Ajax Amsterdam - PEC Zwolle - Dutch Cup final - 20/04/2014

Favourites Ajax routed by Zwolle as violence mars Dutch final
PEC Zwolle secured a sensational 5-1 upset triumph over hot favourites Ajax Amsterdam in a drama-filled Dutch Cup final in Rotterdam on Sunday which was twice halted after fans threw fireworks on to the pitch.
The game was stopped just after the start for an half hour as fireworks and smoke bombs damaged the pitch and set an advertising board alight.
Police said 19 people were arrested before kick-off for carrying fireworks and insulting behaviour, but it did not stop an avalanche of projectiles being thrown on to the field from the start, causing an immediate delay.
The game resumed long enough for Ricardo van Rhijn to head home a corner off the underside of the crossbar and put Ajax ahead, prompting another volley of missiles thrown by Ajax supporters gathered behind their own goal.
The players were taken off by the officials as Ajax coach Frank de Boeer went over to the supporters to ask them to behave.
Club director Edwin van der Sar took to the public address to appeal for reason.
“Stop throwing fireworks on the field, it’s dangerous,” he said. “If it happens again, the game is abandoned.”

Four hundred Ajax fans banned from key league title tie - 22/04/2014
Source : http://www.expatica.com
Some 400 Ajax supporters have been banned from Sunday’s key tie between the Amsterdam club and Heracles of Almelo, the club and Amsterdam city council have decided.
The ban applies to supporters who were in the section of the ground from where fireworks were thrown on the pitch during Sunday’s KNVB Cup final between Ajax and PEC Zwolle.
The match, which Zwolle won 5-1, was disrupted for almost 30 minutes because of the fireworks.
Ajax could win the Eredivise title on Sunday.
If this happens, the club and supporters will be allowed to celebrate victory in Amsterdam, the city council, police and public prosecution department have decided.
Ajax is six points clear of Feyenoord, with two matches still to play so at least a draw will give the Amsterdammers their fourth league title in a row.
Club cards
The supporters who will not be allowed at the game have been identified through the ticket sale system and their club cards have been blocked for the Heracles match.
‘If there are disturbances in Almelo or in Amsterdam this group will also be banned from the last match of the season between Ajax and NEC on 3 May in the Amsterdam Arena,’ the city council said.
Damage to the Kuip pitch and grounds is put at EUR 60,000 which will be paid by Ajax.
Vandals also destroyed advertising hoardings, toilets and sinks at the Rotterdam stadium.
‘This was really extreme. I’ve never seen it before,’ the stadium’s director Jan van Merwijk told local broadcaster RTV Rijnmond.

FC Bâle - FC Zurich - Swiss Cup final - 20/04/2014
The Swiss Cup final was marred by violence for the second year running on Monday when fans let off fireworks, urinated in the streets and smashed windows in the centre of Berne before the game, witnesses said.
Despite all the trouble and heavy police presence, the match itself, in which FC Zurich scored twice in extra-time to beat nine-man FC Basel 2-0, was played in a half-empty Stade de Suisse.
A Reuters reporter saw FC Zurich fans letting off fireworks outside the main station after they arrived on a special train.
This was followed by a tense showdown with heavily-armed riot police as the fans, many with their faces covered, congregated in centre of the city instead of walking straight to the stadium as planned.
They eventually moved on and television and newspaper pictures showed that they left a trail of smashed shop windows and broken bottles as they walked en masse through the old town.
Some were photographed urinating in the streets and one shopkeeper told the Berner Zeitung newspaper's website that they had ransacked his property, causing 50,000 Swiss francs' (£33,700) worth of damage.
There was further trouble at the stadium when Zurich fans tried to storm one of the entrances, media reports said, while pictures showed police water cannon at the ready.
Last year's fixture produced similar scenes when Grasshoppers and FC Basel fans clashed in the centre of Berne and police used pepper spray and rubber bullets.
The match itself produced a goalless 90 minutes but Basel had defender Gaston Sauro sent off in the 66th minute for hauling back goalbound Franck Etoundi by the shirt.
Basel were controversially reduced to nine men early in extra time when Giovanni Sio was given a second yellow card for diving although replays suggested he had been genuinely fouled.
Mario Gavranovic headed Zurich in front one minute later and completed their win with a tap-in six minutes from the end of extra-time after Yassine Chikhaoui ran half the length of the pitch in a counter-attack.
Zurich fans celebrated their team's eighth Swiss Cup win by lighting dozens of firecrackers, causing a cloud of grey smoke to drift over the pitch.

Police chief casts doubt on Swiss cup final future - 22/04/2014
Source : http://www.thelocal.ch
The final of the Swiss football cup may no longer be held in Bern after a police chief expressed his exasperation at clashes in the streets surrounding Monday’s final at the Stade de Suisse.
Police arrested 45 people following the FC Zurich-Basel cup final after groups of football supporters caused substantial damage in the capital, including broken windows and a damaged escalator, reported news agency ATS.
“Once more, the police are bearing the brunt. A number of them were injured,” said cantonal police chief Hans-Jürg Käser.
The violence comes despite an anti-hooligan agreement which gave more power to the authorities and allowed them to open discussion with supporter groups.
The city allowed the march to take place to give supporters “a second chance”, said Käser.
Now, the police chief has had enough, and the future of the event in Bern is in doubt.
“It’s up to the city of Bern to make the decision,” said Käser.
FC Zurich won the cup final 2-0.
