Amsterdam police detain some 300 Lille supporters
Over 300 unruly Lille fans were arrested ahead of the French club's Champions League game against Ajax for public order offences, Dutch police said on Tuesday (Sept 17).
"After public order disturbances this afternoon at Strandvliet metro station, 303 arrests have been made so far, with these French supporters detained throughout the city," police in Amsterdam said on Twitter.
Supporters were also walking along the metro lines, forcing officials to halt rail traffic and evacuate two stations for a short while, the ANP national news agency reported.
According to Lille, fans were peacefully heading to the match when a handful of supporters launched flares on the metro, causing them to stop, after which police arrested the troublemakers and everyone else.
"Obviously the club condemns any bad behaviour and any form of violence," Lille President Gerard Lopez told AFP, adding that Lille were "in touch with the Dutch police".
Around 3,000 fans made the short trip from Lille to Amsterdam to watch their team start their first Champions League campaign in seven years against the side that made it to the semi-finals last season.

Police back proposed march by 'hundreds' of Feyenoord supporters from George Square to Ibrox
The fanbase will reportedly gather in George Square to 'let the drink flow' in the hours leading up to the match.
But it is unclear how many people will be in attendance after it emerged the club are struggling to sell tickets for the showdown.
According to local Dutch media, they will begin walking from the square to Ibrox Stadium at 5pm, where they are expected to arrive an hour and a half before kick-off at 8pm.
It comes after the team was ordered to shut a section of their stadium for their league match on Sunday after being punished for letting off firecrackers.
The Dutch FA issued the order after the use of firecrackers and flares during a volatile clash last season.
But the chairmen of supporters association FSV De Feijenoorder, Remco Ravenhorst, says he does not expect any problems during the city march.
He said: "Why wouldn't the supporters do that? I don't expect any problems. In countries such as Scotland and England, the police have affairs in order. "
Police Scotland have been working closely with the club, and say they are well aware of the plan for some fans to march through the city centre.
Superintendent Craig Smith, the officer in charge of the policing operation for the Rangers v Feyenoord Europa League match, said: "Our extensive planning is well-underway and when Rangers and Feyenoord meet in the Europa League in Glasgow there will be a comprehensive policing plan in place.
"We have been working closely with both clubs and others, such as British Transport Police, to ensure everyone who travels to the match, including those who want to walk to Ibrox Stadium, can do so safely and watch the match in a secure environment."

UGLY scenes broke out in the away end at Ibrox as Feyenoord fans clashed with security – with at least one punter arrested.
Around 2,000 Dutch supporters packed into Ibrox for tonight’s Europa League showdown against Rangers.
Both teams then took part in a second minute applause in recognition of Ricksen’s former number.
But things turned nasty in the stands at half-time as a number of Feyenoord supporters tried to charge through the segregation.
One crazed punter appeared to break his way through the crowded police wall before he was grabbed by cops and security and dragged out the stadium.
In another snap, one fan can be seen wearing a green and white Celtic home jersey as he gestured towards the home end.

Birmingham City have been fined 42,500 pounds and warned by the Football Association after one of their fans ran onto the pitch and punched Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish during a Championship (second tier) match in March.
Paul Mitchell, 27, pleaded guilty at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court to charges of assault and encroachment and was jailed for 14 weeks.
Mitchell was also banned from attending any football matches in the UK for 10 years and banned for life by Birmingham.
Grealish was punched in the side of the face by Mitchell during Villa’s 1-0 win at St Andrew’s. The 24-year-old fell to the turf as a steward and Villa players caught Mitchell and dragged him away.

Police arrested 86 hooligans, including 51 supporters of a River Plate fan club on Wednesday in Lanus
A bystander was shot outside a stadium in Argentina where riot police arrested a group of supporters tied to one of the South American nation's storied soccer clubs after they tried to enter Wednesday's match with firearms.
Members of the Budge fan club were detained outside the venue in the city of Lanus prior River Plate's Copa Argentina meeting at Godoy Cruz.
Argentine newspaper Todo Noticias reported that authorities detained total of 86 fans, including 51 allied with the Budge supporter's club two blocks away from the stadium.
A bystander, Gonzalo Maidana, 27, a cousin of a former River Plate player, was shot in the right leg by a rubber bullet while trying to enter the stadium. He was transported to a local hospital and was operated on.
Agents confiscated a .44 caliber gun, a 9 mm handgun and a .380 pistol and several other sharp weapons as well as bottles of alcohol. Police also seized 10 vehicles.
At least 25 of the hooligans, who intended to enter Néstor Díaz Pérez Stadium, known among locals as 'The Fortress,' were actually banned from the venue.
Authorities said the unruly fans were looking for a confrontation with the West Band, a faction of fans that also support River Plate.
Juan Manuel Lugones, the director of the Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sports, said authorities had a plan in place since Tuesday to stop the entrance of the hooligans into the stadium.
'We were doing prevention work since last night [Tuesday] knowing that today [Wednesday] they were going to come to the stadium in some cars and armed'We have seized three firearms and also data of counterfeit tickets they were selling for today,' Lugones said.
"We are satisfied because in this way the true fans, the genuine ones, those who pay their tickets, those who have no prohibition of attendance can attend the court. We are waiting for the official bar. They still did not arrive," Lugones added in the shooting.
Buenos Aires authorities are also looking into banning all River Plate fans from attending away matches in the province.

Celtic : UEFA fine Hoops £11,000 for fans setting off flares and throwing objects during Europa League play-off - 20/09/2019
Source : https://talksport.com/
Celtic have been handed an £11,000 fine for their fans setting off flares and throwing objects during their Europa League play-off win in Sweden last month.
The Hoops booked their place in the group stage of the competition with a 4-1 win at the Friends Arena in Stockholm, going through 6-1 on aggregate.
But the match was somewhat overshadowed by the crowd trouble.
And UEFA’S control, ethics and disciplinary body met on Thursday to rule on the charges against the Scottish Premiership club.
Celtic claimed that some Swedish supporters managed to infiltrate the away end as fans and police clashed.
However, the Scottish champions will have to cough up the £11,000 following the ruling.
AIK have been fined £7,000 for stairways being blocked.
