| Portsmouth FC - Cardiff City - Cup - 17/05/2008Source : Portsmouth News Police praise partying FA Cup fansPolice have said there was a minimal amount of disturbance during and after the FA Cup final with only 10 arrests in the city. A total of 80 officers were out patrolling the city centre streets and Southsea Common. By 10pm yesterday 10 arrests had been made for public disorder and assaults. Superintendent Richard Rowland, in charge of police operations during the day, said: 'We are extremely pleased with how yesterday went and I think praise is due not only for the professionalism shown by the officers around the city, but also for the residents and visitors to Portsmouth who all came to enjoy themselves and be part of a proud moment in history. 'There were a few small pockets of disorder which were dealt with swiftly and with minimal disruption to the day and the low number of arrests only serves to support the overall opinion that this was a great event.' | KAA Gent - RSC Anderlecht - Cup - 18/05/2008Source: mail (thanks to the sender) Our firm mobbed up at La Bourse-square, near O'Reilly's. About 1,5h before kick-off a large group composed of BCS (+- 100) and regular fans took the road to the nearest tube station. All went well until OB decided to block the entire train at Beekant. A couple of windows got smashed and finally they let everyone out. The whole group left the tube station and continued the rest of the way to the ground on foot accompanied by OB. At Belgica-station we took the tube once again. At Brugmann-station, which was Ghent-territory during this final, some scuffles erupted between police and our firm which was trying to leave the station. When we finally arrived at the Heysel-stadium a part of the BCS-group forced its way into the ground by breaking through some of the fences near the entrance. | Police to stop hooligans going to Moscow final - 19/05/2008
Source : AFP
Police are to stop known football hooligans from travelling to Moscow for this week's Champions League final and will have officers on the ground in the Russian capital, they said on Monday.
Plain-clothed football intelligence and uniformed officers would be at airports before Wednesday's game between Chelsea and Manchester United to prevent fans who are currently banned from grounds here from heading to Russia.
Chief Inspector Robert Tinsley from Manchester Airport police station said: "In past operations, the vast majority of people approached by officers have been genuine supporters who were co-operative and understanding.
"But we have been successful in stopping a number of known hooligans travelling."
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said a similar operation was being conducted at Heathrow airport.
"A number of officers who have specialist knowledge of risk supporters of Chelsea Football Club will be travelling to act in support of the local police, acting as spotters," she added.
Tens of thousands of fans are expected to make the trip to Russia in the coming days for the match between Premier League champions Manchester United and runners-up Chelsea.
Supporters are being advised they cannot travel without a valid ticket for the game at Moscow's Luzhniki stadium.
British police who deal with football matches have liaised with their Russian counterparts for arrangements for fans.

| Dawn raids for Coventry football hooligans - 20/05/2008
Source : Coventry Telegraph
POLICE officers descended onto homes across Coventry and Leicestershire in a series of dawn raids this morning.
A total of 130 West Midlands Police officers struck at 20 addresses at 5.45am in the hunt for wanted football hooligans.
The operation, which was organised by Chace Avenue Police station, follows a violent brawl in Earlsdon on February 23.
The disorder, which is believed to have been pre-arranged, flared in Earlsdon Avenue North, near to the City Arms pub, prior to Coventry City's match against Leicester City at the Ricoh Arena.
Families had to flee the violence and many had to shelter in nearby shops and a church.
Immediately following the brawl 10 people were arrested and a further arrest was made a day later.
Those arrested today were identified by police who had trawled through hours of CCTV footage from the scene.
During Operation Net News teams of officers made arrests at houses in Willenhall, Stoke Aldermoor, Cheylesmore and Tile Hill.
Detective Inspector Bob Pettipher, of Chace Avenue police station, said: "Where serious disorder occurs, officers will make every effort to bring offenders to justice.
"CCTV footage clearly showed many innocent members of the public fearing for their own safety and seeking refuge in houses and a local church.
"I hope the arrests made under Operation Net News send a clear message to anyone thinking of causing disorder when attending football games."

Arrests in fan violence inquiry Seventeen people have been arrested by police investigating fighting between rival football fans earlier this year.
About 130 police officers took part in the morning raids across Leicestershire and Coventry.
About 100 Coventry City and Leicester City fans clashed before a match involving the clubs in February.
The fighting, which took place five miles from Coventry's Ricoh Arena in Earlsdon High Street, is thought to have been pre-arranged.
Weapons, including knives, were recovered after the disorder, which started outside the City Arms pub.
The arrests follow a joint investigation involving the West Midlands and Leicestershire forces.

| Fans given football bans after racist and violent incidents - 20/05/2008
Source : Liverpool Daily Post
TWO men have been given football bans totalling nine years after being found guilty of hurling racial abuse at players and attacking police at two separate matches.
Bryan Roza, 29, of Arncliffe Road, Halewood, was arrested following the Everton versus Chelsea fixture on April 17.
Chelsea fielded a team with six black players, including England star Ashley Cole.
Roza was detained for shouting racial abuse at one of the footballers, although police have not revealed which particular player was singled out for the foul mouthed tirade.
Roza appeared before North Liverpool Community Justice Court where he was given a fine and a three-year Football Banning Order. In a separate incident during the Everton versus Metalist Kharkiv match on September 20 last year, David Hurst, 22, of Fairstead, Skelmersdale, was arrested for assaulting two police officers.
Hurst was sentenced to four months in prison for this assault on Goodison Road after the match, and he also received a six-year Football Banning Order.
PC Lee Lomax, from Merseyside Police, said: “Our aim is to ensure football matches remain a family- friendly environment. We will not tolerate any kind of violence or racist abuse.”
Everton spokesman Ian Ross added: “There’s no place for people like that at Everton. The board of directors will discuss these two at the next meeting and they may well decide to impose their own measures.”
These could include a life ban.

16-Year-Old Fan Shot After Paraguayan Fixture
A fan is in a “serious condition” after being shot during a Paraguayan league game between Cerro Porteno and Olimpia, two of the country's most successful clubs.
The 16-year old, named as Juan Carlos Alvarenga by local media, is believed to have been walking among a group of Cerro Porteno fans after the match when they came under fire close to the Estadio Defensores del Chaco.
The teenager was then shot in the chest by a male who had alighted a nearby bus, according to witness accounts.
“We were walking down the road when we were passed by a bus which had the interior lights turned off,” group member Pedro Marin told the Telefuturo television station, according to Reuters.
“A guy got off the bus and took a shot at us….We threw stones at the bus and Juan Carlos fell to the ground.”
Police said they made thirty-seven arrests after the final whistle.

| Russia warns against hooliganism - 20/05/2008
Source : RussiaToday
Thousands of English football fans have started arriving in the Russian capital, ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League Final. Precautions are being taken to ensure that hooliganism, sometimes known as the English disease, doesn’t spread to Moscow. Some 83 fans linked to Manchester United and 69 linked to Chelsea have been ordered to surrender their passports ahead of the Game on Wednesday. It's part of a larger scale operation, aimed at combating football hooliganism.
This doesn’t include 3,100 people, who are banned from leaving Britain whenever there’s a game somewhere in Europe, such as the Champions’ League final. They won’t be allowed to leave the country.
So while some 42,000 supporters of rival English clubs are invading Moscow, London and Manchester pubs are getting ready for an invasion of their own.
Football hooliganism - sometimes described as the English Disease - became a phenomenon in the 1970s and 80s, when football matches were accompanied by violent fights.
A recent example of football fans’ violence occured last week after Zenith St Petersburg won the UEFA cup final in Manchester. A policeman was beaten and a Russian fan was taken to hospital after being stabbed in the back outside the stadium.
Dougie Brimson no longer gets involved in fights. And although he refuses to call himself a hooligan he admits ‘trouble’ was part of the fun in his time.
“Football is a passionate sport and those who follow it get very excited about it, and hooliganism really is the extreme of that passion, that you’ll fight for the reputation and honour of your club and it’s the same the world over But the level of hooliganism we see today in Britain is very different from what we saw in the 80’s and 90’s,” Brimson says.
Charlie, who’s a Chelsea supporter, is convinced football hooliganism is still alive.
“It’s only a thing of the past inside the stadium - outside the stadium there is a lot that goes on: a lot of threats and arrests - but it never gets reported. The thing that happened at Rangers last week - it happens quite a lot in football which people simply don’t realize. There is a lot of people and a lot of my friends - if the opportunity came around - they would get involved in it,” he says.
Just before traveling to Moscow, Charlie attended a news conference by the Russian authorities - to listen to what they’ve got to say about safety.
Vitaly Mutko, Russia’s Sports Minister, promised to prevent any possible acts of ‘so-called revenge’ here.
“Understandably, the fans of the team that looses will be highly disappointed. But we would ask all the fans - from Russia and from England - to value and appreciate football for what it is,” Mutko added.

| Chelsea FC - Manchester United (played in Moscow) - 21/05/2008Source : Telegraph.co.uk In what appeared an isolated incident, Interfax quoted Russia’s Manchester United fan club as saying some 50 “hooligans” had attacked a group of Manchester fans in the early hours of Wednesday, injuring two before the fans retreated inside a bar. ************************************************************ Source: Reuters No arrests after Champions finalMOSCOW (Reuters) - Thousands of football fans flew out of Moscow on Thursday after a Champions League final that passed off with no reports of serious trouble among supporters. Moscow city police said there had been no arrests among more than 40,000 visiting fans. In the first all-English Champions League final, Manchester United beat Chelsea in a penalty shootout. "Everything was calm, there were no big fights," said a police spokesman. "The fans, both Russian and English, were followed by policemen to provide a stable and calm situation at night. No one was detained." There had been fears of a repeat of the violence that marred the UEFA Cup final in Manchester this month between Scottish side Rangers and Zenit St Petersburg of Russia. The spokesman said 5,000 police had been on duty. A British embassy spokesman praised the Russian authorities' handling of the event, the first time in nine years that Moscow had hosted the final of a major European football tournament. "The security and organisational facilities the Russians put in place have worked out fantastically," said the spokesman. "We've seen literally a handful of cases, none of which we class as serious. We're not aware of any arrests," he said. In one incident before the match which was witnessed by a Reuters photographer, a small group of Manchester United fans clashed with some local men. Bottles were hurled but no one was hurt. QUIET AFTERMATH After the game ended, riot police watched fans as they filed out of the Luzhniki stadium on to dozens of waiting buses or headed to the metro. Red and yellow flags decked out Moscow's streets, an artificial football pitch dominated Red Square and both sets of fans sang and danced in the streets before the match, many wearing souvenir traditional Russian hats. Matt from northern England strolled along a street in central Moscow after the match with his father and brother. He wore a red Manchester United shirt and had flown via Istanbul to see the final. Like most other fans, he praised the Russian organisation. "We've been to many matches in Europe before and normally after a match it is heaving. Here it's very quiet, organised." Wednesday's match was the second major European football final staged in Moscow after the UEFA Cup final nine years ago between Parma of Italy and Olympique Marseille of France. *********************************************************** Source: The Press Association Trouble flares after final thrillerFootball supporters have been involved in trouble in west London following Chelsea's defeat in the Champions League final. Police officers were called to the Fulham Broadway area, not far from Chelsea's Stamford Bridge ground, to deal with violence after the match ended. Twelve people were arrested on suspicion of committing public disorder offences after a crowd of about 200 fans gathered near Fulham Broadway Tube station, according to a Scotland Yard spokesman. He said: "Shortly after the match ended, some people became noisy and abusive, and bottles and street furniture were thrown about." He added that the crowd had been dispersed and there were no reports of injuries. A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said they had been called to the scene but were left on "standby" while police dealt with the situation.
