England: Liverpool FC and Everton FC fans in court after FA Cup semi-final Wembley arrests - 02/05/2012
Source : http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk
LIVERPOOL FC and Everton FC fans arrested at the FA Cup semi-final last month have appeared in court.
Supporters from both sides were held by the Met police for alleged offences before, during and after the Reds’ 2-1 victory at Wembley on Saturday, April 14.
They all appeared at Hendon magistrates court this week where some accepted their guilt while others challenged the charges.
Liam Cartmel, of West Oakhill Park, Old Swan, threw a coin at rival supporters while watching the game, the court was told. The 28-year-old admitted throwing a missile at a spectators area, an offence under the Football (Offences) Act, and was fined £300 with a £15 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
Anthony Corrie, 34, of Eaton Road, West Derby, also appeared in court and admitted being drunk and disorderly at the stadium.
Corrie was fined £50 with a £15 victim surcharge and was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £50.
Everton fan Stephen Gibson was caught with a lit firework during the match, magistrates were told.
The 22-year-old, of Moorland Road, Maghull, admitted possession of a firework or flare at a sporting event and was fined £200, and ordered to pay a surcharge and prosecution costs totalling £100.
Goodison Park season-ticket holder Keith Davies, 49, of Queens Drive, Walton, denied racially or religiously aggravated common assault and assault by beating in Olympic Way, in the shadow of the stadium, after an incident before the match.
He was granted unconditional bail to stand trial on July 5 at Willesden magistrates court.
Michael Duffy, a 22-year-old Everton supporter, is accused of causing criminal damage to a car but had his case adjourned until May 9.
Duffy, of Beresford Street, Everton, had not yet entered a plea and his bail requires him to stay at least a mile from Goodison Park for the four hours before kick-off of a home game and for two hours after.
A Chelsea fan and two Tottenham Hotspur supporters also appeared in court after being arrested following their semi-final.

England: No ban for Nazi salute football fan - 04/05/2012
Source : http://www.thisissomerset.co.uk
A football fan who did a Nazi salute in front of an anti-racism banner at a stadium has been spared a court order which would ban him from any football match across the country.
Hank Webster denied a charge of racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress when he appeared before Bristol magistrates yesterday for his trial, but the bench found him guilty.
However, they did not feel the Bristol Rovers fan deserved a football banning order and instead fined him £290.
The 47-year-old, from Devizes in Wiltshire, had claimed that the salute had been a Roman one, not a racist gesture.
Michael Hartnell, prosecuting, told the court that on September 17 last year Webster was getting ready to watch Rovers play Aldershot Town at the Memorial Stadium when the club's safety officer saw him raise his arm in the air.
Mr Hartnell said the member of staff, who was in the stadium's control room, immediately recognised the movement as a Nazi salute.
A friend of Webster's took a photo of him on his phone as he held the pose, in front of a banner reading "Gas against racism".
The court heard from the club's safety officer Dave Harper, who said there were no police at the match so he took the decision not to eject him from the ground.
He said there was no doubt that the salute would have been seen as a Nazi one by anybody that saw it.
"As far as I am concerned it was a classical definite racist act," he said." "It was something we don't want in the stadium."
When Webster returned to the stadium on November 19 he was recognised and ejected from the stadium so that police could deal with him.
His mobile phone was seized and contained the photo of him taken in front of the anti-racism banner a couple if months before.
When police interviewed Webster, he told police he had started supporting the club in the 1990s when they played in Bath, and fans who went to watch both Bath and Bristol Rovers were known as Roman Gasheads. His 'Roman salute', he claimed, was regularly made by these fans at Twerton Park.
Webster, who has tattoos across half of his face, told police he thought he was being "victimised" by the club, who he thought didn't want someone who looked like him to be shown on television as one of their fans.
The court heard that he told police he thought it was "ironic" to do the salute in front of the banner – which the officer interviewing him said implied he knew it would be perceived as racist.
Webster told police he was not racist.
But before sentencing him, the magistrates said the photograph recovered from Webster's phone showed what "any reasonable person would recognise as a Nazi salute".

Cologne fans respond to relegation by engulfing their stadium in black smoke
After Thomas Muller scored Bayern's fourth in the 85th minute, Cologne fans started setting off black smoke bombs that prompted the referee to end the match a little early so the players could run for cover. A disappointed Podolski was the last man off. The smoke got thicker and despite the heavy presence of riot police with their itchy pepper spray trigger fingers, the inevitable relegation pitch invasion played out...

Poland's police have arrested 35 individuals suspected of taking part in organised fights between football-fan gangs, as the Euro 2012 co-host nation continues a crackdown on hooliganism. The Central Investigation Bureau said on Wednesday that the suspects were snared in a sweep involving some 300 officers who raided 50 homes over two days. The individuals are believed to have been involved in "ustawki", the notorious pre-arranged fights between rival teams' fans which have claimed several lives in Poland over recent years. The raids were carried out in northwestern and southwestern Poland, and targeted fans of second-division clubs Pogon Szczecin and Piast Gliwice, from the respective regions. Police said they had been tracking the suspects since a pitched battle between dozens of the clubs' fans in November 2010, with all of them men aged between 20 and 40 who trained daily in martial arts and bodybuilding. If tried and found guilty, they could face three years in prison. Polish police estimate that the nation of 38 million has a hooligan hardcore of up to 5,000. Long accused of failing to take the problem seriously enough, and aware of the Euro 2012 spotlight, Polish authorities were stung into action after trouble at last year's cup final between top-flight sides Legia Warsaw and Lech Poznan. In addition to bolstering electronic tagging and planning fast-track trials in stadiums by video-link to a court, authorities have also used fan-bans as a weapon. After last May's cup final trouble, away supporters of all Polish clubs were banned from the remaining matches of the season, and ad hoc bans for individual games have been imposed this term. But the broad-brush approach has faced criticism from ordinary fans who claim they are being targeted as a group as the authorities strive to prove their mettle.
