Police move in as home fans charge pitch following Blades' Cup victory over Forest
Sheffield United face an investigation from the Football Association after their dramatic FA Cup victory over Nottingham Forest ended with a pitch invasion. The struggling League One club set up the possibility of a mouth-watering quarter-final tie against Sheffield Wednesday after coming from behind to defeat Billy Davies’ side 3-1 at Bramall Lane. The game ended dramatically when a last-minute Chris Porter penalty gave Nigel Clough’s side the lead. Dozens of overjoyed supporters ran onto the pitch from the Kop.
When Porter struck again to settle the game moments later, a few more fans encroached onto the playing surface. At the final whistle, hundreds ran onto the field to celebrate. A quick reaction from the police prevented the situation from escalating as they formed a line in front of Nottingham Forest’s visiting supporters to stop the two sets of fans confronting each other. However, the FA will inevitably review the situation and ask the club for television footage.
Home boss Clough said: ‘It was a brilliant day. The only downside was that a few supporters came onto the pitch. I can understand the exuberance but they need to stay off the pitch.’ Forest boss Davies said that he would not be making any formal complaint to the authorities, despite a number of his players being engulfed by celebrating home fans as they left the pitch at the final whistle. He said: ‘There will be no complaint from us at all. We like to celebrate victory ourselves.’

Scotland : Banning order for Dunfermline fan who squared up to rival fans before Fife derby - 19/02/2014
Source : http://www.thecourier.co.uk
A Dunfermline Athletic fan has been banned from attending football matches for 18 months, after inciting rival fans before a derby against Raith Rovers.
Pars fan Stephen Payne, of Admiralty Road in Rosyth, was part of a group of Dunfermline supporters who attempted to square up to their Raith Rovers counterparts before a match in November 2012.
Only a cordon of police officers lined across the breadth of Kirkcaldy’s Links Street — which leads down to Raith Rovers’ stadium, Stark’s Park — prevented the two sets of supporters from clashing.
The banning order means that Payne, who was also fined £400, will be banned from all regulated football matches throughout the United Kingdom for a period of 1½ years.
Payne had initially denied the offence and during his trial Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court was shown camera footage taken by police officers on the day of the game.
FoCUS, the Football Coordination Unit for Scotland, which deals with specialist football crimes, had monitored supporters via bodycams and handheld camcorders on the way to the match.
PC Derek Skene gave evidence that the atmosphere was “volatile” and noted the accused was acting aggressively, using foul language and gesturing to the other fans.
Payne, 20, was seen approaching and trying to push his way through the cordon while making gestures at the Raith supporters.
Officers, armed with batons in the air, pushed him back and shouted for him to retreat before Payne swiped away an officer with his right arm.
He then strode menacingly along the police line while officers told him to keep his distance.
Payne was found guilty by Sheriff Max Hendry of, on November 17 2012, at Links Street, Kirkcaldy, while on the way to a regulated football match, engaging in behaviour likely to incite public disorder by forming part of a disorderly crowd and acting in an aggressive manner towards rival football fans.
Speaking following yesterday’s sentencing, football liaison prosecutor for the east of Scotland, Faith Millar, said: “There is no place in modern Scotland for such unruly disorder where grown men, so-called football fans, look to fight in the street. It is totally unacceptable, brings shame on the game and embarrasses genuine supporters.”

England : Derby County fans among 26 arrested in connection with 70-man fight after Nottingham Forest v Rams game - 18/02/2014
Source : http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk
POLICE have arrested 26 men in connection with football-related violent disorder.
In the hours that followed the Nottingham Forest v Derby County match on Saturday, September 28, a fight broke out in Trowell.
Officers were called to the Festival Inn, in Trowell, Nottinghamshire at about 5pm when an estimated 70 people become involved in the fight.
Thirteen people were arrested for disorder offences and now Nottinghamshire police, working with neighbouring force Derbyshire police , have detained a further 26.
Detective Inspector Kev Broadhead said: “The disorder took place long after the majority of supporters had enjoyed the game and made their way home peacefully.
“This has been a long and complex investigation but we will continue to hunt those involved and bring them to justice.
“It is a minority who give football supporters a bad name and it should not be tolerated. If you saw anything, please contact us.”
The 26 arrested were from Nottingham, Derbyshire and Boston in Lincolnshire.

Police confident over Napoli's Swansea visit
Police say they are confident the visit of Italian side Napoli to Swansea for Thursday's Europa League match will be trouble-free.
About 800 fans are believed to have travelled to south Wales for the trip from Naples.
But previous European matches involving Napoli have seen crowd trouble.
In October, a man was taken to hospital with head injuries after an incident before the Champions League match against Arsenal in London.
Throughout all of the Swansea games in Europe, both home and away, the fans have behaved impeccably and there is absolutely no reason why this tie should be any different”
South Wales Police have been working with Italian police as well as both clubs to ensure all fans are safe.
A plan is also in place for the influx of Napoli fans into Swansea city centre before and after the game.
Match commander Supt Phil Davies said: "This is probably one of the highest-profile European ties Swansea has played for many years and once again we want everyone to enjoy what the city has to offer for visitors.
"I am sure Napoli fans will be given a warm welcome by the people of Swansea and I hope they enjoy their stay in Wales.
"Throughout all of the Swansea games in Europe, both home and away, the fans have behaved impeccably and there is absolutely no reason why this tie should be any different."
The Swans reached the last 32 of the Europa League by finishing second in their group, while Napoli entered the competition after being knocked out of the Champions League.
Bus convoy Swansea fans travelling to the second leg in Italy next week have been told to take care following previous violent incidents in Naples.
Fans are being urged to travel in groups, avoid public transport and not wear club colours away from the ground.
A convoy of free buses will travel from the port area to the Stadio San Paolo where match tickets and ID will be needed.
The buses are being laid on to avoid known hot-spots for trouble such as the Forcella and Quartieri Spagnoli area.
Supporters travelling on buses from Rome and Sorrento will also be escorted to the ground.
Advice for visiting supporters to Naples is not uncommon given problems with the Italian side's hardcore fans.
In 2010, Liverpool followers were stabbed, chased and threatened ahead of a Europa League match in the city.
This season Napoli were warned they could be forced to play matches behind closed doors after trouble when they hosted Marseille.

Napoli fans clash with Swans supporters ahead of Europa tie
TIMELY police intervention has seen off potential trouble in Swansea’s city centre as a Napoli and Swans fans mounted a face-off.
A group of around 100 Napoli supporters had been drinking in the Kings Arms in High Street ahead of the Europa League meeting between the two sides.
At around 6pm the Napoli supporters gathered in the street and began chanting and jumping up and down.
The supporters, who were being monitored by police, then spotted a smaller group of Swansea City fans further down the road and directed their chants towards them.
It then appeared as if they were trying to engage the Swans supporters and several ‘missiles’ were thrown from the Italian side.
Police officers, including two on horseback, quickly stepped in to keep the two sides apart.
The Italians were then escorted by a large number of police officers along HIght Street and to the Liberty Stadium.

England : Nottingham Forest supporters jailed after Newark station football brawl - 21/02/2014
Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk
Four Nottinghamshire men have been jailed after a fight between football fans last April described as "disgraceful" by a judge.
The brawl between the Nottingham Forest and Doncaster Rover supporters broke out in Newark Northgate rail station.
The judge at Nottingham Crown Court said Forest supporters bore the brunt of responsibility for the violence.
All fifteen fans involved were given football banning orders of either three or six years.
Judge Andrew Hamilton said the fight was "disgraceful violence".
Broken bottle "It is clear it happened as a result of Forest fans and they bear the brunt of the responsibility", Judge Hamilton said.

The Forest fans were returning from a match against Millwall in London and the Doncaster supporters were returning from a match against Brentford.
One Doncaster fan was left with serious facial injuries after he was stabbed with a broken bottle during the fight.
Ringleaders Steven Marsden, 54, of New Balderton and Christopher Cox, 48, of Coddington were both jailed for a year and given six-year football banning orders.
Two other Forest fans, Danny Smalley, 25, and Jamie Johnson, 31, both of Newark, were also given the same sentences.
Three other Nottingham Forest fans were convicted of affray and given suspended sentences and 180 hours of community service.
One Nottingham Forest fan was ordered to undertake 140 hours community service.
Six Doncaster fans were ordered to serve 140 hours of community service after being convicted of threatening behaviour, with three of them also receiving four-month suspended sentences.
Ashley Allen, 20, of Thurnscoe, who was stabbed in the face, was given a conditional discharge.

Port Vale and Crewe Alex fans clash in executive boxes at derby match
PUNCHES were thrown after rival fans clashed in the executive boxes at Port Vale and Crewe Alex’s derby game today.
Witnesses saw the trouble break out half-way through the match as supporters managed to cross from one box to another at Vale Park.
Police and stewards then rushed up the Lorne Street stand to quell the trouble.
They remained on patrol there for the rest of the game.
It was one of several incidents, with reports of a flare also being thrown onto the pitch.
The device was sneaked into the ground by a fan, despite stewards searching people as they arrived.
Staffordshire Police confirmed they made one arrest during the game and another for a public order offence in Hamil Road, Burslem, after the final whistle.
Police officers kept up a strong presence outside the ground following Crewe’s 3-1 win against Vale.
