FC Knokke - RSC Anderlecht - Friendly match - 09/07/2001

Source: Belgian newspapers

The match was stopped at the 72nd minute as there were riots between Anderlecht lads and Bruges lads - about 30- who came on this place especially for making trouble. The local canteen was totally smashed up and fans threw chairs and tables to each other. After these riots 6 Brussels fans and 2 Bruges ones were arrested.

Brondby IF - Aberdeen - Friendly match - 14/07/2001

Source: An Aberdeen local newspaper + mail

trouble between Aberdeen and Rangers fa An Aberdeen fan was arrested after trying to start a fight in Denmark last night. The 30-year-old and three Brondby fans were fined for violent behaviour following the friendly between the Danish side and the Dons in Copenhagen. All four were later released after paying a fine of around £33. Football chiefs praised the vast majority of Aberdeen fans who walked away from brick-throwing Danish football hooligans. A steward was injured after one of the Danes, who was wearing an England football shirt, hurled bricks and stones at the Aberdeen support. Dons security chief John Morgan said Aberdeen fans helped the injured steward before going back into the stadium while Danish police dispersed a group of around 20 youths. (what they are trying to say is that Danish OB rescued Aberdeen from 20 Danish kids). Trouble broke out after Brondby beat Aberdeen 2-1 in a pre-season friendly last night. Captain Edwin Johansen of the Glostrop Police department said: "There was one Aberdeen fan and three Brondby fans who couldn't behave. They were arrested and fined and released last night and after that we had a quiet night. "They wanted to fight each other but we were successful in stopping it. They were fined for violent behaviour." Dons spokesman Dave McDermid, said: "This is the first I have heard of this.
"The news we've been getting so far is that it's plaudits all round for the Dons supporters. It would be very unfortunate if somebody has spoiled that." Evening Express sports writer Charlie Allan spotted at least one man wearing an Aberdeen Casuals baseball cap (trendy bastards these Scots) in the city but there was no reported trouble other than the stadium incident. Dons security chief John Morgan said: "The Aberdeen fans were absolutely magnificent." Mr Morgan said he understood the Dane in the English shirt had been trying to rile Aberdeen fans all day. He asked the travelling support if they were "up for it" but fans said they didn't want any trouble. It was feared Dons casuals could clash with Rangers fans who were in nearby Copenhagen for another friendly earlier in the day. But there were no reports of trouble between Aberdeen and Rangers fans.

An Aberdeen lad-view:

The report you have published regarding the Brondby - Aberdeen trouble is not factual. Please remove it or at least change it immediately. The following parts of the article (originally published in the local aberdeen newspaper) have been added by one of our enemies "what they are trying to say is that Danish OB rescued Aberdeen from 20 Danish kids" and "trendy bastards these scots" should be removed. I also don't know where you got your report from but the ASC were NOT chased, we have reports from our own lads and the SSU lads and they agree that the fight was more or less 50/50 and that is very good when you know there was only about 15-20 aberdeen fighting against 35-40 SSU.

Five injured as fighting erupts at train station - 14/07/2001

Source: A local newspaper

Five people needed hospital treatment after violence erupted at a railway station on the weekend. Transport police arrested four people alleged to be involved in the trouble at Chorley station. More than 40 people are thought to have taken part in fighting which broke out near midnight on Saturday. The fighting began after a gang of more than 20 men started throwing bricks and stones across the station at another group who were waiting to board a train to Bolton. The gang, aged between 20 and 35, then moved across to the platform and started to reign punches and kicks on the people waiting.
By the time transport police arrived, most of the offenders had fled. It is believed that rival football supporters from Blackburn and Bolton had clashed after a number of confrontations during last seasons division 1 campaign. Five people were taken to Chorley Hospital suffering from injuries, including a fractured jaw, cuts to the head, severe bruising and a broken nose. Transport police today appealed for information about the incident, which they believe was arranged before hand.

Bocholt - SK Lommel - Friendly match - 15/07/2001

Source: A Lommel fans forum

Prior to the game a group of 35 Genk fans (rivals of Lommel team) were controled by local police forces, as they made a toe-to-toe with only 8 Lommel lads. As half part of this Genk mob has stadiums bans, they left the city. So, after the match about 15 Genk-lads stayed there and a short toe-to-toe took place between 7 of them and about 40 Lommel lads (a real good number for this small firm).

Eintracht Frankfurt - Millwall FC - Friendly match - 18/07/2001

Source: Reuters

Thirteen Millwall fans have been arrested in Frankfurt after a game was cancelled for fear of violence. About 60 fans spent the day drinking in bars in the city's red-light district, despite the cancellation of the friendly match with Eintracht Frankfurt.
About 30 men began hurling glasses and tables after an argument in a bar, police spokesman Juergen Linker says. He says police were attacked as they took 11 people into custody and one officer was slightly hurt. Mr Linker says four people are in custody while police consider bringing charges of disturbing the peace, causing bodily harm, drug possession and obstructing police officers. Seven others have been released without charge.

Shrewsbury Town - Wolverhampton Wanderers - Friendly match - 23/07/2001

Source: A local newspaper

Shrewsbury Town bosses today publicly apologised to fans caught up in violence as fierce fighting marred a pre-season friendly against local rivals Wolves. Between 30 and 40 people were involved in a running brawl on the Riverside terrace of the Gay Meadow stadium as Wolves and Shrewsbury fans clashed just before half-time on Saturday. Wolves fans had been unwittingly allowed into areas used by Shrewsbury supporters after duping club officials into thinking they were home supporters. They were left in the Wakeman End and told they would be moved into the opposite Station End at half-time. But some fans tried to walk around the edge of the pitch just before half-time and fighting flared when they were taunted by a section of Shrewsbury supporters in the Riverside stand. Fighting flared for two minutes before stewards and police controlled the situation. Youngsters and other supporters ran for cover as the violence broke out. A young boy and a steward suffered minor injuries in the brawl, which forced the referee to end the first half three minutes early. Shrewsbury lost the match 2-0. Keith Sayfritz, Shrewsbury Town director, today said: "We can only apologise for the shock some of our supporters experienced, particularly those with young families, and we will do everything we can to make sure those responsible are brought to justice. "It is the first incident of its kind at the Meadow for 14 years. I think this pushes forward the case for an all-seater stadium as quickly as possible." A police spokesperson today confirmed that a number of arrests had been made. Mike Ashton, operations manager, said the club was misled into believing the group were Shrewsbury supporters. It was only when the the first Wolves goal went in that officials realised there were away supporters in with home fans. "We decided to leave them where they were during the first half because if we had gone in, it would have created even more difficulties," said Mr Ashton. "We negotiated with them that at half-time they would transfer to the section where they should have been. "But five minutes before half-time a small group started to make their way on to the Riverside and around the terraces. "We immediately put a cordon of stewards to stop them going on the Riverside. The stewards were totally overwhelmed. "When they got half way down all hell broke loose. They reacted to the Shrewsbury supporters and jumped on to the terraces. The police came and within a couple of minutes everything was under control."
He added: "This was an extreme situation. Our stewards did a magnificent job."

KAA Gent - Paris SG - Intertoto Cup - 25/07/2001

Source: A fans' website

Prior to the game some rumors announced that Bruges-lads will be present with the aim to have a confrontation with French lads but there was not one them. So, before kick-off it was a local group of about 30 top-lads who were waiting near the visitors stand. As they saw only ultras, nothing happened. At the end of the game, a group of 18 PSG-lads went on the pitch and were arrested. Outside the stadium it was a group of about 60 locals who were waiting but nothing happened.

Aberdeen - Glasgow Rangers - 28/07/2001

Source: A national newspaper

Trouble flared following the Aberdeen v Rangers match on Saturday as more than 100 rival fans gathered at the beach. Police quickly called for back-up and about 40 officers supported by the dog unit managed to control and disperse the crowd quickly. Several arrests were made and officers said inquiries were continuing to identify those involved in the disturbance. Officers said the so-called "casual" supporters of both clubs were involved. They said the trouble-makers, who were not dressed in football regalia, were involved in a few scuffles and began throwing coins and other missiles, although no one was injured. A spokesman said: "Some casuals had gone down to the beach area and there was a confrontation but it was pretty short-lived. "The area was heavily policed, so there was not much of a chance for anything to happen." One female witness, who was at the beach with a friend, said: "We had just gone to get an ice-cream and something had obviously happened as a load of people came running out of Cafe Continental and started clashing with police. Then more officers came along with big, scary dogs and the police got it under control quickly." Supporters of both clubs were out in force for the Pitoddrie game, which kicked off the new season. Aberdeen lost 3-0. Police said a dozen people were arrested for minor offences including drunkenness. Some of them are expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today.

An Aberdeen-lad view:

Aberdeen met early doors (40 boys out at 10.30) This grew steadily during the day to about 160-180 maximum. Another smaller mob (around 20) are drinking round the corner. (This is probably the biggest mob Aberdeen have had out for 5 years) OB all over the place, filming everyone. Some of our lads were in touch with the huns and were told they werent coming into Aberdeen til after the game kicked off (to avoid OB) Our mob left the bar at 2.30 approx and began walking towards the Green where the majority of the huns scarfers congregate. place is heavily policed but some lads manage to steam through the OB and there are brief scuffles with the huns throwing bottles and retreating into a bar. A few ASC are arrested (later charged with breach of the peace) Aberdeen are then split up and escorted to the ground. Most ASC leave the game when the huns score their second goal and everyone meets up at the broadhill bar. the bar is busy as fuck and loads of lads are outside drinking pints. theres about 150 lads and maybe 50-60 others who are just up for having a pop at the huns. Some other asc are drinking up town. Wait around for a while til most OB have cleared off. Start walking over cricket pitches to beach where huns are drinking. About 160+ now. mainly boys but about 20 hangers on. lads at the front start running to get to ICF before OB arrive. Come up onto beach front and there they are (about 40) OB are coming in from all directions. Kicks off a bit but OB are well on top. OB escort ASC away from beach and escort rangers to train. About a dozen asc are arrested. About 10 aberdeen hang around beach and later waste 7 or 8 rangers fans.(Aberdeen never target scarfers unless they are rangers, who in my opinion are gamer than their mob) A train to Glasgow is held back for the huns who are involved in minor clashes with a handful of asc at the station

The game Liege - Charleroi banned for security reasons - 31/07/2001

Source: Belgian newspapers

Normally, this belgian friendly match, opposing Liege to Charleroi will be played in Bas-Oha, near Liege, but the local mayor refused this game, as he was affraid of riots between Charleroi lads and Standard lads. In a second time, another place was proposed for this game: Jambes, a small town near Namur, but for a second time it was a negative answer. Finally this match was not played.

Millwall fans arrested in Germany - 19/07/2001

Source: RTE.IE

Six Millwall fans face prosecution in Germany following violent clashes on the Lions' pre-season tour to Germany. The English fans were involved in ugly confrontations with rival English supporters in Frankfurt's city centre at around 11pm, when bottles and glasses were hurled as around thirty supporters fought outside a pub.

The club, managed by Mark McGhee, were due to play two pre-season friendlies against Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz earlier this week, but both fixtures were called-off because German police feared the risk of violence would be too great. Eleven fans were arrested following the skirmishes, with six to be charged with resisting arrest and causing injury to others.

A police spokesman confirmed: "The supporters were drinking in a pub and started to fight each other. No serious damage was done to the pub or any other private property, but an officer was injured while arresting."

TROUBLE FLARES IN PUB AFTER MAN CITY MATCH

TROUBLE flared up in a pub in Halifax town centre after a friendly soccer match.
Smartly dressed Manch-ester City fans threw ashtrays and glasses in the direction of a group of regulars in The Pump Room, New Road, on Saturday night.
One man in his early fifties suffered a cut to his ear, while others, including an off duty member of staff received minor cuts.
The fracas started when a pocket ofCity supporters stayed on in the pub to celebrate their team s2 - 1 victory over Halifax Town at the Shay.
One travelling supporter, dressed in a suit, confronted a manbefore head butting him. A group of two or three City supporters in their late 30s then began throwing ashtrays and beer glasses against the wall.
Licensee Eddie McNicol-Geater said that shards of shattered glass were sprayed all over the pub.
There were about four local women and two couples who were just enjoying a drink.
Mr McNicol-Geater had been forced to close the pub earlier in the day when travelling supporters became abusive after a beer pump failure.
When he reopened most of the fans had caught their train home.
Inspector Michael Ashton of Calderdale Police said they were very happy with how the day had gone.
There were no problems at all from a police perspective and there were only three arrests. All were alcohol related, not particularly related to football.
More than two thirds of the 3,041 people who attended Saturday s match were Manchester City fans and a further 500 supporters were turned away because they had no ticket.
Tony Kniveton, Halifax Town general manager, said he was sorry to hear about the incident.
