Napoli fans hit bottle in protest at club's decline - 30/09/2001

Supporters of fallen Italian giants Napoli protested at the decline of the football club by offering bottles of wine to passers-by here Sunday. The fans, congregated at the Piazza Plebiscito, offered wine with a banner saying: "It is better to sit around the table with a bottle of wine than with (Giorgio) Corbelli and (Corrado) Ferlaino."
That was a reference to club president Corbelli and chief executive Ferlaino who are refusing to talk to each other as the plight of the second division club worsens.

The Sofia derby between Levski and CSKA was marred by scenes of violence and vandalism here on Sunday. As well as fighting and fires on the terraces, a bus was badly damaged outside the ground. Five spectators were arrested but no injuries were reported, police sources said. After watching their side lose 2-0, CSKA fans ripped up and set fire to hundreds of seats, but 200 police inside and 2000 outside the ground were able to maintain relative calm. A fan was attacked and dies at a Sofia cafe in October 2000 in violence surrounding the corresponding fixture last season.

For this hish-risks game, PSG announced 2 days before the game the official supporters trip was cancelled because the massive presence of independent fans. The night before the game, a group of about 50 Parisians came in the city centre, with the aim to have a fight with local Ultras. Late in the evening, a group of locals came on the same pub and a fight took place and some lads were injured (some of them seriously). French CRS arrived and made about 10 arrests on the visitors mob. The day of the game, another fight erupted, opposing a large group (+-150?) of locals and the Paris ultras (not so much). CRS made another intervention. Some minutes before kick-off a small parisian mob (20 lads) was present in front of the local stand and a thirs violent fight erupted between both clans. Locals were present at this time with about 40-50 boys. Cops intervened with a lot of difficulty, because the mob of people making their way to the stadium, was too dense.

Zenit St Petersburg - CSKA Moscow - 30/09/2001

A policeman in St Petersburg was shot in the leg by a CSKA Moscow fan before the club's match with Zenit St Petersburg on Sunday. The incident occurred after 500 supporters surrounded a police car and smashed its windows. In the ensuing fight, a fan grabbed a pistol from a policeman and shot him. The wounded officer was later taken to hospital. CSKA fans continued to cause disruption throughout the match and special forces were sent to calm them down. The shooting is the second incident of violence to mar a Zenit home match in the last 12 months. A Zenit fan died before a league match with Dinamo Moscow in St Petersburg last year when opposition supporters beat him up.

Two policemen were injured in violent scuffles with Moscow soccer fans who went on the rampage after their team were thrashed by a local side, a police spokesman said on Monday. Zenit St Petersburg maintained third spot in Russia's premier division after defeating CSKA Moscow 6-1 on Sunday, but the match was marred by crowd trouble as Moscow fans fought with police in the stadium. CSKA Moscow lie seventh in the league. The police spokesman said some fans charged through streets after the game, clashing with a group of policemen and harassing members of the public. The spokesman said seven CSKA fans had been arrested in connection with the violence.

River Plate - Velez Sarsfield - 30/09/2001

A group of bad-tempered River Plate fans attacked their arch-rivals Velez Sarsfield's residence, utilizing fire-arms and stones during an Argentine league match on Sunday.
As Velez Sarsfield vice-president Juan Carlos Gonsalez reported the group of supporters in a minibus passed by the residence, the so-called "fans" began throwing stones at the building. Local police managed to detain seven attackers.

Fighting broke out when a train carrying Everton hooligans stopped at the station where Liverpool and Tottenham supporters were queuing. The Everton group attacked and had to be beaten back by police using batons.

Sheffield Wednesday - Manchester City - 22/09/2001

On the same day Sheffield United were away at Millwall. As their hooligans returned to the station they met the departing Manchester City fans. There were running battles at the station and in the city centre.

At around 10pm there was serious disorder at the station where police officers were attacked. Four officers were injured and one was nearly killed. The train departed with the Manchester City hooligans on board but there was continuing trouble throughout the journey.

Gillingham - Rotherham United - 22/09/2001

After the match a group of Gillingham supporters attacked fans outside the ground before being escorted to the town centre. They then went to the train station where they attacked a group of Rotherham supporters. There was also trouble on the train between Rotherham and Sheffield United fans.

There was major disorder prior to the match as 140 Portsmouth hooligans (the "657 Crew") fought with Coventry supporters in the City Centre. During the match there was further violence. Portsmouth hooligans ripped up plastic seats and threw missiles at Coventry supporters. Fighting broke out in the stand and eventually riot police were called in. The start of the second half was delayed.

After the match Portsmouth attacked police who were guarding the exit gates. A group of about 20 Portsmouth then fought with around 40 Coventry on the way to the station. There were further reports of disorder throughout the evening.
