Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley hooligans banned til 2013 - 24/08/2010

Source: http://www.thestar.co.uk/headlines/Sheffield-Wednesday-and-Barnsley-hooligans.6490629.jp

FOUR South Yorkshire football hooligans have been banned from attending games until 2013.
Barnsley supporters David Leadbeater, aged 38, Jamie Lovitt, 20, and Steven O'Brien, 30, and Sheffield Wednesday follower Adam Marshall, 19, were each handed three-year bans at Sheffield Magistrates' Court for an array of offences, some stretching as far back as 2003.

Court papers said Leadbeater, of Dearne Street, Darton, is a persistent offender at matches. In April 2009 after the final whistle at Barnsley v Wolverhampton he stormed the pitch with other yobs before yelling at police in an "aggressive manner".

On another occasion, following a game against Sheffield United, he was spotted waving his arms, shouting and swearing at opposition fans - all in front of his own young child.

Lovitt, of Farm Road, Kendray, was slapped with his ban for a catalogue of nine offences.

Last August, prior to the game against Sheffield Wednesday, there was a brawl on Halifax Road, Hillsborough, which resulted in a police officer falling from his horse. Lovitt was identified as being involved.

And before Barnsley's cup tie against Manchester United last year, Lovitt was searched by police who found cocaine in his pocket.

O'Brien, of Brow Close, Ward Green, has been subject to a football banning order before - which he breached.

His offences stretch back to 2003, including incidents of abuse and foul language, in particular towards Cardiff City manager Dave Jones and a linesman at a game against Blackpool last December.

Marshall, of Sandstone Road, Wincobank, was one of the yobs who ran onto the pitch following the Owls' final game of last season.

He has been the recipient of a banning order before - which he received when he was just 15.

Panionios fans dig up United v AEK venue - 25/08/2010

Source : thecourier.co.uk

Dundee United's match against AEK Athens was last night sensationally thrown into fresh doubt after a group of Panionios fans trashed their own stadium in protest at their bitter rivals being allowed to play there.

After a day of drama which almost led to the tie being postponed because of the problems surrounding the pitch at the Olympic Stadium, AEK signed an agreement with their local rivals to host the game only minutes before a UEFA deadline was due to pass.

However, last night a furious mob stormed the Nea Smyrni ground, dug up parts of the pitch and trashed parts of the stand in a bid to get the tie called off.

UEFA will now hold an inspection of the stadium this morning as United prepare to fly out from Edinburgh at 9am — and there are suggestions the tie may now be switched to the home of Olympiakos if they deem the stadium unsafe for United's 500 travelling fans.

AEK were forced to move the fixture from the Olympic Stadium when the pitch was deemed unplayable after a match between Panathanaikos and Genoa, played following a problem with the sprinkler system, left the turf in a terrible condition.

The Greeks then went scrambling around for an alternative.

They approached local rivals Panathanaikos, whom they share the Olympic venue with, for use of their former ground, the Leoforos Stadium, but were refused permission. A proposed switch to Apollon FC's Rizoupoli arena was then ruled out by UEFA.

The governing body originally handed down a deadline of noon yesterday for AEK to sort out a new pitch but that passed without an agreement in place, leaving United furious that their travel plans were in chaos less than 24 hours before they were scheduled to leave Scotland.

The Greeks then switched their attention to playing at the Peristeri Stadium, home of neighbours Atromitos, but their ground was not up to UEFA standard.

With the clock ticking it became a real possibility the match would be postponed and UEFA responded by stipulating a new deadline of 4pm.

Failure to comply by that stage would have meant AEK being reported to UEFA's disciplinary committee — with the possibility of a neutral venue being appointed — but with just minutes to spare they managed to strike a deal with Panionios to use Nea Smyrni, which is UEFA compliant and three miles from the centre of Athens.

It has a capacity of 11,700 — AEK have sold a total of 13,200 tickets for the match — but it will be able to accommodate the 500 or so travelling United supporters.

The safety of those fans is, of course, paramount in the minds of the Tangerines and it is why they have enlisted the help of SFA head of security Derek Kirkwood, the former Strathclyde Police superintendent who is to accompany the party.

The whole saga has left a sour taste in the mouths of United officials, who spent big to upgrade their own stadium to UEFA standards only for this farce to unfold.

Speaking before news of the latest fiasco emerged, United chairman Stephen Thompson said, "I am extremely unhappy, but we will now go ahead and play the game as instructed by UEFA."

Pompey fan given three-year banning order - 25/08/2010

Source : portsmouth.co.uk

A Pompey fan who racially abused a rail worker has been handed a three-year football banning order.

John Willett, from Cardiff Road, Portsmouth, received the order at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court, which heard how he was abusive towards a member of staff at London's Euston station.

Willett was among a group of fans who had been to watch Portsmouth's 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last season on October 3.

At just after 8pm he became aggressive towards an Asian customer service staff, making offensive, racially abusive comments to him.

Willett was arrested by British Transport Police at the scene and later admitted a racially-aggravated public order offence.

Under the conditions of the order, Willett must not enter any football grounds in England and Wales.

The 25-year-old is banned from using the rail network on a day when either Portsmouth or the England national team is playing - during a period of three hours before the start and three hours after the end of a match.

He was also fined £250, ordered to pay £250 in compensation and £250 in costs.

He was also given a one-month jail term, suspended for a year.

PC Alvin Soomary said: 'Racist language, whether it is used inside or outside the football ground, is totally unacceptable and we will seek restrictive banning orders against those who feel otherwise.'

Poland - Zawisza Bydgoszcz - Widzew Lodz - 25/08/2010

Source: fotofanatics.eu + thenews.pL

Police injured after hooligans run riot at football match

Four policemen were seriously injured after fighting broke out between fans of Zwisza Bydgoszcz and Widzew Lodz at a Polish Cup football match on Wednesday night.

Rioting began shortly before the match. Bydgoszcz fans teamed up with fans of Widzew’s local rivals LKS-Lodz and tried to force their way to the Widzew Lodz end intent on a fight.

Security guards failed to hold back the hooligans and police were called in to help.

“Zawisza Bydgosz supporters threw stones, sticks, rocks and even railings at the police officers who retaliated with truncheons, water cannons and tear gas,” says Monika Chlebicz, spokeswoman for the Pomeranian police.

During the first half of the match Polish FA representative ordered play to be stopped because of continued fighting on the terraces. Policemen eventually managed to suppress the riots and after fifteen minutes the match was resumed.

As a result of the clashes four policemen sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized. Six of the most aggressive hooligans were arrested and several more will be detained when police analyze CCTV recordings.

About a thousand police officers, dozens of police dogs and a helicopter were ready to intervene in the clashes.

Widzew won the match three goals to nil.

Authorities fear a return to regular football hooliganism that was a feature at Polish football matches four or five years ago. At the weekend police seized machetes, knives and other weapons on a special train taking Wisla Krakow fans back from a match against Widzew Lodz.

Accrington - Newcastle United - Cup - 25/08/2010

Source: http://www.breakingnews.ie/sport/five-fans-held-after-fiery-cup-clash-470961.html#ixzz0xixNFHas (thanks to the sender)

Five fans held after fiery cup clash

Five supporters were arrested last night following the Carling Cup second-round match between Accrington and Newcastle, police said today.

Accrington fan Daniel Cruickshank, aged 18, of Church Street, Accrington, Lancashire, was charged with throwing a missile on to the pitch during the tie.

It is understood police tried to arrest him outside the Crown Ground, when officers were attacked.

Jason Graham, aged 36, of Avenue Parade, Accrington, was charged with being drunk and disorderly, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

Two other men were given penalty notices for being drunk and disorderly, police said.

Several Newcastle fans were also arrested after running on to the pitch after the game, which the Magpies won 3-2.

Liam Gibson, aged 18, of Eastgarth, Newcastle, Lloyd Miller, aged 19, of Lambley Close, Sunniside, Newcastle, and David Collins of Chiltern Road, North Shields, Newcastle, were all charged with going on to a playing area at a football match.

All are due to appear before Hyndburn Magistrates on September 8.

A spokesman from Lancashire Police said: “The match had been a wonderful occasion with the majority of fans in really good spirits, which became marred by a small group of people becoming hostile towards the police following the arrest of a man for an earlier incident.”

Police track hooligans after ID card violence - 26/08/2010

Source: http://www.ansa.it/web/notizie/rubriche/english/2010/08/26/visualizza_new.html_1789967841.html

Fans clash with police, set alight cars near minister

Soccer: Police track hooligans after ID card violence (ANSA) - Bergamo, August 26 - Police in Bergamo were working Thursday to track down around 500 Atalanta fans who staged a violent protest against Interior Minister Roberto Maroni over a new supporters' ID card. The 'ultra' hardcore fans set light to five cars and clashed with police outside a meeting in the northern city Wednesday where Maroni was explaining his reasons for introducing the scheme.

''They can forget about going to the stadium for a long time,'' Maroni warned the fans involved after the meeting, which Economy Minister Giulio Tremonti and Simplification Minister Roberto Calderoli also attended. Maroni hopes the card, which fans wanting to buy season tickets or travel to their sides' away games will have to have this season, will help keep out troublemakers and solve Italian football's enduring problem with hooliganism.

But many teams' ultras are fiercely opposed, arguing it is a restriction on their civil liberties, and they are threatening to boycott matches.

''I express my utmost solidarity with Interior Minister Roberto Maroni, we are supporting the institutions,'' Giancarlo Abete, the head of the Italian Soccer Federation, told RAI television on Thursday. ''The people behind violence like this must be kept away from the stadiums. There can be differences of opinion, but the use of violence shows the sort of people we are forced to deal with''.

Over half a million supporters' cards have been requested, although season ticket sales are down by about 20% following the scheme's introduction.

The new Serie A season kicks off this weekend.

View from Genkie:

Before the game a group of Porto were acting large but they had to run. Start of the game everything went wild and police entered our stand. After the game a group of Porto , about 30, came looking for Genk. They started throwing bottles and when Genk tried to break out they started running again and police was now on the scene.

View from Porto fan:

I just arrived home from the match and I must say that the behavior of the Genk fans was unacceptable. They brought firecrackers and rockets (we call them "petardos", those things you light up and throw into the air and give out big bangs, I don't know how to call them in english) and threw torches into the field. The police had to intervene and got into the middle of them hitting whoever they could with their batons, and it was throughly deserved. I believe not all Genk fans are like those idiots that came to our city tonight but this was a disgraceful image that Belgian fans leave in Portugal.

Hunt for four fans over East Lancashire derby disturbances - 27/08/2010

Source : lancashiretelegraph.co.uk

CCTV images of four football fans suspected of being involved in a derby day disturbance have been released by police.

Officers investigating trouble at the end of the Burnley versus Blackburn Rovers game at Turf Moor in March want to speak to the four men in connection with the incident.

Supporters from both sides were in the David Fishwick Stand during the Premier League fixture, which Rovers won 1-0.

But immediately after the final whistle, a number of Burnley fans were forced back by police as they vented their frustrations at their bitter rivals.

Just a few rows across in the away section, Rovers fans ripped up 150 seats and smashed toilets in the concourse.

A number of people have been arrested in connection with the disorder, which is alleged to have occurred in the home section of the stand, also known as the Cricket Field Stand.

Football Intelligence Officer DC Shaun Juriansz said: "We are keen to speak to these men as they may have information to help with our inquiries and I appeal to anyone who recognises them to contact us.

"The vast majority of football fans are law abiding people who pose us no problems whatsoever.

“This disturbance, which involved a large number of people, happened at the end of the match.

"Fortunately no one was injured but we are keen to speak to these men and anyone else who has information to help with our investigation.

"We want people of all ages to be able to enjoy the football in safety and we will not tolerate anyone who might compromise that by behaving in a violent or anti-social manner.

“Anyone involved in violent or anti-social behaviour should be under no illusions as to the firm action that will be taken."

The East Lancashire derby attracted a huge police response with Blackburn fans bussed straight to the ground in the build up to the lunchtime kick off.

The arrangements were a mirror of the first fixture, held at Ewood Park last October.

But clashes inside and outside the ground saw more than 40 people arrested and an investigation launched into the actions of police who were accused of using heavy-handed tactics to keep Burnley fans at bay.

Video footage was posted on the internet and Lancashire Constabulary referred their controlling of the match to theIndependent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

However, IPCC investigators decided to allow the police’s Professional Standards Department to carry out the investigation instead.

The investigation is still ongoing.

There were also concerns raised that Rovers fans had been allowed to carry bottles of beer into the stand during the match amid suggestions of a crush in the concourse.

Aston Villa - Rapid Vienna - 26/08/2010

Source : Birmingham Mail

Two Rapid Vienna supporters arrested for assaulting Aston Villa steward

A PAIR of Rapid Vienna supporters arrested and detained for assaulting a Villa Park steward had their air fare home paid for by their club after they missed their flights.

The two were detained at Queens Road police station and received cautions following an assault on a steward during the crunch Europa League qualifying match on Thursday night.

A large number of seats were also damaged by fans during the game.

While in custody the pair missed their plane to Austria – so their club ended up paying for their return.

A police spokesman said the two were held after a minor assault on a steward but added: “Most of the fans were well behaved and in good spirits before and after the match.”

A spokesman for Aston Villa confirmed the pair were arrested after an attack on a steward and that Rapid paid for their flights home. He said more than 100 seats were damaged during the game.

Inter Milan - Atletico Madrid - European Super Cup played in Monaco - 27/08/2010

Source : The Canadian Press

Prior to the game, police intervened quickly to prevent a clash between small factions of hooligans from Atletico and Inter.

Around 25 Atletico hooligans were waiting outside a shop near Monaco's Stade Louis II stadium when some 30-40 thugs from Inter turned a corner into the road, putting the rivals just yards apart.

Atletico thugs, some who smashed wooden crates and ripped off pieces to use as weapons, rushed into the road as they were beckoned on by their counterparts.

A handful of police formed a line to push the Atletico hooligans back before further reinforcements helped contain the Inter hooligans, some of whom were waving belts.
