A YOUNG Doncaster Rovers fan needed hospital treatment yesterday after being attacked on his way to the match at Bradford City.
The 15-year-old was set upon by a gang of men as he walked along Thurnscoe Road, Bradford, not far from the Valley Parade ground.
He was allegedly hit with a cricket bat and a pool cue and suffered head injuries. After making his own way to the stadium he was seen by a doctor in the medical room before being sent to Bradford Royal Infirmary. West Yorkshire Police say two men, aged 22 and 21, and a 15-year-old from Bradford were arrested on suspicion of assault and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Rovers won the game 1-0 to move within three points of a League One play-off place.
n A MOTORIST was killed after his car spun out of controal and smashed into a telegraph pole in the early hours in, Mosborough, Sheffield. Firefighters used cutting equipment to free the man, in his 20s, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
n AN ELDERLY couple suffered serious injuries after their car was in collision with another vehicle at Windle Edge, near Barnsley,
The 76-year-old driver suffered leg injuries and his wife, 74, suffered chest injuries. They were both taken to Barnsley Hospital.
n A MAN, aged 62, from Leeds died after losing control of his high-powered car in an M1 crash on Christmas Day.
The MG Turbo hit a crash barrier on the hard shoulder, flipped over, skidded across and smashed into the central reservation.

Celtic ban 'sectarian' chant fans 17 supporters suspended from club's matches - 09/12/2006

CELTIC Football Club have banned 17 fans from attending the club's matches for "offensive and sectarian" chants.

The supporters were suspended after being reported for their behaviour during the recent match against Hibernian in Edinburgh.

And they face an indefinite ban from the Glasgow club's Parkhead ground if they are found guilty.

The club said the 17 fans had been reported for offensive behaviour at the match against Hibs at Easter Road on Sunday, November 26.

The offences relate to reports of offensive and sectarian chanting and singing.

Each supporter has been written to individually, outlining the reasons for their suspension.

They will then be interviewed and if found guilty will be banned indefinitely from Celtic Park.

A spokesman for Celtic said: "The current suspensions will mean that until the club's investigations are completed, these individuals will not be permitted to attend any ofCeltic's home or away fixtures.

"The overwhelming majority of Celtic supporters are a credit to the club and we sincerely value the backing which these fans give the club.

"However, Celtic will continue to take a very strong stance against offensive behaviour of this nature and will do all it can to avoid the club's name being brought into disrepute by a small minority."

The move by Celtic is separate to a series of 'banning orders' which Strathclyde Police is applying for under new powers.

In October, nine alleged football hooligans were targeted by the force as part of the first wave of orders in Scotland.

The supporters could be shut out of stadiums for up to 10 years under laws which came into force on September 1.

Three of those facing the banning orders are men who were arrested for sectarian-related offences at an Old Firm match at Celtic Park in September.

The first are due to come up in court early next year.
