England : Shame of Midlands football fans as 250 arrested by police at stadiums - 21/06/2013
Source : http://www.expressandstar.com
More than 250 fans were arrested at football grounds around the region last season.
New figures show that the number of supporters collared by police at Midland stadiums dropped by 22 compared with the previous season – due to fewer arrests at West Bromwich Albion’s Hawthorns ground. West Brom Albion Hawthorns WBA gates stock Albion spokesman John Simpson said just one of the 16 arrested at the Hawthorns was a Baggies supporter.
The number of arrests at the ground was down by 52 compared to the previous season.
Mr Simpson said: “The latest arrest figures are encouraging.
“They suggest the general behaviour of supporters inside the stadium is improving. What is even more pleasing is that only one arrest last season involved a home fan.”
There were 74 arrests made at Molineux – the highest at any ground in the area. It comes after a turbulent season that saw Wolves relegated for the second time in two years. At the end of their final home game of the season, which saw the team lose 2-1 to Burnley, around 300 fans invaded the pitch. Afterwards police scoured CCTV coverage of the pitch invasion and vowed to arrest anyone seen committing an offence. Some fans were seen kicking advertising hoardings and scuffling with stewards.
Officers said today they were looking at the arrest figures before deciding how to police football games in the region next season.
The figures show there were an extra 10 supporters arrested as a result of games at Molineux this year compared with last year.
There were 45 people arrested at Walsall’s Banks’s stadium during the season – up 34 on the year before.
But at Villa Park there were 50 arrests – 29 fewer compared with the previous season.
There were 68 arrests at the Birmingham City ground – up by 18.
Ground arrest figures:
Molineux: 74 arrests
Hawthorns: 16
Banks’s Stadium: 45
Villa Park: 50
Birmingham’s St Andrew’s: 68 arrests

Uruguay's police arrest 80 fans in victory rampage
Uruguay's police arrested 80 rampaging football fans, after celebrations marking their team's victory over a rival in a local championship got out of control.
The press office of Montevideo's city government said 17 police officers suffered minor injuries when fans began pelting stones at them here Wednesday night, reports Xinhua.
The fans went on rampage after Penarol defeated Defensor 3-1 at the city's Centenario Stadium, in a match attended by some 50,000 people. After the game, Penarol fans thronged Montevideo's downtown area to celebrate.
But the revelry spiralled out of control, with fans vandalizing public property and smashing store windows along the city's main thoroughfare, July 18 Avenue, even looting several shops.
Police already deployed in parts of the downtown district, as part of a preventive security measure, clashed with violent fans.
The website of local daily La Republica said 11 of those arrested are minors, and three police patrol cars were damaged.

Football fans in France riot with extreme violence
Not all football riots are created equal. Some, like the one that broke out earlier this month during an amateur game in France, are enough to shock even the most jaded hooligans. For reasons unknown, heavily-armed fans invaded the field during a match between Ivry-sur-Siene and Val de Fontenay to do battle. Rioters brandishing knives, bats, lead pipes, tear gas and even pick axes gathered into groups and attacked in each other as smoke bombs went off, creating a scene straight out of a gang war. The incident was caught on tape but only recently brought to the public's attention by French newspaper Le Parisian. The footage is reportedly being used as evidence against several people who have been arrested and charged for their crimes during the riot. Both clubs also face permanent bans from the league.

Argentina : Estudiantes - Lanus La Plata- 08/06/2013
Monday's Argentine Primera Division match between Estudiantes and Lanus has been suspended after a fan was killed in a clash with police.
The incident between Lanus supporters and police reached its boiling point after 45 minutes with Estudiantes leading the match 2-0, with one member of the crowd shot to death with a rubber bullet.
“We decided to suspended [the match] for the fan’s death. The advice was to end it this way. All I can say is that we mourn the death of a person,” Lanus president Alejandro Maron told reporters.
"The police reported a supporter had died and in the face of this situation it was necessary to suspend the match," Estudiantes president Enrique Lombardi added.
"It was a unanimous decision by both clubs... It was for humanitarian reasons."
Reports in Argentina suggest that three police officers have already been dismissed from their duties as a result of the violent scenes in La Plata.
It is believed there were violent clashes prior to kick-off in Buenos Aires as barrabravas confronted riot police outside the ground.
Charitable organisation Salvamos al Futbol now estimates the number of football-related deaths in Argentina at 271.

Ban on away fans aimed at curbing violence in Argentina - 11/06/2013
Source : http://sports.yahoo.com
The last two rounds of Argentine first division soccer matches have been closed to visiting teams' supporters after a fan was shot dead during a clash with riot police. A joint statement from the Argentine FA (www.afa.org.ar) and government on Tuesday said they "have decided jointly that the next two rounds in Argentine football be played without the attendance of the visiting public." A leading hard core fan of Lanus died after allegedly being shot at point blank range by a police officer during fighting before the team's league match with Estudiantes in La Plata, capital of Buenos Aires province, on Monday. Three middle ranking police officers have been suspended pending an investigation, media reported. The match was suspended at halftime with Estudiantes leading 2-0. Lanus, third in the "Final" championship standings, were looking to keep pace with leaders Newell's Old Boys and River Plate. It was the second match suspended in three days after Saturday's game at Velez Sarsfield was marred by trouble when hard core fans of visiting side All Boys tried to enter El Fortin stadium without tickets. The authorities fear more of the violence that has plagued the Argentine game for years if big guns Independiente are relegated. If they drop any points from their remaining two matches they will be relegated for the first time. Several dozen Independiente fans on a top tier at the Monumental tore up seats and threw them at River supporters below during their team's 2-1 defeat on Sunday. No injuries were reported.

Russia cracks down on hooligans ahead of Worl Cup - 09/06/2013
Source : http://www.thenewage.co.za
Russia's parliament on Friday backed harsher punishments for football hooliganism, including a seven-year ban for black-listed fans, in a bid to combat violence at stadiums ahead of its hosting of the World Cup in 2018.
The lower house of parliament, the Duma, passed the bill unanimously in its crucial second and penultimate reading.
It still needs a third reading and then it goes to the upper house Federation Council before signing by President Vladimir Putin.
Russia's organised rival football fan groups model themselves on British hooligan "firms" and communicate on the Internet, with some taking part in nationalist rallies in their team scarves.
Racist chants directed at black players and those from the Russian Caucasus and lighting of flares are common.
In 2012, Zenit Saint Petersburg fans threw a firecracker at Dinamo Moscow goalkeeper Anton Shunin, forcing the match to be abandoned.
Russia's hosting of the World Cup in 2018 would mark the most high-profile sports event ever held in the country.
The bill would try to control fans by allowing the government to rule that tickets for certain sports events can only be bought by fans who show ID.
Under the proposed legislation, those fans who caused a match to be abandoned could spend 15 days in cells or get a ban for up to a year.
The bill would then allow a judge to ban repeat offenders from stadiums for up to seven years. Those who breached the ban could also be forced to pay up to 25,000 rubles ($764) in fines or spend 15 days in police cells.
Currently the maximum fine for fans who cause a match to be stopped is just 2,000 rubles and the top penalty for fans who commit a less serious offence is 1,000 rubles.
The bill also calls for trained stewards to be present in stadiums, which are now largely guarded by police. The stewards would have powers to search fans and prevent black-listed fans from entering.
It also places more responsibility on stadium owners to ensure security with measures such as closed-circuit television cameras. Organisations could be fined up to 500,000 rubles ($15,250) if people were hurt due to security breaches.
In December 2010, fans ran amok in central Moscow, beating up migrants from the North Caucasus after men from the region allegedly shot dead a Spartak Moscow fan in a fight. Twenty-nine were injured.

Fabrizio Toffolo, friend of Sunderland manager Di Canio, was shot in Rome - 22/06/2013
Source : Daily Mail
Paolo Di Canio's fascist hooligan friend shot in the genitals in drive-by attack over 'drug feud' Fabrizio Toffolo, friend of Sunderland manager Di Canio, was shot in Rome Toffolo, leader of the 'Irriducibili' gang is known for his fascist sympathies He is a former Lazio player, the team Di Canio also used to play for
A hardcore football hooligan friend of reformed fascist Paolo Di Canio was tonight fighting for his life after being shot in the testicles. Fabrizio Toffolo, leader of Lazio's Ultras, was hit in a suspected drugs feud with a friend named as Danilo Casadei, who also suffered gunshot wounds. Paolo Di Canio, manager of the British Premier League club Sunderland, was formerly a player for Lazio and as a youth team player continued to associate with the Irriducibili (diehard) Ultra group.
Toffolo has been banned from Italian football grounds several times because of his hooligan past and he has boasted off his close friendship with controversial Di Canio, who was made Sunderland boss two months ago. Among Toffolo's prized possessions is a shirt signed by Di Canio, who was even once pictured in an Ultras T shirt.
Masked hitmen on a powerful motorbike struck as Toffolo, 48, and Casadei, 30, were walking down a quiet street and police said several shots were fired which sent passers by scattering for their lives. The attack took place in the Appio area of Rome, the heartland of the Lazio Ultras and police sealed off the area as they combed for clues. Witnesses said that Toffolo had tried to escape the gunmen by running into a garage while his friend ran into a garden centre. An eyewitness in the garden centre said: 'There were bullets flying everywhere it was very scary. 'The two guys were hit by men on a motorbike who then roared away at high speed after the attack. I recognised one of the men hit as Toffolo - everyone knows who he is.'
It is not the first time that Toffolo has been the victim of a gunshot attack - in 2007 he suffered injured after being knee capped in Rome. Today a spokesman at the San Giovanni hospital in Rome said: 'Toffolo is in a critical condition. He suffered bullet wounds to the groin area and lower stomach. The other man who was also hit is in a less serious condition.' Toffolo is on bail awaiting trial for threatening the current owner of Lazio but a police spokesman said they were ''looking at a possible drugs feud'' as the motive for the attack.
