claimed the supporters, who were responsible for causing a 10-minute delay in the match – which Newcastle won 2-0 – had brought shame on the club.
He said: "Apart from the frustrating disruption to what was a very good game of football and an important part of our pre-season preparation, the pitch invasion was totally unacceptable and has brought shame on everyone connected with Newcastle United.
"We came to play a football match and to provide entertainment for a family audience – instead we witnessed some truly appalling behaviour which damages the reputation of this great club and the vast majority of our true and law-abiding supporters."
The Newcastle managing director, Derek Llambias, issued a statement which read: "On behalf of everyone at Newcastle United, we wholly condemn the behaviour of a number of our supporters who invaded the pitch. This behaviour is not typical of the vast majority of our fans, however this incident gives a poor impression of Newcastle and its loyal supporters."
The Darlington manager, Mark Cooper, said the trouble was "disappointing" but was relieved no players were injured.
Police could not confirm reports of an isolated outbreak of fighting between fans during the match.

Sunderland: Football thugs facing red card - 17/07/2011
Source : Shieldsgazette.com
South Tyneside soccer thugs have been warned they will be given a red card if they try to follow their team abroad.
Sunderland AFC flew out to Germany yesterday for a pre-season tour which kicks off tomorrow with a match against third division side Arminia Bielefeld.
And Northumbria Police is warning any fans with banning orders not to travel. Supporters have been told to report to their designated police stations to hand in their passports.
Steve Bruce’s side will face a tougher test on Wednesday against Bundesliga side Hannover 96, who finished fourth last season and include former Middlesbrough player Emanuel Pogatetz. The final game is next Saturday against Borrusia Mönchengladbach, who struggled to stay in the German top flight last season.
Of the 54 supporters who currently have bans, three failed to report to police ahead of the squad flying out.
They were arrested and two received cautions, while the third was bailed.
All 54 will be required to report again on each of the match days.
Temporary Superintendent Bruce Storey said: “These arrests show that we will actively enforce banning orders, not only for this pre-season tour, but also for the 2012 Olympics and European Championships.
“We will take action against anyone failing to comply – they will not slip through the net.
“Football banning orders are there to prevent those intent on causing violence or disorder from attending matches, meaning that genuine fans can go to a game and watch it safely.
“We do not tolerate violence or disorder at football matches, and will use all means at our disposal to combat this sort of behaviour.”
The Germany tour brings to an end three successive years of pre-season training in Portugal’s Algarve for the Black Cats.

It seems Helmond Sport will not play for their open day; their game against the belgian side Charleroi was refused by police for security reasons, due to the bad reputation of Charleroi supporters.
