Blackpool - Manchester City - FA Cup - ??/01/1984
Source: Manchester Evening News
"It was just unbelievable that day," a member of the YOung Guvnors told. "Our lads took liberties all day long. They robbed the club ticket office before the match and were selling tickets outside to City fans, so a lot of the city suypporters got into the Blackpool end. When Blackpool scored their goals, all hell broke loose. The City fans turned on the police and started fighting them and the police backed off. A couple of Manchester lads had got on the roof of the stand and were chucking the asbestos off. Chunks of it wre falling down and our lads started throwing it at the police. That was going on for about 40 minutes and the police could no control it."

They brought at least half the attendance that day around 6 or 7,000 of them...they were battling in the manny road north for all the game.....there were plenty in the burnden paddock seats near me and there was a few exchanges, remember them charging us in the burnden paddock and everyone scattering... A vast number of them were in the embankment end.........but when the game ended that was when the real fun began....i got chased everywhere.it was just a free for all. Remember two groups of fans throwing bricks and bottles at each other all the way to green lane, on manchester road.

However, it was in 1984 that the Blackpool hooligans started to earn their reputation. In March, Rochdale F.C. were totally overwhelmed when 3,000 Blackpool fans descended on their Spotland Stadium when they usually had crowds of about 1,300. A mob of Blackpool fans went on the rampage causing "A trail of havoc" according to the Manchester Evening News headlines who continued, "21 cars were damaged, two parked vehicles overturned and 4 Police cars damaged."[10] By April, 1984 according to the Blackpool Evening Gazette, the police were worried about an army of about 200 hooligans and vowed to drive them out.
